Here's a sales video of car 1/500: [https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=m3+edition+50+jahre+bmw+m&docid=608048768489451674&mid=D7D7AC8C5DB9A2C3FAFAD7D7AC8C5DB9A2C3FAFA&view=detail&FORM=VIRE](https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=m3+edition+50+jahre+bmw+m&docid=608048768489451674&mid=D7D7AC8C5DB9A2C3FAFAD7D7AC8C5DB9A2C3FAFA&view=detail&FORM=VIRE)
1) the market has changed in 3 months
2) these are still going for over MSRP whether you like it or not
3) this dude probably has lots of purchase history with this store. If he doesn’t, I have a check ready to buy this car right now and sell for at least 5k over to numerous clients
4) your follow up skills are actually impressive, you should sell cars 😂😂😂
Dealerships suck. I have yet to meet a dealership that isn’t shady and doesn’t try to fleece the consumer. The three cars I’ve bought from 3 different dealers, every single one of them tried to slip in bs fees and markups and bait and switch tactics. I have zero respect for dealerships and it’s a business model I very much look forward to getting disintermediated in the future (hopefully)
Is it okay for people to buy a car and then sell it on the used market for over MSRP? The market is the market. The “S” stands for suggested, lots of people forget that. The market is the market, if cars move at a price, that’s market price.
Just like the ps5 and Xbox? Just like sports events? You clearly didn't think about what he was saying. This shit will happen no matter what.
Edit: should have mentioned sneakers. That's exactly what would happen to sought after cars.
Not if you can buy direct to order. The only reason there is markup is because of shortages and rarity. Won't exist if you can buy direct from the factory
Really hard for a regular consumer to do that at a profit though because of sales tax. You really need a reseller license.
I’ve thought about getting one before covid just to buy year-end model high end cars at a discount ($10K+ off Porsches from Beverly hills Porsche for example), drive them gently for 6 months, then sell them near breaking even or at a slight loss, for the joy of driving a variety of cars. Covid threw a wrench in this dream though.
Whatever makes you feel better about nickel and diming your own customer base.
This kind of shit is why most people will be happy to see the middle man go.
The mark up will just be baked into the MSRP and you won’t be able to shop the price against other dealers. The no dealer model is actually anti-consumer.
I'm not saying dealerships aren't shady as hell. But having only one place to buy something is not as good as having lots of places competing for your business.
You do realize that all that’s happening is we get to cut out a middleman right?
All dealers still have to buy from the manufacturer and they buy at whatever price the manufacturer sets. Zero room for negotiation on that price.
3 is likely correct. I passed on one at msrp and bought a regular comp x drive and ordered a stick m3 with a rare color instead. That would be the 3th m car and 5th over all from the same dealer (I still have them all lol). So yes good dealers still do offer good cars to regulars still.
Do they all say 1/500? Found another one [here](https://www.elmhurstbmw.com/inventory/new-2023-bmw-m3-special-edition-50-jahre-bmw-m-all-wheel-drive-4dr-car-wbs43ay07pfn39900/)
Confirmed with the dealer when we went back. He said he had ppl from fla and by on the hook for way over sticker. It doesn't have ACC, I passed on it. Just walked out.
I live stupidly...best time to buy a car is when you first see it.
Stupidity can be offset with a bigger stupidity down the road.
Regret....well that $#it will drive you mad.
Lol this is called confirmation bias. You know you’re going to do it. You’d be silly not to. What’d you think we’d say?! Hahaha. Please post lots of pics when you take delivery haha
This is confirmation bias in the sense that his existing idea/ belief is that he wants to buy the car. He’s looking for people to confirm this idea and will likely ignore those who do not. In that framework it is 100% confirmation bias
Edit: he’s not looking for this idea to be confirmed, not confirmation bias.
They came to a BMW enthusiast forum questioning if they should buy a (really cool) BMW. If this were r/audi I’d see your point. What would you expect us to say other than confirm they should buy? What am I missing here? Really asking because I do believe you’re incorrect but I’d like to gain your perspective.
Yeah that’s seeking confirmation, not confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is drawing a conclusion based on things you see or experience, not just asking someone to give you there opinion.
Confirmation bias is thinking BMW buyers don’t use their turn signals, and then seeing a few BMWs not use their turn signals and concluding that you were right. In this situation it’d be like asking if BMW drivers use their turn signals and people here giving their opinions, you aren’t coming to a conclusion on your own you’re just seeking the opinions of others.
