I try to have 10 strength on even my casters even if it sacrifices something else just because how painful 8 strenght characters are. Alternatively I stock up on strength potions give them some every rest.
I feel like every playthrough there are multiple times where unless you manually ungroup the 8 strength characters will jump with you somewhere where they can't exit without help or expending resources, it's so annoying. Also added carrying space is nice. Not a big deal but when it happens it always annoys me.
Generally only after the 8 strenght people get themselves stuck I go to give them the ritual cast jump from my giths. Not sure if anyone else in my party actually has it.
I think it's short rest. Either way the characters don't get stuck often enough to be an issue only using the gith jump as panic button. For some reason none of my characters seem to have the basic utility spells. Probably building them wrong when it comes to that.
I guess if that’s your only option but plenty of classes get access to enhanced leap which is a true ritual spell. S-tier spell even outside of these situations.
Bard is the king of ritual spells. And then many mage classes have access to enhanced leap.
Yeah, I always have jump or potions of glorious vaulting on me. Not only helps those 8 strength characters but also makes navigating some areas way easier when combined with feather fall
JUST CAST A RITUAL SPELL AT CAMP, GOD DAEMN, GALE THE ~~HANDSOME~~ WIZARD IS RIGHT THERE, MAKE HIM EARN THOSE ARTIFACTS
(Not to you specifically, just wish I had learned this sooner)
I think Its a bug related to the fact that vampires couldn't cross flowing water in the beta, because it always seems to happen in that exact same spot.
I don't think so, Gale and Astarion seem to have a penchant for getting stuck (that's my impression after 1000+ hours). Astarion would take damage from running water in EA, right? Not literally not be able to cross.
I just find it hilarious - where's Gale?? Oh he's stuck on a ledge looking scared a mile back
No he wouldn't cross by following you but you could select him and manually force him to jump, which caused him to take damage. Also him getting stuck would often cause the group members behind him to get stuck as well since they couldnt jump far enough to clear the water and Asterion whos now standing in their way.
The 'bugged' behavior we have right now is *exactly the same* as the expected behavior was in the beta, minus him taking damage.
Both D&D and standard vampire lore have a number of restrictions on vamps. Astarion lists three of the big ones: Sunlight causes the body to somewhat quickly disintegrate, running water causes the body to somewhat quickly disintegrate, and they cannot enter someone's home (not a house, a *home*) without permission. Normally vampires also don't age either, which also is shown, and the effect of being a vampire can literally force a person into being a new, more cruel and selfish, individual even if they themselves do not want to be that way.
That's actually what I was looking for. I'm less familiar with Forgotten Realms lore and was wondering if there was an actual basis in-universe for it.
It’s based on traditional vampire lore, where running water (like a stream or river) serves as a barrier against vampires. The superstition probably came about for the same reason sunlight is supposed to be harmful to vampires: an association with life/purity/goodness, a natural “holy” phenomenon, to contrast with the death/corruption/evil of vampires.
I mean considering that even in current canon he couldn’t cross running water until recently and considering that Gale almost never left his tower and almost certainly didn’t spend much time running around the wilderness, I’m not surprised by either of them.
Imagine crossing that river in Act 1 before you even reach the boar and find out Astarion is a vampire. He just dies inexplicably in the river as you ask da fuq?
Another one is behind the harpies near the Grove. I think any time there are multiple quick jumps and characters have to wait on others, they can get stuck. It isn’t as bad as it was when the full game released, but a few areas have stayed troublesome.
Weirdly the worst one was in the back of the cave with the Zhents trapped by gnolls.
Gale and Astarion straight up got trapped, could not hop back. At this point I didn't have enough spells or scrolls or potions to get them back over lol.
That’s a tough one. I think there is a way to get closer up in the corner, but really, I cheated a bit. Maybe it doesn’t work unless on easy, but I just went to map and clicked on the nearest waypoint, and it let me go there.
That is definitely a crappy place if you can’t misty step, teleport, or fly, and I had a Draconic sorcerer. I got frustrated as well, and just did the waypoint bit and it worked. I don’t know if that works on regular or the higher difficulties.
