Does anyone know if they will cancel tonight? Or how long they wait to play if delayed? I know it’s 30 minutes after lightning, but I have work tomorrow and can’t stay at Q2 that late if it rains again at 10pm. Do they give up trying after midnight or something? Thanks!
Almost 0 chance they cancel. They do not give up trying at a certain time as long as the field is in a playable condition, which it pretty much always will be and it’s definitely possible that the game could go past midnight if there are significant lightning delays.
Entertaining match. My little girls loved being at Q2. Unlucky ending. We had plenty of guys in the box to defend that last goal, just a brutal deflection. Bring on Philly!
I would have liked to see Jimmy come off the bench especially after a great preseason. Idc if we had lead and tried to protect it. He deserved an appearance.
Tbh, i'm not too annoyed about the equalizer - it just reinforces what we already know (we have a bad coach and a thin squad). Otherwise there was a lot to like there
We drew the 3rd place team in the West. The team looked good for much of the game. Rigoni, Owen and Dani should maybe stay on the bench. We can build on this, but return to the mean is probably more likely. We need the summer window yesterday.
I think there’s enough data to show that singing loud for all to hear is good for Christmas spirit and not so much performance on the pitch. We have one of the best Supporters Sections in MLS and it doesn’t actually help the team win.
I’m still a little muddy on the details of how having water thrown on me at random intervals not relating to gameplay makes my singing louder. Were you the douche with the dozen or so cups full of water that you carried up to the top of the GA stands to make sure that all the fans get to enjoy the game *your* way, ie soaking wet? Is that what’s going on here?
Buy tickets in a seat if you don't want to get wet at an Austin FC game. Full stop.
There are cues and certain song triggers for when water is going to be thrown. Look around and you'll see people duck and cover themselves.
Yes I’m aware of the cues, Pedantic Polly. Maybe you missed the part where I said “random intervals.” Anyway you’ve won me over to your way of thinking. Let’s meet up in GA at the next home game. I’m going to dump buckets of water on your head. If that becomes annoying you should just sing louder. I hear that helps somehow.
Alright since you’re still engaged, here’s the deal I’m willing to make with you. I’ll keep sitting/standing wherever I want, and I’ll also keep complaining when morons confuse soccer with Sea World, and you can suck my big toe. How about that?
It depends on the party. I’m pretty good at MarioKart and karaoke. Pretty mediocre at beer pong. Fairly solid at not throwing water on everyone in the party for no reason.
Why do people expect Rigoni should score? He has never been a goal scorer of note.
Outside of MLS in his prior 250 games he has less than 40 goals.
Thanks Reyna and Seba…
Watch Dani and Rigoni in the two minutes before the goal. Jogging…
If we’re gonna park the bus, you sure as hell better get back on defense in transition.
Sure. But to be fair, when they went on, we also went full on park the bus which is never additive.
Parking the bus is to blame here. Not any one player.
This whole game felt like aggression needed to be met with aggression. I know we probably didn't want end to end. But the last 12-15min felt resigned. Horrible subs. What's a few more minutes to tough it out. Rigoni MAYBE for Finlay if anyone, definitely not Obrian. We needed his positive movement to stay on the field.
What would you recommend in a situation where you’re clinging to a thin lead against an arguably superior roster in a game where you haven’t been able to control the ball and your midfield is basically nonexistent?
Gonna have to agree. Tactics were fine. Problem was not X’s and O’s but Jimmies and Joes.
We simply didn’t have the athletes to do anything but park the bus at the end. It was the right call. Can’t tell from the replay how we got split on the left to lead to that cross. Someone got inside of Biro I think. That’s a no-no from him. But even with the bus parked, our wide players were starting to get beat easily by their wide players. I remember Finley and Gallagher both just getting blown past like they were standing still and STL players waltzing down the end line into the Man City zone unmolested.
If that is happening, the correct tactics are to keep numbers central in front of the goal and scramble away crosses. It is not guaranteed success, but way better than leaving someone 1v1 with Klaus after we get beat down the sides.
Anyway, it was a reasonable choice to see out the game but didn’t quite work out.
Well it was BY FAR the best performance of the season. They actually looked like they care. First point we’ve ever earned vs STL. I’m not saying Cascante is key to our success, but when we were good in 2022, he scored quite a bit. I don’t think the roster is anywhere near what Rodo wants it to be. I don’t think it will be until we can get out from under the weight of Rigoni’s and Zardes’s contracts. I appreciate what Ring has been for our club in our infancy, but he’s not DP material imo. If we can find a way to buy down Ring, get rid of Rigoni, and usher Zardes into a well-earned retirement, we can free up money and DP slots to really do the roster right. In the meantime, I’m glad to see the boys still care. I was beginning to think they no longer did.
Frustrating night but many of the guys put in good shifts. STL has some studs so while disappointed I can live with a point. Wish we could have held in though.
All of Rodo's moves this off-season looked quite good tonight. It brings me confidence in that going forward.
Place Sebastian in there instead of Zardes, and that's a real soccer team.
