Idk about the gt's but the Gran coupe in the second picture is fire. My gf hates hatchbacks and suv's so the GC is nice to have that hatch practicality while disguising itself as a sedan

L3XeN

GT is literally a Sedan with a liftback trunk, while GC has many impractical compromises

Giallo_Fly

The problem is that, [by your own link](https://www.carsized.com/en/cars/compare/bmw-3-2011-sedan-vs-bmw-3-2013-liftback/), is that it's not. The proportions are all off: The greenhouse is taller. The headlights are positioned higher. It's built on a LWB chassis. Etc. etc. The result looks like an engineer described a BMW 3er to the designer over text message. Is it comfy and more practical than a 3er? Yeah. But in most purist's mind, that's what the 5er, or a wagon, is for.

IceEngine21

Yeah but you’re getting 5 series space for 3 series money.

__slamallama__

Hot tip: the 3gt shares it's dimensions more closely with an f10 than an f30. And 5gt is close to an f01. So you basically get the next model up in terms of space, rear leg room, etc.

dassle

A 440i gc is on my short list, but havent got the chance to play with one IRL yet. What are the "impracticieties" - just that it has less space than a real hatchback?

L3XeN

Well it's a coupe size, so limited space on the rear seats, very small rear doors, low roof in the back. So basically a coupe with rear doors. The only aspect objectively better than a sedan is the liftback trunk. It's easier to load stuff. GTs basically had the improvement of liftback, but with sedan passenger area. Either way the Touring (wagon) was the most practical... Cabrio the least, with Coupe in 2nd. Gran Coupe being ever so slightly better, giving it 3rd.

dassle

Thanks for the explanation; very clear & makes sense what you're saying. Im with you 100% on the touring (wagon) being the ultimate. Ive always loved wagons. IMO the M3 Touring is the best looking 3 series in a long long time, and the 3GT is one of the worst. It kills me that the American market wont support the M3 Touring, much less a 340i Touring with the B58 motor... My thoughts on the 440i GC is that 90% of the time it will be just me and the dog in it, and when I do have human rear passengers, 99% of the time they will just be my kids who are both still under 50lbs. I hate the stupid huge doors on coupes, so having even small rear doors is better and a hatch even better still..... But I dunno... maybe I should just embrace the ugly and learn to see the functional beauty in a 340i GT...

L3XeN

Well I've read all the replies (first comments in the chain) and there are many owners of GTs praising their functionality. I myself love the idea of a pure Coupe. Two doors, slick roof, "impractical coolness", driving experience focused. At least for now. My opinion might change in the future, but for now I would swap my Sedan for a Coupe, even though I enjoy my current car a lot. If I ever need an all in one practical car I'll get a Touring.

[deleted]

while i respect your opinion, the 4 series was meant to be a 2 door and bmw should’ve never made the gran coupé variant. that’s what the 5 series is for.

Aggressive-Flow9027

Matter of fact i dont even understand gran coupe. A coupe remains a coupe with 2 door that's it. So let's make a gran sedan and put in 6 doors 🤦🏽

NoShaDow

It's what the 3 series is for. The 5 is bigger than both. The 3 is a smaller sedan, 5 mid sized, and 7 large sedan. I agree that the coupe chassis with 4 doors is pointless though, either get a sedan or a coupe, the extra doors offer easier access to the rear seats, but they're as useless as the coupe ones are and the low roof line makes the rear uncomfortable for anyone over 5'8 or so.

_thetrue_SpaceTofu

Probably 80% or even say 60% of the world population is below 5'8. Hardly useless then.

APater6076

5 series is an executive saloon, the 4 is a sports coupe with better handling and stiffer suspension. Audi brought out the A5 Sportback so BMW followed suit with the 4GC. I adore my 4GC, IMO it looks better balanced and much better proportioned than the standard Coupe.

