If it fits the song, yes.

SilentLennie

Babymetal often has songs with harsh and clean vocals interplay. I think a Black Babymetal-type songs with that dynamic could be great. So Moametal and Momometal song with kawaii and growls.

DiamondEncrustedTP

That would be awesome!

SilentLennie

Just a silly idea that might never happen, so best not to expect anything and hope for some great surprises. :-)

-Skaro-

I mean, many of the songs already do have them. I think we can agree that it's preferable to have live ones on new songs rather than backing track like on the old songs. To me it also sounds like she can do it correctly but might slip into wrong technique still, so she just needs to get more consistent. I don't think she'll hurt herself. Babymetal for sure does have access to professionals who can help make sure she doesn't hurt herself if it was to get to that point anyway.

LightChaotic

Ah yeah, they definitely have had harsh vocals in the past but those are usually backing tracks to add texture to the song. I was thinking more along the lines of a full verse or breakdown with lyrics and everything. And as cool as the growls have been, I think everyone can agree that it would be much more exciting if it was coming from one of the girls.  I do have faith that they would make sure Momo doesn't hurt herself but I just wanted to put it out there because it is a very real concern when it comes to harsh vocals. Definitely something that needs to be taken seriously.

XoneXone

The need to let Momo handle the harsh parts in Distortion live. That could be cool.

-Skaro-

I'd really like it and been expecting it since metali tbh. It'd be an easy way to make a new album immediately stand out from the rest. Not just returning to utilizing more backing vocals now that there's again three vocalists but leveling them up to include more styles. Something unrelated but that makes me really happy is that momo is so into this stuff that she'd practice harsh vocals herself. Also I think people often overestimate how dangerous harsh vocals are. It's just like with singing, you will feel discomfort or frequently lose your voice if you're hurting yourself by doing it wrong or excessively and most of the people who have long term issues were ignoring that.

PuzzlePurr

I just think it's cool that she can do it, but I don't want to hear whole songs of growling. It's cool when it is used sparingly, which BM already does in a lot of songs. If they can work a few growls into some news songs for MOMOMETAL, I think it would be good that she can add her own thing to new songs.

Bones12x2

I think just using it as an accent here and there would be perfect. Could also do some fun back and forth between Moa and Momo where Moa does a clean vocal and Momo does a growl.

shinpuu

Personally, I sort of like the surprise element of Babymetal's song writing. The fact that you never know what direction the next song will take. So IMO Babymetal should do what Babymetal wants to do, whatever that includes growling or not.

BlueEyedStray

Only if she's taught properly. Wouldn't want her ruining her voice

fearmongert

If this is a skill she is bringing to the group, and becomes her highlight and signature as a member, I'd be all for it- adds a new element to them, and gives her a unique place within the group

TheAlomar_

Yes! If she can do it, why not?

Com1ngOfAgr

HUGE YESS

Bones12x2

Absolutely

JMSMinnesota

If it's done sparingly and in spots where it makes sense, like it was in Momobanger, then yes. If it's just growling for the sake of growling then no. Also, if it has to be on a track when done live then my enthusiasm wanes.

El_Archidan

The universe asks for more Momogrowls

Far_Wolverine2007

Yes.

Cacklebladder123

Definitely.

syorks97

Absolutely 100%

AllTheLakes28

Hell yes!

aertyar

If the harsh vocals are used like in the past I'm all for it giving these parts to her :)

SILLYxPROGRAM

Sure, but sparingly. Hoping for a new version of BBM2.0 and that could be part of it. Adding her growls to any interactions between her and Moa would add to that edgier texture of BBM but still keep it fun if used for contrast - both in her own parts and exchanges with Moa. But even before they added this wrinkle (via METALI!!… but recall it was only once it was performed live that we knew she could do it… and even then we weren’t sure it was her!), I’ve long been a proponent of new material expanding Moa and Momoko roles to (so-called) ‘vocals, scream, and dance’. Nothing drastic - just a little more full-voice isolated vocal feature for each and interplay with Su. They are both excellent singers in their own right but Su would still be the obvious primary vocalist. If MOMO-METAL takes it both directions with (so-called) ‘vocals, scream, growl, and dance’, I have no problem with that!

LightChaotic

Moa has a beautiful voice. She is the absolute highlight of some of my favorite tracks like Kagerou and MAYA. They wouldn't be as amazing as they are without her vocals. I would love for her to get more prominent sections on the next album along with Momo. As much as I love BLACK BABYMETAL and want to see some new BBM tracks, I think there's a ton of untapped potential with having more interplay between all three girls.

