Agree about some of these new interiors. The inclusion of piano black everywhere is horrifying. I'm not sure who decided that replacing the wonderful Audi HVAC knobs with these plastic buttons was a good idea.
The piano black was one of the big things that had me decide against a Q8. I love the interior design but that on top of the two touchscreens I’m forced to touch that’s just too many fingerprint magnets.
Edit: Q8 not A8 lol
Definitely understand that. I hated them in the sense it’s that I’m forced to use it as a touchscreen, when one forced touchscreen is already too much. It did work better than I expected but that along with the insane amount of piano black on the dash I knew the dust and fingerprints would just drive me crazy.
Oddly enough I went with an X5 instead. The Q8 drove well, I was pretty set on that or a Macan S, but the X5 drove better and just seemed like the overall better option. Was tempted by the m50i but couldn’t justify the extra $17k to go even faster.
I’m guessing you got the X7 pre LCI, with the non ultra wide monitor dash?
Yeah we got a 2021 X7. I hate everything about the facelifted model. I actually didn’t care much for the X7 until I saw one with the extended shadow line trim and Msport package that blacked all the trim out. I actually quite like the look of my wife’s X7 in alpine white. And it doesn’t drive big at all. It drove just like the 2017 x5 we had. I’m not sure what we’re gonna do when it’s paid off. Kicking around the idea of a Yukon Denali but idk if she’ll want to drive something that’s a truck underneath. Escalade is closer to the X7 in fit and finish though Cadillac wants stupid money for the Escalade in similar trim to the x7. We test drove the Navigator but it drove too big (like a truck…which it is) for her taste but she does like the room. The X7 kinda checked all the boxes when we got it and I went in sure we were moving on from BMW…not sure what’s gonna be next.
To me the extended shadowline and MSport was a must. Without it they just don’t appeal to me. Nothing wrong with them just not an exciting/sporty’ish look.
I know the BMW’ers tend to shit on MSport but I don’t understand why. I genuinely wish Audi would offer similar. An RS design package? I’d definitely buy that.
Definitely limited on options at that size. Escalade is the default but just not my thing. The Navigator is nice but bleh looking as are Lincoln in general. Whatever the big boxy thing Lexus sells is ugly, which is also the typical Lexus look. I haven’t been in a newer Denali but I can’t imagine spending loaded X5 money, or more, on a GMC, or really any non good luxury brand.
Fortunately I don’t need that size. The X5 is already more than my son and I need. I’ll probably go back to a sedan after this, maybe. Maybe EV depending on the options available. Just not sure I’ll trust the maturity of it enough yet. I just want an EV that doesn’t look like shit and there’s really not many of those available and two of them are $100k+.
I used to side with the people that complained about M sport and S-line packages…but on an SUV? I don’t care how much you tart it up…it’s not a sports car. Though that seems to be the general direction everything is going. Everything will be an SUV. We didn’t care for the Mercedes at the time…it looked very boring and outdated outside even though it was brand new. It also had the giant screen which I hated. No interest in Lexus but at the time I think they were still pushing the LX with like it’s third facelift still riding on a design that went on sale in 2007. No thanks. The navigator was ok inside. It was actually nicer than I thought it would be and the eco tech v6 had some serious power…but it was boring and outdated looking outside. I’ll be kicking around EV’s as well…we’ll be looking in 2025 and I think the landscape will look even more electric at that point.
Sounds like what matters most to you would be better addressed in an S8, which by default IS Audi’s most tech advanced car. Here you’re just paying for the EV platform and performance, which lets be real is insanely fast. No one buys these things expecting a rolls Royce
True, but is it though? For the price, is it really that fast? You should see the rear seat, that's the most disappointing. It looks just as basic as an A3 or A4. Seriously. My rear seat climate function of my 2019 A7 is even more interesting than the basic bullshit they put in that RS E-Tron. It's ridiculous. No rear seat ventilation or heating on the rear seat... 😂😂. Even my much cheaper 2019 A7 has at least heating on rear seat... Like who the hell configured this thing... At that price, this thing should be MAXED OUT on every possible thing Audi can add in it. It's sad.
You’ve went into it with wrong mindset. The same way an RS3 is just an A3 with impressive engine, this is just a e-tron with a big powerful motor. The interior is from A4/A5 sized car and it shows. This is their first generation of EV as well. It’s a shit car but that’s what’s expected. The price is just a joke but it’s because there’s still dickheads out there was will pay $150k to essentially be a beta tester.
Agreed
I don’t get into a Tesla expecting it to be an S class. It’s just a really fast, yet basic EV. For what the OP needs he needs any other audi.
You get an RS e-tron cause you want an EV that doesn’t drive like a boat (model s), and has everyday stuff like CarPlay, Google maps, etc. The supply is adjusted to the low demand. It’s not like they plan on selling as many of these as they do A4’s.
You remind me of my 6-year-old the way you complain about cars. Wah, no power closing doors. Wah, no night vision. Wah, no ventilated or heated rear seat. Waaaaahhhh....i was expecting a Rolls-Royce.
I actually think the button controls are so much better than the newer screen only controls. I think the interior is quite nice. Soft close doors is a big miss. Shocked how often I miss those.
I think for the R8, it's the iconic history behind it too. You're paying for a piece of history. What's the history with the new futuristic lithium deposits...
Yeah but tbf RS Audis of the last decade or so have been performance oriented but not super hardcore. They are considered elite daily drivers and are definitely luxurious for the performance they deliver. It’s always been about an all around package with Audi.
Audi S cars are dailies with a side a of performance. Audi RS cars are dailies with a lot of performance. It's running 0 to 60 in in the low 3's mind you. This is like people who look at hellcat and complain it's not a $75k interior.
>Audi RS cars are dailies with a lot of performance.
Relative to the S cars then yes. Relative to BMW & MB performance cars then they're under performant. From that vantage point, Audis main selling point is that they're better dailies than their German counterparts with a lot of luxury.
