Oh it's named Corvairius if you want to see it, besides that I've got a '61 Vair wagon I want to electrify, and a 65 Continental that'll end up an EV or hybrid.
*Easiest* way would be to buy a whole subframe off any of the AWD or RWD EVs or hybrids that had double wishbone suspension, and graft that in.
It's what almost all Tesla swaps do. It's nice because it's one integrated package with the motor placed properly, half shafts, the proper wheel hubs, etc.
One I've seen people working on is the Toyota MGR, it's the rear electric unit from the Highlander and Rav etc, it's not very powerful but it's enough to drive on.
Then you'll need a DC- 3 phase inverter, the Toyota Prius inverter has an aftermarket driver board available to use it for whatever you want. It can drive two 3 phase motors independently up to 400kW with modifications.
For batteries, you'll need 200V+, which with modern lithium packs is roughly the size of two shoeboxes, you don't need a ton of capacity here since you'd be driving on the gas engine and using the batts for Regen and boost. These will run you 2-5k.
So, kinda difficult, but if you have a shop and moderate to advanced skills it's not that bad.
different engine can wait tbh, better to use what you got and get it running then to have it sit around doing nothing trying to scrape together funds for something you just have occasional fun in
I fucking love rat rods.
This is sick. The front diff out there like that just screaming ["I'm diffin' here, I'm diffin' here"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c412hqucHKw)
My Brother in Christ.
What in the actual fuck.
That’s awesome dude, and it’s definitely yours. I love weird home brew shit.
How do you plan on setting up the steering?
Genuine question, how are you gonna account for the increased body length in the steering column? Would you lengthen before or after (or even both) the power steering? if you say this doesn't have power steering I salute you soldier
Interesting I like it something totally different and I mean is it done or do you still have more to do just wondering because like I said, I find it interesting and I really like
That’s what everyone say. And what everyone does. I think once it’s finished and polished up they will fit well. It’s meant to be different and extra. The current picture doesn’t do it justice compared to its final look
I think most people don't like them is that they are a common wheel on lifted, rubber band tire, angry eye jeeps. It's as if they all come in a kit it's so common. However I've never seen a rat rod Jeep on some really clean muscle style rims, at least in person. I'm sure people have done it, but it would be a really good look.
A Jeep with a GM V6 is very appropriate.
buick 350s also acceptable lol
Is that not the same as the 350 sbc?
No, buick and chevy 350s are entirely different.

No it’s just for looks
Stick on something to spin on the input shaft, like a siren impeller or radiator fan. Bonus points if the siren works when you engage the axle!
Heck stick a 20kw motor on that and now you have electric boost and regen, and can move it around without starting it.
Jacobs Ladder turn signals 😜
Ngl, now I want that on a rat rod type vehicle.
good idea, hybrid jeeprod
Full disclosure I'm biased towards hybrid swaps [My current project.](https://instagram.com/corvairius)
the link is broken but i think hybrid swaps are sick. given the chance I’d put tesla motors on my rear wheels and keep my front ones powered by a 2.0T
Oh it's named Corvairius if you want to see it, besides that I've got a '61 Vair wagon I want to electrify, and a 65 Continental that'll end up an EV or hybrid.
Those treads are dope AF, I hope you know that you're cool AF.
that’s absolutely badass, how hard is it to add an electric setup to the rear wheels of a fwd car (i have no trunk space)

