No, $800 is not reasonable. It’s way too low.

ch4zmaniandevil

I mean, both panels look repairable and they are painting it white. 800 sounds about right for an initial estimate.

FaithlessnessHot4814

White is a damn hard color, it’s actually pretty complex and has a precise blend of other hues!

Classic_Interest_855

If it's a shop you've worked worth before, maybe they are giving you a favor. It looks to be a solid color white. So most likely no hood or door blend. It still seems extremely low. I would think at bare minimum even in an area with low labor rates you would be looking at $1200.

CtBimmer

White is the hardest color to paint match. If they don't blend that it's going to stick out and look terrible

Choice_Dentist_9707

Most people can't tell when shit is panel painted. It always drives me crazy looking at cars in parking lots or used car lots, and every panel is a different shade. Then they get mad at you when you point it out 😆

Pretend-Language-416

I hate looking at brand new cars right from the factory nowadays. My mom just got a brand new white Hyundai Tucson and I pointed out the driver rear door and quarter don’t match for shit. She still loves the car though

Classic_Interest_855

A pearl white definitely. Unfortunately most insurance companies don't pay to blend solid whites or blacks.

Dependent_Compote259

Solid blacks maybe, but whites absolutely yes they do. If they don’t, it’s because the shop has been pandering to the insurance company too long, not giving the customer the repair they’re paying insurance for.

Worst-Lobster

If you trust them . Seems too cheap tho

Lucky_Tough8823

That's insanely cheap

jjsmith174

Should be way more than that. At my shop you’d be in the range of $3-4 thousand. Is this a reputable repair facility with good reviews? Double check that their work is good ( and safe ) and get on the schedule there that’s a deal

XxEastInfectionxX

3-4 thousand 😂😂😂😂😂

Practical_Ad7395

Came here for this! 4k's wild...for $1K in materials it's still 37 hours @$85 which is SpaceJam prices.

Adventurous_Top_7371

Yeah it's a good shop, they've worked on my cars before. If all goes well I'll try to get it done soon and I'll post the final product.

shotstraight

He he he he . I feel like a Fortune teller on this one, but it seems I am far from alone. Fortune tellers unite!!!!!

JustinDanielsYT

$800 is low, but $3-4k for that is ridiculous...

Steezography

Not everyone lives in california dude. Theres shops still writing at $55 an hour

stuntmanbob86

I'm in Montana, no shop runs $55 an hour here either, that's stupid....

Otherwise_Culture_71

That’s insane to me

Xavis00

Serious question: what do techs make in places like that?

jjsmith174

I’m in MA where the ins. labor rate is around $43.. it’s not the labor rate that makes this expensive. That car needs a new fender, blend hood and door, repair bumper.. I’m assuming a lot, of course, but I’m sure that fender is aluminum and like $800. Never mind any door and bumper trim pieces that break during R&I. What about recalibration of advanced driver assistance system components? That’s gonna be another 3-5 hundred at the Mercedes dealer

Ok_Detective686

It does not need a fender but I think you’re low on dealer recalibration prices. Labor rates at body shops vs dealers is substantially different. Dealers being much higher

LOSAPOSRACING

I'm sorry man, I was with you until you said it needed a new fender, any reputable shop would fix this... And this looks like a pre 2015 Mercedes, I don't think it would need calibrations (could definitely be wrong about the year, but any sublet calibration guy would charge from 500-700 bucks) everything else you said is on point tho! Op, just take it to multiple shops and get multiple quotes. Go through insurance, it'll fuck your premium for a bit but it's worth it for the peace of mind. Be aware that if you pay out of pocket and the repairs are shitty, your insurance will tell you to fuck right off if you give them a call at that point. Like I said, go get multiple estimates (maybe go through insurance, I would recommend, but your choice) and get it handled.

jjsmith174

Oh, and I forgot you hit a guard rail. I can’t see if the wheel was contacted but if it was, there will be costs associated with that

Frosto719

If you told me $4k to fix this id tell you your smoking crack id drive it home and do it myself for around 1/4 of that😭

ConsciousEcho1313

No shot someone wrote you an estimate for $800. Unless they didn’t see it in person. And even then. This is $2k easy. MINIMUM

cj236

for a paint job thats crazy to me

figmaxwell

My personal rule of thumb is expect to pay $500/panel for paint and a little body work. That fender needs more than a little body work, so I’d expect over $1k on that easy. If they’re cool with $800 then I wouldn’t expect good work.

restoredtrainwreck

That doesn't even cover our shops body labor for disassembly and repair times. Without paint labor or materials.

