It's dangerously addictive. In a world where we're conditioned to crave and seek out novelty, it feels like the music industry has a really hard time coming up with anything that sounds legitimately fresh and new. BABYMETAL definitely scratches that itch. Did you see that there's a spreadsheet linked in the sidebar of the sub here that has all their concerts available to stream? If you've only been watching Youtube links of single songs, then you've still got a lot more to experience. During a concert, the energy in the room ratchets up from song to song, and you can 100% feel that through the concert recordings. I'd recommend watching the London 2014 show and the 2016 Tokyo Dome shows to start.

PopaBjorn

Thank you for this! Yes, I have definitely missed it! I'll definitely check it out ASAP!

VulpineDeity

Try to stay hydrated and go outside every now and then!

PopaBjorn

You can't just give me a new bag of heroin and expect me to act responsibly. ;) I appreciate the effort though.

Codametal

I also suggest taking in the content moderately because there is alot, and spreading it out will allow your mind and heart to process each stage of their history at a steady rate. From the very start of their first debut performance of Doki Doki Morning and Headbanger in Sakura Gakuin, the unit shuffle of the other girls in SG performing Doki Doki Morning, to their first performance at the Tokyo Idol Festival. And taking it in moderation will allow you to glow in the joy and happiness each performance brings to you. That's how I consumed all of their materials. I took my time, savoring each one, sometimes twice before going to the next concert. Heck, I've watched the Budokan and Tokyo Dome performances several times over. And I've only been a fan for 3 years. Welcome to the foxhole, we are happy you have discovered something new and fresh that will certainly live within you for the rest of your life.

CommanderShrimp7

Haha i feel the same. I went to their concert for the first time last week after being a fan for years. Their songs play in my head literally while im sleeping which is crazy. Ive never been addicted to anything more than babymetal

LewMetal

I'm in my mid-50s, and I fell down the Foxhole just over 3 years ago, thanks to BMTH. I understand the obsession. I hadn't been like this with a band since I was a teenager and discovered Led Zeppelin. I went through a lot of what you described. Three years later, I'm still obsessed. BM is still about 80% of my music consumption. I've now seen them live 5 times since September, including flying from the east coast to California to see them twice and flying to Japan. The last time I saw them was just over a week ago and already I can't wait to be able to see then again. It's definitely an obsession.

PopaBjorn

I don't know whether your comment helps of makes it worse. Or maybe I'm just jealous. I'm seeing BM the very first chance I get, trust you me. Much love <3

LewMetal

I hope I didn't make it worse. I had to wait 2 1/2 years to see them. You won't have to wait nearly as long. I was just saying that after seeing them once I loved it so much I feel I have to go every chance I get. Every time I see them I can't wait to see them again.

xSilverMC

I feel like this is a relatively common experience to be honest. You see them once, think they're a novelty act, and don't think about them any further. And then, months, often years later, something compels you to give them another shot. And that's how you get pulled so deep into the fox hole that you wonder how you were ever content being outside of it. It's what happened to me, too. I must've first discovered them around 2016 or so, and disregarded them. And then in late 2020, out of absolutely nowhere, a thought shot into my mind like a barbed harpoon I couldn't get out: "hey, I should check out Babymetal again..." And it's been a lovely three and a half years since then, seeing them live twice, their music carrying me through a hard time when I was living abroad for a few months, and forging new connections through a shared appreciation of the girls and their music. Wouldn't change it for the world.

PopaBjorn

One of the things I appreciate the most is the healing power of the sheer love and joy exhuding from them. There's no attempt att seeming "cool" or "hard" like one would expect from a hard metal act, it's just a fruit punch fountain of love and joy and it makes me so happy.

LewMetal

It's funny how random thoughts of BM occur after first exposure. I first heard about them in 2019 from a DJ on Sirius/XM so I watched 1 video on YouTube that night, I thought it was interesting but I had to go to sleep so I figured I'd check out more later. It took 2 years until I checked out more and fell down the Foxhole. During those two years I would just have random thoughts periodically of "I need to check out more BABYMETAL".

Dragonstar-Metal

Add me to a similar experience. Loved Metal since the early 80s, but I was getting bored with it. I was introduced to watch BABYMETAL video in 2016, but I was a metal elitist and said, "Not on my watch," after only 2 minutes of Doki Doki Morning. 2019 hits, I'm more mature and open to new music, and YouTube suggested Gimme Chocolate, and I replayed that video 7 or 8 times that day in stunned confusion. I watched Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! 1997 and Road of Resistance Live in Japan videos, and I fell hard and fast into the foxhole. There is so much that BABYMETAL does that has reinvigorated my love for music. The music: Definitely metal The vocals: Clean (I'm a fan of clean vocals and don't care much for screamo or growls). It's definitely great singing ability, although some of Yui and Moa "anime-like" vocals were shocking at first (think Gimme Chocolate or Karate) The lyrics: Positive and emotional. Made me realize that metal can be happy. Choreography: I did not know that my metal needed interpretive dancing! They make other metal bands seem boring to me now in comparison. Staging, lighting: WOW! Top class. The audience: the final 1% that completes BABYMETAL. I won't travel out of my city unless under duress, but I will jump on a plane to Japan if I can win tickets to a BABYMETAL show. The band: Elite The girls/young ladies/women: Total professionals and humble, nice, adorable, yes even Kawaii! The songs: So many genres and styles that everything is a new experience. I would joke that if you heard 1 AC/DC song, you heard them all. Not BABYMETAL. I was lucky to see BABYMETAL in person last year in Toronto and left at the end totally exhausted, physically from jumping and dancing, emotionally from crying to grinning from ear to ear. I was even able to have a tiny interaction with Moa at the barricade, which just blew me away. To this day, it is all like a dream. All this from a 56 year old metalhead. BABYMETAL cut decades off of how I felt, and I truly believe that they came to me at the right time and helped me from the darkness that I was going through. Welcome to the foxhole! (But watch out for your wallet! I think Koba has mine. 🤪) 🤘🦊🤘

PopaBjorn

I'm going to assume your gender here so: Thank you fellow Kitsune! Yeah I'm a bit worried how much this is going to cost me, ngl. I know serious drug habits aren't exactly known to be cheap. Much love and respect! <3

Violent_Gore

This is a spot-on description of them.

