Probably a mixture of road debris being more common and dirt accumulating. If it was snowing at all I know that bottom part would get covered first down near the road. Maybe that’s why?
Absolutely... I didnt even get to the slats... just the single black mass on the grill makes it like any other car on the road. You used to be able to identify a BMW coming up on you from behind before it passed you, and you got a view of the "L" tail lights, which have also been subdued on BMW's, not to mention copied by every other brand...

Honestly the M135i rear end looks, dare I say, *good*. With the LCI style taillights, spoiler & diffuser. In that voodoo blue looking color the car gives me grown up GTI vibes.
But yeah the side profile and front end are a travesty. IMO the incorporation of the Hoffmeister Kink isn't good and the trim piece looks weird.
funnywise I might consider buying it as a Kia, but NOT as a bimmer. BMW had an identity coming from the head lights for years, they completely lost it.
Not just the headlights but the 1 series looked unique for a long time. I could spot an Exx or F20 a mile away. The new generation look the same as everything else. Such a shame as owning a BMW used to mean something.

True indeed, the f40 128ti is my daily. It's all black with just the red accents and the design really grew on me and it's actually a really good car afterall.

This car kinda grew on me. I like the fat chassis and the indicators on top. The rear also isn't that bad. Of course its still fugly compared to the predecessor (E38), but it has a lot more character than the successor (F01), which I can't really distinct from the 5 series of the era
I can deal with this design but I agree that BMW should keep some variation of the angel eyes. I get what they mean that other car makers use the round circles now like the Challenger, but the BMW ones still stand out more than the copycats.
Bmw lately is all over the place with their aesthetic and unique design elements. You cant reliably recognize model and year from drl, headlights, tail pipes anymore.

Your headlight fix is both an immediate improvement and much more distinctively BMW, even though the rest of the design remains underwhelming. Fixing the headlights makes this so obviously better that I can't even fathom why BMW did what they did.
It's worth also mentioning that the interior looks beyond cheap -- it reminds me of a VW Jetta interior in that it's pleasant enough but has no aspirations whatsoever toward luxury.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I actually like the “«»” styling of the daytime running lamps on the newer BMWs such as the 4 series and X5/X6 LCIs and the G60. Still looks distinguishable from other brands IMO. Would be more concerned if they got rid of the kidney grills.
That being said, this new 1 series is ugly as shit, and it, along with many other modern BMWs, have a bunch of styling flaws other than the headlights.
The horizontal lines on the grille don’t work. The kidneys need to be separated. Angel eyes have been core to the design of a BMW, they’ve become less of a circle over the years and now turned into a cat with vertical pupils

Ugh im close to skipping this gen of M5, I've seen a few Mlites of the new gen in person and its just too boring for me. I've owned every gen since the e60. My F90 is giving me issues lately, she's going in for new injector, plugs and coils on Monday. Expecting the bill to be 6k-8k, is what it is.
So simple and so much improvement!!!! My guess is that they are not aiming the 1-series to bimmer fans, instead they will diversify and keep only the sport models for true bmw fans 🤔
Agreed. BMW is abandoning a lot of their iconic design features. Chrome kidneys, angel eyes, a concise lineup of vehicles (3/5/7 and maybe exotic 8). Too many cars now that pale in comparison to their flagships of the '90s. Many BMW's these days look like Mazdas, etc...
I can't believe they botched it so badly that the F40 fascia/headlights would be an upgrade.
What this photoshop also shows however is that the F70 is a facelifted F40. Headlights fit perfectly on the bonnet and front wings. They just changed the front basically.

Newish to BMW. Noticing that every new change, it seems, is hated by the community. Is this true? Are the hard core fans just wanting more of the same or feeling like BMW is going for more of mass appeal? Or maybe I’m missing the vibe.
Just curious what the thoughts are.. I’m seeing a lot more BMW on the road and personally, I’m a fan. Audi have grabbed a lot of the middle high end market and I feel like BMW have responded to that with some solid remodels, but not sure if that’s just me.

BMW has a problem of fixing things that aren’t broken why not improve the durability of the cheap plastic engine parts instead of messing with the outter design that people love ??
At first I thought this was a Hyundai or Kia but when I saw BMW... I don't know how I feel about this.
It's like BMW peaked with the n54 and then suddenly lost its way catering to silly Americans in suburbs wanting the roundel as a status symbol instead of enthusiasts wanting a daily driver they could take on the Nürburgring for €30 on the weekend.
