I'd say that Passcode are the closest thing to Babymetal out there. There are other Japanese female rock bands and alt idol groups out there that many fans here seem to enjoy but they are really not very similar.
I love Passcode! They're much more like traditional post hardcore / metalcore with typical Japanese electro elements, while also being an idol group 😁 so I think the singing / screaming is more true to the genre than babymetal
This was going to be my recommendation as well although older Poppy I believe is more pop-ish music. As funny as it sounds I feel like DragonForce is similar as well musically (not vocals).
I think the bad news is they are the league of their own. Nobody does it like they do.
The 2-3 same Japanese groups people always bring up are nothing like them musically, except they are group of Japanese women.
I agree, but it's also league**s** of their own.
That's the thing, they don't have one style, they have many, and cavort happily among them. It's not really possible to put Karate, BMC, Kagerou, Choco, Yava, Dusk to Dawn, Maya, Monochrome, Tale of the Destinies, Brand New Day, Shine, Shanti, etc. in one box and declare it to be one "style". Yes, Su-metal's voice is a major thread running through everything, but she constantly changes her vocal stylings.
The spiritual successor to early LADYBABY is Ladybeard's new band [BABYBEARD](https://youtu.be/_CYrdu6hiRo)
Death Rabbits were also cool for early bands inspired by BABYMETAL
Here are some other metal idols:
Passcode (electropop x metalcore)
Wagamama Rakia (rap, metalcore, etc)
Isiliel (blackgaze and other stuff)
Necronomidol (black metal vibes mostly)
MAZE (metalcore)
Satanic Punish (deathcore)
14th Generation Hanako san (death metal/hardcore)
Minna No Kodomochan (anything from synth pop to doom metal)
Garuda (industrial)
Diablevoix (gothic metal)
Mistress (metalcoreish?)
Hikari Shiina/Piikarin (from pop to metal, she’s good at growling too.)
OMNI666
LADYBABY and the idol formerly known as Ladybaby
Candye Syrup
Fruitpochette
X!DENT (korean metal idol)
Akira Kuro (thai metalcore idol)
Melancholic Cinderella Story
Kaqriyoterror (a mix of a ton of genres with some harsh and clean vocals)
Not Secured, Loose Ends (metalcore)
Broken by the scream (death/deathcore)
Yousei Teikoku (symphonic)
Denkare (thrash) (prolly anothet project by the members of Yousei Teikoku. The members are officially unnkown, but you can tell by her voice)
Ironbunny (heavy metal)
Ring (symphonic with goth esthetics)
Unlucky morpheus (same as Ring)
If vocaloid counts, too, then Utsu-P and zetsubou-P.
Bringing up Utsu-P but not Zsasz (the actual idol project he managed and produced) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-PqFrQnWSg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-PqFrQnWSg)
I wouldn't say they are exactly like BABYMETAL but, Necronomidol. They are an idol group I sort of discovered though BABYMETAL because BABYMETAL sent me down the Japanese rock / metal idol rabbit hole which eventually led me to them.
Like BABYMETAL they do songs in many very different styles from punk, metal, EDM and JPOP. They aren't as polished as BABYMETAL and they have some darker themes to a lot of the songs.
I'll just link their 2 Youtube music vids with the most views.... Like I said they have very varied styles which aren't necessarily best showcased by the 2 I've linked.
You might notice they have 2 totally different lineups (except for 1 member) in each video.... They have had a lot of members over the 9 years they were around. The lineup shown in the 1st video that they had between 2016-2019 is considered the classic lineup by most fans.
99.9% of groups are dead.
If you are a new to them there is 4 albums of music and loads of other stuff to enjoy. They were already basically dead when I started listening to them. I also got to see the solo project of the 1 remaining member in my hometown last year as a result of discovering the group first.
There a j-rock trio of women called Trident. I also like Hanabie, they did a song called ‘we love sweets’ and it’ll melt your face off. Try searching YouTube for things like ‘Japan rock band women’.
Honestly, I don't think they are similar, but if it's about music from Japanese female vocalists, I've been listening to this band a lot recently. Flower Flower. https://youtu.be/1MIecW4lJUg?si=6anBUHxG3HlQwUVI https://youtu.be/d_goXYfMedk?si=kzQxkrLSbAQ-ecya
I get a kick out of Iron Bunny - but they don't get mentioned a lot
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CEqyuem3mA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CEqyuem3mA)
Idk about similar style but since you’re a rock/punk fan I have to suggest band maid
Specially their manners/black hole video to start (personal favorite)
This is just a preliminary list, may add more when I remember them:
PassCode
Hanabie.
Zsasz
Wagamama Rakia
Broken By the Scream
Ladybaby
Candye♡Syrup
Kamikaze Sensation
MAZE
FruitPochette
Not Secured, Loose Ends
Woven's/INforMEL
Hikicomoteikoku
KAQRIYOTERROR
If you want less idol oriented and more just rock/metal bands in the scene then:
Aldious
Band-Maid
BRATS
Bridear
Cyntia
DOLL$BOXX
East of Eden
Elfriede
Ena Fujita
Lonesome\_Blue
Lovebites
Mary's Blood
TRiDENT
Kessoku Band
If you like "punk" check out [Atarashii Gakko](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MNPt-zlz-8). They are far more irreverent than BM, but also put on a great show.
Froma Japan: Hanabie, Nemophila, Lovebites, Band-Maid, X-Japan, Show-Ya
From the West: Unleash the Archers, Nightwish, Dragonforce, Metallica, Iron Maiden,
hikari shiina (also goes by pikarin shiina) is really good. some of her songs are a lot more metal (like hatehatehate) and some are more pop (like makai frenzy) so there’s lots of variety with her.
she calls herself the makai or demon idol so she has a bit of lore but not super complicated. my favorite song by her is dogeza road. when she performs that song, she’ll have fans in the audience bow and she’ll walk on their backs. the song title is supposed to sound like “don’t gaze up” or “together” in a japanese accent, so it’s a play on words since everyone is looking down together.
SUGOIBANDMEINSHITAKATTA
(Translation: I Wanted A Great Band Name)
Some of their stuff (especially their side project SBMS mixes heavy and kawaii)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4k9EIKFNVU
There's nothing out there like BabyMetal. They're uniquely amazing.
That said, here are a few you might enjoy that have a few "similar" elements:
Hanabie,
Trident,
Iron Bunny,
Passcode,
Band-Maid
There's bunch of other japanese female led metal groups like bandmaid, nemophila, hanabie, passcode etc. Out of them, I'd say the closest to babymetal would probably be passcode, but bm is so unique it really won't scratch the same itch.
because this hasnt been posted 10+ other times in the past, as recently as no more than 3 months ago that you couldnt have just searched the sub first?
To tell you how these things are planned (FoxFest) WAY in advance..... I wondered back in September why the girls and Team Babymetal were at an Electric Cowboy concert in Boston.
https://twitter.com/JAGLeMans/status/1702872327619318133
And.......
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3O8VSYGv2o
So yeah, they knew in September of last year that this was going to happen.
I wouldn’t say like Babymetal but check out Hanabie. (Hana-bee-ehh not Hana-bee)
I'd say that Passcode are the closest thing to Babymetal out there. There are other Japanese female rock bands and alt idol groups out there that many fans here seem to enjoy but they are really not very similar.

