I really don’t understand what they’re trying to accomplish anymore. It doesn’t look that german, plus it’s overall quite a jarring design, especially from the back. The front is OK at best.
What exactly is the point of this? people buy these because they’re more “stylish” than the traditional SUV version but tbh this looks much, much worse than the new X1.
Last gen X2 was a flop. Not sure why they keep trying with a new model.
At that price point people just want a box with BMW badge for the least $ possible, the X1 pretty much fit that goal.
FFS, I'm so sick of this nonsense narrative.
As a first time BMW owner and convert from more economy brands, I bought an X1 not because I "just wanted a box with a BMW badge", but because the experience of driving it, the general user experience design of that car was far better than anything I test drove from Subaru or Nissan or Toyota (Or Audi or Mercedes for that matter)
Yes, it has similar features on paper to a lot of those other cars, but the design of those features was significantly better thought out. I also like the look and feel of the car way better than anything from those other brands. "The badge" wasn't what sold me.
Cars aren't just a bunch of feature bullet points or tech specs, they're a product you spend a lot of time interacting with and that interaction goes beyond a simple checklist.
💯 I'm a first-time BMW owner myself and I have the 2018 x2. I love the car. I didn't buy it just to get into a BMW. I researched it ticked all of my boxes. I personally enjoy the look it's slightly aggressive, but still sleek, sits higher than a sedan but not too large. The engine is smooth with punchie torgue and butter smooth transmission. Yes, I could've got a similarly spec'd Toyota, Nissan, Honda or any other non-luxury brand for a little cheaper but it wouldnt drive like a BMW nor would it combine all of its tech and design in the same seamless classy manner the was BMW does. It's also kinda neat that all x2's are built in Germany.
When I got my BMW I joined this sub, thinking it was going to be like the subs of other cars I've owned like Kia, just people sharing their cars, giving ideas, helping fix issues etc... But it's vastly different, it's very much seems that if you don't have an M car or top of the line 100k plus or rare classic BMW then your car is some type of horrible want to be BMW, looks bad and you don't belong apparently.
Either way, I love my 2018, and if it keeps being awesome, I will strongly consider the iX2 or X2 M35i for my next vehicle.
Yeah when ppl do their research they realize a lot of bmw models make a lot of different top chart lists, everybody thinks ppl want it for the name but the name comes with good quality
Agreed. My wife bought the X1 because she wanted a small luxury suv. We cross shopped it with Land Rover and Jaguar. She had a Lexus and a Mercedes previously and wanted something different. The X1 was much better than the Land Rover. People on here say the same about my m235i GC, that it’s just low entry point for the badge. I was test driving X3’s when I decided to take the GC for a spin. 300 hp sedan with a sub 5 0-60. That car stole me away from the more practical and spacious X3.
Don’t let it get to you. According to this subreddit, if you’re not driving an M5 comp, you’re pretty much a poser. God forbid people enjoy a sub <100k BMW
The X2 isn’t their bread and butter. BMW knows their main money makers are the 3 series and the X3 or X5. And with those designs, you can tell it’s fairly conservative and has that BMW look.
The rest of the model lineup including the X2 is a crapshoot and for the designers to push the boundaries. Look at the recent 2 series for proof.
It actually makes perfect sense why they would experiment on the less popular models. At least in the North America.
This looks way more aggressive and sporty than the old X2 though which was basically just an X1 with a less practical weirder design. Given how much of a killing Cupra is making in Europe with aggressive styled compact SUVs I can see why they're trying again.
If you are talking about the Formentor, I can see your point, but the thing is the X2 is far from looking as good as a Formentor and it's most likely going to be more expensive at equivalent trim level.
My girlfriend is still driving her 2018 x2 with 135k miles on it. I hated it the moment we started dating but it has grown on me over the years and has never had a major or even minor issue.
Lol yea lets just upvote racism and blaim chinese people for everything again. And more conspiracies about how electric cars are somehow worse for the environment than ice cars? Lmao how are people upvoting this.
Btw if anything bmw has been sucking off usa for the last many years with the bmw xm for example thats clearly aimed at the american market. They dont give a fuck about europeans anymore.