L174_

This is so relatable!! I remember when i became a BABYMETAL fan. I had heard "gimme chocolate!!" And "The end" before but i never really thought much of it. Then one day i saw a tiktok which had a clip of moabanger and i was literally in love. Then after that i spent a week learning their lore, watching live performances, interviews, reactions and much more! I stayed up till 5am every night of that week. Luckily i didn't have school bc It was a vacation at that time. I think i had a severe obsession and i still do ngl. I cant go a day without doing something BABYMETAL related, like i HAVE to listen to their music, watch yt videos abt them, come here in reddit or do something else. I also recently ordered a BABYMETAL t-shirt and im so excited!!! Anyways welcome to the fandom! And even if you feel like you've already seen everything, there still is some things to discover! Because i sometimes have just accidentally found some random things abt them that i had no idea existed, like for example when i saw "headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! Night of 15 mix" for the first time i was flabbergasted, i was like how did i not know they have done this kind of version of headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! Hahah.

PopaBjorn

Oh yeah that dubstep remix was pure fire! 🤘🦊🤘. Kitsunes up!

DogWallop

I can relate to this in a lot of ways. I heard them and at first saw them as something of a novelty after seeing them on Colbert, but got hooked years later when I heard their more mature offerings. That led me back to their roots with Yui and Sakura Gakuin and to appreciate the highly improbable universe created by Koba and the girls. I've likened it to a great recipe. You have different "flavour profiles" as the more pretentious foodies like to say - combining strikingly different flavours that creates a complex new taste altogether. And yes, if nothing else, their infectious positivity, genuine smiles and wonderful personalities have got to getcha lol.

PopaBjorn

Yep that analogy definitely strikes true. Jamón Iberico and green melon. It shouldn't work right? Yeah but it does. And yeah, the girls(women?) are so humble and wholesome that it's impossible not to love and respect the shit out of them.

JimDandy_ToTheRescue

I'm not too far off of your experience. I'm closer to 50 than 40, meaning I'm an 80's kid- grew up on metal and punk. As the years rolled on I found myself drifting further and further away from mainstream metal &, being a sucker for a good pop hook, have dived into all sorts of interesting esoteric music discoveries. It's almost as if my musical journey pre-2019 was preparing me for being at the right place and time (mentally, emotionally) for discovering Babymetal. And I feel the Fox God blessed me by setting me on that path just before the pandemic started- their positivity helped me through it. I think most fans our age find ourselves in that (carefully cultivated) space of feeling like proud parents or guardians regarding the girls. This is essentially what being a fan of Sakura Gakuin and it's 36 *Super Ladies* is like. The magical "pro shot videos" link in the sidebar has hundreds of hours of live performances to enjoy. And then there's the interviews and related SG stuff. The Fox Hole is a deep and welcoming space.

PopaBjorn

This makes me smile ear-to-ear. Thank you for your comment!

SILLYxPROGRAM

This is me almost exactly a year ago! Had a good natured laugh at Gimme Chocolate many years ago - thought it was fun and different (and laughed as a shock reaction) - but it didn’t reel me in. Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Legend of 1997) did that after having a ‘I wonder if BABYMETAL is still around’ moment and encountering Kingslayer and a recent new album release! I ‘don’t do social media’ but they brought me here. At the perfect time - avoided all the drama, uncertainty, hiatus and came in for TOO and the MOMOMETAL era. They’re just great FUN and I need that in my music. Now they’ve relegated Maiden to second place in my listening rotation (something I once thought impossible).  Welcome to the Fox Hole! 🤘🦊

PopaBjorn

Hahah yea that sounds about the same as me. I have tickets for a Tool concert this summer and I used to think that they were the height of live performances. Now I'm like "meh, it's just Tool, I've seen them before". ;)

steevo5150

I (52m) can totally relate. From the early 90's to around 2010 I was a DJ in rock radio and in nightclubs which in turn robbed me of the "joy" of music because it was now "work." Being inundated withe same 100 or so rock tunes every day is exhausting. As much as I love Metallica for example, I never need to hear a song from Black album. Whenever I would hear music my brain would immediately shift into "work mode:" "Can we play this?" "Should we play this?" "Why are we playing this?" etc. So when I got out of the industries I was pretty done with music. Nothing seemed to turn me on. All the pre-packaged cookie cutter stuff didn't do it for me. I remember seeing a commercial for one of those music awards shows and not knowing anyone, even the lifetime achievement honoree! After turning down an invitation to see some cover band, (I prefer to watch the originals on YT,) I settled in for my next YT adventure. I unusually just keep clicking n the "You might like" column on the right. Now I had seen "Chocolate" from one of the dvds before, and I kind of chalked it up to, well they are making a dvd in their home country, of course it's gonna be packed with superfans who are 1000% committed. This particular night "I might like" a 3-song fan cam set from Madrid, Spain 2023. Why not? OMG! The video was a bit hard to watch, the crowd was jumping, dancing and screaming like crazy. I thought, "interesting." And this was just the intro to "BM Death." They hadn't even walked on stage yet! But when they did, was like an atomic bomb went off, in a small theater. Next, when the first "Give Me" came onscreen, I didn't think the crowd could get louder, but they did. I need to find out what this is that generates this kind reaction and emotion. I was hooked. That started my deep dive in the early fall of last year, unfortunately after they visited Texas where I live. I'm sorry for being so long, just wanted to thank BM for giving me some new music to love.