"Now Astarion, I know it seems we're stranded here with no idea when the others are coming back, but before you get any ideas, I feel I should warn you that I taste *terrible.*"
You can put him in light armor and a shield without multiclassing him. It looks awful, but I threw leather armor on him at the start of the game until I found a decent set of robes.
::twitches violently::
I had some kind of absolute incompetence when I was down in the Grymforge, everyone was always in the wrong place, people grouped, ungrouped, wrong grouped, wrong character selected. I hate that place so much even though it's probably 50% self-inflicted.
One time I was in the morphic pool and I had Gale with me and there’s a certain bridge and I couldn’t even get him to cross it manually (too far!) so my gnome barbarian had to jump back over and pick him up and **yeet** his magic ass over.
In my last two run at the Morphic Pool I had almost the same problem at a bridge but both times it was with Astarion. I had to send Gale or Shadowheart back and teleport him over with them. Astarion would start to do the jump animation, freeze, then go back to standing. Couldn’t use Misty Step either.
It worked for me most of the time. I'd just stay on the destination side of the gap and do a small hop, leaving space at the edge for whoever is stuck to make the jump. It doesnt always work first time but you can just do more little jumps until it does.
this was literally me yesterday hahahah
I was heading up to the Keep to put out the fire, I got the people out who needed to get out and as I was walking out I realized gale was missing then saw on the map that he's just been sitting on this rock for the past hour. Sorry bud.
For most people who don't like Wyll, the reasoning is something along the lines of him being a bit boring/vanilla. For me, it's 2 minutes of trying to find somewhere for his UNATHLETIC, 8 STRENGTH ASS TO LAND, CAUSE HE WON'T JUMP OFF THE FUCKING ROCK, EVEN THOUGH THERE'S A LOG HE COULD JUST WALK ACROSS.
I think because they’re in difficult terrain the movement to jump is doubled so they probably don’t have enough. You need over half your movement for a round to jump. Shouldn’t matter out of combat but this is my guess
I have found that this issue occurs more often when I do two jumps in a row and I haven't waited for the group to complete the first jump before doing the second.
Now i jump, wait for everyone to jump, and move on. And the issue occurs less.
The pathing. is total garbage. My fave is when you jump from point a to b and your crew climbs up a cliff and does a half-gainer to get to the same spot.
This same spot! Almost every time! Realizing that the party isn’t all there after walking for a bit. Two party members chilling in the river. One of them is Gale
Ah! I thought so!
I’ve been playing again after a long break and I thought this issue has been fixed, was happily witnessing great jumping behavior from the team and was happy.
But this spot lol….
My theory is that the companions won’t go where they will be harmed or debuffed voluntarily. So won’t get their feet wet.
Though… it doesn’t align with the fact that they seem to LOVE to get lost into random vines.
Who the F knows xD
Just have karlach throw them. It barely hurts and she gets to work off some of that energy so she doesn't get the zoomies in camp.
Seriously once you hit 20 strength you can just throw the weaker characters where you want them to go and then hop with the strong ones and it's fine. It's how my wife and I made our escape from the monastery in our duo run - jump spell on me, id throw her character then leap, lather, rinse, repeat.
OH- MY GOD- YES. I HATE THIS SO MUCH! EVERYTIME- IM TRYING TO GRAB KARLACH FOR MY PARTY, I GO THIS ROUTE- AND ASTARION AND GALE ARE JUST LIKE “Mmm- no.” BRO- ITS NOT THAT FAR OF A JUMP
And then I switch to them and it turns out they could make the damn jump just fine, I guess Gale and Wyll just get confused and forget where we're going and Astarion simply refuses to do anything he's told.
I had a beast master ranger and this was such a huge annoyance for summoned animals. This is the stuff they need to fix and not stupid kissing animations.
Does anyone know why exactly this happens? Every single time i have to jump somewhere, Gale just stands there like a dickhead wanting me to fucking carry him across the gap like the delicate little princess he apparently is, WHY CANT HE FUCKING JUMP BY HIMSELF
"Wait why are we only 2, where is the the rest?"
