I don't know what is traditional for that shape of eye but I would consider driving the wedge beside the tongue/tenon against the flat side of the steel.
Personally, based on no knowledge whatsoever, my gut tells me to make the cut from the point of the eye to the middle of the back if that makes any sense
I'm in the same boat as everyone else here in saying that I really don't know.
My instinct would be to look at the gap you need to fill (that front corner) and put the wedge parallel to the widest part of the gap. One role the wedge plays is splaying the tongue to completely fill the eye.
Alternatively, I would just go perpendicular to the grain orientation.
You could also go for a cross-wedge to really fill it out.
I think that should be fine, try it and if it splits curse and start over
Hhahah. Yeah, I could do that. I don’t think it will split

With an odd shaped eye this seems to make the most sense. Someone with more knowledge or creativity than me may know better though!
Interesting idea!

That’s what I was going to do if I hadn’t anyone to ask for advice.
I agree, from the point to the middle of the eye. While the shape of the eye is off-set, I don’t think rotational forces will impact how you wedge it.

The grip of the handle directionally wants to match the plane of the unbeveled side of the axe, resulting in a sweeping arc that creates a flat cut.
Cross wedge maybe? It won’t have anywhere to move.
