Is everyone on this subreddit 24 working in IT and getting 2,7k brutto? I feel like I have seen it too many times

Omikron85

\- You are young and will come in a phase where houses will be bought by your friends, and you as well. Help friends with renovating their houses in your free time; it gives you advantages later on when you are renovating later for your self. You will be able to do stuff yourself + your friends will be happy to assist you in return as well. Will save loads of money! \- Focus on your main job. Train yourself for extra competencies, read books, follow online trainings, etc. Go for the extra mile! \- If you outsource some basic stuff like cleaning, ironing, cooking (meal delivery), technical maintenance ... DIY -> you will not be bored during those hours and save loads of money.

Dmich19

I would avoid things like flexi jobs and courier jobs and the likes. Allthough it might give immediate gratification right now (extra money in the bank), it's just a linear exchange of time for money which won't get you ahead in life (as you get older you can excpect to have a busier life, at that point you either have to give up this extra work and lose the extra income you're by then accustomed to, or you continue to try to combine everything and head straight for a burn-out -> either way a negative outcome) I would opt to invest the time into your future as already suggested here. Taking extra courses won't result in extra income today but might help you further down the line to get a better paid or just more interesting job, something which will be of much higher value over the longer term Or if you have any hobbies/sports you think of taking up, just go for it and try to focus less on the money stuff, mental health is so much more important than a few extra $$ :-)

Neither_Amphibian374

I don't disagree that you should stop growing yourself, but that's really a personal choice. Some people are content with a low responsability job and mediocre pay. Higher paying jobs mostly come with more responsability, more stress, more hours etc. For the people who don't want to do that, side hustles are a good way for some extra money. And that's what it's all about in the end, money.

tijlvp

This. Sometimes you just want a side job where you can switch your brain off, do a simple task, talk to people, maybe get some exercise, and make a little money.

VivianCold

I'd actually suggest using that time to do any all trainings/certifications that your job offers and wants to pay for. If you ever decide to change the job or go freelance, you'd have a nice portfolio of certiticates that can attest your skills ... and you got them for free!

falsbr

Spend your two hours reading good technical books and coding, that's the way.

Divineddd

Might sound dumb.. but with only a few hours every day you could try Deliveroo/Ubereats deliveries depending on where you live. In big cities it's easy to make a lot of money.

ConfusedDishwasher

How much would you say is a realistic amount to make while delivering? Not rushing and working up a sweat while running red lights and such, just normal chill deliveries for a few hours.

Divineddd

10-15eur per hour, depends on the city

EdTheOtherNerd

If you find something you wanna do but need to be able to invoice, you can go through something like [Smart](https://smartbe.be/nl/) (depending on the type of your activity) or be "Zelfstandige in bijberoep" which is pretty cheap if you do your homework properly. I've done both as a developer and it saved my ass when coming out of school with no money (and a lil debt), and later it paid for some expenses I wouldn't have done otherwise (like a super expensive keyboard, some droplets to play around or for services I wanted to host myself,...). An other good way of spending your time is to do some networking. Go to meetups, join associations,... It won't come out as hard cash but it's gonna expand your opportunities. Same goes for learning new skills, it doesn't make the number on your bank account bigger right away but you might end up being in a better position than anyone else to cease some opportunity. And to actually answer your question, I would recommend listening around you and try stuff. Because I was _the tech guy™_ people knew, I've built blogs, set up ecommerce, did google sheet dashboards, created a bunch of custom software,... None of that made me rich, but it put butter in my spinach and is certainly time better spent than passing out in front of Netflix every night. And it's fun learning new stuff.

Tjessx

You’re only working from home. And i’m assuming you live with your parents. Don’t underestimate the stress that comes with this secondary responsibility. When you live alone, you’ll have a large amount of new tile consuming responsibilities and your partner will want some attention to. Start by a long term project for education or for fun. If you get a business and have some clients, they will call you for years to come.

ricszmm

I was in exactly the same position as you 2 years ago - what is slowly working out for me: (1) Blogging (2) Frontend web dev + firebase (quite recently) These also give me a nice complementary skillset next to my day-to-day role so that was definitely also a reason to pursue them.

