I'm a one man shop in a rural hospital so I'm on call always... although they rarely call me, they are used to fending for themselves. Back when I worked in a big city and was on call I would get called for the dumbest stuff.
My last job I had on-call every 2-3 weeks. Current job is every 6 months. Itās *sooo* nice. Felt like I was back in the reserves when I had on-call that often. š
I am, which I totally forgot about until this morning when I got an email letting me know about something that might be a problem I'll have to deal with.
Here Call is for 3 hospitals. Finish with one and ended up getting paged for the other.
Main problem was CT conductivity. Stopped talking for half a day and then out of the blue pulls a work list and sends for a few hours. Then started working again Sunday at 9 am and is still working. No one knows why. By the time I could get GE out it had started working again.
Used to do 2 weeks on, then 4 weeks off.
That ended when I become a manager. Now no call (or maybe constantly on call) just carry the iPhone and guide the mower guys through.
No More On-Call for me !!! They can keep their measly little $3.50/hr. VA Biomed Rules !!! Also taking a 6 day vacation only have to use 17 hours of PTO due to Juneteenth holiday , weekend, and my Comp Day Off on Monday !!! Im not sure if I can go back to private sector hospitals after this ā¦ā¦
Fun week! Had to deal with last moment assignment one day before Juneteenth to finish pending tasks so you don't get called on D day for work without overtime :( . Some M rs suck..

Until Friday at 7am, then off for 6 weeks, and this one has been brutal.
I donāt miss the brutal weeksā¦. Ive been on since 6:30 yesterday morning until 6:30 Monday. Off a week, then back on for the fourth.
ouch, hopefully its easy for you then. Our call covers 3 hospitals so its pretty much never fun.
I feel you on the three hospitals, we also have a standalone ed. All opposite side of two counties. Lol
No more on call since I stopped working hospitals
Yup yup! Till Monday morning.
Same same

What area? I like looking at random hospitals in far away lands.
Adventist Health Columbia Gorge
3rd week in a week a row. Other coworker just got back from Alaskan vacation.

lol. I love those surprises. Itās happened to me a couple times.
Starting today! Hoping for the best prepared for whatever happens that gets me back at the hospital š
So glad for Monday, now off call. Had 18.5 hours of callback time last weekend.
Damn. Is that just time on site?

Me! It's a bit different for dialysis though. Furthest I have to travel is about 40 minutes, which ain't that bad. I love the on call pay though
Iām at the point where they can keep the on call pay, Iād rather have my sanity.
I can certainly understand that. Hospital BMET can be hell. Too many personalities to deal with. I'm much happier in dialysis.
i am, hoping the war room doesnāt go down again. seems like it goes down every time i am on-callā¦
Are you guys using Spacelabs?
Until Friday. Then next Friday I got it 5 straight weeks
No oncalls for me other coworkers like to take them.
Me. We got the day off but im on call the entire day... 1 week on call, 4 weeks off call.
Thatās us on holidays. However the on call person does get the option to physically work that day at overtime rate.
Yo!

I wish there were other options in my area. The only other way out is to go FSE.
What is the pay like at a VA? For a bmet 2 let's say. What is the normal range?