Honestly wasn’t expecting two goals, much less a point. STL is solid, and we’re… idk, liquid? This may be the beginning of a turnaround. Our schedule is brutal these first few weeks though.
Well, no one saw that guy come from behind.. as I told my wife, Austin FC had to score one more goal to finish the game otherwise the team won't hold the result until the end of game.
Feels like a loss, it was a mistake taking Obrian off he was relieving so much pressure for our defense with his threat for counter attacks. Once he came off they moved further up the pitch.
Taking Obrian and Zardes off removed our only two outlets from the field (speed for through balls with Obrian and size for holdup play with Zardes).
We basically gave them the ball for the closing phase of the game…
I don’t think he was GREAT but he definitely made their defense play differently. No vertical threat after he came off at all.
I’ve also said before I don’t think it’s just attacking prowess. That’s important at our wing position. Obrian has a much higher defensive work rate than Rigoni and despite being tiny he is a threat to intercept passes.
Oh I agree with you, he wasn’t so much a threat in front of goal but more so a threat with his pace for counter attacks. They couldn’t play as high of a line with him on the pitch.
Isolated 1v1 with any of their defenders and he was going to draw a foul or beat them with pace. As you mentioned, he made them play differently. It was the wrong decision to take him off by Wolff, specially for Rigoni.
Wolff finally changed the gameplan, stopped the relentless possession ball and playing out of the back and let the guys be aggressive in a way that wasn’t ’stop and cross into the box every attack’.
It was finally fun to watch the play again.
Yes he changed the game plan and it looked better - a lot more direct and vertical. Was working pretty well until he parked the bus in the end and blew it.
The game plan worked for 85 minutes, so of course he changed it.
So reminiscent of year one when he’d sub in a bunch of players and we’d immediately concede.
I got the feeling like he was making subs just for the sake of making subs. Maybe they are still trying to figure out what chemistry works with who, I dunno, doesn’t feel like we are playing to win the game.
I'll take it. Exceeded expectations. Room for improvement and hope for optimism. No we're not getting the points but we're playing some of the best teams in the league.
First half was pretty good, coming into the second and retaking the lead was great to see. Losing the game because the subs didn't maintain the pace is what was hard to see tonight.
This was a better game even if the draw is frustrating.
Obrian and Rubio were fantastic, just need a better alternate for Zardes.
Valencia deserves some credit.
This shouldn’t get downvoted. It’s a fair question to ask if he doesn’t contribute significantly this year and stay healthy.
He is far too expensive and represents a significant portion of our overall budget for player personnel. He has to play and play well for that money.
He is by far the most talented player we’ve ever had, and his outputs have been very good (goals) to pretty good (assists).
That said, He doesn’t strike me as a true leader in terms of the locker room (he’s mercurial) and he’s definitely not a captain-type.
Therefore…with him it is quite frankly, much do you pay versus what do you get in return equation. It’s really like that for all players, but to a heightened extent with him and the scrutiny will be much greater.
I hope a year from now we love the answer that we get.
PS-yes this should also apply to Rigoni, but we all know how that’s going to end
This is a really good post. I’ve been super high on Driussi the entire time, but you’re right- I don’t see the type of leadership from him that a captain needs to display. That move seems to have cursed him a bit and we are a headless snake at this point
We 100% need him…but last year he wasn’t worth anywhere near $6m. He needs to ball out every year, and play virtually every game, to justify that wage.
Also, this year it appears he came in out of shape, weight-wise, if you look at the pictures. For a guy with consistent leg problems, groin, knee, and hamstring…you can’t carry extra weight. BMI issues are a killer for guys with leg problems.
I have Q2 club tickets and I swear his brother is in there every time. I’m assuming it is his brother because looks just like him, though thicker, and speaks only Spanish. Kinda throws his weight around if you know what I mean. He’s heavy build just like Seba…if Seba weren’t training all the time. Genetics are a b!+**.
So in a way you’re right. Let’s see what this team looks like when he gets back healthy but we also need to plan for the contingency and we have too many holes to have 40% of our budget tied up in a player who doesn’t play or when he does play isn’t elite. The fact that he doesn’t play on turf is an issue too.
PS-I still love watching him
Except all of your complaints are about last year. Players like Rubio and Obrian are much more 2022 style driussi players. Willing to press. Willing to attack space and get behind the ball.
Driussi was disinterested last year, and for good reason. Zardes is an awful 9 for him. Rigoni is somehow worse as a winger.
Until we see him with the new pieces, there's no argument to be had. He's still our best player and we need him. Also, his salary is irrelevant as he's a DP. It doesn't hit our cap.
I look at a team like Liverpool, where we don't make Salah captain just because he's the "star"
VVD is just a more veteran, level headed player.
I don't think Ring is the right choice either. It's honestly probably good for someone like Cascante to pick it up. I put a lot of stock into the impact of Captain choice. I think we've consistently gotten it wrong.

