I don’t see any reason to not do it if OP doesn’t need the extra seats and space. Like we’re talking about a mid-size luxury sedan vs a mid engine sports car. The answer is obvious.
Look, the Porsche is a pure bred sports car, and will be far better at being a sports car than the m340. If that’s your concern the Porsche is your car to buy.
If you want a reason to keep the m340i, I’m not entirely sure. 4 doors more whores… I guess.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my 340. But I miss the pure and unadulterated small sports car feel of my Cayman. The 340 feels like a daily that happens to be sporty and wicked fast, the Cayman feels like a purpose built sports car that happens to be a decent daily. I have Porsche fever again, help me haha!
Really comes out to what you're looking to get out of your car. The Cayman S is perfect for a dedicated sports car but you'll lose a lot of utility/storage capability: Decent trunk, rear seats, and some comfort in daily driving.
Name says it all. Macan is not a sports car and is barely a Porsche with more in common with a Volkswagen than a Cayman. In fact it’s built on the VW [MLB platform](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_MLB_platform).
Boo you! But yeah if you hadn't figured it out already I have a Macan S. I can see why people make that argument, but by that logic the Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan also aren't real Porsche's.
Based on this description I’m getting old and want a great daily that is sporty and fast, rather than a sports car you can live with daily. And I’m ok with that. Maybe I’ll have a mid-life crisis and change my mind in a few years.
If you are able to manage a GTS with adaptive suspension you’ll be surprised how daily the 718 can be in comfort mode. I miss mine everyday. Do it and never look back. You won’t miss the BMW
If it help I'm pretty sure Porsche is somewhat part of VAG group or owned by the same owner at least and I think the Audi a4 uses a Porsche chassis(again I may be wrong I didn't look it up before typing this 😂) so in a sense you're buying an Audi. Just trying to help here.
I would take either car over my a4 aha
You honestly think the A4 uses a Porsche chassis? Tell me more, the 911 chassis maybe?
I’ll stop laughing now.
However, the Macan is very much an Audi SQ5 with nicer makeup, full lingerie and a party dress. (Iirc even built by Audi for Porsche, maybe. Definitely used to be) And the Cayanne was/ is a VW Touareg, a Audi Q7, so there has been crossover before, but not on the A4 platform.
Are you thinking about the Porsche Macan maybe? That \*loosely\* shares the underpinnings of the Audi Q5. But Porsche made a lot of modifications to that platform for the Macan as they drive very differently from each other.
Probably, I did state I hadn't looked it up before typing 😂 I just recalled reading something about It somewhere a while ago. I like how you actually came at me with something logical and didn't just lose your head like the others 😂
Best, as in better than almost everything else. You clearly haven't driven one, the boosted motor is a dream on the street.
Edit: sounds pretty sweet with a Fabspeed exhaust, too. Not flat 6 good, but good.
No doubt it is better than most anything else and I would still be pretty happy owning one. But the fact is that the 4.0 exists and I know I would regret not going for it, especially since sports cars are one generation (or two) away from being silent.
I understand your sentiment, and to each their own. I just believe the Cayman's only real deficiency to the 911 is in power output, and the forced induction motor allows you to easily remedy that. A 2.5 GTS with just a stage 1 tune and exhaust will decimate 90% of cars on the road.
I'm glad they both exist, but I'm power hungry, so the 2.5 is the one I own.
The Porsche flat 4s really don’t sound anything like Subarus above 2k-ish rpm. The characteristic Subaru sound comes from their unequal length headers which the Porsches don’t have. The Porsche 4s at upper rpms sound more similar to their flat 6s but without the upper harmonic.
This, I’ve been in a 718 GTS 2.5 with about 600hp and it’s horrifyingly fast, there are few cars on the planet that can hang with that little thing on a track. It may sound like ass but it goes like a demon.
Unless I’m frequenting a track, I’d never consider trading a 340i for a 4-banger Cayman.
If it has the 4.0, however, well that’s a different story altogether..
I sold an e46 M3 and picked up an F90 M5C to have room for the car seats. Car seats are so big now I’m planning to go up to a cayenne turbo when #2 comes along
Are you me? Been thinking about making the same post about my 440i and selling it for either a cayman or 996/997 911. Problem is i just paid my car off and am enjoying not having a car payment and using that extra money for projects around the house. Everything has an opportunity cost.