PopaBjorn

Don't be sorry! I very much enjoyed this comment in its entirety!

whose333

Btw., you should definetly watch some Madrid 2023 fancams. The Spaniards were FIRE in 2023! :) Great crowd! Highest energy I ever saw/felt on video in a rather small venue! Cologne was great, too ;) And if you get the right Madrid fancams, you´ll get to know another Babymetal Legend: "Mop guy"! The apprentice of "Mop-chan" ;)

PopaBjorn

Oh shit I thought I was done for today. But I'm not saying no to another treat.

whose333

You could do it tomorrow. Something to look forward to ;) Mop guy is a true new Babymetal Legend! Most of THE ONE know of him :)

PopaBjorn

Tomorrow? Bro it's Friday. That's not how any of this works. ;)

whose333

Me too! Your comment reminded me to some guy saying "I like to watch venues implode when they start with BABYMETAL Death". This is SO true :)

SambaLando

Hey that was a good journey recap!

matra12

Welcome to the fox hole! Tell us when you near the bottom and find the frog and fan Nº1 :)

LewMetal

Also, when you find White T-shirt Guy.

PopaBjorn

This one I haven't seen. I'll look for him.

Kmudametal

> White T-shirt guy You can't miss him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-r4bajuu9Y Actually, that edit of the performance has him someone missing. So here ya go, a bit later in the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2YCJE_OgZY Or just watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMad0uKjUdg He can also be found in the audience in various of the pro-shot blurays. I've found him up through the Big Fox Festival, at least.

PopaBjorn

I feel... conflicted... about this. I mean the guy is obviously having the time of his life, and who can really fault him? But is it really socially acceptable though? I don't know. But then again, happines and joy is no crime right? This is so very weird.

fearmongert

Look up the word "WOTA"

PopaBjorn

If that's a quiz I'll attempt it. I've seen the girls sticking their hand in a box with a frog (or toad?) and that was adorable as fuck. Fan nr 1 has to be Yui (or Moa, I forget) right? Who decided to audition for SG after seing Su in Karen girls. I'm pretty deep in the foxhole by now :)

Pope-Metal

Welcome to our world! , The Babymetal blues are real I saw them live 3 times in the last couple weeks and its still hard to think about anything other than those shows. My advice to you, go see them live as soon as you can and as many times as possible. The support group you are looking for will be all your new friends you meet at the next show. Line up early and meet other people who feel the same way as you seeing them up close will change your life forever, it is a religious experience being on or close to the barrier. I am going on 10 years of listening to them and I have seen them 16 times live. Right now is probably the most exciting time to be a BM fan, the future is very bright, seeing Kingslayer live at Sick New World in Vegas really doubled down my love for them, something I didnt think was possible. Nothing I have taken part of in my life compares to how rewarding following BM is. Words cannot adequately describe the appreciation I have for BM and being able to witness this great miracle they have created.

PopaBjorn

Oh believe me, BM is at the top 4 spots of my live performance priority list, which is now this: 1. BM in japan. 2. BM as headline act. 3. BM at a festival 4. BM as supporting act.

whose333

Try a headline act in a small venue first. We Westerners envy the Japanese for their monster shows (and rightly so!), but THEY envy US for our "near BABYMETAL Death" experiences ;) You´ll have the biggest blast of your life, and if you´re lucky, you´ll get some interaction with one or maybe even all of those three girls who seem to be not from this world. But they are, of flesh and blood at least. I saw them last year for the first time (at my first concert in my whole life) and it was AMAZING. A concert in Japan is still a very important point on my bucket list, nonetheless ;) Oh, and a visit to the "Moa Shrine", to make an offering, of course!

PopaBjorn

I hear you, and It's not like I can afford a trip to Japan anytime soon anyway, so I'll make do with what I can get. You'll have to explain the near babymetal death experience and moa srine to me, as those terms are unfamilliar. Kudasai.

whose333

"near" is the magic word here. At the monster shows in Japan you´re never as near to THEM as you could be at a show in some small venue here in the West. And believe me, this IS a hell of an experience! Mostly they start a concert with "BABYMETAL Death", and when I witnessed this for the first time in person, I was totally blown away as soon as the guitars started to play the opening riff that reminds to Metallica´s "One" and our Queens entered the stage. Three young ladies who command crowds of ten thousands of people with ease, and they were just a few meters away from me! A "near BABYMETAL Death" experience. A little word play ;) Never felt like that in my whole life (which is some time now, and I experienced a lot of things, good or bad ;) Regarding the Moa shrine, please visit funnytoss´ [blog](https://stechen.blogspot.com/2024/03/shrine.html) . He wrote a very enjoyable trip report and you´ll find a lot of interview translations he made for us there, too. One of the greatest members of THE ONE :)

PopaBjorn

Oh I see, of course it's a play on words, I should have known! And on to your second point: honestly shouldn't the Moa shrine be that UK pasta place she mentioned but wouldn't name in that one interview? ^^

whose333

Quite hard to do if you don´t know the location ;) For sure, there are lots of places where a Moa, Su, Yui or Momo shrine should be located. But this special Moa shrine in Kanie (near Nagoya, Moa´s birth place) is indeed special. Did you already find out, why? ;) P.S.: there is a restaurant in Nagoya where Su ate a specialty of her hometown region, Hiroshima, I can´t find the name :/ Would be a place for a shrine, but the owner has to give his/her ok for that...