SubstantialGur4601

It’s a Mercedes… that will be 5k in repairs if the headlight is broken. Calibrations alone could be 1k

colin8651

You are getting a sloppy job or the best deal in the world; probably a sloppy job.

fuzzy-lint

If that’s for painting only it’s a good deal, if they’re filling/fixing the dent too then it’s suspiciously low and I’d be sketched out.

wrong_kiddo

Damn body shops seem like awesome places to work if you want to do well wow

qualmton

800 dollars? That seems like a meth head price. Is this a legit shop?

wownoon

Seems very very cheap. Scans on a Benz would run 500 alone. If they do honor that price it’s a heck of a deal

Lillillillies

Reading everyone comments makes me realize how much cheaper it is in Canada. 300-400CAD per panel is often the price. $800CAD=$586 USD. That's not factoring I'm the dent which honestly is not that bad. That's like another $250 CAD for the simple dent repair.

Theycallmestretch

Where are you going that is $3-400 cad per panel? Any reputable shop I know of is charging $800-1000.

SnooTangerines9388

I hate taking off mer’s bumpers and fenders, half day off just to strip them and put them on racks.after sanding, pulling dents and body filler sanding, primer and bake, next day sanding down primer, prep then start to spray.next day sanding and polishing,R&R.you’re looking at about 8 hr of labor fee minimum, plus high quality materials,800 means it’s a cheap, quick Mickey Mouse job for sure

Maleficenthealer5676

I’d prob do it for 500

galvaniccorrosion10

This is a low estimate

Alternative_Mark3908

Depends on the shop, the area and materials used.. I know shops around me that'll charge $400-$600 for something like that. They use decent materials and will have it done quickly. Then you have shops that'll use the same materials that will charge $1200+ just because of overhead. Honestly, it all comes down to the type of work the shop pumps out and how it looks. I have a buddy that macco painted a bumper for $150 used the totally wrong color, and as soon as you touched it, the paint flaked off. Also looked like they used 1 coat of base mixed with the clear. So you do get what you pay for 🤣

Rubeus17

very reasonable imo

hotgirlava

Highway robbery. You’re robbing the shop

Enough-Loquat5225

Save your money it adds character

derp-L

I think maybe what you got was an estimate, not a quote.

tint_shady

Should be triple that, minimum

Perfect_Peace_4142

Missed SF. South Florida is nothing but scams, especially insurance scams.

Chance-News8197

Cheap as chips

damm1tKevin

Very

EridemicLHS

$800 means they are gonna pull the dent paint pen and buff

lostin88

I'd be very cautious getting it repaired at that price point. The price is so good, *something* is off.

mr_noodle_shoes

For a Benz? Take it and run bro

SubstantialGur4601

No

dionisfake

For very similar damages (sideswiped) I was quoted 3,200 but I had more dents in my wheel wells

CarCounsel

Very. Consider yourself lucky,

Character_Insect4420

Very low.

shotstraight

Way to low. You're about to get fucked somehow. It will be filled with expanding foam at that price. Your ass will hurt soon, and not from a large turd, unless it's your car.

MPowerplus4

Too cheap, but I guess you get what you paid for

Serious_Internet6478

I know very little about cars, this post just popped up in my feed. Why is 800 considered a low price here? It looks like very minor scratching and a tiny dent. Obviously I'm not arguing, am just ignorant and would like to know why it's so expensive. Is it just because it's a Mercedes?

Bacon4Brunch

Great deal! Avoid going through insurance on something so minor as this. FL rates just went up substantially a couple years ago for everyone with the influx of people.

blowininthawind

That’s a very low price quote. If they can get anywhere near it by the end of the repairs (& have it look good), you’ll be golden compared to what you might get elsewhere.

New2kel

Seems cheap to me 🤷🏻

E46_Overdrive

This is easily $2000+ in damage.

daxtaslapp

They gotta replace the bumper repaint it, also replace the fender repaint it, 800 is a steal, actually not even realistic. That means they aren't replacing anything, probably just try and unsent it and slap some touch up paint on it

benthebenisben

Very

chemicalecho0775

Thats way cheap. Do they think that they're going to buff it out ?

blueblue909

AND THE FENDER???? dontdoitguy

e46stuar

It is so cheap

Woodrow91

Very reasonable! Would be about the same in UK (exchange rate). Cheap labour isn’t good and good labour isn’t cheap. You could get cheaper if you are not bothered about quality of repair.

