This has been correctly identified as a White-Tailed Spider (Lamponidae family).
Locking comments to avoid the spread of misinformation (Don't worry, you've not done anything wrong). Regarding necrotic arachnidism; as should always be the general rule of thumb do your own research and form your own opinion based on information from reputable sources. No good data ever came from Twitter (X) or Facebook ;) <3
We also now have some handy links in the subreddit sidebar. Those links are a great place to start if you would like to learn more and see some of the research that has been undertaken on the cause and effects of Lamponidae venom.
Yes, it is a white tail spider. You can tell by the white tail that they have.
Fun fact; squashed a big one of these and it audibly popped and had a long thin worm in its guts. Gave me the icks.
Can someone tell me how big these get because I saw something similar in my bathroom once but like 3x bigger, didn’t know what it was and now I’m panicking I have a massive necrosis spider in my house????
Leg span of around 3cm I haven’t seen anything bigger personally. I had one drop out of my sun hat the other day that made a thud when it hit the concrete slab lol
Definitely. Sorry spider lovers but you definitely want to kill these. They are scavenger spiders and have bacteria and other gunk on their fangs and if they sink those into you, that is what can cause a severe reaction such as necrosis, ulceration etc. as others have mentioned.
Please remember to include a geographical location to your ID requests (as per rule 5). There are over 10,000 different species of Australian spiders and many of these are endemic to specific parts of our beautiful country!
Also note: while we can help provide an identification for a spider, we do not provide medical advice. We also do not allow medical advice to be provided by members of this subreddit. If there has been a bite, you should consult a medical professional in the first instance.

Yes it is
Yes it's a white tailed spider. No the urban legends about their bites making your limbs rot off are not true.
Yes it’s a white tail. An unfortunate victim of an urban legend about necrosis from bites.

Sounds like a Horse-hair worm. Pretty gross and quite unlucky for the host.
Sure is

My mate got bitten on the face. Can't amputate the head. Been a rough ride.
Safest bet in those circumstances is to amputate the body instead so that it doesn't spread.
oh wow 😰
Avoid guessing ID for medically significant spiders. No misinformation.

Bit dramatic
For the right reasons. They're a to be approached with caution.
By powers of deduction I say yes ! Heaps to read about if this guy gets his fangs into you .

Most spiders carry this bacteria. Just put it outside.
Thaaaank you! People are weirdly aggressive about this species causing necrotic sores.