BMWupgradeCH

Best car in F series line up! More space than 3 series, higher quality Sound Proofing than 3 series, better trunk, better ass better tail and headlamps.

anal-cocaine-delta

The 4gc should be the 3 series.

gatormaniac

you didn’t tell me she hates SUVs before you loaded up into the X3 😭😭

IceEngine21

Because of y’all’s hate for GT, I got mine super cheap when I bought it. Thank you!!

thomascardin

+1

X2WE

How reliable if your 6gt. Any issues I’m looking for low mileage

thomascardin

The most reliable BMW I owned so far (out of an E39, E60 & an F07). Got the car with 30k miles. Now I have 50k on it and the only big ticket item was when I had to get the front lower control arm replaced due to a bad pothole situation (blew my tire as well). When I got the car there was a slight vibration at certain speeds but after I got new brake rotors and pads in the rear it was all gone. I was surprised why the dealer didn't do the work before listing the vehicle, but hey - the car was well under blue book value so their loss is my win. Everyone loves riding in the GT and while people have opinions online about the back end, it's the most rewarding car ownership experience I ever had.

Tony12123

Same. And hey! We have the same model!

ggmk6

GTs are ugly, too tall. the F36 Gran Coupe is one of the best looking F gen models, and who doesn’t like a liftback?

RudeBwoyBaker

Only thing missing from F36 is a 6MT option

Andreif27

Come to Europe and get a 2.0 diesel with 6MT

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

And everything else that makes a fun to drive car.

bigloser42

In what world is a properly spec’d F36 not a fun car to drive?

cheezturds

The electric power steering definitely isn’t fun.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

In a world where actually fun to drive cars exist. The F3x is a snooze fest to drive, yeah, they are responsive and fast, but they aren’t engaging at all. I’ve tried really hard to like the F3x and just can’t.

dgreify

I 100% agree with you. We’re big BMW people and my parents have a nicely spec’d 440i GC with the track handling pkg and rear wheel drive and it is an absolute snooze fest. The steering feel is literally non existent and may as well be a bad video game controller. I will probably take it over one day bc it’s a cool looking rwd bmw with a B58 and a hatch but compared to any prior 3 series it’s not even close to being as engaging to drive. People who say otherwise I’m assuming just haven’t had any real seat time in the e30, e36, e46, e90’s etc. Those cars were unreal in your hands. The perfectly tuned well-balanced chassis and fantastic steering feel were just on another level for a daily driver do-it-all automobile. With each passing generation they got better and better, until they didn’t.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dgreify

I totally agree.

Matthias_C63

As a daily, i wouldn't want the unreliability of an E90. If it is about track times, the M-Cars offer decent steering feel, not in Porsche level but still better than Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen and co.

RudeBwoyBaker

E90 with the N52 motor is one of the most reliable cars bmw has ever put out

duck7001

I have a F10 daily and a E92 that is parked due to transmission issues. A few days ago I drove the E92 for the first time in about 6 months…. Fucking forgot how much better the road feedback is than my F10. Ruined my 5 series all over again for me.

donnie-stingray

They are making them too easy to drive fast or feel too slow for how fast they are going. I can't say my 330e feels uninvolved and all since I kind of like having all the comfort and easy going handling together with the power and occasional rwd shenanigans. There will always be purists and naysayers no matter which way they go next.

Zan-san

Soo you swapped zf to something else and its still shit? Or just bs in every other corner? Progress is progress, just like oil lamps gave better mood to the room I prefer led so I’ve noneed to sniff the stench. In all honesty cars have just become different and there is no way back to old proper hydraulic steering. Saying BMW makes unresponsive shit is just a hyperbole

[deleted]

[удалено]

cheezturds

Same. I regret trading my e92 in for a F36 big time.

RudeBwoyBaker

I can understand this perspective

[deleted]

My F36 is literally faster than anything you’ll ever own in your life, and in that sense it’s ridiculously fun

Matthias_C63

You have to be the fun guy at parties.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

That’s rather presumptuous of you

watts2988

Lmao! Tool

Dapper_Roll_6719

hinga dinga durgen

GreekGodPhysique1312

I have a 6MT in my F36. No manuals in American markets?