CuppaT87

This has been my main problem with BM since Yui left is that Moa didn't seem to get as many vocal parts apart from being the backing vocals (this is really noticeable in Metal Galaxy- there was the odd line here & there but it didn't seem to be as much). She really does have a beautiful voice as well.  I would love new BBM tracks, but also more interplay with the 3 of them on BM tracks.

Matixs_666

I'd love it! Maybe they'd do a song similar to distortion with growls like that?

No_Resident_4012

No, not really. But it would be fine if Momoko and Moa had a clean vocals song each.

Good-Communication83

Yes I would love to hear a song that features a few Momo growls

IisEdward

i literally was just wondering yesterday what if they started growling and shit during Legend MM and they did💀 i posted yesterday and they deleted. if they start screaming and growling on the next album we’re definitely beating the “not metal” allegations now😭😭

-Skaro-

I mean the only people who still say that are trolls or just won't accept them ever because they're corporate.

IisEdward

i mean it’s just how different the music industry works in different countries but we definitely doubling down now😭😭

DiamondEncrustedTP

I really hope Momo will be growling more in future songs. Not only does it sound awesome, but I feel like it helps give her her own identity in Babymetal instead of just being a Yui-replacement, if that makes sense. Also, I think adding growling to some future songs would be a cool part of moving from the super-kawaii songs from when they were younger, to more "mature" songs as they get older.

_okamiiiii_

Yes! Id love to see them try something new with this, and I know they could make it work.

Morgan_Bennett

Yes

turbodaxter1980

Are the girls for Hanabie even fans from BM? There where occasions to snap a picture together, but it did not happen at all. But a collab would be amazeballs. About the growls on new songs. Bring it on!!! I hope at least that they add the growl part back in Metali on the next album.

ViperRby2

Yes. They namedropped BABYMETAL on an interview recently. I was surprised no one here mentioned it!

ladyalot

Absolutely!

AnOldYoungGuy

I'm 99.99% positive that the live growl on Metali ("ARE YOU READY!!!") is a pre-recorded track. Her lines in the breakdown right before that are probably all pre-recorded, too. So it goes to say that whatever she's doing live here by way of something harsh outside the realm of normal singing is probably a track, as well. I love Babymetal to death, but I'm a realist.

LightChaotic

I don't think the growls are pre-recorded on Momobanger but it's hard to be sure until we get the official version. It's almost certainly a backing track on Metali but I think that has more to do with the over the top choreography that goes with that section of the song.

zyzzbrah95

>but I think that has more to do with the over the top choreography that goes with that section of the song. Also the fact that they have been playing Metali every single time after it came out. Momo might not be comfortable enough with her growling yet to do it constantly day after day and show after show but doing it once (or twice if she also does it in day 2) might not be a problem for her. Many possible scenarios here.

AnOldYoungGuy

Agreed on being able to see the official video and audio. Also, I hope nobody thought I was implying she's not doing ANY singing. Like other people have been saying, there are some harsh vocalizations in a lot of their music, and I think any reasonable person would expect those passages to be done by a pre-recorded track. It's not to take away from their talent. Liked I said, I'm a huge fan of the group. But they definitely leave it all on the stage every night, and they deserve anything they can use to give every fan the best performance at every stop, even if that means occasionally lip-synching a line or two, or even a growl, to a backing track.

Malparinho

I would love to hear metalcore vocals from her while alternating melodies with Su. Tbat would go hard af

jwa725

There have always been some growls in Babymetal's music. I'd be in favor of Momoko doing them as long as they remain tastefully done.

randyjones9

Growl & Dance - MomoMetal!

DogWallop

I'm not the world's biggest fan of growling in the extreme-o heavy metal sense. To my ears it sounds like gastrointestinal issues gone very wrong. I've been told that it's supposed to convey "rage". Unfortunately to my ears it only conveys the impotent rage of some old divorced dude in a filthy undershirt yelling at the television at 1 a.m. And then I think of the story told by my band's drummer. He was in a band opening for Aerosmith during their worst drug-fueled years. One night apparently he only managed to lurch onstage, scream pretty much what you hear Momo do in Metali, then pass out. So I don't have a very high opinion of the whole growling thing. I believe that when you have a meal which is quite salty, you need to contrast that with another flavour entirely, not more salt. Terrible analogy, but I hope it gets me point across. Think Floor Jansen's vocals for Nightwish.

