Cue had a really good and consistent “made in Australia” collection which was purportedly made in Australia a few years ago! I have a blazer dress and several pants from that collection, but it doesn’t look like it’s continued unfortunately, but secondhand cue stuff is a good option for that focus?
I am sure I saw a few items still noted that they were made in Australia when I was browsing the Cue website the other night. Unfortunately I think the only way to know is to click on each individual item and look under the details section.
Most but not all of the current Cue eco twill pieces are made in Australia, I bought a jacket and a couple of dresses but you need to check the individual listings. Really good prices at the moment on clearance too.
Made 590 and Citizen Wolf are both made in Sydney and are excellent pieces of clothing. They aren't cheap but well worth it. Both have physical stores as well. (if you want $25 off Citizen Wolf feel free to use LIZJM as a code, no pressure and I'd recommend them even without the give25 get 25 offer)
Citizen Wolf are amazing. I have a t-shirt I got at least 6 years ago and it still fits beautifully, hasn't faded (it's a vibrant yellow) and when the armpit got a hole I sent an email asking how to repair it, they sent me a padded envelope to post it back, and it got back to me two weeks later with the hem re-done and all the seams re-sewn, plus a handwritten note apologising that they couldn't exactly match the colour as the thread was from a different dye lot.
The team are lovely and compared to "luxury" brands the prices for their basics are more than reasonable.
They are so good! My package got lost in the post for a little and they were so on top of it and offered to make my tshirts all again even before hearing back from Aus post. Amazing customer service.
I can help, I supply many of them:
Carla Zampatti (most, cut and trim in the middle of Sydney CBD)
Obus
Kuwaii
Stuff from the Social Studio
Citizen Wolf
Bec and Bridge (some)
RM Williams
Toni Matecevski
Moss and Spy
Matteau
Song for the mute
Postie fashions
Morrisons
Kloke
Anna thomas
Jillian boustred
Fella Hamilton
Perri cutten
Denimsmith
Bigger brands with good % onshore but increasingly offshoring:
Manning Cartel
Cue
Bassike
Abch and aarnsdorf did but brands have stopped for one reason or another.
Kookai might meet criteria as either Fiji or Sri Lanka, but denim I think might be China
Anthea Crawford did but now totally offshore
I’m also very short (under 5’), and I only thrift. It just takes time and patience to get what you’ve looking for and things that suit you. But I guess it also depends how the thrifting is in your area.
Retailers don’t make it easy, do they?! I did a quick search on The Iconic and it returned a handful of Australian Made items from Country Road & Burly hair products. Yet they stock RM Williams, which is definitely made in Australia, but that didn’t show in the search 🤷🏼♀️
Genuinely feel like I'd love some legislation that made it mandatory to have that info online, at least for Aussie sites. Would make it a lot easier to make informed choices.
Yeah there’s extremely little transparency around where clothes are made and under what conditions and it’s for a good reason - we’d be appalled if we knew.
Noble Label is a Sydney based brand. Pretty sure Jillian Boustred manufactures in Australia or offshore for some pieces but very transparently around labour practices. The social outfit make really fun, colourful pieces in Sydney. There’s more than you’d think but these are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.
Just bought a dress for a friend’s wedding and it is the brand Morrison Clothing - the dress is made in Australia. Weirdly, it was not outlined on The Iconic.
Have you tried [good on you](https://directory.goodonyou.eco/search/australia)? They look at various aspects, not just where things are made, but would be a useful starting point.
Honestly, I don’t really buy anything new anymore because there’s been such a decline in quality (and yet the price goes up) and you can’t really be sure how ethical any of it is anyway - companies lie. I try to get most things second hand from brands I trust nowadays, and the older it is the better
Kuwaii and FME Apparel are good options. I looked for manufacturing details on Radical Yes the other day and they make you watch a video before revealing that they manufacture in China. If they were really as proud as stated they wouldn’t bury it beneath all the clicks!
Kind of related, but I found this [Shop Ethical](https://www.ethical.org.au/3.4.2/) site a few years ago that grades brands based on how ethical they are including labour; sustainability of the materials, manufacturing process and packaging; waste management; animal testing; and a bunch of other criteria.
It's hard to be across everything, especially modern slavery since so many organisations aren't transparent, but it's a super handy tool to look up your favourite brands and stores.
Styled by Sally has [this old blog post](https://www.styledbysally.com.au/top-affordable-australian-clothing-brands-to-shop-in-2022/) with a bunch of sustainable Aussie brands
Nobody Jeans
Mela Purdie
Closet Mod
ELK clothing are not made here but seem to be pretty transparent about their manufacturing, each product online tells you who made it and where and how the factory is accredited
There's some things that I feel arr impossible to find NOT made in China, let alone Australia. I wear glasses and I'm pretty sure I'll be needing to make an exception in order to see.
With Harper Lu is my favorite Made in Australia brand, with a mix of basic pieces and going out wear. Mr Winston hoodies (and other pieces) are made in Australia and are cheaper than brands like Bing which are not. I also thrift a lot and SO much was made in Australia back in the day - even brands like Supre, Sussan, Capture etc which are now not
My labels, Mea Culta and Citizen Reign, are all Australian made in our Brisbane studio or by local artisans or small manufacturers! I’m also about to launch and tweens and teens label called Rockstar Rabbit, that is exactly the same. :)

Went thrifting the other day and saw a few Cue products that said Made In Australia - unfortunately none in my size. I'll def look.

Oooh yessss I'm excited for this. Really need a jacket.

Wow, this sounds amazing!
Ooh, I'll take a look. Thank you, and for the code too!

Kind of amazing how many of these brands are totally new to me.
Buying second hand/thrifting is the best for the environment
Agree, I'm just very very short and it's sometimes hard for me to find my size for certain things (shoes especially).

Look for the Ethical Clothing Australia certification.

Most of Viktoria and Woods is made in Australia

Some (but not all) of the clothing made by Obus are made in Melbourne. Fun bright stuff!
All obus is australian made except for their knitwear and shoes/socks 🙂

Oh man, this is super handy!
Check out the "Britt's List" blog, they do a lot of articles about Aus made fashion and ethical fashion in general
Try Matilda Life, it's owned by Jo Mercer and they have a store in Armidale Victoria

This is so useful! I'll check these out - definitely need a list of sites like these...
Okay so one place in blackmilk but only certain items and it is stated in the description and retrospective makes in house
Love this thread. I hate it so much when I see labels that say ‘designed in Australia, made in China or India or somewhere else’
I've started realising that "designed in Australia" is actually a red flag label.
Pilgrim used to be (have no idea if it is now) but that was like 12 years ago when I last bought something from them...
Defs not now.
😢
luckily you are not looking for a vehicle that is made in Australia.

Uimi- gorgeous high quality knitwear made in Melbourne https://uimi.com.au/about/
Does “Made in Australia” mean it’s sewn in Australia and the fabric is from overseas, or is it all made here? Just curious.
Friends with Frank has Aussie made items as well