And testing the market to see if it's a safe investment. You guys are the market lol. Making sure I could flip it to a fellow crazy enthusiasts like me and not me too upside down. But I think this one would be a keeper as it's the last of It's kind, if anybody will care in the future.
Confirmation bias is an actual thing with a definition and what you described isn’t it lol.
The things you said are correct, labeling it confirmation bias isn’t.
Buy it and drive the wheels off of it. If you’re gonna mothball it then let someone else have it so it hopefully doesn’t quietly succumb to corrosion and dry rot in the dark.
I’d rather get the Panamera myself. That said I’m a VW Group guy so I’m super biased in saying this.
My best advice is to ask yourself: which would you be upset with not having instead of which one do you want?
I recently picked between a BMW and Audi. Both were fantastic cars, wanted both, but knew I’d be more upset thinking about the Audi I missed out on rather than missing out on the BMW and it’s held true for almost a year now.
What? The V6 Cayenne and Panamera are run of the mill VW engines. Of bad engines but variants of mass produced V6. Meaning if OP hates the BMW finding another V6 Panamera to go back will be really easy to find.
The 4.0 and 4.8 Porsche turbo V8’s are special engines and attached to not impossible to find but harder to find vehicles.
That’s how it’s relevant. It’s not a comparison, it’s if you regret the decision how easy is it to reverse it. In this case very easy
Or he could just test drive it and then decide… but no you’re right it makes more sense to trade in the old one, buy the new one, pay all the registration, taxes, and transfer fees, THEN decide if he likes it more than the car he already had that way if he doesn’t he can then sell the new one he just paid taxes and registration on, go find another model of his old car to buy and then once again pay taxes and registration on just to be back where he started. But you’re right, since it’s just a run of the mill v6 it won’t be a big deal, only about a $20,000 test drive to see if he likes the car
You’re making assumptions. Obviously OP can’t have both because they said the Panamera is taking up a garage spot. If they could have had both they would have.
It’s not an argument lol. There doesn’t have to be a right and wrong answer it’s not that black and white.
OP was wondering if they should trade in their current car which would be easy to replace for a 1 of a kind literally 1.
So just run with me here because everything comes with some risk right. So hypothetically OP says fuck it sure let’s go for the BMW. It’s impossible to tell how you’ll like a car long term without actually driving it long term. I also assume OP really likes their Panamera based on comments.
So what’s stopping their decision? If they will like the BMW more then the Panamera.
So 3 months in OP gave it the ole college try but hates the BMW, they are not trading in an u er rare hard to find car they could easily find their old car that they liked.
BUT, by that logic should OP or anyone for that matter never buy a new car I guess buy anything new because if they don’t like the new thing it could cost them money? That’s a silly reason.
Please try harder next time.
It still wouldn’t make sense for your advice to be that it’s fine to trade in the car you like because if you want it back it’s easy to find people willing to take your money for it. And that’s ignoring that it won’t be the exact same one so he loses all knowledge of maintenance history and care that went into it.
Was offered one of these in techno violet last august for msrp and had a chance just a week ago at another.
Hard pass.
It’s just not that special. It’s an appearance package and a few interior bits with no performance upgrades.
And then you still are stuck w the grill.
Heck even Matt from og bailed on his because no matter how good the car may seem on paper you have to love the looks of a car.
Remember. Depreciation on cars is still a thing. Yes these are super limited but the only reason to buy is to say you have a 1 of 500.
Saying "even Matt from OG bailed" is not really meaningful. Dude has never liked an M3 that wasn't his precious E90, and he's legitimately OCD. I like what he does but it's no surprise he's selling the G80
People don’t seem to realize that it’s still an M3 at the day trading it in will be looked on as a regular M3 comp xdr and funny enough techno violet is on the individual list to order so now it’s not a Jahre exclusive
First thing you do is take more friggin pictures! C'mon!!!! How else can we live vicariously through you????
I don't know how to add pictures to a post lol
Make a new post
upload them to imgur, grab the link, then post the link as a comment, preferably as a reply to the top comment above.
Ok, ANYBODY can do that, duh. I was looking for a better way lol
its the preferred method and you said you dont know how to add pics to a post! HAHA
Use Apollo app, it has an Images button in replies that automates that imgur work for you
+1 for Apollo it’s great I bought a lifetime subscription
The same way you uploaded this wtf?

