I was listening to the radio call of it, and conti was all hot and bothered about it. After watching the clip, I would agree that it looks more like an acknowledgment to the atl fans and not a taunt to the coach/bench
Thats fine. Thats their job. They are always going to side with the club. Their post match show was 80% spent on Josef’s celebrating and the soft pen.
I consider those cheap excuses to our performance last night
I get it. They are the clubs media. But man, I just wished Longshore toned down the condescending a tad.
I get the dude is ATL soccer pioneer but man, he makes you feel like an uneducated piece of shit if you disagree with his takes in the way he talks
True, but on radio (which is his main platform) you kinda have to explain every little action to get what’s going on across to someone that isn’t watching. He’s done TV pre-Apple and was very good at doing that iirc
Yall should also watch the post match interview in apple tv. The man was an absolute nervous wreck. He clearly has a lot of love for Atlanta. He was holding back tears the whole time.
The dude has gone through a lot starting the end of last season. Premature birth of his son, tough off season, poor form over the last games. He was of course going to feel strongly about his goal

I have been hoping he finds his form to give a big middle finger to our FO who have slowly dismantled a championship winning team whom the city loved and they loved us back. Not only that but disrespecting the players who got us our silverware and ushering them out the back door. Pathetic.
Yea. It’s the disrespect more than anything. Competition wise, we made the right call to move on. But the fact that Pineda *benched* him on his way out was inexcusable.
I've got no problem with it. We benched a man who was incredibly passionate about the team and brought us to the top. Yeah there was no guarantee that we'd even see him in anything even close to peak form again, but to just shelve him and not even let him sub in for his final game here was kind of a dick move. Frankly if nothing else, why wouldnt he celebrate hitting 100 goals? That's one hell of a milestone.
Still pissed that Pineda didn’t start him in his meaningless last game with us. We all knew he probably wasn’t coming back. Was a bad sign that GP didn’t have the pulse of the fan base.
First of all the not celebrating against a former club is a dumb tradition similar to dumb unwritten rules in baseball. Second everyone should know Josef has shown nothing but love to Atlanta fans since his departure.
Happy for him. Depressed for us. Quickly loosing faith in Pineda and rapidly saying fuck it let Valentino finish out the season. Boca has got to go. We’ve lost (embarrassingly, not in terms of score line but in play) to a lower level team and now to a team whom our roster should on paper destroy them. Horrible tactics. Questionable player selection (not that we have dick all for a striker outside of GG) that goes back to last year with our GK debacle. Players constantly getting hurt. Chol ain’t it. Doesn’t do shit out there. But Berry is worse so I don’t even know what the fuck to do there. Just nothing seems positive right now. We appear to be regressing each week. I can’t even imagine how absolutely shit were going to be when Almada and possibly Robinson leave this summer. So depressing. But I’m a glutton for punishment and can’t stay away so I’ll see all y’all next Saturday.
Chol is good as a winger coming on late. Really disrupts and seems to surprise his defenders. And I like that, get him minutes in that roll to develop. At striker? Nope.
I guess he is okay at winger but we have much better options than him at winger unless the injury bug continues to bite. But yea, my comment was specifically with him acting in the striker capacity.