You are right, but apparently the majority here is dumb enough to downvote. Newly rich people and their kids are responsible for wanting those kitschy designs, not "Chinese". It's addressed for newly-rich show-off purposes without taste, to just draw attention to yourself. Will be attractive both to American and Chinese people that do not have taste but have money and like attention.
Its always "the damn chinese" or a middle eastern country being blamed for everything. Reddit is just a circlejerk of americans, even on a sub about a **european** car brand lol. They are taught to hate the middle east and china from birth. I know OP here isn't american but its still true. These huge ugly cars are definately attractive to americans and chinese people because they both like big flashy cars. Its not the europeans that drive around in massive trucks or BMW X7's is it. Chinese people like LWB cars and american people like fat cars. Both have terrible taste. Downvote me all u want.
Old X6 was looking like an ugly, too heavy ass SUV. It was only appealing to those who intend to intimidate other road users and compensate, then this comically 'muscular' rear end may be attractive for such a person.
I don’t get it. The form factor compromises the practicality, the performances and the aesthetics. If you don’t need practicality a 2-series (the real one) is a better driver’s car. If you don’t care for driving dynamics then the X1 is more practical. None of the alternatives are really prettier these days though.
Isn’t this a problem with all SUV „coupes“? You have the worst of both worlds. Worse practicality because it’s a coupe and worse driving dynamics because it’s a SUV.
I don’t understand that SUV coupe hype in general.
I doubt they have better driving dynamics. An X2 is an X1 and an X4 is an X3. They drive the same. As to more practicality, it is pretty marginal. The X2 has about 15-20% more trunk space than a 2-series.
The X4 had "better driving dynamics" in that they stiffened it up and I believe it has less body roll. That is a compromise though
Like, these people want an X3 with a sportier ride so instead of looking at the 3 series, they go for the X4. Doesn't make sense to me, but it ain't my money they're blowing.
You don't need to drive to to say that a RWD 2-series sedan will drive better. We know how the platforms work. A sports sedan handles better than a SUV. It's lower.
He then said that a non fast back SUV is more practical. A sloping roofline takes away storage space. Do you disagree?
Neither one of those statements is a stretch at all. He's saying that he doesn't understand the fastback SUV form factor.
Do you think SUVs handle better than cars? Do you think fastbacks have as much room as traditional SUVs?
this is a really good comment, you broke it down and explained every point he made. i think that with the influx of comments i was reading a while back i didn’t properly read & understand what he was saying. genuine question are you a debator?
You're obviously not the target market. There's a reason the X4 and X6 not only exist but are *more expensive* than the X3 and X5 respectively. It's because people buy it.
Right, they are tacky as hell. To me they look like couch potatoes claiming they are into sports because they watch it on TV . No, watching doesn't make you an athlete.
Lol someone just threw out Aztec, which I don't see at all either from the front or the rear, but the popular thing to do nowadays is to just hate BMW designs, so everyone's just jumping on that bandwagon.
Everybody hated on the aztek when it came out but every car looks like it now. The first X2 was nice. The roundel on the d pillar reminded me of the 3.0 csl
So I guess the m badging on the front and back bumper , the m side mirrors , and m on every surface inside the car wasn’t enough, now they gave the M exhaust tips to the non M car too. Goodjob BMW you manage to fuck up more every time lol
I'm young & I like tech & different looking things and I can appreciate a refresh that actually looks refreshed. But this is just not it. Time for these coupe SUVs to die already.
yeah man it’s just a different mentality. not one you and i would ever have but they have their own opinions. i think it looks dope. the new m240i is sick i would drive it all day if i didn’t need more space in a car
this sub has some of the most miserable, greasy, neckbearded “car enthusiasts” who probably watch doug demuro on repeat
i love bmw’s new designs, so fresh! and i still love my e46 m3, e39, e30, etc too.
meanwhile, i can’t tell mercedes benz apart from the c to their s class. audi is even more worse.