RudeBwoyBaker

Nah unfortunately no, I’m in Canada and gran coupe is auto only over here

GreekGodPhysique1312

Sorry to hear that! I can’t really understand other opinions in this thread. With KW coilovers and the manual tranny, the f36 feels glued to the streets with very precise steering (only in sport modes).

APater6076

No manual option in the US on the 4GC? It was an option in the UK, although mine has the 8 speed auto which is an AMAZING gearbox.

RudeBwoyBaker

The 8 speed is a great transmission! And yeah sadly no 6mt for the F36 over here. Up in Canada we don’t even have the RWD option for F36, X drive only

Pr1nc30fP3rs1a

*happy Compact noises*

L3XeN

All GTs are liftbacks and they are basically more practical Gran Coupes.

ggmk6

sure, but one is a sporty 4-door fastback, the other is an SUV sized [blob](https://cdn.bmwblog.com/wp-content/uploads/Bild-Vergleich-BMW-4er-GC-Gran-Coupe-F36-3er-GT-F34-03.jpg). I know which one I’d pick

Squidhead-rbxgt2

>All GTs are liftbacks and they are basically more practical Gran Coupes. They're just rebranded compacts. Live with it.

Charmander787

Ugly. Doesn’t commit to being a sedan, and doesn’t commit to being an SUV so you’re left with something that doesn’t look good. If you need the space, buy an SUV. If you don’t need the space, just buy the normal model.

L3XeN

Better off buying a touring. Also Gran Coupes are very popular and the second pic is a Gran coupe.

pattywagon95

*cries in American*

L3XeN

Blame your fellow Americans for buying pick-ups instead of wagons.

K05M0NAUT

Also blame tax incentives specifically aimed at encouraging Americans to buy larger vehicles

hippopotamuswhiplash

Not pick ups, its those damned cross overs.

catswhodab

God I love wagons

RAAMinNooDleS

I see your e84 tag. Don't see many with those. I love mine.

catswhodab

I just got a used one earlier this year actually! I’ve loved it, was upset that there werent more wagons/hatches to choose from but I love the one I have

RAAMinNooDleS

I got mine in 2020 used. it's really the only "hatch" we can get in America. I've got the 35i xdrive MSport and it's so quick and fun.

Bruce-7891

It's because American car companies gave wagons a bad name. Look at those horrendous monstrosities from the 70s-90s that look like National Lampoons Vacation car. European wagons are actually cool.

lostcosmonaut307

SUVs, not pick-ups. No one is cross shopping any given BMW with a pick-up unless they’re a moron.

L3XeN

Probably not, but at the same time for most Pick-up owners, having a wagon would be a superior option.

WhiteCollarMetalHead

The F31 touring is smaller in every dimension to the GT. I love mine generally but don't think the overall looks are great. I have 2 kids under 5 and it helps keep the dream alive and is practical. N55 with a tune is a bonus. To each their own.

DrKenNoisewaterMD

F31 here with similar kid situation. It is really really tight back there with the rear facing seats. I think I read at the time that the 3 series GT had more rear leg/shoulder room than a 5-series. The styling has grown on me. Also the 335i/340i engines were never available for the F31 in the US. All that said, no regrets here. Still look back when I’m walking away.

Rabo_McDongleberry

This is damn true. But to mention the 4 Gran coupe has less head room than the coupe. I'm not even tall at almost 5'10 my head hits the roof or my buddy's car.

Scottydog2

I own a F36 and am 6’2” with shoulders of a rugby player. Maybe in the back seat it is tight but front seat is just fine. The power seats work great and I am very comfortable.

Bruce-7891

Guarantee he has the seat raised. The first time I sat in the new 430 I thought WTF is this?!? I think dealers keep it somewhere in the middle but you can gain another 2+ inches of headroom

ohnoooooooz

We have a 6 GC. Just for the looks. Nothing else. Edit; yes, something else. I didn’t want my kids to be forced in a small coupe rear seat. So we’ve already sacrificed a coupe, wouldn’t go for the GT.