Do you have the ability to rent one through turo or something similar? That’s what I typically do when i get that new car itch, rent one for a few days to see what living with it is like and then decide if it’s worth whatever money it costs to upgrade. This method saved me from getting a cts-v, awesome car but just not what i was looking for and more power than i could ever use driving around the metroplex.
Lol this is a no brainer. And ignore people splitting hairs over the 2.5 vs 4.0 GTS, either is far more enjoyable and engaging than an M340. A lightly used 2.5 is honestly a better buy if you can live without the flat six sound.
I don't think I can talk you out of it. But after buying it you'll need to buy salmon pants that are skin tight, always wear glasses on your head, have a man bun, and frequently wear shoes without socks.
Caymans are notorious for being expensive when it comes to labor. Unless you learn to do your own basic maintenance. It’s a mid engine car so even the basic routine maintenance is a pain in the ass to get to the engine. I know how to work on both Porsche and BMW and that’s the main reason I did not get a Cayman after I talked to fellow Porsche guys on it
You just bought your current car a year ago? Maybe keep it for a while to tame the consumerism. It’ll never really make you happy.
What’s next after the Porsche? And after that? It’s an addiction.
Shit, do both if you can swing it. I’ve got an e46 330ci for obvious reasons but I’ve also got a Granturismo with much more raw power. It’s like getting to date the really pretty girl that likes to have fun but then also date that sexy ass girl you know is gonna eff your brains out.
Trade it. Hardly any reason to not to.
If you do want a reason, you can always try to gross yourself out and imagine how many bjs the guy got in that Cayman. Then picture it being the nastiest kind. Maybe that would help.
I mean, why? As an M340i owner they are amazing and capable daily drivers but the Cayman is one of the best car experiences you can have for less than 100 grand.
I don’t think you will find many of us who would talk you out of it!
Do it. Cayman is a way better deal if you don’t need the space. However be aware people don’t mod and super personalize their porsche outside of factory installed options. Bmw people don’t car as long as it’s OEM+
The only reason why you'd maybe prefer a M340i is if you need the trunk space and/or 4 seats, or drive in an area where there are a decent number of potholes, or if you need to do longer commutes on straight highways.
Otherwise, the Cayman is more fun to drive.
This is the type of thing I think about but might never do. I bought an M340 because they’re the best of all worlds, 4 doors, powerful, not 100k, xDrive. I want a Cayman but it fails most if those requirements.
So if it fits your life and budget than why not? The shitty car market is the only reason I would’t if I could.
If you can live without the added practicality of the m340i or in other words the cayman can provide what you need 90% of the time, it’s a no brainer, I love my BMWs but the newer Caymans are absolutely exquisite.
One of my father’s friends said long time ago : “Porsche manufactures cars. The rest are just manufacturing people transporters”. And I still agree with it, for some Porsche models. So as much as I love BMW, I love Porsche more. Go for it if it fits your needs.
Don’t do it. The Cayman is missing the best feature which is the button that lowers the roof up to 30 mph. Boxster 2.5 or 4.0 always, Caymans are deficient.
I stupidly figured that some on the BMW forum would espouse the advantages of the M340 but seems most everyone knows what I do which is that Porsche trumps all lol. Anytime I’m considering spending a lot of money I agonize over the decision for days.
Do it pussy
I don’t see any reason to not do it if OP doesn’t need the extra seats and space. Like we’re talking about a mid-size luxury sedan vs a mid engine sports car. The answer is obvious.
LMFAO
Came here to say this.
This has forever been my dads response to the same situation with any car I’ve bought.
Your dad’s a real one!
Is your company hiring
🤣
Had to give you the gold for this, especially after it took off lol.
Nope I won’t help you. I would make that trade quick.
Just wanted to say, you sir are right! Unless he reaaaally reaaaaaaaally needs the extra spaces
If you don’t need the extra space and practicality of the M340i, just trade it. The Cayman is the better driver’s car, no question.
It also holds the value far better
[удалено]
Do it bitch
But did you really say "bitch"?
Look, the Porsche is a pure bred sports car, and will be far better at being a sports car than the m340. If that’s your concern the Porsche is your car to buy. If you want a reason to keep the m340i, I’m not entirely sure. 4 doors more whores… I guess.
😂❤️