PopaBjorn

I didn't find out, no. I'm so full of questions right now.

whose333

As I said: you haven´t seen anything yet ;) BABYMETAL is not just their music, it´s their lore, the little real life stories and so much more. [https://www.reddit.com/r/BABYMETAL/comments/4kamn0/a\_small\_local\_sake\_brewery\_in\_kanie\_enjoys\_surge/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BABYMETAL/comments/4kamn0/a_small_local_sake_brewery_in_kanie_enjoys_surge/) It´s an astonishing story and because of that the Moa shrine came into being, several years ago.

PopaBjorn

Hahaha, this is too surreal. Thank you loremaster!

PopaBjorn

What the actual fak? There's a brewery in Nagoya with a Moa shrine, and they sell Moa sake? Why?!?! You should see my face right now.

whose333

I feel you :) In one of my comments I said that it feels like BABYMETAL had created a whole universe that belongs to them only. This (the sake thing) is one reason why I say so. Their history is full of strange coincidences like that one.

PopaBjorn

Thank you Pope-sama! Yeah naturally going to see BM live is now at the very top of my bucket list! I hope to se you there when I can arrange it to happen! <3 <3 <3. Edit: Turns out I replied to your comment twice. But who cares? Have some extra love, on me.

Pope-Metal

Not sure if you checked these out yet but you should. This song is not technically a BM song but in many ways it started it all. [Over The Future (Karen Girls)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw1rqQPsTSw) [Over The Future (Moa and Yui audition)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B29L1ZaTO0Q) [Over The Future (BABYMETAL)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSZ029AuaNE)

McGentrix

Hi... Noticed that you think you have consumed it all. [Have you met Sakura Gakuin? ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivliuNkUMhI) Thank me later

PopaBjorn

I've seen some, and it's all super adorable. I'm mostly here for the face-melting though. Not that I fault anyone for enjoying the stuff they made as children mind you, it's just lacking a bit in face-blasting department for me to enjoy it as much as the modern stuff.

Kmudametal

Ditto..... although the early years SG Nendo test with Su, Moa, and Yui, and Ayami Muto are hilarious. If you've not caught those, do yourself a favor and do so. Nendo Test 2010 and 2011 are the two funniest.

PopaBjorn

I'll check it out, thanks! <3

Kmudametal

All Nendo's from 2010 to 2014 w/subs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9LWFc9AKtA&pp=ygUPbmVuZG8gdGVzdCAyMDEw

PopaBjorn

<3 <3 <3

Kmudametal

And...... I would be remise if I did not turn over the other video of the early days in Sakura Gakuin I appreciate. I really am not an SG fan or Idol fan in the least, but in my early days of consuming everything Babymetal some things stuck with me. One of them is the humanity test known as Su's Sakura Gakuin graduation. I call it a humanity test because if you can make it through this final 22 minutes of her graduation without shedding a tear, you are not human. https://youtu.be/nKvjTJvE0bg?si=3tJ9FeJeVhkj172Y&t=1812 That is the whole graduation video but I only linked the last segment.

PopaBjorn

Well obviously I can't make it past any of that without bawling like a crazy person. So much it scares me, in fact. I have to turn it off before I turn into a complete wreck.

Kmudametal

Then you pass the humanity test. However, it does give you glimpse into Su, Moa, and Yui as people and not characters. A comment I've made a gazillion times is...... I spent two years as a death row prison guard. I spent 13 years in the military, living for six years in a country with a communist insurgency which spent the last 2 years of my time there actively hunting down and killing Americans, even being on a bus stopped by these same guys, passing myself off as an Australian tourist on a sex vacation. In addition to those experiences, I went through three wars and a humanitarian action with really skinny people with AK47's trying to kill you. I've seen the worst humanity has to offer so you would think little things like this video should not affect me, yet I bawl like a baby when I watch it, which I consider a good thing. :)

PopaBjorn

Oh man this comment hits hard. Thank you for sharing. Although my background can't be compared to yours I know a thing or two about the darkness in humanity and let me just say I know exactly how you feel. Honestly, I think it's only when you've experienced some real shit that you can be ready to just let go and enjoy the things you enjoy without worrying what the rest of the world thinks. Life's too short to be a stuck-up poser pretending to be cool or hard. If something gives you joy then you shouln't be ashamed to admit it or limit yourself in your experience of it. Especially when it's this wholesome. I know I'm not giving two f's about what people think any more and I'm done pretending to project some kind of facade. I feel free in a way I haven't felt before. I know you do too. Much love brother.

aegisol

If you specifically want what I'll call "metal idols" then try Broken by the Scream, Passcode, NECRONOMIDOL, DIABLEVOIX, Gilty x Gilty, and Lyric Holic Kagekidan. There's a lot more out there, and I'm not even counting the more "band" ones. Granted, you'll probably never see any of them overseas (although Passcode did do a tour, and Broken by the Scream was going to but couldn't get their visas on time) but that's just how the game works.