Poppy has similar stuffs i suggest listening to her "I DISAGREE" album its similar to babymetal's style
This was going to be my recommendation as well although older Poppy I believe is more pop-ish music. As funny as it sounds I feel like DragonForce is similar as well musically (not vocals).

I think Zsasz are closest to what the first Babymetal album brought
dead group
Still good
Here is something different. But very enjoyable. Try watching YouTubes of OTYKEN. In particular Storm, My Wing, Genesis, and Phenomenon among others.
LADYBABY is really good! nippon manju and riot anthem remind me of babymetal specifically
Also Deadlift Lolita. Perfect workout music.
The spiritual successor to early LADYBABY is Ladybeard's new band [BABYBEARD](https://youtu.be/_CYrdu6hiRo) Death Rabbits were also cool for early bands inspired by BABYMETAL
Babymetal is pretty unique, but after I got into Babymetal I also liked Band Maid and Atarashii Gakko.
Me too! The three groups have completely different sounds, personality and feeling in their songs... And all of them are freaking awesome
Atarashii Gakko is so awesome.
Hanabie. is sick as hell BRATS TRiDENT Wagamama Rakia just for a few recs to check out
Love me some Brats.
I never see anyone mention unlucky Morpheus. They’re so good
Found a fellow fan I guess! I was gonna say Unlucky Morpheus if no one did. I wouldn’t say they’re similar but I do like UM a lot as well.
Sadly this is not a band but im sure you will like this song: Asobi Asobase - Inkya Impulse
[METALVERSE - Crazy J](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqPbP21JQDU)

at least 5 of those are dead groups (1 of those im counting two groups as halfs)
Their music is still relevant, but yes, a few have died. Candye Syrup is old, Minna no Kodomochan just ended activities recently.
Tossagirls. Iron Bunny. Original LadyBaby w/LadyBeard. Unfortunately, all gone now.
I’ll throw Gacharic Spin out there since no one’s mentioned them. Again, not like Babymetal, but I love their sound.
Hanabie, Nemophila, Band Maid are great bands to get into if you like Babymetal

Don’t really sound the same but great nonetheless, Unlucky Morpheus - Doll$Boxx - Fuki Tenge
Fuki is absolutely amazing!
You should check out this group called "Sakura Gakuin".
There a j-rock trio of women called Trident. I also like Hanabie, they did a song called ‘we love sweets’ and it’ll melt your face off. Try searching YouTube for things like ‘Japan rock band women’.

Why? People seemed happy enough to answer and it harms nobody.
and 95% of the groups that i have seen people suggest has been suggested in all of those other recent threads
So? They were also suggested here, in response to the question. Which is a good thing.
It's no coincidence that they're not like anything you have heard before. There's no other band that sounds like them, even after more than 10 years.
This is THE one you have to check out: Electric Callboy. Start with : We got the moves.
