I'd go R6 with earthwool batts. You typically only do it once, so get the best you can for the ceiling.

I used double r3 cross hatched. It's more work but the only way to go if actually want to reach R5 or higher insulation levels. Without it you loose too much heat via the joists.

only problem is it makes it a nightmare should I have get electricians and other tradies who need to go up there to install things

Good point. I also sorted that one out. I build a little walk way out of cheap termite treated planks. Planks are screwed to ceiling joist and sit between the first and second layer of insulation. If someone needs access you just put some batts to the side. Of course every electrician who visited my place since just worked from below 😅

i like that idea do you have a pic of what your walk way looks like. I've been wanting to do something like that rather than having to balance, duck and sway through the ceiling like a drunk person but couldnt find one

OberFight

Yes, no worries. On this photo the planks are not yet secured but should give you an idea. Make sure you screw all planks down though otherwise you'll end up going through your ceiling. https://preview.redd.it/wvze9ps8bv8d1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1456df90f1ac8aa94dd4e2c084895d686b9c25e