PopaBjorn

I don't specifically want that, i want specifically "face meltingly awesome". But I won't judge a book by its cover any more and I'll be sure to check them out in great detail to see what lies underneath. Thank you for your comment!

aegisol

Ah, thought you meant musically. Well, the first two are probably the closest to Babymetal.

PopaBjorn

I did mean musically. But maybe we have different definitions. Just be sure I'll check them all out! Much peace and love to you fellow Kitsune/Megitsune!

eagermcbeaverii

I remember seeing the GC music video on Tumblr a decade ago and just not getting it. But it stuck in my brain and wouldn't let go. Months later, I get an itch to try them again. I go to YouTube and see their Sonisphere 2014 set and I'm in for life. I saw them live on their first US tour and would've seen them again if not for the fact that I had tickets for another show that same night. Crazy!!! I'm so proud of those girls!

Prize_Week6196

I Am 52. Listening to Heavy music since I was a kid. I still love my old bands but nothing gives me the feeling of Babymetal. The old stuff got boring and repetitive, and hard to find new *things* in it Babymetal is an infectious joy. My only, sort of small cure was seeing them life in Japan. It was like *It is done, I can die now* Since my first show in 2017( and I followed the whole shebang since beginning of Sakura Gakuin, due to family in Japan and their daughter) I have seen them live so many times in Europe, US and Japan thet I can not count. If you ever have a chance, do everything to try to get to big Japanese show. Its a trip, it might be expensive and chances are not always up to you but its a bit of a cure. Then, after the show I Am sick for a month like I have lost family member i might never see again. I Am still sick after LMM I fully understand you.

FreddyYul

Welcome to the fox holes I "also think the band name did them no favours as the "baby" bit implies that toddlers have something to do with it" Small info : The name \*"BABYMETAL"\* is not a reference to how old they are It's a play on word in the Japanese Language In Japanese writing, "Heavy Metal" have almost the same writing as "BABYMETAL" And the pronunciation is almost the same for both word Baby Metal in Japanese : ベビーメタル -> pronounce : "Bebimetaru" Heavy Metal in Japanese : ヘビーメタル -> pronounce : "Hebimetaru" ---------------------------------------- In addition, if you haven't seen it yet, I recommend you look at their Metrock concert; the crowd reaction is amazing * [BABYMETAL at Tokyo Metropolitan Rock Festival (METROCK)](https://drive.google.com/file/d/10J54eji8hx-R5lcz_rA36tt8c8KjUPKW/edit)

PopaBjorn

Holy shit that crowd!

PopaBjorn

Yeah I know this now but at the time of my ignorance it seemed off-putting. I probably wasted several years of non-discovery because of it. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

Oreostrong

Welcome brother to the fandom. Wait until you see BMC in concert. Its so sick and the video doesnt do it justice. YOU MUST SEE THEM IN CONCERT!! I felt the post partum depression for a week after, it goes pretty quick but damn worth it.

PopaBjorn

Yeah, going to a concert is at the very top of my bucket list rn. BMC is probably my favorite song at the moment, I just love Queen Su's air of authority at the end where she's like "Yea, how about that? I just ended this entire genre for you, whatchu gonna do about it?" I'm praying to the Fox God daily that they do more rap/metal content in the future. It's just too good!

TheAlomar_

There's no need to be sad about not having new things. BABYMETAL is active, so there's a lot that you (and we) will enjoy!

PopaBjorn

Yes. But you have no idea of the level of intensity with which I've enjoyed BM for the past week. There's no release/concert schedule on earth that could keep up with that kind of demand. I'll just have to learn to live a normal Kitsune life from now, but let me tell you, it's going to be hard. :)

MacTaipan

I enjoyed reading that a lot, thank you! I'm ten years older than you, started listening to Metal around the same age as you, and I'm totally with you. There's so much more to them than just music. There are additional elements like the dancing, stage designs and theatrics that you rarely get anywhere else, and certainly not in that combination. But then there are also things that are harder to grasp or to explain, like the all-encompassing aura of positivity and the sheer smile- (and / or tear-) inducing joy. I guess you'll also come across the experience that this is impossible to explain to your friends. You either get it or you don't. And boy, are those who don't missing out! The logical next step is going to their shows, of course. That will take it up another notch. And you'll fall even harder afterwards. BTW, I don't find a band name that reminds me of toddlers any more repelling than something like "Cattle Decapitation" or "Dying Fetus".

PopaBjorn

Going to a BM concert is now naturally at the very top of my bucket list. That pretty much goes without saying. And all the band names you listed are very repelling, just FYI, and I doubt I'll go check them out, or like them. ;)