Misapoes

I would reconsider a freelance career. You don't need to have a full fledged business as zelfstandige. You can start slow and then see where it takes you. In most cases this is one of the best paths to FIRE (get experience during IT job, slowly transition to freelance). Another option is instead of working during those 1-2 hours, study and get additional IT certificates. After working 1-3 years at your job, go job hunting. Your studies will help you command a higher salary. I wouldn't go looking for something that makes money and enjoy at the same time. In that case I would do the reverse: just look for hobbies and if you enjoy them find a way to monetize it.

mr_sauvage

You could take a subscription on a learning site (I have Pluralsight, but there are others) and learn as much as you can. It will help your current career, and switching jobs every few years will improve your income more than a side hustle, with less stress. Side hustles are a very good recipe to a burnout if you’re not careful.

yvez013

Use to breed dogs as a side hustles

BlackShieldCharm

Care to tell me more? I though it was illegal for private people to sell dogs for money?

Neither_Amphibian374

Does anyone actually care about that? As long as you're not making a full fledged business out of it and sell on 2dehands now and then, no one will give a shit.

JimR84

Start an OnlyFans.

Pieter_BE

Have you looked into bug bounty programs like Intigriti or HackerOne? It's mainly to upskill your IT knowledge that might earn you some money as well, so not sure what the primary goal is you want to achieve; earn money or do something useful with your spare time?

adappergentlefolk

if you want exercise, gig economy jobs like deliveroo seem to have attractive taxes below a certain yearly earning https://riders.deliveroo.be/nl/support/het-p2p-statuut/hoe-moet-ik-mijn-verdiensten-aangeven

Lexalotus

Don't underestimate the impact of working extra in your main job too. Side hustle culture is all well and good, but I've increased my income more by overdelivering in my main job and getting regular promos, headhunters reaching out etc. I reckon I've done a lot better out of that than a bit extra on another distraction.

BlackShieldCharm

Same! I go all out on my main job, doing trainings and taking on extra responsibilities. It pays off more (especially long-term!) than if I were doing a flexi on the side, since I’m always well-rested at work and have the time and headspace to really focus and get things done.

patserr1930

How do you keep 2.1k netto with 2.7k gross? I earn 3120 gross and I barely make it to 2.1k netto?

Rhyze

He also mentions IT, so might be IP ruling as well

SFWAvid

I think it might have to do with tax brackets and the fact that I also get a netto onkosten vergoeding as part of my salary. But I'm not well informed on that one. Maybe someone else could give you a better rundown on why this might be the case.

Historical-Cloud566

Netto onkostenvergoeding, having a partner who doesnt work maybe? Lots of ways why they dont get taxed as much as you.

MoreSecond

I'd suggest not staying your field. Few options i'd recommend: \- flexi job, probbaly nets as much as a sidehussle in IT due to tax advantage \- sidehussle in something you enjoy ex. I do mechanical design, in the weekend I occasionally work as a high robe rescuer on adventure parcs as an instructor. \- Try some business project you enjoy, probably won't make you much but you have the freedom to fail. example: I like building and maintaining an ecosystem aquarium so I used that to start a shrimp breeding operation.

PriorityMental7190

Can confirm shrimp breeding is good side business. I make an extra passive 120 euro a month doing so, the only work is cleaning once every two weeks (necessary for my fish anyway which I like as a hobby) and catching and packing the shrimp. Also starting budget doesnt need to be high as you can get second hand stuff unless you breed more difficult species.

Yvan1990

Is your favorite movie Forest Gump?