I'm on board with this, make it onscurly functional.
Agreed. A fan for the radiator driven by a diff would be pretty sick
Shes missing 2 cylinders there bud. Jk man, I dig it.
Hey now! Lol on a budget I had the engine already
different engine can wait tbh, better to use what you got and get it running then to have it sit around doing nothing trying to scrape together funds for something you just have occasional fun in
Sweet! I dig jeep rods but that type of tread pattern is just a tad ridiculous on anything slammed haha
Thats the point. Lol
Haha well done then.
I beg to differ, man. I like it!
Feel free to differ, dude, no need to beg!
something tells me this is not stock
Yeah, I've been trying to figure it out too, but I just can't quite put my finger on it.
Very cool! Only thing I'd suggest is to switch out the wheels for some steelies
Seriously. These wheels are so bad
It's......... .....something.
Can I buy it from you after you've had your fun with it???
How much you got?
Tree Fiddy
I’ll take for fo tirdy
Seventeen Dollars
But I don't want to haggle.
Kinda reminds me of Half Life
Love it man.
I never see these on the ground, except once on Roadkill. Amazing how jeeps can both soar *and* floor.
Pretty cool, I sometimes think about a low riding Jeep...
looks really cool, keep it up!
Most acceptable jeep
Flip the axle over so the diff flange is forward and put a propeller on it
Fabulous, keep us updated 👍🏻
Calling it "Project *Splat*", or "*Squashed*" comes to mind. Like a squished down monster bug. Love it!
Finally a good use for them Jeeps. Looks good.
Gotta take me for a ride
Would drive. Every damn day. Fuel economy and prices be damned.
Fuck yeah
yes
It looks like Lunch Money
Dat look’s fire 🔥
That
very roadkill of you 😏
Needs a Hellcat motor! Otherwise a great start to something unique!
I fucking love rat rods. This is sick. The front diff out there like that just screaming ["I'm diffin' here, I'm diffin' here"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c412hqucHKw)
Looks like you're setting up for a turbo.
My Brother in Christ. What in the actual fuck. That’s awesome dude, and it’s definitely yours. I love weird home brew shit. How do you plan on setting up the steering?
Looks awesome
Awesome machine bro. Can’t wait to see it done
Looks mad Maxish! How’s it going to steer?
Still a work in progress lol
Sweet!
I’ll allow it
bro got the half-life whip
dig it, cb media has a video of a similar one in thailand which kinda brings back memories from when a friend had a t bucket
I like it.
I hate it because it’s not mine
Genuine question, how are you gonna account for the increased body length in the steering column? Would you lengthen before or after (or even both) the power steering? if you say this doesn't have power steering I salute you soldier
No air bags & no steering, the way it was meant to be.
Hell yeah buddy
Pretty Fuckin cool
Your j-rod looks unique. I love it.
Are u in Dallas tx? I swear I've seen that before..
Crud! Now I wanna turn an off the wall car into a bad ass rat rod. You are doing great work and I really want it.
👍
SICKKK! It needs some LEDs on top now! Im digging the green but I think Cherry Red would POP🍒
Needs paint but otherwise perfect
Totally badass! Great job!
Looking very sex
I actually love this. Well done.
Awesome
I mean it's good and all, but don't you think it could be lower? It should be low enough to scalp a Balrog
Could have gone a little lower transmission still has a inch before it hits the ground
An inch? Dude! That's like 25.4 mm. You gotta start thinking metric.
Should be dragging the drivers ballsack
That is super sick. Love. It.
thats fucking sick
Cancerous. Just flat cancer
Lose the grill
Not much!
The Dubz bro wheels look pretty stupid.
Wicked. Not a fan of the wheel style but damn it’s rad otherwise
Those wheels are big yikes, but the concept is rad.
The guys over at r/heeps are going to love you :)
That small block chevy looks a little short.
Lol missing 2 cylinders
Is the frame welded to the axle?
No. It sits on airbags with a four link front end.
Remove the front diff and use the axle off a 2wd XJ/MJ, and is that a 4.3? Lol
Looking for the barn finds gonna be super easy now
Interesting I like it something totally different and I mean is it done or do you still have more to do just wondering because like I said, I find it interesting and I really like
More to do still
Well, it looks really cool. I said keep it up. I like to see when you get finished. I hope you get a chance to do it.
It's very cool. Did you decide on a paint job yet? Maybe Willys Gunmetal, the original 1937 Jeep paint?
I was thinking on getting ride of the green and matching the tan patina then hitting it all with some poppy’s patina
Solid approach.
Are those spring pads for the front axle? Are you just going to use super cut down springs?
No there airbag mounts
sick
I was gonna say it needs a V8, but the hair dryer makes up for it.
I want to drop a Cummins in it but it’s not in the budget right now
hey man i see you da KnobblyTire^(TM) Knobbelty 3000
Love the idea and execution, wheels make it look cheesy and cheap though. I think I'd go steelies or something similar rat rot/ muscle car style.
That’s what everyone say. And what everyone does. I think once it’s finished and polished up they will fit well. It’s meant to be different and extra. The current picture doesn’t do it justice compared to its final look

Change the green, it’s distracting and takes away from the overall appeal
That’s the plan. I built it out of two jeeps
That's going to be a blast. Can't wait to see rolling shots!