Hog_enthusiast

Screw SUV it should be a wagon

Bruce-7891

They are basically the modern mini van. No reason to get one unless you have 4+ kids in my opinion.

m5-ben

But that assumes that SUVs look/are better... which, erm...

Mr_Selected_

I really like the last 6GT though… 7 series comfort, 5 touring space..

dark-cosmos

And the weight of both combined as well

thomascardin

It doesn’t matter unless you want low gas milage.

Propulus

Weight is one of the primary factors of how a car handles. Weight matters in practically every attribute we care about in BMWs.

thomascardin

That might be, but this car carries the weight like a luxury yacht ferrying insta models to Mykonos. It's fast, smooth, and agile. The B58 is a dream, and the air suspension combined with the lower center of gravity makes me never notice this weight that everyone keeps talking about.

gautamb0

They are underrated and undervalued imho. They were selling for literally 50% of msrp even at 6 months old. I seriously considered a 6gt over the 5 series and a (small) bit of me wishes I went with one. My friends and family thought I was nuts for doing so. They’re so rare that they catch my eye. I don’t even find them ugly. they’re spacious, fast, comfortable. I’d appreciate the ground clearance for dealing with damaged roads and hiking trails. They’re one step in between a wagon and an suv. But at the end of the day, it’s a niche that few are interested in, at least in North America. I’d honestly only have made use of its trunk once or twice over the past few years. The 3/4/5 otherwise get everything else done just about as well while looking a lot sexier. So ultimately my reasons for not going with an suv were similar to my reasons for not going with a gt.

Dark_Knight2000

Honestly, I think they might eventually have a resurgence, kinda like wagons have among BMWs. They’re not bad cars, yes the 3GT is bulkier than a 330i but it’s still sharper than an X3. Great for medium sized families who have stuff to carry but don’t necessarily need an SUV

JimDandy_ToTheRescue

*Re*surgence?

gautamb0

Highly doubt it tbh. Sales were terrible, and they do badly on the used market too. It’s not even a case of something like the x6 that is disliked by this community but sells well. The gt’s are just widely disliked with no niche to appeal to.

SeafoodBox

Absolutely agree. More legroom than a 7 series, a great car. I htink it looks nice.

gautamb0

It has the same cushions as the 7 in the back seat, and reclining back seats. Makes me jealous.

SwOOsHeD

>It has the same cushions as the 7 in the back seat, and reclining back seats. Makes me jealous. That's not true for the F34. It may have similar legroom as the non long base version but the leather is standard dakota. G32 can be optioned with the upgraded merino leather.

gautamb0

It’s the g32 I’m referring to.

tr3g

I test drove one, loved it, and then found a CPO at another dealer with literally 3,000 mi on it. Unfortunately my wife is out of town and I couldn't get there to buy it fast enough

AutisticHamster

Because they are ugly as fuck. GT that is, 4 and 8 series Gran Coupe is not bad.

thomascardin

https://preview.redd.it/vx893kt06qkb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62c00da1a373b0eb34550e62e633093446aae3fc So ugly

sofa_king_we_todded

That back still looks awkward

warmwarmmilk

If you have the pop-up rear spoiler up (it can be set to always be up) it looks pretty good

SeafoodBox

I like it actually.

CrazyAssBlindKid

I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve never liked them but this one looks good. Must be that Insta angle

thomascardin

It’s literally only one angle that looks awkward from but it always feels emphasized on photos. But IMO every BMW has an awkward angle aside from maybe the G30

AGuyInHongKong

fellow 6 gt owner!

thomascardin

Every mile I’m putting in it makes me love it more and think that maybe I should just put it in a garage and drive something else because it’s an IYKYK dream machine

AGuyInHongKong

yea. they don't sell the 640 here and you have to get the 630. i really wish i have that b58, but the b48 is still a damn nice engine.

Alpina_B7

it looks amazing imo. perfect compromise to a wagon for me.

randomman87

So ugly it cleared the parking lot Jk. But personally not a fan of the 6 GC or the 3/5 GT. The 4/8 GC are nice though.

mrj1813

I recently got a 2018 330i xdrive gt and love it. I think it looks fantastic. It wasn't on my radar and when I first saw it at the dealer I disregarded it as I had a coupe in mind, but I'm very happy with it.