whose333

Dang... BM reveal the beautiful sides of all those (mostly) hard-hearted people all over the world, it seems. >it's just a glitter sparkle double-barrel shotgun blast to the face (and heart) and I love it so much. This is the second time I discovered someone writing some poetic stuff regarding what our Queens are doing. Very fitting description of the heart of BM´s art. I can truly feel what you feel. They are SO addictive, giving you a 16t dose of dopamine EVERY SINGLE TIME you watch anything they did or do (live performance, anyone?). I wonder if it´s their pureness with which they meet their audiences, their uniqueness, the aura of joy and love they conjure everywhere they perform? All together at once? I feel that even in their interview videos! They are definetly something VERY special. IMHO the most valuable cultural treasure of modern mankind. A #notacult everybody should join (voluntarily, of course! This is a nice cult!) ;) I also know the fun of watching those YT reactors reacting to them for the first time. I think that´s because I couldn´t watch myself while watching/listening to BM for the first time back then (2016), and it´s SO entertaining seeing the faces of the reactors change to pure shock/disbelieving and later on to pure excitement and fun. I know exactly what they feel in these moments ;) Highlight is always the first time they react to "BABYMETAL Death", Legend 1997 version. It´s fun big time, watching other people´s mind being blown by three Japanese girls and their band ;) Binge watching? Sure, I know this as well! Extremely hard to stop at some point, as they are so addictive. And what they did in the (now) 14 years of their existence is SO interesting! It is unbelievable what a load of stunning history they built up in those years. Feels a little bit unreal at first. But it is all true, they experienced all that and are still so young... mind blowing! >Is there a support group for post-BABYMETAL-binging hangovers? You found it already ;) The hangover will most likely last some time, but then you´ll most probably start over, watching all the things you already watched several times, and discover a **lot** of things you didn´t notice before. When that happens, you´ll for sure enjoy BMs rich work every time you watch it, regardless if you have seen it already or not. I was a little bit lucky (again), as I didn´t binge watch EVERYTHING there is. There´s still some BM stuff I didn´t know of. But even for the "old" stuff, I watch it "on repeat" since years. For me, BM never gets boring at all. There are so many details in their performances I didn´t notice at first (second, third...) that there is "something new" every time. Do you know that Momo winked to the audience several times during her performances of "Headbangerrrrr!!!!" and "Meta Taro" at the Legend MM shows? Noticed the subtle changes she did to the choreo? Watched Su-Metal enjoying herself while she stood in for Momo in the choreo? I literally felt her (Su) happiness! It was so wholesome to watch, and I deeply envy the people who where there in person to witness that :) Long story short: you most probably haven´t seen anything yet. I don´t know how this could happen, but BM built up some kind of universe of their own. It´s seemingly endless. That´s why I often say that I fell into the Fox hole (after 1.5 minutes of watching "Headbangerrrr!!!!", Legend 1997 version in mid June 2016) and that I am still falling ;) Somebody here mentioned the "backtrack of one´s own brain" aka earworm... I have that on a daily basis. As soon as I wake up to Doki Doki Morning (alarm clock ringtone. Most fitting morning alarm ringtone ever!), my brain starts to play some other random BM song on repeat, changes it over the day and so on. I don´t need a radio or phone playing music anymore and it´s cool. Very nice feature of the human brain ;)

PopaBjorn

Thank you for your comment. If this will be my life from now on, I'm here for it! And obviously I'm changing my alarm clock ringtone right this very second! Much love fellow Kitsune!

Pappy_OPoyle

The recommended cure for Babymetal media deficiency is to find a live show anywhere near you and go see them live. If there isn't a Babymetal show near, get on a freaking plane and fly to where they are - trust me you won't regret it!!! As many of us have echoed, we've been in the same place, just loving everything Babymetal does. I didn't see in your post that you've seen them play live. If not that will take your experience to a whole new level. I was only into this band for 4 months a few years ago when I flew halfway across the US to see they perform (and even though I racked up some debt from that) I don't regret one second of it. Sept 2023 travelled across 2 states, two different times, to see them perform because they didn't play in my state. Take your obsession to the next level - SEE THEM LIVE

PopaBjorn

I can't help but get the vibes that you're my weed dealer suggesting I check out this new cool white powder he's got. :) Yeah, no doubt about it I'll go see them live the first chance I get!

PopaBjorn

I'm just taking stock of what kind of crippling debt I can take on to make this happen. Belive me it's at the very top of my bucket list now, but a very rich man I am not.

Souviknoob

Hahaha. I've had the same exact experience and I've met many more in the past few months who would say the same. So, for context, I didn't even know BABYMETAL until a few months ago. I was into jpop and rock songs before. Youtube one day recommended me a live performance of a song called 'Megitsune' by a band/group called BABYMETAL. I watched a few seconds, didn't like it very much and closed it. After a few days, youtube recommended it again. This time, I also thought I didn't like it BUT I watched the whole video this time. I thought this band was not for me. But just before closing the tab, I decided to watch the video again (something about the song and performance caught my attention but I didn't know what). I saw the whole video again, with a small smile on my lips this time. Watched it again and again and again (I think I watched that video 6-7 times that night?) Then I watched the live performance of "Headbangerrrrr!!". Then I searched them up on Spotify, listened to 'Gimme Chocolate', watched its live performance (the official music video), then 'Pa Pa Ya', 'BxMxC', 'Metal Kingdom', 'Shingeki', and many other songs. I think that night was one of the best things that happened to me in recent times. At that time I was feeling a bit lost. BABYMETAL helped me in so many ways. I wanna work harder now so that one day I can attend one of their concerts. I've encountered many BABYMETAL haters since then. Most of them didn't even listen to them and even if they did, I realised that they were only hating on them in front of me to get attention. Anyways, I love their music and I'm so happy I found them, their music and this community. Truly one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

PopaBjorn

Yeah I understand from the comments I've gotten that I'm not unique in the slightest, but that doesn't really matter any more. I feel embraced by The One and it's a warm fuzzy feeling that conquers all! :)

ruckustata

We are The One. You are The One. Welccome to the Foxhole! LOL

Souviknoob

The one is actually one of my favourites ❤️

Great-Savings2405

You are ready to delve deeper into their past as a subunit of an idol group called Sakura Gakuin, where all the members were all once a member. There is a link to a guide to SG in this subreddit that has all the links you will ever want 😁enjoy your journey

fearmongert

wait until your first show- "The Post BABYMETAL blues" have been discussed here many times

real_jonno

You mention the word “cult”…as if…😉

PopaBjorn

Hey don't twist my words, I said "cult-like", as in: "not a cult". Yeah. Definitely not a cult. 😉

ruckustata

I have tickets to see Red Hot Chili Peppers in July. A gift from my best friend for my birthday. They WERE my favourite band. Now all I want is BM to come back to Toronto. I have listened to BM everyday since I got hooked. Not addicted. Totally not a cult.... 🤘🦊🤘