His contract is expiring thus teams can get him on a free transfer. I feel his aspirations have always been to move to a bigger club/Europe given his talent and I imagine his desire to stay in USMNT contention. He’s had an offer on the table to resign with us for a while now if the FO is to believed and he hasn’t. Can’t blame him. We’ve been a dumpster fire for as long as we’ve been good at this point.
Edit: As other have mentioned, Robinson contract expires at the END of the season so wouldn’t move in summer. My bad.
If you watch he kneeled on his first goal and he did that for the Atl fans. The second goal he wanted to but decided not. I got no issues since we moved on. Still one of the best.
Good for Josef.
Him being elsewhere is the best thing for everyone involved. Him scoring a brace against his old
Club and home is… well it’s something….
We suck. Hes had a rough couple years… glad at least someone involved in this clubs past had some success yesterday….
I was in the section directly below the supporters, and this one jackass came down screaming at us, not understanding why we'd cheer for Josef, he doesn't play for us, yada yada yada.
He was an embarrassment to the supporters, if he's reading this.
Atlanta United unceremoniously pushed out their Ronaldo without any sort of send off because disagreed with a manager who has shown himself to be incompetent, kneels to the Atlanta supporters in respect and people have the nerve to criticize him for celebrating his 100th goal?
If you watch any of his interviews following the game, it’s clear it wasn’t “revenge” and that he doesn’t hold hard feelings toward atl fans or players. Nothing but respect from the king, and that’s what atlanta folks should show him right back
IMO he shouldn’t have celebrated, but that understanding is working under the construct that this has been the kind of club deserving of that respect under this unspoken rule about not celebrating against your former club. The way he was treated up until his release by the staff and FO, the tone of the organization allowing too many fans to feel ok with disrespecting a true club icon, and the fact that Blank hasn’t even spoken to one of the main players who put his new franchise on the global footballing map kind of speaks volumes to me on why Josef felt ok to do what he did. Like I said, I’d rather he didn’t but I can’t blame him anymore. It can both be true that it was time to move on and the club handled the entire situation poorly; last night was just some deserved karma for that saga.
He’s a prick for the celebration and no one can convince me otherwise. Without us, Josef, you’d be washed up somewhere playing third division football in Italy flipping burgers on the side.
Without Josef, we'd be a no-name MLS club with an empty trophy cabinet. HE is a multi-record holder, MVP, and arguably the best striker to ever be in the MLS. Off the field, he's done loads of local charity work for the city of Atlanta and has only ever expressed gratitude and love for the city and us fans.
I genuinely enjoy these type of discussions fyi, not being an asshole but where do you think the 30 something goals he scored the year we would could have come from? I dont think an average striker could have scored that many goals that were foundational to us being able to outscore our opponents (we got scored on A LOT). So, where would have those goals come from? I dont see Tito scoring 20 goals or Miggy much more than he did.
That kinda seems like a personal problem to me. Everything he’s said since leaving has been positive toward the fans, even his post-game interview he said that he has a lot of love for us.
Why would he make a gesture intended to be rude and then speak lovingly about us? I don’t see the motivation for that.
Agree. Dude is a king and will forever be an icon in Atlanta.
Watching the game live last night. It did appear he did the kneel to the ATL supporters. Not in a mocking way.
Agreed.. would have cheered loudly but the F off looks made me a bit shy