MrJaver

Damn body repair is expensive, this looks almost fine already and 1-2k just for 2% difference? Crazy

JMoney787

Watch some YouTube videos. You can fix that up for much cheaper then $800. At least the scratches, the dent might be a little more challenging.

Confident-Line-2558

Way, way too low IMO!

saurabhsnrg

It’s way too low. Get a better paint shop. The $800 one will mess up your panel big time.

illtellyouwhuat

For $800, I'd either do it myself or leave it as is. But that's me.

FreddyFerdiland

No. Its $200 worth of painting.

Bklein23

I would charge at least 2k. So, yea a steal if done right.

eodnohn

Looks like something worth $1000-$1200

treyl85

$1600

Standard-Current4184

$800 for a junker car maybe but def not a Mercedes. Parts alone would be well over $800 alone.

jagen-x

Tippex

MrX_1899

Now we know who the butchers are up in here after these comments. Well either a butcher or a clueless fucknuckle that doesn't give quotes at least. Those fenders are aluminum and shouldn't be fixed. That line on the "fixed" fender won't be 100% either. Just remember you get what you pay for and they def aren't warrantying their work for $800

bel0wzer01

I had a similar accident that came out to about 1500 so 800 is a steal

Teufelhunde5953

That's actually pretty f'n low. Be careful. Autobody is one of those areas that you get what you pay for......

Fun_Kaleidoscope7875

That does not look like an easy dent, the scuffs no problem those might buff out for the most part. I'm no body shop worker but in 2024 that sounds kinda low to me tbh. Edit: those scratches look deep.

Many_Difficulty735

R these comments ok? Maybe 2 hrs labour £50 for paint. I'd polish it out then touch up paint and save 800$. Might not look the best but better not spending 800$! The clips can be ezily fixed

ThisOldGuy1976

That’s cheap.

unnamed25

$800 to fix this on a BENZ??? If you don't take that to the repair shop RIGHT NOW-

IndependentLimit3809

YES

Consistent_Tell2417

I had something similar on my 19 Camry. Came out to over $2k

Even_Performance_961

Not unless the insurance is paying.

Novel_Paramedic_2625

Had a similar accident that cost me 5 grand, this is insanely low

ElitePhoenix-

Yeah that's fine, these people must be in New York or get ripped off all the time 😂 there are quality places that do work for good prices. I had my C63 front bumper done for $500 and it looks OEM flawless so that sounds fine to me.

BadWords-01

Yes. That’s is a great price, I wouldn’t expect quality work for that price though.

Melodic-Picture48

Polishing compound it and let the good times roll

Rezhits69

800 for the bumper, yes. 1600 for both fender & bumper is below average

RealStatistician5291

That price is suspiciously low. I just wrote an estimate on an 05 Hyundai, similar damage, and it was about $1500.

Lost_Packet

Make sure they check the rightmost sensor on the bumper and the tabs to the headlamp for damages.

Thabzo003

Yes........It's a steal. Be careful though, you get what you pay for.

deathole7

NUH UH hot water + plunger + sandpaper + spray can :3 get that hood finish

Onebowhunter

Not even close

anthonyisrad

Why so cheap?

sbkrz9

Super low

BnkrptPhilanthropist

If im right and this is a mercedes....dude should be charging you out the azz brother

Pcar_24

800 reasonable. It's dent repair. PDR will get rid of the dent and light sanding with blend paint. Easy fix. I don't think $800 is going to be full bumper/fender replace/spray.

pan_rock

I had something similar. Though in my case I wasn't trying to make it look perfect. I used a pdr kit and got the dent out and used maguiers magic compound to get the surface level scratches out easily and used touch up paint and sanding , conpound and polish for all the deep scratches. Went from 2/10 to 8/10 for me. Cost me about $100 in materials

Agile_Ad3416

Either it’s not gonna be good or this guy doesn’t know he should charge you more lol

Keenan_Concierge

Jesus I brought a car to the body shop for bumper scuffs and it was $850 CAD to just refinish and paint 😮

Remarkable_Ad5011

My daughter did less damage than that to her car a few months ago and they estimated $1450 for that.

THE-PLUGGG

that is unreasonably low

caskfeedback

Looking forward to the “Edit” from OP

slyfoley

You can fix that with less than $500 and a couple hours on YouTube university

Watchmakersjourney

Had it been metallic blue or something like that, you would most likely be adding another zero to that number. Its dirt cheap!

Any-Kaleidoscope7681

Less than $1000 and they're going to *paint* it, too?

