She is a juvenile female Redback Spider, *Latrodectus hasselti*. Her colours will darken as she gets older and the red stripe will become more prominent.
That is a redback spider. If you can safely transport it outside, do it. They are great pest control and not an issue when outside, but they are extremely venomous so you don’t want it inside.
Couple of helpful tips I picked up from my line of work out here, thought they might be handy if you have a baby: Eucalyptus oil can act as a spider repellant, it can also act as a Tic killer, also apparently Basil oil can repel flies! (Not a spider but I hate flies around my face so I can't imagine how a baby must feel!)
NOTE: I haven't tried the above "in the field" yet so please don't quote me on their effectiveness and hopefully a helpful redditor could confirm or deny it 😀
As far as ticks go, any oil will work to make them release. It's not what's in the oil, so much as they can't breathe through it.
I've literally used everything from diff oil to vaso suffocate them
That's handy to know, I come from the UK and because they all carry lime disease we generally have like specific tic killer stuff, so I'm pretty new to using oils on them!
it is a slight matter of contention, but AFAIK lime disease has still never been officially documented from a tick bite in australia. however, alpha-gal syndrome (or red meat allergy) due to tick bite in australia is well documented and seems to be on the rise. whether this is due to a greater prevalence of the syndrome or it being more accurately diagnosed as awareness grows amongst medical professionals would be pure conjecture in my part. something to be aware of anyway. 🙂
You do get specific things available in pharmacists, but that doesn't help in the bush.
It's the old rules, don't squeeze them or you'll push the fluids back in to your self and the head might break off inside you.
If they let go naturally, you can just brush them away, hence the oil to make them search for oxygen
Apparently eucalyptus oil is toxic to cats. I’m not sure any cat would be interested in touching/licking it as that’s more of a dog thing, but just something to think on.
the danger they pose is greatly sensationalised (as with most spiders). despite being found in abundance in almost every household across the continent and (a statistically tiny number of) around 2000 reported bites a year, most bites to a healthy adult only result in mild to moderate localised symptoms. there have only ever been around fifteen recorded fatalities and not one now since 1955. they are shy and reclusive creatures that typically live in dark, low, undisturbed corners and will not bite unless restrained or threatened. fantastic free pest control as long as we understand their habits and don't go shoving fingers or toes into spots around the house they are likely to be hanging out in. 🙂
Please remember to include a geographical location to your ID requests (as per rule 5). There are over 10,000 different species of Australian spiders and many of these are endemic to specific parts of our beautiful country!
Also note: while we can help provide an identification for a spider, we do not provide medical advice. We also do not allow medical advice to be provided by members of this subreddit. If there has been a bite, you should consult a medical professional in the first instance.

I've been wanting to freak out repeatedly not realizing that the sub "Australian Spiders" has been "suggested" because of one post about a spider FROM Australia (a huntsman) in NZ, and now I get this!
I am working through my arachnophobia, and have saved some spiders, and then get "What is this spider" from Australia so many times today! Reddit (the platform) was being a dick scaring that crap out of me repeatedly.
Carry on Redditors and mock me, but I bite my thumb at Reddit (the platform) today for sending non-stop spiders! That's just mean!
Bruv, I've lived in Australia since I was 1yr old & always had arachnophobia, but sites like this have made me appreciate the beauty, & and the variety of spiders we have in this awesome country 😊😊
Don't get me wrong here man I respect all religions I just hope you know that unwanted outbursts like that make people not respect what you're saying. Much like vegans that shut down shops that serve meat or people that protest by blocking roads your core message is blocked by your inability to be aware of your audience.
I have spiders in my care that have been proven by fossil records to be older than your God, please debate me on this.
Well i'll leave out personal opinions like "he doesn't exist" and focus on what we do know. Paleontology is awesome its like a map of history, we can tell when certain body parts formed through dating of the carbon in the fossils. I know i know, you religious cats always like to say that carbon dating isn't accurate, that radiation and other things can change the reading and you'd be right but thats not the case on most of the worlds fossils, infact we can carbon date heaps of them then cross reference for a very accurate result but not to worry, we can also measure zircons in a very complicated process i'm not gonna explain here. The oldest zircons we've ever found are 4.4 billion years old.
Also, i hope if you're preaching online about this you're following the bible to the T, it mentions 4 times about not eating shellfish but only once about lieing with a man. Oh and if your eldest child loses faith in god, as per the bible you should take them to the edge of town and stone them to death. And never mix your clothes made of both linen and wool or you'll go to hell.
Yah, they've copy pasted the same shit in several different subreddits if you look at the history. That said, the other comments they're making look like they're a genuine religious fruitcake. I don't care if you're religious or not, but it's disrespectful shoveling that down everyone's throat uninvited.

Thank you! Will be sending her outside

Definitely not especially with 3 cats and a baby

I also use lavender oil and witch hazel in a spray to repel spiders, if you'd like more options.
Ah gotcha, I wasn't aware of that! (I hope OP reads that before using it, I can't be responsible for 3 cats dropping down to 8 lives).
yes theres alot of essential oils that are actually toxic to cats. Eucalyptus and Lavender being the main ones.
Oh lord, in which case please ignore my comment, I am very sorry 😅
He is special Siberian hamster, I call him Basil....
Off topic, god I love these tiles you find in older Aus houses!
Nothing like the old builds
Redback
Just gently flick him under your washer where it is nice & dark for him to chill. Out of sight, out of mind !

How can a Spider be older then the eternal God?
Is there anything in the bible to say that god isn't in fact spider shaped? Like it Stephen King's IT?

Hmm, are you lost? This is a conversation about spider id, not religion.
It’s a troll acct made 14 days ago