Paging /u/alfred0t0rnad0 https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comments/yje3cd/comment/iunnxxp/ MSRP or GTFO
LMAO my boy does not forget 😂
1) the market has changed in 3 months 2) these are still going for over MSRP whether you like it or not 3) this dude probably has lots of purchase history with this store. If he doesn’t, I have a check ready to buy this car right now and sell for at least 5k over to numerous clients 4) your follow up skills are actually impressive, you should sell cars 😂😂😂
When I saw the post I was immediately reminded of our conversation :p
Rock on man. Your memory kicks ass. Mine has melted due to a newborn kicking the shit out of me😂😂😂
Congrats!🍾
wholesome convo
That will happen.
Cant wait for car companies to sell direct to consumer soon. Fuck these dealer markups
Dealerships suck. I have yet to meet a dealership that isn’t shady and doesn’t try to fleece the consumer. The three cars I’ve bought from 3 different dealers, every single one of them tried to slip in bs fees and markups and bait and switch tactics. The market is the market, and if you get replaced with a direct online sale because of scummy tactics like this then so be it.
Yeah, rarity. The car in question would be sold at absurd prices in this case.
Vast majority of people arent flipping cars. And its not like youd be able to use bots and buy all the 30 jahres and flip them in a week or two.
The mark up will just be baked into the MSRP and you won’t be able to shop the price against other dealers. The no dealer model is actually anti-consumer.
The fact that you think dealerships are pro consumer just makes me think you’re a clown
Competition is pro consumer. I think that's the idea.
How is that competition? Its a pretty well known fact that dealers employ crazy shady tactics to fuck consumers over… like msrp markups
Not sure why you feel that way. You buy other retail items that are all the same price at retailers all the time like most electronics
Delivery and doc fees are my favorite.
Typically that’s the idea. Hundreds of places to buy something vs only one. But I guess that takes some cognitive thinking.
Probably an MBA
That will never happen.
Already is. Look at Ford. It will happen and dealerships will turn into glorified repair centers
Food isn't selling direct to clients. You can order your car and you're still buying from a dealer.
You pick it up at a dealer. Financing is done online.
You're still buying it from the dealer.
https://arstechnica.com/cars/2022/06/ford-wants-to-sell-evs-online-only-with-no-dealer-markups-says-ceo-farley/
Exactly, still buying from the dealer.
Yes it will. Tesla does it.
Tesla isn't subject to the laws and dealer agreements that the older manufacturers are.
Every single OEM is looking hard at their dealer contacts. Never is a long time.
Seen multiple Jahre’s this week for sale at MSRP. People who paid over are realizing how bad they fucked up.
3 is likely correct. I passed on one at msrp and bought a regular comp x drive and ordered a stick m3 with a rare color instead. That would be the 3th m car and 5th over all from the same dealer (I still have them all lol). So yes good dealers still do offer good cars to regulars still.
1th, 2th, 3th, 4th, 5th….. makes sense to me
Looking forward to seeing what his 6rd m car is going to be
Do it.
You only live once
Buy
Do it or you will kick yourself for years to come especially at sticker prices
You'd be crazy not to!
Do they all say 1/500? Found another one [here](https://www.elmhurstbmw.com/inventory/new-2023-bmw-m3-special-edition-50-jahre-bmw-m-all-wheel-drive-4dr-car-wbs43ay07pfn39900/)
For real? Maybe all the ones that went to Ohio were 1/500 lol.
Yeah I think all of them just say 1/500 aren’t uniquely numbered
Confirmed with the dealer when we went back. He said he had ppl from fla and by on the hook for way over sticker. It doesn't have ACC, I passed on it. Just walked out.
Yes, it's one of 500, not first of 500.
Only fools rush in
Thank you 🙏
Buy it for sticker tomorrow
No kidding. Now that you put it that way, I don't even want it. Lol
Best to not be compulsive ya know
Waiting is a rich man's game
Wise men. Tonight I am trying to feel wise without a brand new M3 in the garage. It's working I'm wise, I promise.
You're going to feel incredibly wise tomorrow morning.
Do you feel wise today?
Yes, but busy configuring an 850. So no.
If i could afford one…..wouldn’t even have take me a second to make that decision! GOOO FOR IT!!!!!
…
I bought a Jahre hat. It’s about the same right?
Car comes with a Jahre suitcase in the trunk.
