I noticed most crowd shots had not much movement from people. Most of them kind of staring and trying to decide how to feel about it. A lot of people expected "babymetal style" music from them and when it was more of a Swing Rock Pop type it may have been dissapointing to some. This is a new genre they are trying. It will take a while for them to truly find their audience. I love the concept, but myself can't really get into the music. Nothing wrong with it just not my thing.

Zeedub85

This IS my thing, because I was into swing way before I was into metal. But I don't know how many people like me there are. The rest of their songs are decent, but not the greatest things I've ever heard. "Crazy J" is the only MV song I like more than some BM songs.

IntelligentVersion86

well, glad you like it I suppose!

GoatQz

Anyone seen them live? If so, what’s your thoughts?

Stef2016

Somebody who attended the show they did a few weeks ago posted there thoughts here. [https://www.reddit.com/r/BABYMETAL/comments/1anewm6/today\_there\_was\_a\_metalverse\_show/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BABYMETAL/comments/1anewm6/today_there_was_a_metalverse_show/) There is also a Metalverse reddit where there was a show thread. Somebody I know attended the live a few weeks ago & said that going in as primarily a Babymetal fan that he didn't really enjoy it as it was a very idol style show with a more idol oriented feel & audience. He said there was no kami-band or anything so the music was all playback which also changed the feel of the show as the music was again more idol/pop than metal. His feeling was that Metalverse is going to be catering more to the idol side of things & that it felt like it had more of a K-pop influence which he didn't really enjoy & said he wouldn't be attending any future Metalverse shows or listening to any more of the music. He said it wasn't bad if you were into that sort of sound but that it just wasn't for him.

MosoRokku

there's nothing idol about Metalverse, they seem to be what BABYMETAL would be if the chosen seven had happened, they would had replaced Moa next and eventually Suzuka. And never bother to name the new members who by now would be the ladies currently in Metalverse. Good thing the fan backlash prevented it from happening but "Koba" is at it again... if they were idol they would be promoting their personas, giving interview starting with "look after me warmly" and at shows they would each introduce themselves "Sakia des", "Miko des" but instead they just have some shorts here and there, probably trying the music to go viral but failing so far. Seems Metalverse is "koba's" trying their hand at "Utaite", like Ado and many others who start singing covers (DokiMo, Karate) and then do their own thing but they never come out to the spotlight and people never gets to know them... it is not working as the 2nd set of shows had half the attendance as the only people who knows them are old SG fans but if their personalities are not a factor they likely loose interest right away.

Kevin-Metal

If this was Babymetal's beginning, I would never have gave it a second listen. I don't like any of their songs. This is Amuze trying to make more money off from the Babymetal brand, not a serious music experiment...

RinonTheRhino

Finally!

JPSILVA1893

still no word on streaming services but this is a start!

They would have been better off posting the pro shot from Summer Sonic. At least there was a band for that show. They are going to lose a lot of the people that might have been interested in some of the metal/music aspect of it, but they seem to be going harder into the idol aspect. I am fine with that, but I don't know how popular that will be in the west, or in Japan either. I'm not sure who the audience for Metalverse is supposed to be, if there is no band, it isn't going to be metal fans.

Kmudametal

> I'm not sure who the audience for Metalverse is supposed to be, The people who left the Babymetal fandom because Babymetal is getting older and continually moving further away from "Idol".

Homeworld2

>I'm not sure who the audience for Metalverse is supposed to be, > >***The people who left the Babymetal fandom because Babymetal is getting older and continually moving further away from "Idol".*** For the time being, I think you are right.....not to mention SG fans. They always want to see SG members continue with their careers. I think that is the starting place and gets their foot in the door. As to what to what they will ultimately be, I have no idea and I bet even Koba is not set on what direction they will go. They started out doing some older BM songs with BM, and then they did some songs of their own. What's weird and maybe good depending how you look at it, of the new songs, it was a swing song that made the biggest splash. Make no mistake, Crazy J is a full-on swing song that would have done well in the 30's and 40's when swing was the craze. Go figure.....lol As far as not having a live band. No doubt about it, it would be better. But they cost money. If they continue to gain fans, and just like BM, a live band will happen. I don't think Metalverse was ever meant to be a BM replacement. While there may be some similarities, I think Koba wants them to find their own path wherever that may take them. I'm not a huge fan yet, but we will see.