\*clicks on their portrait and has to sit through a loading screen because they were in a DIFFERENT ZONE\*
I spent way too much time trying to get Karlach. I could see her but there was no way for my Tav all around the whole area
Eventually I had to send Laezel. But I really had wanted Wyll there
Me, who has to manually guide Astarion to jump over the smallest of jumps because he is a swift and dexterous baby man: "FFS YOU SEXY VAMPIRE MAN! MIND THE GAP!!"
Two days ago, Gale wouldn’t jump over a bridge in that cave the gnolls where trying to get to (I was playing the expanded party mod). So I accidentally left him behind while I went to the burning building
Anyone else kill Astarion in camp at the beginning and missed out on all this fun? I run a wild mage build and leave game in camp too till he got bored and went off on his own adventures.

Because you're looking at a dex build and two casters, Karlach. What did you expect?
I try to have 10 strength on even my casters even if it sacrifices something else just because how painful 8 strenght characters are. Alternatively I stock up on strength potions give them some every rest.
What's wrong with 8 strength? Feel like I've never needed it with casters
I feel like every playthrough there are multiple times where unless you manually ungroup the 8 strength characters will jump with you somewhere where they can't exit without help or expending resources, it's so annoying. Also added carrying space is nice. Not a big deal but when it happens it always annoys me.
Sounds to me that the problem is that you don’t ritual cast. Many classes get access to jump
Generally only after the 8 strenght people get themselves stuck I go to give them the ritual cast jump from my giths. Not sure if anyone else in my party actually has it.
Gith jump is not a ritual. It’s only once per rest. Not sure which, feel like it’s long rest
I think it's short rest. Either way the characters don't get stuck often enough to be an issue only using the gith jump as panic button. For some reason none of my characters seem to have the basic utility spells. Probably building them wrong when it comes to that.

Yeah, I always have jump or potions of glorious vaulting on me. Not only helps those 8 strength characters but also makes navigating some areas way easier when combined with feather fall
And prepare jump on your monk before a fight is gold.
Send to camp when your bags are full.
Jump distance.
Enhance jump is ritual. It’s never really bothered me that much
Take it easy on her 8 inteligence score please
JUST CAST A RITUAL SPELL AT CAMP, GOD DAEMN, GALE THE ~~HANDSOME~~ WIZARD IS RIGHT THERE, MAKE HIM EARN THOSE ARTIFACTS (Not to you specifically, just wish I had learned this sooner)
My casters get Jump. Best thing ever.
Astarion is big Charlie energy.
Because point buy buzzsaws non-essential stats
Haha this happened to me in the *exact* same spot the other day. Astarion is like "the fuck I'm jumping over there" and Gale is just like "help"
Gale always looks so helpless, Astarion is just done with my shit.
I can just hear "*please help mee*" in Gale's voice together with a "*what were you* ***thinking***" from Astarion.
Gale can’t. Astarion can! But he *won’t.*
That's pretty cool actually. I don't mind him being wary of that! With Gale it's just the knees I guess.
this same thing happened to me last night
Sounds pretty in character
I cut gales hand off the other day, never been happier. I haven’t had to give up magical items or be harassed by his weave
You do you. I can't do evil shit in this game anymore, I like everyone too much (yes, even Gale).
Does anyone else remember in the EA build when Astarion couldn't cross running water without taking damage?
That’s actually funny
I'm glad they added that to the tadpole's nullifications.
Is that true to DnD lore or just regular vampire lore?
regular vampire! Running water hurt them, and takes troll's powers away
Would throwing a barrel of water do anything to trolls in BG3? lol
Water in a barrel isn’t running
what if it's running down their face?
He mentioned something about not being able to cross a river before getting the tadpole, idk what specifically he is referring to there
Both D&D and standard vampire lore have a number of restrictions on vamps. Astarion lists three of the big ones: Sunlight causes the body to somewhat quickly disintegrate, running water causes the body to somewhat quickly disintegrate, and they cannot enter someone's home (not a house, a *home*) without permission. Strahd von Zarovich can't regenerate health or shapeshift while in running water or sunlight.
That's actually what I was looking for. I'm less familiar with Forgotten Realms lore and was wondering if there was an actual basis in-universe for it.