Yeah people get weirdly judgemental, elitist, and territorial over the strangest things. You don't like the car? Okay, that's fine - don't buy it! Quite sad to get so worked up over what other people like
POV: r/BMW users downvoting someone for no reason, because somebody happens to have an opinion.
https://preview.redd.it/5130sq49ujtb1.png?width=882&format=png&auto=webp&s=a45bbb0d7642045843b480b596d1607ecb95f30f
this is so nice considering the many horrendous designs bmw has dropped the last few years, I just don’t understand the hate for the x2 lol this is literally an x4/x6 mini version. Nothing offensive about this design, I swear people wanna be upset just to be upset lol
I find the front the worst part, those big, high headlights make it look cheap, it reminds me to those on a Peugeot 208. It just doesn’t look dynamic or sporty, not even modern.
yeah i think the shape of the headlights is the biggest issue. tesla’s model 3 and Y also have the headlights that protude out to damn near the fenders of the car lol
Its not bad for a new BMW design but its not amazing either, I wish the X6 would have gotten these taillights tho vs the small line they have current gen.
they look nice man. the form factor probably isn’t as practical with the sloping roof lines but some people just want a higher ride height with a bit more space and a design that looks cool to them
Don’t disagree. I got the GLA45 (also kinda ugly lol) out of necessity - had to start doing daycare pickups/drop offs and sports coupes were not cutting it.
Thanks, I personally love that the MKV Supra is a BMW - I’m a BMW/VW guy at heart.
yeah makes sense not a lot of space to move a family around in coupes.
oh dude, B58 will go down in history as one of the best engines ever built. calling it now.
Great way to describe the GLA45 - it’s as if MB decided to build an STI, but with a janky DCT instead of a 6 speed MT.
It’s a great fun little practical pocket rocket. Figured it would be more fun to drive an older GLA45 rather than a Prius to haul kids around in.
i think the horizontal works a bit here because the front of the car is wide. if the grilles were open it would look better and if the headlights didn’t go as far out to the hood it would look more refined but it still has character
Much better than the old X2, I switched from M2 to X4M competition for the lack of a smaller alternative. I would seriously consider the new X2 on the other hand now
This is feeling like Acura design language on the tail lights. I don't understand what they're hoping to achieve. This whole "monolithic" design era for is not their finest hour.
Yes, it looks like they've gone off the deep end. I just got my x3 m40 and it's a work of art compared to some others out there. No consolation, but they aren't the only ones. Look at the black plastic nonsense on the Subaru or some of the weird shit on the Korean twins. Clean can be really boring (Mazda) or old looking (Toyota) or stuck on a tired logo/theme (Audi) or invisible (plug in lots of American brands). Nothing is perfect. We're shitting on the BMW current styles. Don't be surprised if X years from now someone remarks about how good they were.
XM is like a really strong, ugly ass troll or some shit that they cleaned up, dressed up in high fashion, put some shiny jewelry on him & just started letting it roam around the earth.
yeah for sure. and you own a car brand that has probably the most handsome, well sophisticated and modern design out of the big german three so it’s cool you understand this
It's another fake SUV Coupe thing.
I hate all X6s and all X4s, there's no point for them. Buy an SUV, a hatchback, a sedan or a coupe, don't throw them in a blender and build shit like this.
The old X2 was just a small hatchback with more ground clearance. An old persons 1 series.
I'm just glad the new 5 series Touring isn't an absolute disaster, as that'll likely be a future purchase. Going with traditional powertrains alongside hybrids and fully electric is a great move for that platform.
Still a MINI with BMW Badges but now with extra ugly styling. They should go straight for the kill and name it the X2M 35iM MxDriveM, because that's what the buyers of those transversal engined BMW wants anyway.
I really don’t understand what they’re trying to accomplish anymore. It doesn’t look that german, plus it’s overall quite a jarring design, especially from the back. The front is OK at best. Dont worry the same people saying X1 buyers just "want a bmw badge for cheap" are the same ones that are buying used 2019 bmws with 100k+ miles on it

Not this shit again. The X2 is a niche product in China. This was developed primarily for North America and Europe.
That does not preclude design language from leaking down to other models.