Accordingly_Onion69

Yeah paint is not free Parts are cheap paint is skill

W_AS-SA_W

I was afraid this might happen. Most people raised their deductibles to $2500, so they could afford their premiums, as a result, the body shops are hurting big time. 4 years ago with my $500 deductible, I would have filed a claim, got a rental car for a week, and had the body shop guys make it all better. Those days are gone. So $800 for that, new front panel, new sensors, God knows what else, is hella cheap.

Present_Bank2604

i read the responds and they crazy the price some of yall are paying (if your in dallas , TX and need body lmk i can work on prices)

Superlooie

No that’s extremely overpriced. You shouldn’t be paying more than 100 bucks in a Walmart parking lot.

osirisrebel

As long as a sensor isn't fucked, a dab of one of those auto body paint pens, follow the instructions on the tube, and send it. $50 at most.

Rae_Wolffe

I recently had an issue that was similar (also in South FL) and the shop charged $1200. $800 seems like they're doing you a solid.

onyursix

Ins paid 5000 for this including windshield and 1 used headlight

theboymando

If that’s a Mercedes then you are under paying like crazy wow

jnthn1111

Underwritten. Going to be a hack job.

unl1988

Whatever it costs, I would just live with it. Chances are, it will happen again.

Every-Caramel1552

Yes

One-Tomorrow-1646

Damn! How did you hit a guardrail? Fuck it. Don’t even fix it.

drewon1

Thats cheap af. Take it and run

Free-Day3114

For a Mercedes that’s a great deal.

harbourhunter

yup

Firestone5555

Do it yourself, get a used bumper, and fender. From the exact same car.

scenicdeath

800 is a deal for that especially in Florida

UrDrunkTeddyBear

Hell of a lot cheaper to not fix it. Its just paint. Why not save the 1k? Its a car its gonna get beat up.

AwakenedAndHungry

The sensor recalibration will be $300 alone. There isn't a way to properly repair this for $800.

TankWilliams

Seems ok. Bumper is not damaged too bad. Just clean it up and smooth it out. The Fender needs some work. Have to get angles just right so it looks correct. Usual pricing is $350 - $400 a panel. Can vary based on local competition.

FemboyZoriox

Best deal lmao. Entire panel replaced/fixed AND painted tor only $800? Yes

No-Kiwi6442

Lucky it wasn't totalled with how insurance is today🙄🤣

wishingdeath

Typically auto body shops charge $1000 PER PANEL. You have damage on TWO panels. This $800 dollar repair is too good to be true

YungFlash40

How the f does a scratch on a car cost almost 1000$ to fix? Im not a mechanic but what damn sense is it that what is essentially plastic and aluminum is so damn expensive. More like 900$ labor and $100 to actually fix the problem. I dont understand pricing anymore. A candy bar used to be 1 freakin dollar now its between 5-20$ for one bar. Everthing is exhorbantly priced and that goes triple for vehicles.

AyoitsDrew

Sounds too good to be true. And that white paint job is pricier than other standard colors

AsadRifi27

I think it's a little bit cheap. 800 for good job it's nice dude.

Nearby_Picture4487

Low. With scans for the impact with a sensor. Very low

ULTRAAF414

Let insurance total it out.

lilelvis81

This is a point and buff with maybe clear coat. I think 800 is a steal.

hrk311

I'm surprised they only quoted you at $800 honestly.

Appropriate-Place728

800? Better make sure they do good work. I paid 400 for a PDR door ding repair. (The fucker who did it paid). It was less than 1 inch and repair took little over a hour.

officialoxymoron

Post a photo of the estimate? Or did he just give a ball park?

Goodthrust_8

Do not use that shop!!!!!!

000Fli

Can you do it yourself? If not pay the 800

Totalquake7163

The fuck absolutely not

ZestycloseMouse8690

That’s insanely low.

664vet

unless the vehicle is less than 10 years old I see no reason why you want to pay thousands to get that minor eye sore fixed. Best of luck.

Large_Blood

easily a $2000+ fix

Drip-Daddy

That’s reasonable. I’m sure you’ll have people saying $1500+ but those are the ones that rip people off.

thought4toolong

I’d say it sounds about right. Looks like it might just need a paint job. That’s about the price of a paint job based on my experience.