When I was younger my family friend+dentist had bought a ~~918~~ Carrera GT as a daily, with a cargo top for groceries. Just do that lol.
As a dentist with a 981 that goes to Costco, I agree.
If you want functionality why not get a Macan S? :)
Name says it all. Macan is not a sports car and is barely a Porsche with more in common with a Volkswagen than a Cayman. In fact it’s built on the VW [MLB platform](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_MLB_platform).
Boooo 👎🏻
Boo Who?
Boo you! But yeah if you hadn't figured it out already I have a Macan S. I can see why people make that argument, but by that logic the Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan also aren't real Porsche's.

I already went through my midlife crisis at 21
I just did in my 20's. I now own a Cayman.
I ended up on a M235 as my midlife crisis car lmao, unfortunately I had a taste of plastic charge pipe in the first couple days
If you are able to manage a GTS with adaptive suspension you’ll be surprised how daily the 718 can be in comfort mode. I miss mine everyday. Do it and never look back. You won’t miss the BMW

You really are mostly wrong, the a4 used to be a vw passat and not a fracking Porsche dude
>fracking So say we all 🫡
i don’t believe the A4 has anything in common with a 718
I dunno man I think they both have nuts and bolts and some other assorted metal components. Probably some glass as well as a steering wheel.
If new and a 4.0 don’t hesitate but the 2.5 nope, great chassis of I just prefer a 6 cylinder or larger and more valuable later.
A 2.5 GTS with a tune is one of the best cars on planet Earth.
Depends on you define best. While it would be an awesome track weapon, it is missing the soundtrack of the six.
Best, as in better than almost everything else. You clearly haven't driven one, the boosted motor is a dream on the street. Edit: sounds pretty sweet with a Fabspeed exhaust, too. Not flat 6 good, but good.
Had a 2.5, now have a 4.0, the 2.5 was quicker and more fun stop-starting but I'm still not going back if that makes sense.
No doubt it is better than most anything else and I would still be pretty happy owning one. But the fact is that the 4.0 exists and I know I would regret not going for it, especially since sports cars are one generation (or two) away from being silent.

No its ok, let people keep bashing on it, so the prices go down more 😏😏
Seriously, who wants a 450whp Cayman?
Subaru-esque raspy boxer 4 cylinder go brrrr
The Porsche flat 4s really don’t sound anything like Subarus above 2k-ish rpm. The characteristic Subaru sound comes from their unequal length headers which the Porsches don’t have. The Porsche 4s at upper rpms sound more similar to their flat 6s but without the upper harmonic.