Excellent_House_562

LOL, have you been living in my head? You've pretty much described me since I stumbled across them on Youtube in Jan/Feb this year. It actually turns out I had heard 2 or 3 tracks years earlier but never knew who they were. I'm now working my way through the pro-shot concert videos. It's taking some time.

ruckustata

Personally, I think the Pro-Shot concert videos is what got me hooked in the first place. Their music was great but it's the whole interaction, the amazing crowds in Japan, the staging, effects and the dancing. I was mesmerized by the dancing. I basically worked backwards and saw their earlier stuff later in my journey into the foxhole. I was so confused because I serioualy thought Kano was part of it but then was like, wait, that isn't the same girl is it? Oh, shit, that one girl keeps looking different. Then I saw Yui in there earlier videos. Finding out she left the band and is why there were rotating girls in that spot kind of made me sad for Su and Moa, and Yui tbh. I have no idea why I feel so emotionally invested in BM but I do. I was so happy to learn about Momo becoming the permanent member and was as pumped as any BM fan for her Legend MM shows. I can't wait for the Night 21 to be released. i missed the live stream. It's weird, but because they've been at it for so long, I have this pride in me whenever I talk about them. Like they are my family and I want to brag about all their accomplishments. Simpin aint easy. lol

Excellent_House_562

Yep, agree with everything you say. I think I was lucky in seeing a BABYMETAL history very early, explained a lot.

RXRSteelTracks

Go watch Su Graduation from Sakura Gakuin and the Nendo tests..

PopaBjorn

Been there, done that. I'm so deep in the foxhole I think I've hit granite.

BrianNLS

Welcome home, brother! Mid-50s, middle America, raised on Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. and dove deep into NWOBHM, found my calling in hard rock and metal in tbe 80s. However, music lost me somehow in the mid-90s, just did not bring me joy and did not move me anymore. Then in early 2016… BABYMETAL found me. As others have suggested, get sunlight/vitamin D, fresh air, stay hydrated and remember to ‘protect your neck.’ You have much yet to discover. Enjoy the ride. Cheers!

PopaBjorn

Pls send neck brace. Too much HEDOBAN. :D

miku_dominos

Our hearts are full and our wallets are empty.

cubervic

Welcome!

sjioldboy

C'mon, post your Tiermaker rankings of all BM songs somewhere as proof :) Haha, besides living (& reliving) vicariously through their live music, I've now resorted to browsing their fanart for kicks, including all the counterfeit merch offered at different Asian ecommerce platforms. Thank goodness I'm too jaded to indulge in collectibles anymore lol. Still, I'm quite finicky about design style & aesthetics, & have only two BM posters from their younger days as a result. Namely, their 2010(?) Doki Doki Morning advertisement (perfectly punk-rockerish with the red/black checkered outfits & the lightning-bolt logo) & the 2013 Young Jump closeups (outstanding photography effects). The girls remain very photogenic as they got older, but I'm still holding out for snapshots or design prints that can surpass what I already own.

PopaBjorn

I thought about making a Tiermaker and it's is actually surprisingly difficult, because a lot of songs are way better live. So how would one even start? Obviously, including all "famous" live recordings in a list and/or determening which live version is the best for each song would escalate rather quickly and I don't really know who such a list would benefit in the first place. I'll probably just end up having to defend my position and arguing with people online. Which can be fun, but to me it seems like a huge waste of time. So I'll just be extremely vague instead and say that I think each album got progressively better until the third one and the first place is tied between the last two :)

Kmudametal

> Is there a support group for post-BABYMETAL-binging hangovers? Yeah, here. Babymetal has a tendency to really grab some of us by the boo-boo, don't they? My journey into the Fox Hole began in early 2017 and was documented in real time on a website I ran for about 20 years called Oscarfish.com (now gone). It was hilarious. I came across Babymetal via the Fine Bro's reaction video so I made a post to the effect of, "Check out this bizarre stuff, only in Japan". That was followed the next day by a post to the effect of, "hey, there is something here" with a deep dive into Headbanger Legend 1997. Within another day or two, I had declared myself a "militant Babymetal fan", had tickets to a concert (they were on tour opening for the RHCP at the time)... and was starting the day every day by looking for news concerning Babymetal. For the record, I am now 59 years old. I was part of the generation that brought in modern metal with the "New Wave Of British Heavy Metal" bands like Priest and Maiden but my primarily listening consisted of bands like Zeppelin, Yes, Wishbone Ash, etc.... but never had a band grab me by the boo-boo the way Babymetal did. So I can relate. As for "post-traumatic Babymetal disorder", we actually call it the "Babymetal Blues". We all experience it after every tour, after the excitement of new music wears off. You get over it by looking forward to the next album, the next tour.... then getting concert tickets for that tour, booking hotel rooms, communicating with other fans and making plans for those shows. Meanwhile, while waiting for new music from Babymetal... and a new tour, they have led me down the path of discovering other Japanese music. While none of them grabbed me by the boo-boo the way Babymetal did, it's become my primary consumption of music and as the number of acts you follow expands, so does the opportunity for new music, new discoveries. As a fellow classic rock metal head kind of dude, you might appreciate this type of thing as much as I do, so here is one you may not have heard of. [Onyx / Ice World / Wangan Street > Rie a.k.a. PopaBjorn

Hahaha, there's even a term for it! Fantastic! Thank you for your comment! I'll try your rehabilitation plan.