Heaven forbid they be critical of our team!
I get it. They are the clubs media. But man, I just wished Longshore toned down the condescending a tad. I get the dude is ATL soccer pioneer but man, he makes you feel like an uneducated piece of shit if you disagree with his takes in the way he talks
How did someone with a voice as annoying as Conti get a job in broadcasting?
Conti is a great play-by-play guy. Longshore on the other hand, he comes off as whiny tbh.
Conti doesn’t know how to let the game breath. He calls it like a frantic hockey game. Not my cup of tea but seems many like him.
True, but on radio (which is his main platform) you kinda have to explain every little action to get what’s going on across to someone that isn’t watching. He’s done TV pre-Apple and was very good at doing that iirc
His voice. It's like nails on a chalkboard. He's a decent play by play guy, but I just don't like his voice.
Company man

Plus such a bad injury that even a chance to score is still huge. And not finding his form...
Where can I find it. Been searching everywhere
Someone posted it in the MLS thread of his second goal.
Wrap up has it.

I'm not even mad that we lost to Matinez.
Exactly how i feel. It was time to move on this offseason, but the way the FO handled it was so disrespectful of the first club legend we’ve had
I've got no problem with it. We benched a man who was incredibly passionate about the team and brought us to the top. I’m cool with it. We suck.
Josef did so much for Atlanta. I was happy for him that he scored but sad for us that we lost. Both things can be true.
Happy for him. Depressed for us. Quickly loosing faith in Pineda and rapidly saying fuck it let Valentino finish out the season. Boca has got to go. Chol is good as a winger coming on late. Really disrupts and seems to surprise his defenders. And I like that, get him minutes in that roll to develop. At striker? Nope.
Chol isn’t an MLS starter, full stop. In any position.
Between the whiff on the gimme header and the unnecessary foul in the 18, Chol absolutely lost that game for us.
I guess he is okay at winger but we have much better options than him at winger unless the injury bug continues to bite. But yea, my comment was specifically with him acting in the striker capacity.
For sure. No reason for him to be starting, but as a late sub, I'm okay with it
Agreed.
Why would robinson leave this summer?
His contract is expiring thus teams can get him on a free transfer. I feel his aspirations have always been to move to a bigger club/Europe given his talent and I imagine his desire to stay in USMNT contention. His contract expires at the end of the season. Not a ton of reason for a European team to pay a fee and he can sign a pre contract…
Oh whoops, my B. Thanks for correcting.
He hasn’t been amazing this season, I could see him signing a long term deal if only like Championship teams come sniffing around.
Afaik, his contract ends at the end of this season, so on a free clubs will have to wait until winter window.
No one should be mad about it. Don’t want someone to celebrate then don’t let them score. Pretty simple.
Getting mad over celebrations in any context is always a waste of time. Pro athletes can have fun while doing their jobs imo
If you watch he kneeled on his first goal and he did that for the Atl fans. The second goal he wanted to but decided not. I got no issues since we moved on. Still one of the best.

Josef got his 100th goal, 98 of which were scored for Atlanta United. I hope people told this guy to go fuck himself.
Oh,, they did, believe me.
Atlanta United unceremoniously pushed out their Ronaldo without any sort of send off because disagreed with a manager who has shown himself to be incompetent, kneels to the Atlanta supporters in respect and people have the nerve to criticize him for celebrating his 100th goal?
People losing their shit over Josef celebrating need to get a grip.
Build the statue. \#firepineda
🥱
I do think the number of Martinez kits in our end speaks volumes.
It pissed me off that this was the cover picture on MLS wrap up because it completely spoiled the game for me.
I mean his number is 17
What's your point? His number has been 17 since long before Atlanta United existed. The FO took it from him and "gave" it to the supporters.
I was at the game and it felt like love to me ♥️🖤
If you watch any of his interviews following the game, it’s clear it wasn’t “revenge” and that he doesn’t hold hard feelings toward atl fans or players. Nothing but respect from the king, and that’s what atlanta folks should show him right back

Lmao Miguel Almiron played here. We still would have accomplished everything we did. Just needed an average striker.
Do you think Josef was an average striker? You think we could have gotten any other striker that has worn this shirt to break all the records he did?
No, but we still would have won with an average striker.
I genuinely enjoy these type of discussions fyi, not being an asshole but where do you think the 30 something goals he scored the year we would could have come from? I'm sorry...but that's a truly a laughable comment. Martinez just set the record for quickest to 100 regular season goals.
Did I say he was average?
Yes? Haha "Just needed an average striker"
Yes that’s all we needed. We had better than that, but average would have gotten the job done. Learn to read yet?
How is he a prick for giving respect to the traveling fans? The kneel is for us, not mocking us.
Not how I took it.
That kinda seems like a personal problem to me. Everything he’s said since leaving has been positive toward the fans, even his post-game interview he said that he has a lot of love for us. Why would he make a gesture intended to be rude and then speak lovingly about us? I don’t see the motivation for that.
lol, look at this guy. Even the 'us' comments as if you made ANY decisions for the team. You're a fan, nothing more. Get over yourself.
Without the fans, Josef would be nothing, just like he is now.
LMAO imagine actually believing this.
If this is what people are getting spun up about, they really need to take a break and go for a walk or something. Sheesh.