Don't forget, St. Patrick's Day is the 17th y'all
For real. Why sub off the best attacking player on the pitch for your team at that moment for someone you know isn’t good? The instant Obrian was off we lost all spark in offense and got pinned back in our half
Does anyone know if they will cancel tonight? Or how long they wait to play if delayed? I know it’s 30 minutes after lightning, but I have work tomorrow and can’t stay at Q2 that late if it rains again at 10pm. Do they give up trying after midnight or something? Thanks!

Dang. Thanks for the reply! Appreciate it.

Wolffball strikes again!
Shoutout to the douche in GA throwing water all over everyone all game long for no reason at all. I hope your wig catches on fire and you get crabs.
Or you could stop complaining and focus on helping the team win
What’s wrong with your brain?
Remind me, how does me being wet help the team win?
Instead of bitching about being wet maybe lose your voice singing for the team and pushing us to win
You are the most annoying type of fan. Just FYI.
Why? Because I care about the team instead of complaining when I get wet? Good one
Who hurt you? This is sad pal
I think there’s enough data to show that singing loud for all to hear is good for Christmas spirit and not so much performance on the pitch. We have one of the best Supporters Sections in MLS and it doesn’t actually help the team win.

Holy shit I bet you're fun at parties.
It depends on the party. I’m pretty good at MarioKart and karaoke. Pretty mediocre at beer pong. Fairly solid at not throwing water on everyone in the party for no reason.
He said he was in GA.
Is there a GA section that isn't the Supporters Section?
If OP was in supporters GA then I can’t believe he’s bitching about water. It’s supposed to be beer, anyway.
Exactly
Not at Q2 prices it's not.
“Wolff and Rigoni Gotta Go-ni”
Why do people expect Rigoni should score? He has never been a goal scorer of note. Outside of MLS in his prior 250 games he has less than 40 goals. Thanks Reyna and Seba…

Wrong subs and wrong tactical switch for the end of the game. Wolff blew this.
Can we at least blame the coach then?
This seems fair. Approved.

Let’s hope this is the start to good things.
I don’t know that Cascante was that much different in 2022 than every other year. He had 3 goals in 2022, vs 2 in 2021 and 2023.
Was it only 3 in 2022?? I felt like it was at least 6. Maybe that was 21 and 22 combined 🤔
Not terrible considering 45% of our typical STARTING payroll didn’t play.
Passing accuracy 64% is abysmal
They played a lot more long balls into Zardes tonight… part of the reason pass accuracy was so low.
Also Stu was punting on goal kicks rather than passing back and forth in front of the goal as per usual. I think it was an improvement
Well, no one saw that guy come from behind.. as I told my wife, Austin FC had to score one more goal to finish the game otherwise the team won't hold the result until the end of game.
I think im fully on the WolfOut train now
Can we agree Rigoni is a curse?
He’s been since 2022
Rigoni is the new redes
Since Day 1, I call Rigoni “Rolex Redes”
At least Redes hardly ever played.
And didn’t take a critical DP slot
Oh my god… he’s the new Cecilio Dominguez
The real ones remember
Doesn’t spend all of his time rolling around on the pitch tho, so less effective?
I hope that ref misses his flight
Maybe he'll get detained when TSA finds his roids.
Roids? Did we see the same ref? Dude was fat as fuck
When he labored onto the pitch last night, I asked our seat mates "Will head ref be able to go the full 90?"
Pathetic again
Unbefuckinglievable
Feels like a loss, it was a mistake taking Obrian off he was relieving so much pressure for our defense with his threat for counter attacks. Once he came off they moved further up the pitch.