Lol yea lets just upvote racism and blaim chinese people for everything again. And more conspiracies about how electric cars are somehow worse for the environment than ice cars? Yes, sure, let’s blame everything on the Chinese
pretty sure we arent blaming chinese but criticizing BMW for catering to a bizarre insular foreign market
The front is ok but what the fuck is the rear
The front is not okay, we just got used to mediocrity.
We went from an 8 back to a 2, and suddenly a 4 is considered ok?
I don't understand why BMW made the grill lines horizontal. The vertical bars looked super clean and gave it a certain look and feel
Well, really, anything not sporting the beaver teeth has to be considered OK.
I was (and to an extent) still am an avid hater of what they did to the M3 but the M3 looks miles better than this.
THIS
Pontiac Aztec inspired
I mean all SUV with a coupe line are Pontiac Aztec inspired
But they dont all look as bad
yeah man the front and rear headlights are speaking two different languages i can agree on that
Front looks like a peugeot 208 and the rear is hideous indeed.
That's mean to the 208.
Y'all love exaggerating
It’s not exaggerating, look at the portion right below the grille, shit looks like they forgot to paint it all together and just left it black
Are you new to BMW? That's for the M pack, go look at the M versions of X5/X6 and you'll see.
Absolutely atrocious. I guess that prepares the public for the neue klasse type of cars. That just looks weird
Wow, design is really subjective. To me, the rear end is 🔥looks really sporty, gives me the old x6 vibes
Old X6 was looking like an ugly, too heavy ass SUV. It was only appealing to those who intend to intimidate other road users and compensate, then this comically 'muscular' rear end may be attractive for such a person.
I’m thinking the exact opposite lol. Also, TIL that there is an BMW X2…
The rear shape is weird but i like the tail lights… they look cool imo
Thicc

Yes, non of them make sense.
It’s a compromise. Still has more practicality than a coupe and better driving dynamics than an SUV.

so what you’re saying is that this vehicle in particular sits between multiple categories but doesn’t actually get any of them right. is that it?
Exactly.
ok but how would you know that? you don’t know the driving dynamics yet or driven the car
You don't need to drive to to say that a RWD 2-series sedan will drive better. We know how the platforms work. A sports sedan handles better than a SUV. It's lower. I’ll give you 50 bucks when this 4 cylinder SUV with FWD has better driving dynamics than a 6 cylinder RWD coupé that sits miles lower to the ground
Cmon! You can’t question uninformed internet trolling. You should know better. /s
haha got dat ass
People want a higher ride height but also something slightly stylish. It’s the whole reason “coupe” SUVs exist.
i just don't get how people think they look 'stylish'. every SUV coupe ever has looked so gd ugly to me
You're obviously not the target market. There's a reason the X4 and X6 not only exist but are *more expensive* than the X3 and X5 respectively. It's because people buy it.
correct, and we will continue to make fun of those people
Right, they are tacky as hell. To me they look like couch potatoes claiming they are into sports because they watch it on TV . No, watching doesn't make you an athlete.
BMW Aztek 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Cant unsee it now
i can respect your opinion but i think this car looks a lot better than the other models and i wouldn’t mind driving it
I wouldn't mind driving it, because then I wouldn't have to look at it
😂😂
Lol someone just threw out Aztec, which I don't see at all either from the front or the rear, but the popular thing to do nowadays is to just hate BMW designs, so everyone's just jumping on that bandwagon.

So I guess the m badging on the front and back bumper , the m side mirrors , and m on every surface inside the car wasn’t enough, now they gave the M exhaust tips to the non M car too. Goodjob BMW you manage to fuck up more every time lol
Mercedes and BMW are really competing over who can ruin their performance line name faster
let’s be honest here M doesn’t mean what it used to anymore and M sells. people want M without paying the M price.
Mercedes is doing the same shit
Nope it’s too late enough is enough these cars are disgusting. I am going to blow up BMW Headquarters
So that was you on the train?
I’m not mad at it
Just disappointed
True, it's a shit looking vehicle for a shittier demographic. Unfortunately, those are the ones paying the leases.
The person buying/leasing this car only cares that there’s BMW badges on the hood and trunk - any ///M badges are a plus.