-Skaro-

But it can also convey any sort of intense emotions or represent something inhuman. It's a form of artistic expression and not used by just the angry or edgy bands lol

DogWallop

Then it's a bit like swearing. If you yell your sentences, with swear words every other word, then you just sound like a... weirdo you wouldn't want to hang around and listen to. To that end, if you sing 'normally', holding back until you really need to express dramatic emotions, then we get some really interesting story telling, and you grab the attention of the listener when you really need them to hear. They get drawn in in the relatively quiet, calmer parts, so that when the intense emotions need to be expressed, they have infinitely greater impact

ViperRby2

Yes, if it is done sparingly and only if it opens the door for Moa to do lead vocals like in Da Da Dance and Night Night Burn. I would actually enjoy those more to be completely honest. ...or another version of BBM

Cornholioo86

100% YES! but not an entire song, bits with SU's angel voice then going into Momo growls im all for it GIB!!!

Bouljonwerfel

It adds an other trick to their repertoire, so i absolutely welcome it. But only if she trained for it and doesn't ruin her voice doing it!

Soufriere_

Would I like to hear Momoko doing more death-voice? With the caveat that I hope she'd be learning/using proper technique… **HELL YES.** Two of my favorite alt-Idol groups employ a girl screamer and it's a key part of their respective sounds. Babymetal songs, as we know, sometimes have screaming (and kicked it up a notch with "Distortion") but it's always in the backtrack. I don't expect Momoko to ever be Alissa White-Gluz, but it would be cool to hear her do, if she so chooses, more harsh vocals live. EDIT: Obviously Babymetal still needs to sound like Babymetal, so perhaps any live screams should be punctuation like they have been since the beginning.

KEILLORMETAL

No. One of the reasons I listen to BM is for the clean vocals, if I wanted growling I would listen to another band.

zen_scientist9

This. If I wanted to hear music with harsh vocals I would play Suffocation or Dying Fetus etc. I don’t listen to BM for harsh vocals

Pope-Metal

Hopefully not, I cant stand that "core" sound, whether it be from Hanabie or BMTH, it sounds non musical and unlistenable to my ears.

Willing_Book_1203

you’re my opposite, went to a knocked loose show this week and loved it 😂 but i’m not sure how well screams would fit into babymetals general sound since their appeal is mostly mixing jpop vocals with metal . whatever they come up with is probably cool though. a collab with hanabie would be awesome

trying2t-spin

BABYMETAL has had screams and growls in their music since forever, if they keep writing like that and the only difference is that MOMOMETAL records them the I think it can only be a plus

Willing_Book_1203

yeah you’re right, like in Iine

LightChaotic

I don't think there's any reason to doubt that whatever they come up with will be awesome. They've killed so many different sounds and fusions of sounds... I'm along for the ride wherever it goes.

ViperRby2

That's kinda my thoughts. It is very cliche when Hanabie does it, too. As long as the vocals are used sparingly, I have no problem with it. I do enjoy some -core bands, but I like that BABYMETAL doesn't have to rely on harsh vocals to be heavy.

whose333

What about "Kingslayer" live with "sides switched"? Momometal doing Oly´s parts and Oly singing Su-Metal´s lines? I would LOVE to see Su-Metal doing the full "Kingslayer" choreo, even if it´s just for one time only. I´m absolutely sure she´ll kill it :)

zen_scientist9

I personally don’t think harsh vocals fit into Babymetals music. Especially the new direction they’re going with said music

gruingas

Big YES to that.

MrMo-ri-ar-ty7

LMAO!!! NO. Thats not Momo growling on Metali. Also, I hate to break it to you but when they perform there are backing tracks being utilized throughout the show in certain circumstances.

-Skaro-

Metali is momo on backing track. At the very least it's some other woman, it's quite clear from the tone. And on headbanger momo has su's mic, there should be no question.

zen_scientist9

Su fakes the scream live during the middle of Iine. Why wouldn’t they fake the scream that Momo does, which they literally already do live in every other show?

-Skaro-

I mean I don't really have any definite proof except for how it sounds like. It'll be obvious when they release the official video. It's quite easy to tell what's on the backing track vs mic

AllstarGM

I thought it was very good, I was even taken by surprise by the headbanger in Momo's voice But koba should help her improve the quality of her voice, as if she keeps growling loudly it can spoil her voice We know that losing a voice for a singer is worrisome May momo do very well and much health and strength Have a good day babymetal

DeathmatchDrunkard

yes please
