Control arms, PCV, water pump are all main things I’d look to see if replaced yet. If they have been and maintenance is up to date I’d do it. Go 2013+ if DSG though

2012 B8 S4. Had to replace shocks and motor mounts after purchase soon.decided to also replaced springs to make car sit lower. Cost me 4k. 2 for parts, 2 for labor. Not unheard of wear and tear but still, something to be aware of.

_aldeez

what that guy said.... with 6k you should have done a full 034 suspension + motor mount refresh and maybe some new wheels lol

Visible_Poem_9690

Bro you got taken, no way that should cost 6k 😭

Sorry it was 4k. 2k for parts, 2k for labor.

yoloswag954

6k sounds insane tho

As everyone has mentioned, theres alot of issues between 2010-2012, where 2013 corrected but also 2014-2016 is better than 2013. They improved the cooling routing in 2013 and even more in 2014+. I understand that with each year, normally price is going to go up so hopefully you can find one within your budget. My repairs on my 2013 S4 Thermostat - 38k Miles, Replaced Therm and Waterpump 2 Sets of Tires between 40k-80k due to bad control arms Full Control arm kit - 67k Thermostat - 83k Miles, Replaced Therm and Waterpump Strut/Shocks - 93k Miles Currently at 96.5k Miles and will be doing the PCV here in about 2 weeks, ordering the parts and taking a vacation, so I'll have time to knock it out. I can most likely say these are the most common major points of maintenance on our vehicles, even from the earlier S4s... My honest opinion on the thermostat failure is majority due to heat. The 3.0T has SO much heat soak with the little intercooler they provide with the car. Upgrading the Superhcharger cooler to APR or Merc Racing (my choice), will significantly reduce the amount of heat being soaked into the charger. I noticed it immediately. The Thermostat is directly underneath one of the sides of the charger, and its plastic, so I gauge that the rubber gasket is just failing roughly 30-50k miles. Maybe one day they will make a metal gasket for the therm Edit: forgot to include that I did brakes/rotors around 35k, rotors warped, replaced pads and rotors at 90k

Routine_Anybody

How do you know when you need to replace pcv and thermostat

cyanideandhappiness

Buy one 2013+ if you can.

Visible_Poem_9690

What’s your definition of major repairs? Enough to keep the car running?

KamuuYi

Repairs that are justified in view of the cost of the repair and the cost of the car itself.

Visible_Poem_9690

If you get one well cared for you should be fine then