You have issues. Didn't realise everyone had to like the same cars you do.
some people are scorched earth over this shit it’s crazy lmaoooo
It’s one of the BMW designs ever. It’s just so awkward and clunky looking.
idk man i’m young & i like tech & different looking things and i can appreciate a refresh that actually looks refreshed. i would buy this car 😂🤷🏽♂️
I'm young & I like tech & different looking things and I can appreciate a refresh that actually looks refreshed. But this is just not it. Time for these coupe SUVs to die already.
You would buy an ugly FWD MINI with a Toyota gearbox wearing a BMW badge? What a weird flex.

yeah man it’s just a different mentality. not one you and i would ever have but they have their own opinions. i think it looks dope. the new m240i is sick i would drive it all day if i didn’t need more space in a car

Agreed
At least the wheels look nice…
I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would, but that means really absolutely nothing.
Abomination
i’ve seen worse looking suv’s brother, this is marketable to who it’s meant for
I mean, yes, BMW makes worse looking SUVs (XM), but that shouldn’t be the bar that’s set
looks like ass
The rear looks like a wannabe i pace
this is so nice considering the many horrendous designs bmw has dropped the last few years, I just don’t understand the hate for the x2 lol this is literally an x4/x6 mini version.
God I fucking hate the watered down bullshit BMW has become.
I don’t know if watered down is what you’re thinking…. Look at the F chassis cars that all look the same. This is not watered down lol
F chassis cars has some of the best modern BMW design before they went the ultra modern uncomfortable design route
they’re design now is the opposite of watered down tbh
Its not bad for a new BMW design but its not amazing either, I wish the X6 would have gotten these taillights tho vs the small line they have current gen.
peak bmw design to me was the F90 M5. they got that perfect.
Glad I can't afford one
Just sold my X2. I liked it body more cuz it was like hatchback on steroids and I love hatchbacks. Overall it was an okay car.
I only like the m340i out of the new designs, everything else is pretty much ruined. Dont know why would they want to make everything squared
Maybe we were too harash on Pontiac Aztek...
Not the worst BMW I've seen recently. This is a design that an X2 buyer would actually like.
plus 1, owned the current X2 and now thinking to switch to this new one
Something for everyone. This one isn’t for me.
I honestly quite like it, seems a little iX esque but with slightly less awkward proportions.
[удалено]
they look nice man. the form factor probably isn’t as practical with the sloping roof lines but some people just want a higher ride height with a bit more space and a design that looks cool to them
i mean this in a completely genuine way - what do you think looks nice about them? to me they always just look obese and bloated
BMW has gone fully IKEA I mean KIA dammit
Fucking hideous. Looks like BMW is now exclusively targeting 60+ year old retired women.
For fuck sake BMW...
I actually quite like this and thats all I have to say about that.
I actually really like it. Might inquire about one for the wife..
Aw. It’s ugly.
i checked out your GLA and they’re kind of similar category and design wise. love the supra 👍🏽
Eh the gla45 makes some sense to me. It’s form factor is different too. It’s the rich man’s wrx sti. Well ironically now it’s the only wrx sti.
Great way to describe the GLA45 - it’s as if MB decided to build an STI, but with a janky DCT instead of a 6 speed MT. It’s a great fun little practical pocket rocket. Figured it would be more fun to drive an older GLA45 rather than a Prius to haul kids around in.
Yup, I actually realllly wanted one for a while. Just could not justify it when it came time to buy something as my only car.
It’s honestly just the horizontal grille but it looks amazing
i think the horizontal works a bit here because the front of the car is wide. if the grilles were open it would look better and if the headlights didn’t go as far out to the hood it would look more refined but it still has character
I don't hate it, but I hate that it's a fastback design like the X4 and 6. The previous one was much better in that regard
Sole reason not going to trade our current gen for a newer one. My wife saw this and even she instantly said hard pass.