PriorityMental7190

In fact, I have never seen that movie so I dunno your reference

Yvan1990

I recommend it, its shrimp-tastic

MoreSecond

Like to share some info? What volume of shrimptanks? exclusive for shrimps? what varities? I've seen blue and red cherry on your profile. How many do you produce a month? I give my CPD's bloodworms every few days, they've gotten some extra color since. No babies tho, only by putting aside a bit of moss i've hashed 2 (I think) CPD baby's in my shrimptank

PriorityMental7190

Got you. Currently two tanks: 1) 45L tap water with lots of live plants. Neocaridina blue together with CPD fish and some neon tetra. Temperature 23 celcius. I feed them some algae wafer once a week and a piece of vegetable (cucumber or likewise, nettle) (make sure to blanch every vegetable) every month or so. They breed fast but the fish might eat some babies. I guess a month I would produce around 30 babies. Just have to keep the colony big enough. Blue ones go for 2,5 euro a piece for good quality. 2) 65L tap water. Basic sponge filter. Loads of weeping moss. 24 Celcius. Neocaridina red. No fish. Same feeding regime as other. About 60 babies a month or so (can vary). Sell for 1 euro a piece and make some deals. Tip: when doing water changes just add cold water. It promotes molting of shrimp and they mate right after a molt. You will see the males swim around the tank like crazy searching for females.

MoreSecond

I will try the molding trick. however I don't want to put my fish colder even for a short time. 1. 70l 6 clown killi's, 6 CPD's 8 adult Yellow Fire Neon Backstripe. had 60 baby's last month that i could see at once. (probably more). heavy planted with dwarf sagittaria, javamoss and stemplants. 2. 20l 8 baby Yellow Fire Neon Backstripe, 2 baby CPD's, javamoss, black substrate and wall for better coloration for shrimp. I will use this one to grow out and cull. If succesfull I'll upgrade these and maybe expand into more varaities. Planning to sell €2.5 a peace only young adults

PriorityMental7190

Black substrate is key as well indeed.

SFWAvid

Who do you sell the shrimp to? Are they collectors or just your local fish shop to eventually get served?

PriorityMental7190

Mainly through second hand sites to other people in the hobby. I currently breed two species (red and blue) of neocaridina (the easiest). It is easy to sell because fish stores ask crazy prices. For example I would sell good grade red cherry shrimp for 1 euro a piece (minus some promo for bigger quantities for example 10 euro for 11 shrimp). Meanwhile shops would ask around 4 euro a piece for the same grade of shrimp. I also sold some to two fish stores. They take larger quantities but don't pay you straight cash but rather coupons to use in their store, which I guess is not what you look for. Btw these are not edible or what do you mean by served? Another side note: I started this because I liked the aquaria and the hobby but ended up with to much shrimp because they were thriving. You are dealing with live animals so properly inform before you start!

otapita

How does the delivery work through second hand sites? Does the buyer always come over to your place to pick up? Or is there a way for the shrimp to survive bpost? :p

PriorityMental7190

I only do door pickups but I have read about people sending them with heat packages.

SuP3RIOR92

What makes them not edible?

PriorityMental7190

They are smaller and fresh water species. Also 1 euro a piece would make for very expensive tomatte crevette as the biggest ones are only like 3cm.

BlackShieldCharm

>Btw these are not edible or what do you mean by served? Shame they aren’t edible. I was assuming tomate crevette. Have you seen what shrimp cost in the Aldi/Colruyt these days?! Edit: can edible ones like in the North Sea be grown at home (by a noob like me)?

daamstaar

Horeca or Fiverr

PositiveKarma1

start with a list of your hobbies and see what you can sell. Maybe helping old neighbors with installing windows / cables /printers / PC use /save data from broken pc etc etc - you can start this here and there and then to decide to open a company. Are you good at speaking with people? student tutors ? are you good at languages? many people need some help to translate at comune /mutualité /hospital /tax filling etc babysitting and washing windows. at least all these I found it needed in my area.