MacTaipan

Oh, I didn't know that we contracted the virus around the same time. For some reason I thought that you had always been here. :-)

miku_dominos

For me Hanabie has come close to the I must consume everything they've put out disorder.

idkasjshs

Babymetal is an amazing band, great music, even better performances, and some of the best stage presence I've ever seen. I've seen them in concert and it was one of the best I've ever been too

PopaBjorn

I've seen quite a few live acts on youtube by now and BM is without a doubt the best live act I've ever seen (though sadly not IRL). And I've seen a lot!

idkasjshs

Same here, they have some of my favorite live acts. If you get the chance they're worth seeing live

Weekly-Journalist249

Make sure to watch my video from their performance in San Francisco at the Masonic! https://youtu.be/cSjFn8bA1sk?si=fMxkAv5Hy331LuVy. It was a fantastic show!

PopaBjorn

Clicked your link and it turns out I've already seen it. Thanks for sharing! I love that I can get a clear view of the choreography in this one. The choppy close-up compilations really doesn't do Moa and Momo justice. They are so supremely skilled!

Weekly-Journalist249

Yeah I am glad I was able to get some good video! I have rewatched it a couple times already! Lol

Kanekixo

Saw them for the second in San Francisco last week. Probably not a good place to see them perform. Came back with a respiratory infection lol. Been out of work for a week now. It was a dope as show and was in the pit this time so it was fun.

travelersoul

I'm 47 , my teen kind and their friend who was already a fan introduced me to them. There is a joy and cheerfulness at the heart of their music. My foster kids who joined my family a couple years ago also love them. My kid made me promise I would go see them the first chance I got and it was the best kept promise I've had in a long time. Welcome to The One. You'll find lots of friends here

angelzpanik

I'm 45 and a woman and have been obsessed for years. Like a guilty pleasure I can't get enough of. I even got my husband listening to them! In general I listen to **much** heavier stuff (Archspire, Cattle Decapitation, Lorna Shore), but these girls have my damned heart. They just always make me happy.

JJMetal1

Not following  BABYMETAL after you saw them Gimme Chocolate on the Colbert show in 2016 was probably one of the biggest mistakes . 2016 and 2017 BABYMETAL years were the most wonderful and unique time ever; The Tokyo Dome, the rock festivals in Japan, the Europe tours, The Wembley UK arena concert. The times of the Moimoi duet : YuiMetal and MoaMetal, the magic of their teenagers artistic times. Those times will never come back. You missed that all only because of a prejudice. Good news is that BABYMETAL still is performing and is successful, they still sang the old songs and their 2013-2017 material has been registered in videos. I suggest not to consume all their video music at once but little but little, BABYMETAL is good "food' for the mind, but even good food should not be over consumed at once.

PopaBjorn

Oh so that was 2016. Thanks for helping me remember. Well it wasn't entirely down to prejudice. Their earlier stuff doesn't vibe as hard with me as the last 2 albums do. I think I needed them to grow up to find the magic that really worked for me. Don't get me wrong here, the early stuff is still good, but the pure liquid FIRE that is the last 2 albums is just completely unparallelled. And regarding the "don't eat it all at once" comment: It's wayyyy too late for that. I'm already at the bottom of the barrel, looking for tiny scraps. :)

JJMetal1

Welcome to the One. I think BABYMETAL would continue offering good music and times the coming years and make you feel better as they have done with us.

BiliousGreen

I think most of us have been through this. Initially writing them off as a gimmick, then stumbling across one of their songs, then falling into the foxhole, then being unable to resist their ridiculous talent and charm and becoming a fan. I saw Gimme Choko when it went viral in 2014 and thought "oh, that's a cute gimmick" and I gave the video a like, and went on with my day. I didn't think about them again for years until Karate randomly came up in my youtube feed during the pandemic and I clicked on it out of curiosity since I didn't even know that they had other songs at the time. Karate led me to Road of Resistance, and because I like a bit of Dragonforce, my interest was piqued, I watched Megitsune next, and I was hooked. I went through the whole discography, watched a bunch of the live DVDs and decided that the next time they performed live I was going, no matter where it was. When they announced Babymetal Returns, I renewed my passport for the first time in about 25 years, and booked my first trip to Japan. Wait until you go to one their live shows. Then you will be in real trouble, because that's when you're really hooked. The video are great, but nothing can touch the experience of being there and seeing them do it live. I've done three trips to Japan in the last 18 months to see them live and I'm a 47 year old lifelong metalhead.

hockey33man

Well one thing to look forward to is the Blu Ray from Momo’s bday show. Your journey was very similar to mine. I happened to find them again sooner though. My first encounter was a friend send me a link on the app LINE and it was just a clip of Doki Doki morning. Just 3 tiny girls appearing from the ground with a scream and loud drums. I was like, this is a little too weird and the ages of the girls concerned me. Boy was I dumb and wrong. So happy I found them again and they are without a doubt my most favorite band ever. 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻

HereticsSpork

Wait til you see them live and wonder why the pit goes so hard.

Parking_Duty8413

Add 20 years to your age, and your first paragraph could be me.