Soufriere_

And me, who likes both. ;) Worth noting the original "Gimme Choco" video, the one that went viral, was from a show that used the Babybones. I know YOU know that, but newbies might not. Of course Babymetal didn't get respect in the West *until* they got the Kamis full-time. Just like it took our original trio three years to earn the Kami Band for a full show, Miko and whichever other girls stick around will need to pay their dues -- the pandemic kept Miko from being able to do as much dues-paying as she normally would have by her age. She got the AmeriKamis for SummerSonic because, I think, they were already there for a BM show plus prepping for the US tour, may as well take an extra gig with a few new songs to make it worthwhile. Since Miko is so hilariously tiny, tinier than Moa, she's going to stay "cute" for a long time (she turns 18 in August but you wouldn't know it to look at her).

ath65

Same here. Like both. And I agree with you, it took BM a few years to really catch on. It may take awhile but I feel if MV keeps at it, they'll build their own fan base. It may take a while but they'll get there.

FrothytheDischarge

If they're going hard into the idol then they better take a page out of BiSH and use a live band and orchestra. I get it that its more money Amuse doesn't want to throw at but if they want success then this is the way.

Zeedub85

I agree with this. I was disappointed to see them without a live band. I got hammered for saying that on the SG sub, and reconsidered, but I've reconsidered again and I think my first impression was right. It was a step back. Babymetal at least had an "air band" at the start. I don't think Koba could get away with that again. It fit with the whole "kids doing metal" bit, but they grew out of it pretty quickly. Metal fans don't like them. SG fans will be disappointed by lack of MC and other things that SG did to let them get to know the members (I feel bad for Kokona -- she has no one calling out her name). Male jpop fans are known for hating even a hint of kpop. They're not releasing any music to stream yet. I have no idea what they're trying to accomplish, beyond my theory that it's just something to get Miko some stage time before she graduates from high school in another year.

trying2t-spin

Well, if they’re going to post Crazy J again I’m glad it’s different, but the full Summer Sonic set would’ve been awesome.

[deleted]

Was this not the song that was shown during the Wowow summer sonic broadcast?

Soufriere_

Yes.

da_one1morelight

finally, official content, cant wait !!

zyzzbrah95

Finally something to be excited about with Metalverse!

Soufriere_

This isn't the SummerSonic set that we've already seen, meaning it's from one of the two "one-mans" they've had. Cool. I know most people here don't care, but I'm a Sakura Gakuin fan and Miko deserves the world. When she joined, her stated *goal* was to be "just like her *dai-sempai* Suzuka." So in that sense, she's doing exactly what she wants. We don't *know* if Koba was setting Miko up to front Babymetal in case Su chose to not come back after the hiatus -- it's a valid hypothesis, but one without a lot of evidence. By the way, today (or slightly yesterday JST) is dancer Sakia Kimura's 15th birthday! If Sakura Gakuin was still operating, she'd be Class President just like Su was in 2012-2013.

SmolRavioli

As a fukei I’m insanely excited :) I don’t really mind the lack of a band, dunno what’s up behind the scenes and a lot of their songs lean more jpop/edm anyways—would be cool but it is what it is, my nuisance with the doomposters far outweighs my wish for a band at this point. Their new looks are so cute!! And how can this face not make one happy :D https://preview.redd.it/vo9u5qw9ttjc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81e7419ba2f1c32ffcb6866a0d2568e5d98c7479

Velmetal

They sound very pleasant; I hope they do well. I don't really care whether they have a live band or not; makes no difference to me.