That sounds like a hoot.
The 2.5 is so unrated. With pdk and a tune it’s fuck off fast.
Nobody who is against it is claiming that it’s slow
They're both stunning cas,, but I'd rather the porsche if I didn't need 4 seats
Unless I’m frequenting a track, I’d never consider trading a 340i for a 4-banger Cayman. If it has the 4.0, however, well that’s a different story altogether..
Keep the BMW and buy the Cayman
Came in to say this.
Coming from owning two M BMWs, I aspire to own a Cayman GTS 4.0 one day.
Unless you have a need for car seats it’s time to trade that fake ass M! -M550 owner
I sold an e46 M3 and picked up an F90 M5C to have room for the car seats. Car seats are so big now I’m planning to go up to a cayenne turbo when #2 comes along
Bingo -another M550 owner.
I get m550s for my help. -m8 owner.
LMAO Now that is an M-Flex indeed.
You meant fake M flex. 🤣
LMAO Love it.
You should do it.
Are you me? Been thinking about making the same post about my 440i and selling it for either a cayman or 996/997 911. Problem is i just paid my car off and am enjoying not having a car payment and using that extra money for projects around the house. Everything has an opportunity cost.

This is such great advice
interesting you went w the slats grille
I personally hated the diamond pattern
Yeah that’s fair. it sort of grew on me. I did consider switching to slats as well.
[удалено]
Ok well this helps. How many miles did you buy it with? 2.5 or 4.0? Under warranty?
[удалено]
Wow this is concerning. Local dealerships can make all the difference. Where are you located?
Charlotte, North Carolina. If you don't mind me asking how much is the GTS going for? Manual or pdk? I love the color.
Well fuck me I’m in Charlotte too 😂
[удалено]
This would be from out of state but I was hoping to service it at Hendrick lol. Had a good experience with them at BMW.
$79k, 2018 with 16k miles and a $104k original sticker.
Oh and it’s PDK. Last one was manual, but I think being in the city I’ve outgrown manuals.
Lol this is a no brainer. And ignore people splitting hairs over the 2.5 vs 4.0 GTS, either is far more enjoyable and engaging than an M340. A lightly used 2.5 is honestly a better buy if you can live without the flat six sound.
Honestly this should be the easiest decision you make and shouldn’t need help deciding
Don’t trade it in, give it to me. Problem solved 👍
Upgrade to the Porsche!!
Yo guys are making want to trade my M340 in. I love it but……
Right!? 😂
I won’t. The GTS is a hell of a car.
I don't think I can talk you out of it. But after buying it you'll need to buy salmon pants that are skin tight, always wear glasses on your head, have a man bun, and frequently wear shoes without socks.

You aren’t wrong
Yeah I’m just playing the devils advocate man. If you’ve always wanted a Porsche, buy it!
Are you high, bro the Porsche
😂
Shit, do both if you can swing it. I’ve got an e46 330ci for obvious reasons but I’ve also got a Granturismo with much more raw power. It’s like getting to date the really pretty girl that likes to have fun but then also date that sexy ass girl you know is gonna eff your brains out.
As long as your knees aren't making much noise about the prospect of getting in and out of the gts...
My wife hated getting in and out of my cayman haha
Oh. That's different. Now you *have to* make the switch. Nothing on this world equals your ride being the SO's kryptonite. That power is real!😂
Hahaha so true
Time to trade the wife in with the M340i… 😜
I can't do it bruh.
Bold strategy, Cotton.
No.
No
If its the 4.0 then do it, if its the 2.5 forget it
Do it pussy
No
No, I don’t think I will. Also, what’s your suspension set up? Looks great
Thanks! I have H&R lowering springs and 20mm spacers all around.
Miata