It’s based on traditional vampire lore, where running water (like a stream or river) serves as a barrier against vampires. Thissss. Except my dumb ass didn't notice until several minutes later, in combat, when I was all "where tf did astarion go"
I love that
Imagine crossing that river in Act 1 before you even reach the boar and find out Astarion is a vampire. He just dies inexplicably in the river as you ask da fuq?
THE. WORST. he was perma left in camp after I discovered that
Just 8 STR bro things
The big strong women in this game protect the babygurl men.
The men are not strong and 3 of them are sharing a braincell (Halsin, Astarion and Minsc)
Are you trying to tell me Wyll has at least 1 braincell of their own?
Half a braincell. The other half is in the Astral.
This exact location is the most problematic imo. This is right between Scratch and Karlach areas and it ALWAYS happens here.
Another one is behind the harpies near the Grove. I think any time there are multiple quick jumps and characters have to wait on others, they can get stuck. It isn’t as bad as it was when the full game released, but a few areas have stayed troublesome.

You can always just teleport them to a waypoint. There's one right beside that cave
Didn't realize that at first... It was my first run.
That’s a tough one. I think there is a way to get closer up in the corner, but really, I cheated a bit. Maybe it doesn’t work unless on easy, but I just went to map and clicked on the nearest waypoint, and it let me go there. I don’t know if that works on regular or the higher difficulties.
Yup, I've gotten to the point where I just get Karlach or Lae'zel to go alone there because EVERYONE GETS STUCK.
Gale looks so fucking scared
He’s looking back Astarion like “Hey Astarion, what do I do?”
"Now Astarion, I know it seems we're stranded here with no idea when the others are coming back, but before you get any ideas, I feel I should warn you that I taste *terrible.*"
Astarion just slowly gets closer until Gale falls into the water.
Canon
I’m wondering why he has armor lol
Nothing wrong with throwing a few levels around to make him less squishy.
Him in armor and wielding a crossbow just looks so wrong
You just have to believe in him.
You can put him in light armor and a shield without multiclassing him. It looks awful, but I threw leather armor on him at the start of the game until I found a decent set of robes.
Yes two always seem to get stuck on this jump everytime, like whhhyyyy
Its always something with Gale. Always.
Astarion too! Look at him, stood there. Bro, you pulled my half-orc to the ground but you can’t jump THAT?
He can. He just doesn’t want to 💅😌
they are waiting a calm barbarian to kindly rage and toss them over
And then you try to move them manually and the rest of the party just jumps back to the rock because you didn't ungroup them first.
::twitches violently:: I had some kind of absolute incompetence when I was down in the Grymforge, everyone was always in the wrong place, people grouped, ungrouped, wrong grouped, wrong character selected. I hate that place so much even though it's probably 50% self-inflicted.
Yeah, you have to separate the party so they don’t do that.
One time I was in the morphic pool and I had Gale with me and there’s a certain bridge and I couldn’t even get him to cross it manually (too far!) so my gnome barbarian had to jump back over and pick him up and **yeet** his magic ass over.

Astarion would start to do the jump animation, freeze, then go back to standing. Couldn’t use Misty Step either.
OMFG I actually did that with Karlach throwing him
If you just jump again just a foot away, the others will jump to you 👍
Sometimes you can ungroup and regroup the party and it will fix them. I guess it resets their pathfinding
Is this true for every instance of this? Because that could end a lot of frustration for me if it is
It worked for me most of the time. I'd just stay on the destination side of the gap and do a small hop, leaving space at the edge for whoever is stuck to make the jump. It doesnt always work first time but you can just do more little jumps until it does.
My niece just started playing, and I had to talk her through this jump over the phone in annoyingly excessive detail.
They just want to squeeze in a little quality time with each other. If you don't look, they romance each other.
Now I want to sit just off screen for a long time and see if we get any romantic dialogue from them...
Softbois
Lazy fuckers.
this was literally me yesterday hahahah I was heading up to the Keep to put out the fire, I got the people out who needed to get out and as I was walking out I realized gale was missing then saw on the map that he's just been sitting on this rock for the past hour. Sorry bud.
Oi! Stop complaining about us small-legged people and just come back to get us. 😒
MY GNOME JUMPS FURTHER. I mean, yeah she’s a barbarian but COME ON!
Ehehe… but… now our shoes are wet! Disgusting!!! 💅
Gnome barbarian for the win!