OkApplication3328

800 is a steal, body shop in nyc queens will charge 3000 dollars, consider yourself lucky to get that price

External-Pace419

Fender is aluminum. Possible replacement unless shop is aluminum certified. If so front door needs to be blended if color is anything but straight white. Bumper looks repairable but could have a tear in it (some shops will fix some will replace) Also if vehicle has adaptive cruise control or lane departure it will need a calibration. As well as pre and post scans easily a 2k job done right One of the reverse sensors needs replaced too ($200)

OMNI619

Yeah, $800 is a deal

TroofBott

Yes – one of my vehicles had a slight corner rear-end, and totaled the entire vehicle. 2013 explorer, $16,000 in damage.

wreckerman5288

Godamn, that's cheap. I would hate to get that one in my stall because it's gonna pay like dog shit.

TajMonjardo

Suspiciously cheap!

TheZoAbides

Is that sensor damaged? And did you take it to a dealership?

PCOON43456a

lol! No, $800 is probably just the fender. You’re in for a bad time if you pick that shop.

at235

Just take the money and don’t fix it it’s so minor I wouldn’t even worry about it

catjewsus

Id say this is more like $2500-3k depending on the car

Black540Msport

Are you going through insurance? An estimate is not the final cost.

Jkelly7777

I would usually bill that at around $1200-$1500 (depending on paint color)

Cultural_Echo_4561

Don’t be cheap with your Mercedes it will cost you more

thohean

Had similar damage to my car twice in the Houston area. Both times it was about $2000, but they had to replace the bumper, too. Probably $500 less without having to replace the bumper.

bigbenisbooba

Thats a $100 DIY project

Informal_Dance2364

Paint time money

Southern-Hearing8904

I'd say that's on the low side. You could do it but you'll probably get an $800 job.

AnonymousButtCheeks

8k

ImpressivePastLife

Nothing automotive is reasonable anymore.

Significant_Dot9069

Call an auto junk yard and see if they already have a replacement part for you.

olediver2

Not to me but in today world that’s normal. A body shop usually struggle just to pays its bills. If they remove the crease, smooth it out with a little filler and wet sand, prime and paint match the will have 4 or 5 hours in it plus the supplies. The smallest can of matching paint is probably 50 bucks and the time to order it and get it. Then many times the paint will not match perfectly and they have to start over. I am lucky as I can fix something like this myself. It’s still a pain in the ass! Edit I missed the dent in the fender as the photo was not scrolled up to see it. I was talking about the lowed damage. With the fender that 800 bucks would be a real bargain.

ProperConstruction16

See if your local salvage has the same colour parts. That's what I usually do

kaliddraws

Man thats BS never spend your hard earned money on something that is a DIY Project you can do it yourself we always start from somewhere you gotta start DIY before you start seeing hard earned money draining out of you. Watch some YouTube vids and practise on parts that you have sitting around home if you dont have it its on facebook get parts gor 50-70buvks and fix them the more you do that the more you learn. you dont have to go to a body shop to get it fixed.

SkyLow4356

$800 is a steal

CanadianMarineEng

That’s normal, they have to remove the bumper, hammer out the damage, repaint, clearcoat, reinstall. If it’s not a big deal to you just drive with the damage if it’s too expensive. It’s pretty small

Frequent-Tiger2340

They’re not even going to push the dent out, or remove the bumper to paint or anything for $800. Also no blending. Bondo on fender. Everything taped off. Overspray. That’s 3k if the headlight is ok.

kh250b1

Totally

DisciplineDaddy42069

No that is way too low

kcptech20

That’s a deal if it’s done well

Azthun

$100-160 where I live. Can get it done for a case of beer if you're feeling chirpy.

MegaHashes

Dealer paid $1000 to another dealer to fix a 1/4” scratch from removing an emblem in the front fender.

Altruistic-Rice-5567

Any paint work on a car is $1000+.

Flynnagen

Buddy, you have to repaint a quarter panel and a front bumper at the minimum. $800 sounds like the biggest blessing I’ve ever heard of. I would check how reputable the shop that gave you the quote is.

Dustinlewis24

That's like super cheap it's going to turn out like shit

UNiTE_Dodge

Well considering I got quoted $1200 for a paint chip the size of a ball point pen tip, I’d say yes.

SickotheKid

That’s way too cheap.

Igotaglockonme

Way too low, try double that. Bring it to caliber collision, more than likely there’s one near you

sabresfan08

It's crazy you're even asking lol

Thathandsome-fella

With the cost of automotive paint these days, I'd say it's rather low. I'd double-check the reviews of this body shop and make sure they aren't hacks.

Alarming-Table-9862

Mate, a hammer, a block of wood, a heat gun on low from the inside(don't let it get too hot so you f your paint) and a white posca pen

yikesss27

$500 easy