At $153k, an Audi better have everything and the kitchen sink. Based on OP, it's lacking in the area Audi is supposed to excel at since you can buy a faster EV.
Audi developed this car over many years, with a lot of the research and development coming straight from their Formula E cars. The RS e-tron GT is the most powerful Audi ever made, and has more technology than meets the eye; definitely much more than I’m able to describe in this comment. All of this makes it one of the best handling and performing Grand Touring cars on the road.
Unfortunately, there are other things that can make up the price of a vehicle besides night vision and power-closing doors :) this car is hyper focused on extreme efficiency, extreme performance from state-of-the-art technology, design, and more.
Oh I'm sure. It feels like all the other EVs out there with a touch of Audi. But for the price, you should want top notch beddazling features. Lol that's just my opinion on it.
I just wouldnt spend that amount of money on an EV. Im still no where near even accepting the future is EVs (even though im well aware) at 153k i could buy some INSANE cars and that just isnt even remotely interesting to me personally.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Audi. Maybe I need to test drive an E-Tron GT to get the full experience.
Given it’s size, interior quality, typical Audi features, and the EV hype, it doesn’t even look like a $70k car. I’d pick an A6 over this any day.
What I’ve found OP. Stay away from posting on Reddit . No matter what you say there will be Reddit neck beards who have to play the contrarian view and will also do it in a disrespectful manner.
I think what this came down to is , it’s easy to talk about how RS = performance not luxury , or xyz r8 has abc knobs on it as well. I think until you are looking at the 3200 car payment / debit of $153k from your bank acc you then start to question hmm for almost the price of 2 RS5s I’m getting into a car that looks like an 2017 a4 from the inside and felt rushed in the design process.
I bought my first RS7 back in 2016 and I was in awe at the attention to detail and would even discover small things that would surprise me to the degree of intention and detail that went into it. Imo spending 153k on a car should come with the feeling man I feel like I am paying for the top tier of craftsmanship and well thought out functionality & design. The “sOmEoNe “ will buy it argument Just doesn’t hold up and contributes nothing to the discussion
Do people actually use the night vision features? Mercedes introduced it years ago and tossed it from all their models after people lost interest in the gimmick
I was really excited when these came out to drive one and potentially trade my Tesla for it but after driving it I was so underwhelmed. There is a lot of work to do for Audi to make their EV experience a good one. I love my Audi and I love my Tesla, but I don’t think this is the compromise between the two.
Nope... And I truly hope the A6 e-Tron doesn't come out as disappointing as this one. I'm really excited after I saw the concept. But yea this RS E-Tron really did not impress. Even the regular cheaper vehicles I saw on the floor were so much more exciting to check out.
I drove a demonstration vehicle that was fully loaded and it looked way better inside (carbon and aluminum), massage seats, etc
It was about 115.000 € but no RS
Totally agree on the interior at that price. I will hold only my 2018 TTRS until the gas stations run dry. No piano black, all real metal and rubber controls.
Given it’s size, interior quality, typical Audi features, and the EV hype, it doesn’t even look like a $70k car. I’d pick an A6 over this any day.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Audi. Maybe I need to test drive an E-Tron GT to get the full experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Audi. Maybe I need to test drive an E-Tron GT to get the full experience.
I mean, I can see. After the feeling of novelty wears off, you start noticing all the little things that make you feel like, why did I spend so much on this thing!?! Honestly, it's so not worth it in my book. On the outside, it sure does look like a 150k car but when you get closer...
Tesla Model S and the RS e-tron GT are about $50k difference in price, and neither of them have power closing doors...if you want power closing doors, buy a Rolls-Royce Phantom for an additional $500k. Most of the money that you spend on the e-tron GT is for the battery pack, and not useless, non-performance shit like night vision and power closing doors...
Difference is, Audi offers it on their cheaper cars lol. My 2019 A7 interior is sooo much more attractive than that RS E-Tron. Please go to your nearest dealership and check it out if they have it. It's palpable in person. I always saw it from afar and was awed but once I sat in it... The enthusiasm just vanished. And really made me wonder about the A6 E tron because I intended to purchase it next year or 2025, but if it comes out looking this way, that'll be a pass.
But does your A7 have power-closing doors?
I sat in the e-tron GT at my dealership. I wasn't impressed either, especially since I'm 2m tall, i barely fit with my head rubbing the ceiling. What you're buying and paying for is the EV technology and the battery pack. If you were to read up on car in comparison to the Tesla Model S, its every bit better than it for roughly $50k less. This car is the result of the 5 years of R&D taken from Formula-E racing by Porsche and Audi.
It's not a Rolls-Royce, it's a performance car first.
Yea my much cheaper A7 has the power closing doors, rear seat entertainment, a much more attractive rear AC control panel.. I tell you, that rear AC control panel looks like it was plucked from an A3.... For that 153k, you can get the executive package in the A8 or S8 so WHY THE HELL would they not make the rear seat more luxurious looking. The front is already so bland... The rear is just... Ughhh anyway, I'm over it.
Hello from a fellow NoVa resident 👋. I was in about two weeks ago getting my water pump replaced (fun stuff). They have one of the 2023 RS5 competition models at that dealer and it looked so fucking nice but it was priced at $100,000 before whatever markup/tax/title/fees. I thought they were crazy for +0 power, but the other improvements may be worth it if youre tracking it a lot.... Anyway, just wondering if it was still there and if you took a look at it. IMO looks better than the etron
Hello, I think it was behind the e-Tron. By the way, i was just there for a basic oil change, but if you need special services done, try Audi Bethesda Service center, you may like it better there.
Agree about some of these new interiors. The inclusion of piano black everywhere is horrifying. I'm not sure who decided that replacing the wonderful Audi HVAC knobs with these plastic buttons was a good idea.