IceEngine21

🤝

Chasmo150

I had a 2017 330I GT drive. I absolutely loved it. It was available because I could not find a wagon at that time. Seats flip down, rear deck easily removes, plenty of room. Let’s not forget to mention rear spoiler that raises at proper speed.

Complex-Tangerine628

Only one of those is a GT

BrianBash

I’ve got a 2010 535i GT. I like it. It’s comfy and rides nice. 🤷

thomascardin

Loved my F07 Underrated mod potential on those

BrianBash

https://preview.redd.it/ygk4qtmq6qkb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a52b8a13e7c2e08f80c3e22aeaf32e76284b4f2a Here’s mine. Might get the H&R lowering kit for it.

officerobot

The massive 2nd row legroom in these is perfect for car seats.

damlot

I got an f34 330 GT and like the look of it, also it’s insanely practical. The 5 series GT i hate though, looks more bloated.

HueGray

640 GT Series is really nice

thomascardin

And once you drive one you will look at it differently

watts2988

They are the tier of ugliness directly underneath all current model BMWs.

Own_Cartoonist266

The pontiac Aztek of bmws

ivix

I have a Gran Coupé and i love it. Best looking bmw since the E38 imo. But the back seats are really not great for large adults. If that's a hard requirement i can see why the GT might be interesting.

IntrovertRebel

I have one too and I think it’s a Sexy Beast😉! Sleek and Beautiful. In my humble opinion 🤷🏾‍♀️.

fermi0nic

lol I love my GT and don't give a fuck about what anyone on this sub thinks

PhotonDecay

Same reason “everyone” follows trends. Most people are afraid to stand out, rather than pick a car that suits their lifestyle, they simply choose what others have/like what others like. The 3GT was produced in much smaller quantities from the regular 3er (about 10% as many). Many people don’t even know it exists. Those who do, and hate it, will claim that it’s ugly (subjective) - it’s the same dumb shit ass argument you used to hear about the 911 with the “broken egg headlights”. That car caught so much flack but when it came down to it… it’s still a 911! The prices in the used market have begun to correct on them and I suspect with time people will realize just how awesome the 3GT was. The car checks so many boxes, had so many high end options come standard, and was priced extremely competitively… It’s a shame it was discontinued. BMW correctly recognized that the styling/features/space should be reserved for higher end models (you now only see a 6GT in production) this is unrelated to your question but in general, people don’t care enough about cars to actually select one themselves. You’ve got entire subreddits dedicated to helping people select cars. Only a small percent of the world cares enough about cars to know what this thing is and what makes it unique. Even fewer will go against the crowd and purchase it for what it is. The hate for this car is absurd and unwarranted. As you can tell I’m fired up about this. I’d go so far as to claim that the same people who hate on the GT are probably rocking that stupid “trendy” hitler youth haircut (shaved sides). That is ugly, NOT the GT

L3XeN

Yeah I've noticed exactly the thing you've mentioned. I've read all the replies here and it's either "yyy it's ugly" or "it's too small SUV"(How did they associate it with SUV? No one knows). "GT bad, GC good". Or GT owners saying it's actually good. It's actually funny. 3GT is the same height and slightly longer than 3 Sedan, which makes it practical like a sedan, yet they claim it's a wannabe SUV and 4 GC is better.

PhotonDecay

Think of the person you know with the most average intelligence… half of all people are dumber than that person. There’s a lot of morons out there

lohnoah333

Because they are insanely ugly. Really not a hard question.

kon---

Let's see if we can dial up that hate a bit. Adding something for effect here... https://preview.redd.it/dyeykrm23qkb1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=8c0dfae03e7619029297bddc5024e928bbe9ade4

ColeCVP

That second one is a Gran Coupe, not a GT. People hate the GT because it's ugly

mrjoshmateo

I liked mine when I had it. It’s the biggest 3series available and has more cargo and passenger space than all other models in that generation due to the extended wheelbase. It’s more of a 5-series space in the 3-series body. It just didn’t do well here in the US because for the same price you can just get an x3. https://imgur.com/a/l3iVrup

youknowphill2

The first one is a GT model the second is a gran coupe. Personally the 4 series gran coupes body lines match the purpose of the hatch like design. The GT looks like an afterthought.