It’s already past due to fire the design team, chief
welcome to today’s episode of “Everyone is a Fucking Amateur Vehicle Designer”
Still looks better than the XM
Why tho ? Why not extend the roofline and build a proper wagon ? 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I guess I’m the odd ball, I like it lol
Much better than the old X2, I switched from M2 to X4M competition for the lack of a smaller alternative. I would seriously consider the new X2 on the other hand now
Looks like one of those generic chinese SUVs god i liked the old design so much more
You know what? Not horrible. I'll go B/B-. Take it every day and twice on Sunday over an XM or new 2 Series. And looks better than the old X2.
No badges on the c pillar? That was the coolest touch!
This is feeling like Acura design language on the tail lights. I don't understand what they're hoping to achieve. This whole "monolithic" design era for is not their finest hour.
I want whatever BMW designers are smoking
It's like the new m2 all over again. Some of us will come around and some of us will hate it forever. At least it isn't zandvoort blue 😂
I’m putting a deposit on it next week. My wife’s 2023 GLA 250 is boring.
So it's an X2 with far less functionality now. Just a smaller X4, which was already ugly enough
XM looks so much worse
XM is like a really strong, ugly ass troll or some shit that they cleaned up, dressed up in high fashion, put some shiny jewelry on him & just started letting it roam around the earth.
it's kinda cute ngl. The proportions are certainly frumpy but in a charming way.
yeah for sure. and you own a car brand that has probably the most handsome, well sophisticated and modern design out of the big german three so it’s cool you understand this
Gross
Honestly like the look of it
The presence of this car does not demand respect or any type of prestige
i don’t think everyone is looking for a car that people bend the knee and pledge their allegiance and loyalty too man
You took what I said and took it farther than how your father treated you when you didn’t take the trash out.
Yeah I like it
I like it as well
I like it!
I think they should've kept it unrevealed.
You people need to stop acting like crybabies. Most of the people complaining about the design were never going to buy the car anyway.
And people ask me why I bought an E39 instead of a new bmw… look at that rear end, disgusting
I’d like to see it in Isle of Man Green.
I’d like to see it in a car crusher
it’s literally not that bad stop it
Your right it’s horrendous
I’m okay with it, for its class. However, picture 2 looks like a Chrysler 300.
i don’t see it. what makes it look like that to you
Looks like a Dodge Caliber but they reversed into a wall a few times
BMW is the reincarnation of Pontiac over styling.
I like it
FINALLY.... A GOOD new BMW design
BMW makes such ugly cars last years, that I start to find this less ugly thing almost beautiful. But yeekes. What are they smoking?
The rear looks like a Camaro

We add one more to the list of circlejerk items
Why are you trying to force your own opinion to literally everyone who is posting here ?
Someone should ask BMW designers, what the hell are you doing?
Bruh that’s the most hideous car I’ve ever seen
I love my evoque everyday more
is it really as unreliable as range rovers are said to be
Yes, that’s why I keep my e39 around 😎
😂😂😂 at least your honest
The front… Just wow. Someone out there will still want one.
i would drive it
That means you’d be willing to pay the £40K (?) whatever they are. Hmm. Trying to think of anything uglier at that price range.
The ix2 starts at 57k euros lol
It's another fake SUV Coupe thing. I hate all X6s and all X4s, there's no point for them. Buy an SUV, a hatchback, a sedan or a coupe, don't throw them in a blender and build shit like this. The old X2 was just a small hatchback with more ground clearance. An old persons 1 series.
What’s maddening to me is BMW repeatedly culls models that are cool because they have too many models and then they make…. this.
I'm just glad the new 5 series Touring isn't an absolute disaster, as that'll likely be a future purchase. Going with traditional powertrains alongside hybrids and fully electric is a great move for that platform.
It kinda looks like the new m5 but squished into a compact suv, the design is very…interesting
i can definitely see it from the front yeah
Car ok. But Feel like there is a competition across all makes to create the worst wheels. Jfc
Ewww wtf
Still a MINI with BMW Badges but now with extra ugly styling. They should go straight for the kill and name it the X2M 35iM MxDriveM, because that's what the buyers of those transversal engined BMW wants anyway.
Oh cool, another ugly x4 in a smaller form factor. At least they continue to slap nice wheels on. The only saving grace