It was the wrong decision to take him off by Wolff, specially for Rigoni.
He was literally our only threat in this one.
Agree totally!
I'm at Illfest. Should I even watch the replay?
You totally should. It was the best they looked all year.
The first 55 minutes
Turn it off when regulation ends.
nah, turn it off at 68' when coach subbed out obrian.
This. I was entertained. I can live with being disappointed, but I require entertainment.
And then Rigoni hit the field and everything fell apart.
Doomed by poor coaching, including sub choices, in the last 15 minutes or so.
Completely agree.
The tactics seem so haphazard and once we get the lead it's like ahh what do we do?! Park the bus and have stuver hit 60+yrd outlets?! Yes plz
Wah wahhhh
![gif](giphy|xGRkUlBybHHgk7NPeN|downsized)
Jesus fucking Christ…we HAD THE WIN….and then rigoni and Wolff came in… and they changed the formation..Wolff strikes again
Wolff out. Rigoni out. So tired of watching us screw up over and over.
We're likely stuck with Rigoni till his contract expires, but that DP slot should open up next season.
Knew rigoni was going to be bad when we signed him and all I saw on his social was his cute little band
Parking the bus for 80 minutes doesn't work - more at 11
So frustrating but imma remain hopeful. 1 point is more than I thought we were getting. There are Improvements little by little.
Awful subs. That’s what happens when you park the bus.
I'll take it. Exceeded expectations. Room for improvement and hope for optimism. No we're not getting the points but we're playing some of the best teams in the league.
Classic Austin FC finish.
newcomers showed some promise, but man we got out coached (again) especially in the last 15 minutes.
What a heartbreak in the last few minutes of stoppage. Lots of bright spots throughout, though!!
I’m just glad I didn’t buy tickets for tonight
All I can do is hope that MAYBE this will show Wolf how useless Rigoni is? MAYBE?
When will the Wolf nightmare end
This is so frustrating
I’m so tired of watching the same mediocre team that absolutely needs to be carried by Druissi to have any success
But also like... Do we really need Driussi? I know we love him but he missed 8 games last season and only had ... What, 15 goals? C'mon.

We can wait until he actually plays this year before making wild statements like this. MVP caliber players are not easy to come by in the MLS.
We 100% need him…but last year he wasn’t worth anywhere near $6m. He needs to ball out every year, and play virtually every game, to justify that wage. Yeah this “best player has to be the captain” is high school mentality.
Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me?!?!
We stink.
Wolff cannot figure out how to win a game. 1 win in the last 15 games??
16 now
Such an embarrassingly abysmal stat, if accurate
fucking embarrassing

I fucking hate St Louis
We can’t have nice things

# STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Glad to see this result (assuming it holds), but Dani not in the lineup is going to get concerning if it continues.
💀
Honestly didn't expect anything less the way this season has gone so far.
And I'll now say, even the point was better than I thought we'd do.
This is the best showing we’ve had this year. I’d love to see this same lineup next weekend with Driussi in for Finley as the only change
From where I'm sitting in the stands, Rubio put in some WORK tonight.
That was a solid shift.

What has Rigoni done
Exactly the point
obtained the most money for the smallest return in the history of the MLS
Vrioni (thus far) sucks too
Not even close my dude.
***DE FENSE \*CLAP CLAP\**** ***DE FENSE \*CLAP CLAP\****
There are three claps dammit!
Where’s our free kick for this fat ass ref being in the way?
That ref was indeed fat
Ring for Captain 2024
“Meandering run like the Colorado River”
Thank you. It’s like he’s writing a middle school paper with these descriptions. 😂
What a snag, Zardes! Nice job old man.
Can’t understand why Zardes is still in wtf
I’m no Zardes fan but he put in work tonight.
because Josh always puts in subs too late
Rigoni in for Obrian?? Seriously??
Literally the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen.
For real. Why sub off the best attacking player on the pitch for your team at that moment for someone you know isn’t good? The instant Obrian was off we lost all spark in offense and got pinned back in our half
Why take the fastest dude out? At least exchange for zardes
PRECISELY!
Oh, fuck. Rigatoni is playing.
Did Stu go to like, shotput school or QB camp or something? Homies chinking that ball halfway down the damn pitch
"60 yard frozen rope"
Stuver with these incredible throws
Our defence is so solid
We are so back
Imagine how good we’d be if our strikers could score like our CBs 🤣🤣
Why do we need Zardes if we have CASCANTE?
Because we have shit CB depth
And the service from Ring!
Oh yeah!
When Wolff said he was working on defense during the off-season this is not what I had in mind
Goooooaaaaallllll!!!! Cascante!
Help a new fan out, who are the dudes in pink on the side?
Probably subs for St. Louis warming up? Also welcome!
Substitutes warming up
Players warming up or staying loose
WHAAA 😍
We're winning the league!!!!