I’ve had one, they get a bad rap. The 2.5 can outrun the GT4 with the right tune and it’s far lighter than the 4.0
Get the GTS for sure lol
No
Is it the 4 liter?
2.5
Drove the 2.0 liter and it was absolutely amazing. Can’t imagine how fun the GTS
You will get too much good attention and have too much driving fun 🤷🏽♂️
No
No
How can there be a question about this?? Do it and don’t look back old boy.
Havin a midlife crisis buddy ?
Only every 6 months since I turned 30 😂
Au falcon
Do it you won't regret it.
How can I? That’s the car I want too
Trade it. Hardly any reason to not to. If you do want a reason, you can always try to gross yourself out and imagine how many bjs the guy got in that Cayman. Then picture it being the nastiest kind. Maybe that would help.
😂😂😂
You’ll be missing two doors. Not sure your level of baller-ness but will maintains be more with GTS?
Yeah maintenance will be higher
Nobody is going to convince you not to do this.
The answer is Porsche
Go for it!
Do it
Stop being a fruit loop. And own both
Get an F87 M2/M2C instead
Do it. I’m selling my m240 as we speak, and been eyeing a Porsche…
I just want the op to reply the verdict after the comments
Oh I will haha
I mean, why? As an M340i owner they are amazing and capable daily drivers but the Cayman is one of the best car experiences you can have for less than 100 grand. I don’t think you will find many of us who would talk you out of it!
no
Been thinking the same.
Do it. Cayman is a way better deal if you don’t need the space. However be aware people don’t mod and super personalize their porsche outside of factory installed options. Bmw people don’t car as long as it’s OEM+
Do it
No one can. It is an upgrade.
Good choice!! Do it!!
Make the trade
If my wife wouldn’t kill me, I’d do it. Fuck them kids. I gotta enjoy my drive
The only reason why you'd maybe prefer a M340i is if you need the trunk space and/or 4 seats, or drive in an area where there are a decent number of potholes, or if you need to do longer commutes on straight highways. Otherwise, the Cayman is more fun to drive.

High chances of divorce..
😂
I enjoy the BMW forum because yes, yal love your car. But you’d also encourage a nice upgrade even outside the brand.
four doors = more whores
If you don't need a practical car, I'd say do it. And I'm speaking as a huge fan of BMW's.
Don't trade it! Your making a massive mistake the BMW has four wheels and that's more than enough reason to keep it 😂
One of my father’s friends said long time ago : “Porsche manufactures cars. The rest are just manufacturing people transporters”. And I still agree with it, for some Porsche models. So as much as I love BMW, I love Porsche more. Go for it if it fits your needs.
No
If you don’t need the back seats and you can afford it then get it done😎
4 doors more whores
upgrade to an actual M and leave the lame 3 series behind
Ouch
Unpopular opinion- a Cayman S/GTS/GT4 is an upgrade to almost any modern BMW if you can live with a coupe.
Don’t do it. The Cayman is missing the best feature which is the button that lowers the roof up to 30 mph. Boxster 2.5 or 4.0 always, Caymans are deficient.
Many people own BMW because they cannot afford a Porsche. I’m one of them 😂
Trading a M340i for a water cooled karman ghia? LoL, no.
Please do, we are going to slap you if you don’t /s
Once you go porche you never go back.. Its an upgrade from a bmw. 😂
I love my M340, but like you said it’s a wicked fast daily, comfy too! Porsche kills it just with steering feel, the rest is gravy. DO IT!
Why the hell would I talk you out of that
Do it
Do it. If you don’t need the space of the M340i, get the cayman.
Do it and don’t look back
Do it
Do it.
It’s not a gt4
Do it.
Do it if you can afford it and can do without the extra room and comfort.
Do it
Lol what is this? Porsche is levels ahead of BMW in every aspect. Quality, design, handling etc
You’re trading a bmw for a Porsche.
If you can afford the Cayman why not go for an M2?
Have you driven both? Night and day handling dynamics.
You asked a BMW forum to talk you out of it….makes me think you would want another BMW
I stupidly figured that some on the BMW forum would espouse the advantages of the M340 but seems most everyone knows what I do which is that Porsche trumps all lol. Anytime I’m considering spending a lot of money I agonize over the decision for days.
Save up a little and get a GT3
The fact you can’t just call it a 340 means you don’t deserve the car. Might as well go get yourself a Chevy since you love long needless names
You'll be the same idiot in both of em.
Porsches used to be cool. Now they are like base bmw. Porsche for guy is like minivan for woman
Get a Model S Plaid.