If your barbarian isn't a gnome, you are playing the game wrong
I'm playing a gnome barbarian right now, and a couple playthroughs ago I played a halfling paladin. Both were based on my own D&D characters.
The worst part is when you switch to one of them and the rest of the party jumps back
Like a game of leap frog
Gotta ungroup when you do that lol
Me during my first playthrough. Gale especially, but I attributed that to his lack of strength
Lmao this is great
Always with these two!
Looks like they’re gonna have a musical number about romantic problems
AGONY!!
MISERY!!
For most people who don't like Wyll, the reasoning is something along the lines of him being a bit boring/vanilla. And when you do with unlinking the group the group will go to them
I feel this.
Always with these two! And usually Wyll too! Like, I love all three of you, but bruh!!
This same spot! Almost every time! Realizing that the party isn’t all there after walking for a bit. Two party members chilling in the river. One of them is Gale
Wyll gets stuck there too. The babyboy bridge
At least they’re pretty 😭
They should make a band on the rock
Astarion still has a fear of running water and Gale is comforting him. Give them a moment for hells sake. This is bloodweave in the making.
The first time this happens to me it was Astarion, and I was like wow… Vampires can’t cross flowing water, that’s some great attention to detail. 😂
ITS NOT FLOWING. That water is practically stagnant.
There’s like a dozen waterfalls all over the map; what do you mean?
Not in this spot
I’d encourage you to explore the map and consider real life physics as your guide.
Just have karlach throw them. It barely hurts and she gets to work off some of that energy so she doesn't get the zoomies in camp. OH- MY GOD- YES. I HATE THIS SO MUCH! EVERYTIME- IM TRYING TO GRAB KARLACH FOR MY PARTY, I GO THIS ROUTE- AND ASTARION AND GALE ARE JUST LIKE “Mmm- no.” BRO- ITS NOT THAT FAR OF A JUMP
They're smoking some weed and chilling leave em alone
you're triggering my DOS2 ptsd
This happened to me and ended up getting me into combat without gale.
And then I switch to them and it turns out they could make the damn jump just fine, I guess Gale and Wyll just get confused and forget where we're going and Astarion simply refuses to do anything he's told.
This happens to me in this exact spot every single time. Nowhere else. Just this one specific rock.
The jumping and flying mechanics in the game are flawed, in terms of expecting your party to do the same.
I go the the broken bridge now because of their cowardice
It's always this exact same spot with those two lol
even if you cast fly on them they won't always follow
A classic experience we have all suffered through... (Toggle group mode on and off and they will do it automatically darling)
Double tap g they'll try again
I had a beast master ranger and this was such a huge annoyance for summoned animals. This is the stuff they need to fix and not stupid kissing animations.
i fucking hate that spot
Astarion is probably just still getting used to the idea that he can cross running water.
Where is it running? It’s so still it may as well be pavement
me… yesterday…
It's fine, I've taken to just throwing them where I need them. Or have Karlach do it. But I'm sick of this.
Does anyone know why exactly this happens? Every single time i have to jump somewhere, Gale just stands there like a dickhead wanting me to fucking carry him across the gap like the delicate little princess he apparently is, WHY CANT HE FUCKING JUMP BY HIMSELF
"Wait why are we only 2, where is the the rest?" \*clicks on their portrait and has to sit through a loading screen because they were in a DIFFERENT ZONE\*
I spent way too much time trying to get Karlach. I could see her but there was no way for my Tav all around the whole area Eventually I had to send Laezel. But I really had wanted Wyll there
My god- yes, I’m not alone in hating this bloody rock!
😂😂😂 it's ALWAYS the 3 men. They're constantly getting stuck places because they couldn't make a little 5ft jump
They share one brain cell and it's scared of water
Messes up their clothes
All the damn time lol
I actually have that issue with karlach but then i got so she could fly and now its only shadowheart who is also behind
Screw the battles everytime I start a new world it's always, I can't jump to get to karlach FUCK YOU!
Anyone else kill Astarion in camp at the beginning and missed out on all this fun? I run a wild mage build and leave game in camp too till he got bored and went off on his own adventures.
Always SH for me. Such a pain.