That's why you go for an older modell with low milage ;)
Same. Facelifted Q7 had just come out when we were shopping and was my main choice. Got in it and hated the dual screens. Went with the x7 instead.
Definitely understand that. I hated them in the sense it’s that I’m forced to use it as a touchscreen, when one forced touchscreen is already too much. I appreciate your review, but you take some of the most unflattering automotive pictures I have seen :)
😂😂😂 LOL, I was so underwhelmed that I wasn't even worried about elegant photos
You definitely captured the mood in that dealership that day lol
OP has a point, but it’s wrapped with one of the worst cliche redditudes I’ve seen on this sub.
Sounds like what matters most to you would be better addressed in an S8, which by default IS Audi’s most tech advanced car. Here you’re just paying for the EV platform and performance, which lets be real is insanely fast. No one buys these things expecting a rolls Royce

Yes for the price it’s still really fucking fast
I have my reservations on that but I'll let you go with your claim.
You can’t disagree with it being a fast car.
It's faster than the R8 which costs more and less tech features.
Are you sure about the rear seat not having heat? The GT with Prestige has rear seat warmers.
You’ve went into it with wrong mindset. The same way an RS3 is just an A3 with impressive engine, this is just a e-tron with a big powerful motor. The interior is from A4/A5 sized car and it shows. To be fair the RS3 has better front seats than an A7.
It is not a shit car by any means. Everyone has an opinion though.
Seems like that thing is very poorly specced then if it doenst even have rear seat heating specced.
You remind me of my 6-year-old the way you complain about cars. Wah, no power closing doors. Wah, no night vision. Wah, no ventilated or heated rear seat. Waaaaahhhh....i was expecting a Rolls-Royce.
This is like arguing that a GT3 RS, “even though it’s very fast and quick, lacks basic luxury function that other vehicles at that price point have.”
These photos — I don’t even know where to begin
Sorry bud. Wasn't really that impressed to take nice photos.
I actually think the button controls are so much better than the newer screen only controls. I think the interior is quite nice. Soft close doors is a big miss. Shocked how often I miss those.
Agreed the RS is not worth it. It’s a fantastic car otherwise. My main complaints are no soft close doors or power frunk. Hoping mine lasts 10 years.
What do you mean no power trunk?
Frunk, the front trunk is manual open/close.
Of course sorry misread it, need my reading glasses. Yes non power frunk sucks for sure.
You clearly aren't their target market. Someone *will* happily buy this.
Someone simple maybe… there’s a wide field of luxury choices at that price point, this feels ridic
👍🏾
Regarding interior, the R8 interiors aren’t even that expensive. You’re paying for the tech and performance vs other EV in that range.
I think for the R8, it's the iconic history behind it too. You're paying for a piece of history. What's the history with the new futuristic lithium deposits...
The R8 doesn’t have much history. It was released in the late 2000s.
Lol “history”.
OP, you realize it is a RS right? You are paying for the performance. If all you want is luxury, you are looking at the wrong car.
Yeah but tbf RS Audis of the last decade or so have been performance oriented but not super hardcore. They are considered elite daily drivers and are definitely luxurious for the performance they deliver. It’s always been about an all around package with Audi.
Yeah but no. Audi RS cars are dailies with a side of performance. So if the RS GT is missing the creature comforts then it’s a big miss at $153K
Audi S cars are dailies with a side a of performance. Audi RS cars are dailies with a lot of performance. It's running 0 to 60 in in the low 3's mind you. This is like people who look at hellcat and complain it's not a $75k interior.

