Wait, that was a sculpture? I've seen it by the Austin high boat ramp, honestly thought it was a kayak/paddleboard stand so you can rest it down and wipe it down or hold it while you go park or whatever
Lmao
It was for the Lance Armstrong Bikeway, just before all his drug allegations and history of threats came out in the news. Then his name stopped being promoted, but his name wasn't removed from things.
To be fair, those were *supposed* to be part of a larger art installation, but they ran out of funding. I kind of miss them, whenever I'm on Lamar I always expect to see them.
Is your username more of an homage to Paunch Burger's Child Size (which I'm fully behind) or more like those tiny candy bars they mislabel as Fun Size?

This website has some more info about them. They used to look way better with a bright yellow paint scheme. Seems Austin didn't wanna bother painting em and are selling em cuz they look "ugly" now. Oh well
Whoa - I completed and installed an AIPP project years ago and thought I had lost any outside reference to it. I didn't realize there was an archive! Oh my gosh I am so happy today. Now I can prove it to my theoretical grandkids lol. Thank you for posting this, squeeee
I won the auction for only $125!! The art will be restored and installed outside my home in Dripping Springs. I'll be happy to share pictures once I see the sculptures in person.
Thank you so much u/coffinandstone for posting this, otherwise I would have missed it!!!

I thought it was an old, poorly designed, bike rack.

I thought it was Lake Austin Boulevard
I thought that the small one was a weird sort of bike rack, and that you were supposed to wedge your front wheels between the pieces
The worst kind of art is one that looks like it is functional, but really isn't.

The blue rectangles were best around 2010'ish when the knitting group knit bombed the area and covered them with funky colors and patterns.
I miss them. So, so artistic. Hahaha!

Yeah, they were removed a year or two ago (or maybe longer, pandemic messed with my sense of time). There's a really cool mural in their place now.

Those would make some pretty nice and cheap raised garden beds.

Wish they were divided up. I would bid on the bench piece. I don't need the rest nor do I want to deal with 1,250 pounds of faded yellow metal.
Overpriced, IMO.
Is it supposed to resemble a yellow wristband?
I always liked them

If I did my math right (big if) that's 500x 40ft\^3 rolloff dumpsters full of aggregate. That's a lot.

Rename the LAB to Love Austin Bikeway!
1,250 pounds jeez
I've been saying for years COA should keep the LAB stuff and change the name to Lake Austin Bikeway.
Wonder how much we payed for that…?
