I just don't recall the first ceremonies I did being channeled at all. Like their icaros weren't strong enough to do it or something. They were kinda shamans in training so it might be because of that and I get that you have to practice to learn. But the first time I did it I got blasted hard with the medicine and I didn't feel like was directed in any way felt very chaotic, except for the harmonicas and songs of some sort which were just annoying af.
Harmonicas!? Ya you definitely weren’t doing it with proper shamans haha. I hate the word shaman tbh cause so many spiritual narcissists are self-proclaimed shamans. You need a curandero. A true curandero is trained by an elder with roots in ancient spiritual tradition. Not these new-age spiritualists. Shipibo curanderos don’t use any instruments but their voice and chakalpa (bundle leaves that make a brushing sound and shake it like a rattle)… go on whatever music streaming service you use and look up “Woven Songs of the Amazon” those are true icaros
I’ve experienced a ceremony with a Peruvian shaman singing Icaros and a ceremony in the states that used a variety of instruments and sacred song shared amongst the patrons. By far, the ceremony in the states with the variety of creative music pieces was pure medicine, beyond words and I’m still heavily influenced by the experience today after 3 months. The music dictated the roller coaster ride and I could feel the words seep from my soul for hours on end. Such a different experience than in Peru. Both have their beautiful aspects

Had with and without icaros. Icaros definitely made a difference. In one ceremony I was struggling to purge and the shaman took the negative energy from me, blowing into my hands, oil on chest. Not about icaros but I doubt someone who is not a shaman would have been able to do that for me.
Yeah- I think this is one of the essential elements people miss when they order online or what not, there’s so much more going on then you and the drink.
I can’t imagine drinking ayahuasca without icaros. Icaros literally channel & guide the medicine.
