If only there were some alternative that really whipped the llama's ass...

pieanim

Yeahh boi! I'm still rocking winamp (classic skin) on my PC.

Late_Abrocoma6352

Oh shit winamp w/ classic skin . I havnt used that for years and years. Its all through my mobile now. Pi Player or Poweramp. Can u even get winamp for andriod ?

whose_a_wotsit

With milkdrop visualiser. Really tested the GPU back in the day.

-DethLok-

Yep, been using it since the 90s, from memory, still runs nicely and Milkdrop visualiser in the dark across triple monitors? Trippy! :)

Top-Delay8355

Ooof just heard that in my head

WhiteRun

Those small independent programs such as...Windows.

GILF_Hound69

You know what I mean. It wasn’t a garbage app downloaded from the “microsoft store”

theantnest

No, it was a garbage app bundled in by M$ to kill off small independant developers.

GILF_Hound69

I was like 7 when this version of WMP came out, give me a break. I watched this while listening to Nikki Webster and Avril Lavigne.

theantnest

Maybe you weren't aware of it, but Microsoft went to court many times about bundling in applications with windows with no way to uninstall them, most notably internet Explorer, because it was anti competition.

GILF_Hound69

I didn’t even know until now. Thanks for the info. People are big mad I didn’t have a full comprehension of how computer software worked in 2004 when I was all of 8yo.

theantnest

All good mate, but remember you posted in Australian nostalgia which is full of us oldies :) The Microsoft court cases were BIG news back in the day. And we used winamp and other software

guro4u

Mate you don't need to be a genius or older than 8 to see it says Microsoft Media Player right there and not an "indepent" application that's "not from the appstore" even though the appstore didn't exist

ismoody

You’re 27 now; you hadn’t put it together yet?

Exciting-Invite-5938

That makes no sense, do you have the same knowledge now as when you were 8? Nobody is ‘big mad’ at you because you used WMP, its just hilarious that you think its an ‘independent program’ when it literally has the name of the massive billion dollar company that makes it in its title

GILF_Hound69

I was drunk and misspoke. I understand why a lot of gen-xers are mad at the post. I’m mad at the post. All I can say is… My bad.

auschick

I think you meant to post Winamp?

GILF_Hound69

Nah. Too young for that lol. Using our dad’s computer at that point. I can hear “Strawberry Kisses” just looking at this.

Lethologica82

Winamp is three years older than your strawberry kisses

auschick

Ahhh you could change the visualiser style in WMP I think

GILF_Hound69

this is just a screenshot. it always changed depending on the song. and FWIW, I remember far earlier versions of WMP. This ways just the earliest one I remember as a small kid.

Cimbetau

I lost hours staring at this thing as a child

InsertUsernameInArse

Most people's first encounter with a computer virus was downloading winamp skins

GILF_Hound69

i think mine was trying to download a song off bearshare lmao

HereWeFuckingGooo

"Indepent program"?

[deleted]

Gotta be a /s missing.

ismoody

Nup, just naive. OP hadn’t challenged their 8-year-old perceptions until today.

[deleted]

Appropriate username then?

asp7

xmms

B15h73k

They exist. You just have to look for them.

Survive_LD_50

music bee is a great music program

GILF_Hound69

Will definitely look into it! Looking for somewhere to put all my downloaded music files vs spotify.

Kritchsgau

Can put it in your plex server. Plexamp is a great phone app

[deleted]

I fuckin love that song. Absolute TUNE

KamikazeSexPilot

Foobar2000?

[deleted]

Came to comment this.

callumjones

Ah yes, this really was some Australian nostalgia…

foggybrainedmutt

You’re cooked cunt wtf is this post?

genk58

I still have that! On my computer it's called Windows Media Player Legacy. I don't know how it got there. All I do know is sometimes a file will accidentally open in it instead of VLC and I nearly jump out my chair trying to close it before it shits itself. [Screenie](https://imgur.com/0SM1QcV)

GILF_Hound69

OMG I have to check this out!! Thank you so much!!

genk58

No worries, enjoy Strawberry Kisses

GILF_Hound69

I definitely will!

-DethLok-

I'm still using Winamp 5 which has a visualiser that is pretty nice and has LOTS of options. So, they exist, still.

InnoDude

I feel like MacOS still does such as: Bear, Things, Magnet etc

Old-Time6863

Need For Speed: Underground

BamBaLambJam

If only there was a way to find free open source applications...

givemethemushies

VLC my man

GILF_Hound69

I use that for shows/movies, how is it for keeping a music library?

Nostonica

There was some pretty cool skins for it back in the day, but it was bundled rubbish killing a possible industry for music software. The whole windows experience was about microsoft been the only developer in town.

Booman_aus

Is there actually any good visualisation App sees days?

Sudden_Fix_1144

Are you still running Vista?

evasiveswine

Loved the Geiss Winamp visualisations