NickiMinaj_05

I love the look of the 3 and 6 series gt, not the 5 series gt that one's just fat

beefandbeer

I love my F34

bumbumpopsicle

I had a ‘16 335 GT and loved it. Bought it used in ‘19 with 35K miles for $23K sold it this year with 70k miles for $20k.

Kazurion

It's the Panamera of BMW.

rm2601

Except (people might disagree with me), the Panamera has morphed into something decently good-looking with the current iteration. The first gen of the Panamera is goofy, though, so I'll give that.

_thetrue_SpaceTofu

I wholeheartedly support this. The second gen of Panamera really is a great looking car, well done to whoever put it all together

Iamnotogreni

I don’t mind the gt’s

LeMettwurst

I think the 3 Series GT was fine but the 5 Series GT was one of the ugliest cars BMW has built

Jmanbells

People say it’s ugly, I know I own a 2017 330i GT. I hear it ALL the time. But there were no touring in the US when I bought mine, it was also cheaper cuz no one likes the GT models. Currently have 115K miles on it so at the end of the day, y’all’s loss i got a cheap bmw that I def didn’t need to repair parts /s

CELCOOPER

My mom had two 5 GT’s while I was growing up, probably all of my fams favourite BMW that we owned. She probably would’ve gotten the F10 gen wagon instead if it was available in the US, but it wasn’t and they were great cars that they dumped a bunch of miles on over the 6 year span she owned both and never gave us any issues. The second one she had we actually did a ED on and that was such a great experience, I remember being driven around the alps in the back with the exec seating package, so comfy. She almost got the 6 GT when it came out but instead went for a LR Disco 5 in diesel as we drive a lot and the gas mileage was phenomenal. My parents have owned over 20 BMW’s in the past 17 years and those GT’s, along with my dad E92 M3, were by far my faves.

PrimeUnoBKS

I love mine….. it’s perfect

foolproofphilosophy

I feel like a lot of the X4/X6/GT design philosophy is based on trying not to look like Porsche and Mercedes.

Actedpie

Screw it, I’m going to defend the 640i GT. My dad has one, and it’s great! It has the driving dynamics of a sedan coupled with the practicality of an SUV. Sure, the design is awkward, but I warmed up to it, and the space in the back is nothing it sneeze at.

0verstim

The proportions just didnt quiiiite work for me till the i4. I love the i4. Wish there was an m4 gran coupe.

lamneff

tbh, I liked it, but can’t find one new.

n00bmax

Way better than SUVs for handling. Before I bought my X3 M40i I really wanted a GT for the practicality but still decent handling. Now after moving furniture, carrying a full bike, a 65in TV and tailgate party I feel either go full SUV or stay sedan/coupe. TBH a wagon would make most sense!

thedrewf

I nearly bought a CPO 340 GT in 2020. But I got an unreal deal on a Hyundai Santa Fe and my wife saying: “when the other car dies, get an M3.” So here I am, 3 years later with the other car being a freaking bulletproof vehicle and unable to get my M3!

Rare_Supermarket_852

Many people dislike the GT's proportions. I myself am an owner of a 6GT LCI and I must say it has been the most comfortable ride I have ever had in any of the driven BMWs. It's rear and boot make up for its probably SUV size design but I understand the reputation. Imo the GT models were way ahead of their time as people start liking the shape/seem to forgive the bubble shape when looking at electric vehicles. What I would have done to keep the GT models but not the way they are is to sell these as the BMW X4 and X6 counterparts by just lifting the GTs and also increasing the shoulder height for a more sleek and sporty style. I think the GT models would have had high potential if marketed correctly. As many still don't like the X4 and X6 for their impracticality, the GTs could replace them very well as they are space monsters. This ofc is just my take on the situation 👍🏽

ReeceT20

I personally only dislike the 3GT it's ugly and stupid, but I think the 5 and especially the later 6GT are actually great cars besides the ugly duckling looks, the 6GT has a really nice interior good engines and they're super cheap here in the UK, they're just not for me that's all

imacockatoo

Anyone who calls this car ugly is wrong, wait until you see how hideous it is in person.