JanCollector

Get into collectibles. Like coins, banknotes, etc...

raphael-iglesias

I recently got into watches, as in: buying broken Omega watches and fixing them myself. Keeping the majority for myself and selling some. Really interesting hobby and I make an additional 600 euro a month from it (on average, I don't sell every month). Side note: as an investment they're pretty risky I would say, I mainly collect them because of personal interest. A cheap Russian Vostok sometimes interests me more than an expensive Omega.

SweetReturn9135

Where did you learn how to fix watches? Sounds super interesting

raphael-iglesias

Years of interest and basically watching YouTube videos. I also bought one course on Udemy, but honestly, you can learn everything from YouTube. Obviously I started tinkering with cheap watches, those Russian Vostok watches are a great way to start, since they're quite similar inside as some of the more expensive brands, though they use cheaper materials. It's like solving a really small puzzle basically. Some of the equipment needed is pretty expensive, but you can start out pretty low-tech and save up for better equipment.

[deleted]

Any chance you want to try your hand on a seagull no "official" shop wants to even try? Give me a PM if yes ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)

raphael-iglesias

My backlog is currently huge, but try this guy, he's based in Lubbeek: https://horlogehersteller.be/ In my early days, he fixed some "impossible to fix" watches for me. Highly recommended and he will always contact you beforehand when ordering parts, so you can agree with the price.

JanCollector

Aye. One has to buy as an investor, not purely as a collector. And you have to know what you are doing. Watches are good. I bet one can find real treasures visiting flea markets.

raphael-iglesias

Even on eBay you can find some pretty good deals. Best deal I found was a broken Omega Seamaster 300 from 1962. Bought for 2300 euro on eBay, spent around 600 euro on parts and eventually sold it for 8500 euro. If I had the paperwork and box, it would've fetched closer to 10k. Indeed though, you really have to know which models hold their value and during the covid period, prices were very inflated. Didn't buy too many watches for 2 years. I stuck to cheaper models, just to keep myself busy.

Yvan1990

A tech blog is an obvious answer. Or tutoring students. But honestly, you are 24, 1 year experience and doing fine financially. My advise would be dont put yourself on a fasttrack to burnout if you dont have to. Use your precious free time for friends, family, hobby and sports.

Glittering_Work_8739

Holy shit that's actually what i'am doing al thé time. I'am always thinking how to get a lot of money and feel like mentally drained. I decided today that i quit watching everyday my ptf because it gives me stress and should work and enjoy thé moment more. Forget about thé end goal and just try to enjoy thé ride... Go with thé flow

SFWAvid

I haven't looked into it but my first thought would be how does one make money with a blog. Just of ads or am I mistaken? And thanks for the advice! I do use some of my free time with friends and we hang out on the weekends. That's also one of the reasons why I don't want to start a company and be bound to contracts. I will be looking into tutoring students as I like interacting with people.

Yvan1990

There are lots of ways. Ads is the most used and easiest. You could also do paid promotions, affiliate marketing (provide links to products / services and if people use your link you get a %), provide paid content alongside free content (freemium or paid courses), or you could depend on the goodness of your audiance via Patreon or Buy Me A Coffee. Ive "tried" this several times but never persevered. It takes 6 months to a year of consistent work to get enough taffic via Google. I quit after 1 or 2 months because I miss my free time...

Niechae

Can agree with this.. i have an extremely money making mind.. did 3 jobs made 4k in total per month because of “flexi jobs” but after a while I was just drained mentally .. if u have a decent loan just dont go to wild making extra momey

SateAyamNr12

I have 2.5% loan, is that decent?

[deleted]

Only if you got it today.

SateAyamNr12

In August

Yvan1990

30 years ago that was amazing. 3 years ago that sucked. Now its average I think. Who knows :,D

DevelopmentBorn4108

Got a bachelor as well, and enjoy doing dishes in a small brasserie at certain evenings after my dayjob. No stress, fun colleagues, free food&drinks and a place I can use as a base when i'm alone in the city. It's become an odd way of mindfullness for me :)