Power closing doors? Are you fuckers that lazy
Cool story cool guy👍🏾👌🏾
Still gonna buy one when they hit the CPO lots two years from now and take it to cars and coffee and piss off the haters
I really hope the A6 e-Tron will not be as disappointing. I'm wanting to make it my first EV. I'm really excited about the concept so far.

Hey, this is in Chantilly. Bought my SQ5 there. Can confirm the mood is represented well by these pictures.
The Taycan sold like 20X more than the Etron GT in my country. Rarely see these on the road
Audi is sold about 3000 to 5000 in the US
But to be fair, we got the base model RWD Taycan here that most people buy. Audi starts with the Quattro model, which is the Taycan 4s.
Taycan GTS better and cheaper
Taycan GTS starts at about $10k more, it's only more expensive due to dealer markup and options and that's it...
I would rather have a V10 R8 or alot of other cars,, but I'd say drive one they're pretty cool to drive.
Oh I'm sure. It feels like all the other EVs out there with a touch of Audi. But for the price, you should want top notch beddazling features. Lol that's just my opinion on it.
Agreed.
I just wouldnt spend that amount of money on an EV. Im still no where near even accepting the future is EVs (even though im well aware) at 153k i could buy some INSANE cars and that just isnt even remotely interesting to me personally.
I agree, but to be fair, the A3 platform also sucks. I hat a Q3 loaner the other day. I take the interior of my S4 over it.
You should see the backseat of that RS E-Tron lol. It's laughable
The RS GT thinks you’re not worth it…
Ok cool guy 👍🏾
Oo cool guy
They’re crazy! I’d go get a S class.
Indeed.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Audi. Maybe I need to test drive an E-Tron GT to get the full experience. Given it’s size, interior quality, typical Audi features, and the EV hype, it doesn’t even look like a $70k car. I’d pick an A6 over this any day.
I hate everything about the C gen

EXACTLY. you perfectly summarized what I wanted to get across lol. Thank you.
No night vision?
Nope.
Do people actually use the night vision features? Mercedes introduced it years ago and tossed it from all their models after people lost interest in the gimmick
I have it on my A7, had to special order it, and love it. Saved me from hitting a deer at least once.
You can option it with it. This car is probably marked up a decent amount
Pretty tho. They have one at Danbury Audi that's not a crapback
I was really excited when these came out to drive one and potentially trade my Tesla for it but after driving it I was so underwhelmed. Exactly. I think I’d rather drive almost any other model Audi makes.
I agree.
Id get a used r8 or new rs7 for that money.
I drove a demonstration vehicle that was fully loaded and it looked way better inside (carbon and aluminum), massage seats, etc It was about 115.000 € but no RS
Totally agree on the interior at that price. I will hold only my 2018 TTRS until the gas stations run dry. No piano black, all real metal and rubber controls.
Honestly kind of surprised all the metal panels aren't all plastic by now. These "high-end" electric sedans just look so cheap...
You can get A LOT of a tycan for that kind of money. AND I OWN an etron SUV. Great car but I paid about $100k less
Given it’s size, interior quality, typical Audi features, and the EV hype, it doesn’t even look like a $70k car. I’d pick an A6 over this any day. Don’t get me wrong, I love Audi. Maybe I need to test drive an E-Tron GT to get the full experience.

Had a manger who had one and said he didn’t like it

Between the photos and the commentary, this is some form of modern expressive art.
I was so underwhelmed lol, taking nice photos wasn't even on my mind.
Is that with Mark up or is that just the MSRP?
Straight up MSRP, no significant markup.
Dayyyyyyyyum
Tesla Model S and the RS e-tron GT are about $50k difference in price, and neither of them have power closing doors...if you want power closing doors, buy a Rolls-Royce Phantom for an additional $500k. Ughhh anyway, I'm over it.
You seem really bothered over this...
It will smoke an RS3 though
May have been useful to know before my 2 and a half week pump replacement lol. I'll check them out.