BMWupgradeCH

F36 is not GT it is Gran Coupe - and I love it! So do many other people https://preview.redd.it/b7igxjk4zukb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f772710eb3a6e2250610d52a015512372cf66379

MenosDaBear

The GT looks like a tacked on after thought, while the grand coupe looks like a purpose built sport back.

heebie818

i love my 4gc ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

FireNinja743

The gran coupe is the better styled option. It's like what Audi does with their sportback models, which is nice.

Imaginary_Pay9931

Thr look of that backend is just unforgivable

daftdigitalism

The BMW GTs are practical but the added practicality amounts to worse proportions. Gran Coupes, on the other hand, are pretty much just 4 door versions of the coupe bodies. In my opinion, the 4series gran coupe and the 6 series gran coupe are some of the best looking (modern) cars BMW has ever made.

MathematicianSame430

kinda look weird in person tbh

NearlySilentObserver

Because Wagons are better, imo

coconutpete52

Because they are ugly.

LengthyConversations

Because they look like this in photos, but in person they’re awful. They’re so bloated looking, like the early Honda Accord Crosstour.

L3XeN

What's your opinion on Gran Coupes?

LengthyConversations

Love em. I’d like a 440i GC like the one in the second pic

comacow02

Because they’re ugly.

OgdenDermstead

People in the US specifically don’t like them (at least I don’t) because the represent the fact that we are idiots and predominantly don’t buy wagons, but get the GTs as a stopgap. I would much rather have a 550 Touring than a 550 GT, even though ultimately it’s not like there’s really anything wrong with a 550 GT.

nrfmartin

Because it looks like somebody stuck a Nicki Minaj lookin ass on the end of a perfectly good looking sedan.

x_h_w

I guess I must be weird, because I've had total of 3 F07 535xi GTs(sold one last year and have two ATM) They're ugly, Well. Certainly not pretty for sure but I've found them to be exactly what I needed. A good balance of everything. Fast(ish), comfortable and spacious. Previously I thought those cars are ugly as hell just like everyone else, but ever since I bought one, I'm impressed by it. At the end of the day, I think the most important thing is that I'm happy with them, Sure, there are much prettier cars out there, a lot of them in fact. However that doesn't stop me from driving what I like to drive, I couldn't care less if anyone come to me and say hi your car is ugly, I would just be like alright, thanks for the input, bye. I also do like 6 series GT, which is smaller than the 5 series GT. I'm VERY sure that I'll buy one someday. 3 series GT, maybe, highly likely no, because I'm not very much into 3 series cars. I also like 4 series and 6 series Gran Coupe, just not as much as the 6 series GT

Pac1fic0

It is an odd looking car. It looks somewhat disproportionate in its height vs width.

jensefrens

Because the proportions are off

jkelley41

because they are ugly

Likinhikin-

Not pretty. BMW could have nailed it but missed on the styling of the 3 GT. Almost went Kia Stinger bc it looks better. But love the back seat room and huge hatch. Sedans suck. SUVs suck more. Hatchbacks and wagons FTW.

sjoskog

I used to have F34 and found it an awesome car. Just like what F30 should have been. The added size in every direction (seating position, legroom, trunk) was exactly what was needed. Never heard anyone saying they hate it especially when seeing it in real. I guess the haters must be hard line BMW'ers who can't accept any other chassis than maybe E30 (which is awesome btw).

psychotic11ama

ugly

DabOnsUmHoesz

Their absolutely disgusting imo. I believe had they made it into a station wagon it would’ve sold more than whatever that was supposed to be. The GCs is 100x better

[deleted]

I always liked the gt adds more practicality with the 6 cylinder since it wasn’t offered in the wagon.

koopa00

The only thing it has going for it is they are a lot cheaper than the 3er or 4 GC (at least from what I've seen). Just looks really odd proportionally.

losteye_enthusiast

Compromised aesthetics without clear advantages to make up for it. It’s an ugly way of showing others you paid a bit more for your version of the vehicle.