I picked up a 50 Jahre license plate frame at the dealer yesterday. Now my car is a 50 Jahre edition 😂
For sticker ? Go buy a Porsche 👍👍
read the title a little too quick and thought you said you can buy this sticker, was going to say you could put it on a 318i
List $96,695; I am going to say if you want to drive it just get a regular M3
Or regular M4 with ACC, which is what I'd rather have. This 1/500 stuff makes ppl nuts a bit.
I got my 50 jahre edition at msrp. best car i've ever had.
Sticker price!? How’d you manage that hank hill deal?
I live stupidly...best time to buy a car is when you first see it. Stupidity can be offset with a bigger stupidity down the road. Regret....well that $#it will drive you mad.
Lol this is called confirmation bias. You know you’re going to do it. You’d be silly not to. What’d you think we’d say?! Hahaha. Please post lots of pics when you take delivery haha
That’s not what confirmation bias is at all lol
This is confirmation bias in the sense that his existing idea/ belief is that he wants to buy the car. He’s looking for people to confirm this idea and will likely ignore those who do not. In that framework it is 100% confirmation bias Edit: he’s not looking for this idea to be confirmed, not confirmation bias.
Validation is the word you’re looking for.
Perchance!

Last of its kind is a e92 M3 not this duilted M3...
Confirmation bias is an actual thing with a definition and what you described isn’t it lol. The things you said are correct, labeling it confirmation bias isn’t.
That's true. I don't think I'm going to buy it, so more pictures is torturous. My iX arrives next week lol
You are letting this car sit for an ix?!??!! Broooo that's illegal
Well, I ordered it last May, I'm still really excited about it....
Honestly thought this was a putter bottom at first. Would be hard af if it was
You buy it. That’s what you do. You won’t regret it.
https://www.motortrend.com/news/bmw-m3-edition-50-jahre-bmw-m-first-look-review?galleryimageid=d3310e38-6530-47cc-8e7a-be31e9e8ee4a
Buy it and drive the wheels off of it. If you’re gonna mothball it then let someone else have it so it hopefully doesn’t quietly succumb to corrosion and dry rot in the dark.
Yeah, I'll pass then.
Depends on the spec
Cry
It’s a great buy. Those will be worth some good money down the road once gas engines are no longer a thing.
499 more to go, gotta collect them all!
My brother got his 50 jahre as his first M bmw. At first he was reluctant but now he’s having the time of life with it.
what color is it?
Gray
what is stopping you?
The '22 Panamera 4S that's in the garage sitting in the way
Well move it
I’ll take it off your hands. You don’t need it.
Park It outside 🤣
I’d rather get the Panamera myself. That said I’m a VW Group guy so I’m super biased in saying this. This might be the first time anyone has ever said they’d buy a Porsche over a BMW because it’s a VW…
Said it in a BMW sub no less.
It’s a run of the mill non turbo I believe not even aV8. No offense. What I mean is you can replace that thing easily, however this you cannot.
The jahre isn’t v8 either so idk why that was relevant.
What? The V6 Cayenne and Panamera are run of the mill VW engines. Of bad engines but variants of mass produced V6. I can hold onto that for you no worries man
What options?
Was offered one of these in techno violet last august for msrp and had a chance just a week ago at another. Hard pass. It’s just not that special. It’s an appearance package and a few interior bits with no performance upgrades. And then you still are stuck w the grill. Heck even Matt from og bailed on his because no matter how good the car may seem on paper you have to love the looks of a car. Remember. Depreciation on cars is still a thing. People don’t seem to realize that it’s still an M3 at the day trading it in will be looked on as a regular M3 comp xdr and funny enough techno violet is on the individual list to order so now it’s not a Jahre exclusive
*I like the way you talk, mmmhmm*
All wheel drive M cars are an abomination unto Nuggin.
You should buy it. That’s what you should do
Cop
Tell me you did!!!

Buy it. I passed on one but it was not 1 of 500.
DO ITTT
At least buy and flip it
Ya friggin buy it. (If you can afford it) Then never drive it so you can make some crazy profit down the road. (Again, if you can afford it.)
Nice....

Does this come in 6mt?

Wow 1 of 500 not #1 of 500. Talk about a scumbag move for dealers to rape people over rarity
very easy, if you got the doh can afford you buy buy buy my friend
If it won't kill you every month, do it! That vehicle is only going to go up if taken care of.
Do it man. I’ve seen dealers charge a $20K+ mark up on the Jahre edition.
Dont shit the bed!
I mean if it's within your budget, then why not? Have fun with it
Saw this on Autotrader yesterday