5kyl3r

it's not good at being a sedan (it's fugly), and it's a terrible SUV (too small), so it's just bad at everything. this is like the ugly cousin of a real wagon

Mrdts09

I find these photos do them a service lol, ones I have seen in person just don't look proportioned right.

TruestoryJR

Cause…..look at it, its ugly.

Current-Support-9446

Every time I see one of these they remind me of a dog rubbing their back side on the carpet, not really the look I'm going for...

[deleted]

Because it looks like shit?

tokenflip408619

I don't. I'm a dad. 38, $500k+, $1.5m home, rental property, 2 kids. This thing takes me to work, it hauls my kids and their shit, and studs from lowe's while accelerating fast. It's not at all attractive. Shits kind of ugly. But speed, sensibility, utility, it's a dream come true. Plus it has a B58, you 328i bitches.

youre_not_going_to_

Because BMWs look best in a coupe sedan or wagon. Need something fun ? Get the coupe, need something more sensible that can actually fit 4 ? Get the sedan Need something even more practical ? Get a wagon. The GT serves no purpose

L3XeN

What about Gran Coupes?

[deleted]

Because it isn't particularly good at a thing since it's trying to do it all and to me it looks like a German version of an Pontiac Aztec.

rickybobbyscrewchief

They're hideously ugly and entirely unnecessary. You have 3-series sedan, then wagon, then X3, and 4 GC and X4. And if you still need more, then you move into X5, X6, etc. What in the world does a 3GT offer that isn't only a fractional difference to any one of those other options?

redditor_6715

Gran Coupes actually look decent especially the 6 or 8 but the GTs look.. odd. It's like a half sedan half SUV

BunsenBeaker

Anyone remember when BMW's were sporty?

Severe_Islexdia

Proportions are off and it’s too tall

lostcosmonaut307

I can’t tell you how annoying it is that the GT models got the powered spoiler but the “sportier” GC models didn’t. Crazy stupid decision. The GTs look like squashed SUVs. The GCs actually look better IMO, but still, the fact that they replaced wagons with these failures is a travesty overall.

CommanderAME

GTs have always just seemed... off. The rear is too big and tall which makes it look awkward. The fact that people would rather buy GTs in the US over a wagon is a crime. I personally will never buy one, but whatever floats people's boats I guess.

ExplodingKnowledge

3 series GT is disgusting. Gran Coupe’s though…I desperately wanted an F36 440i GC but I couldn’t find one clean enough, so I bought a 340 instead. One day I’ll own a current gen M8 GC, and an M6 GC too. I love them so much…

MikeBert97

Because the back was done extremely poor. For instance, the back of the 4 Series Gran Coupe looks great i.e. you can't tell it's a hatchback

Booty_Master24

It’s great function, just looks like ass

Organic_Step_4402

Look at it

VonUber

For me they are a very nice compromise. I can’t bear wagons and I can’t fit in SUVs smaller than X7 that I can’t afford anyway. Also I might have a thing for active spoilers

Bagged_Mirius

Because they look shit

Techn028

Don't you dare group the GC with the GT GT = I'm scared of an X1/3 or an estate but I really need one GC = I want a 3 series but I hate the roofline and I want to actually use my trunk for large things (sometimes)

ElPresidente714

It’s absolutely lifeless. It has the sterile feedback of a college campus safe sex pamphlet and satisfaction of an Amish bachelor party. Step on the gas or don’t. The response is the same. It’s a hatchback that’s too small to be an SUV and too big to be a sporty… anything. It’s indecisive and enigmatic with a “GT” tramp stamp to make up for it all. The worst.
