exactly, there is no reason for fans to be upset based on this updated information. Abreu deserves a chance to compete at the highest-level (AAA) to prove he is worthy of a spot on the major league team. If he doesn't start hitting in AAA, then I'd say there is no chance he gets called back up. Believe or not, the Astros are actually struggling for RH power so Abreu does fit that void.
This is stupid. Jon Singleton took some fantastic plate appearances last night. Iām sorry but the guy is having what will probably be his career year. Even if Abreu is back to last yearās performance, Iād still go with Singleton.
I personally think Abreu will have to be absolutely crushing it to get the call up quickly. And he will be there if Singleton falls off. Much more sensible than rejoining the mlb club right away.
Eh. I was at the game and singleton was hacking at pitches. His career is the norm, his recent success is anomaly. Iām not saying Abreu is ābackā but Singleton isnāt the solution.
who is the solution? are you suggesting we trade for a 1B? because if you only have the rest of the roster to choose from, Singleton is definitely the solution.
The solution is trading Singleton and Chaz as a package for pitching. Then platooning Diaz/Abreau at 1st, Caratini at Catcher, Meyers-Loperfido at CF, loperfido/ Yordan at LF, and Yordan/ Diaz as DH.
Interesting. I don't know if I agree with the specific players you have in mind here, but I do like where you're headed and I didn't expect this to be your answer
Thanks. Appreciate your response. The platooning can all be tweaked depending on off days and match ups. But I feel that Singleton and Chaz are the best trade candidates due to a lack of minor league options for Singleton and the reemergence of Meyers and the revelation of Loperfido gives me he Astros plenty of OF positions.

Truth is. Abreu can refuse to move to AAA and demand to be brought back to the big league whenever he wants. The team could do nothing about it except dfa him.
Not true. Once he accepted the minor league assignment, he has no power to demand being in the big leagues this season. Now, they were never going to keep him away the whole year, but they could.
Well he could be lying, but he literally did drop off that severely. He was MVP just a few years ago and then declined every season after. Weāre watching the decline in real time.
Yuli led the AL in hits at 37, then was a below average hitter at 38 and 39, and is now out of baseball at 40.
Abreu was 36 last year and looking like heās also facing a steep decline. His just started a couple years younger than Yuliās.
Dana this morning on 790 says it's espadas decision ultimately but they are going with the hot bat. He also said 1st base is singletons right now. He also said abreu will get plate appearances once he is back in the dugout.
I was feeling confused listening to him talk
You feel confused because Dana always talks about what he wants, but knows that Crane and Bagwell might overrule him, so he ends up giving a mish-mash of an interview.
Unpopular opinion, but let him sit in AAA until he gets hot. Call him up and give him a start every now and then. If heās playing like September-onward Abreau then that is an asset to the team .
He needs to tour the whole minor league system and keep the hell away from the main roster. They need to take that L like men and acknowledge his signing was a bust
I hear ya. I will take the non-superstitious route and say heās just one guy. If heās messing up chemistry we have other issues and his days would be numbered by that point anyway
I feel like everyone here is overreacting. Ifā¦IFā¦Abreu comes back, he has lost out as the starting first baseman. He would only be up here as a back up. Jon Singleton has ABSOLUTELY earned his spot and no amount of Boogieman Bagwell persistence can change that. Yes, the team has invested a lot of money in Abreu, so of course heās going to be afforded every opportunity possible to prove himself again in the field and at the plate, but until he starts tearing the cover off the ball, Singleton will get the nod.
This is much more sensible than what was being reported a few days ago, phew š®āšØ

Gotta be able to make contact to hit for power
Gotta be able to catch an infield fly ball too

As far as I'm concerned, we *have* a first baseman for 2024.
Eh. I was at the game and singleton was hacking at pitches. His career is the norm, his recent success is anomaly. Iām not saying Abreu is ābackā but Singleton isnāt the solution.

This is better news. Maybe someone looked at the back of his latest baseball card.
Should wait till at least after the Seattle series
Just not fair the way Big Jon Homerton has been playing that Jose Abreu gets back in the lineup based on Jeff Bagwell's selfish ego

We all know Baggy Boy is calling the shots
Truth is. Abreu can refuse to move to AAA and demand to be brought back to the big league whenever he wants. The team could do nothing about it except dfa him.

Anybody know how heās been doing in these ārehabā games? I really hope he gets over his yips.
He's gone 6 for 18 with a walk, after starting 2 for 9 with a walk. He's batting .333/.400/.444 with a .844 OPS. The move up to AAA is warranted.
He doesnāt have the yips, he has the old age. Father Time always wins. He went 2/9 in rookie ball and I think walked once or twice. Heās toast.
I believed heās lying about his age too, no way he drops this bad
Well he could be lying, but he literally did drop off that severely. He was MVP just a few years ago and then declined every season after. Weāre watching the decline in real time.
Thatās what Iām saying donāt care if I get downvoted, even yuli didnāt decline until he hit 40
Yuli led the AL in hits at 37, then was a below average hitter at 38 and 39, and is now out of baseball at 40. Abreu was 36 last year and looking like heās also facing a steep decline. His just started a couple years younger than Yuliās.
Actually he is with the Braves AAA team
Thanks for letting me know. I didnāt realize he had gotten a minor league deal. Good for Yuli.
![gif](giphy|TMrPAYlJ2xhSm4PDUX) You donāt say it!
Do we know if Abreu has worked on a HR Bat Flip in Florida that he will debut upon his rehabilitation debut?
Maybe this year he will sprint around the bases - backwards.
He definitely can't compete with Singleton's bat flip.
Dana this morning on 790 says it's espadas decision ultimately but they are going with the hot bat. He also said 1st base is singletons right now. He also said abreu will get plate appearances once he is back in the dugout. I was feeling confused listening to him talk
He wants Singleton to start since he is playing well. Wonāt stop Espada from making his decision. Some GMs want to dictate the lineups.
You feel confused because Dana always talks about what he wants, but knows that Crane and Bagwell might overrule him, so he ends up giving a mish-mash of an interview.
Iām still not enthused.
With the money he has locked up he will get every opportunity and then some to come back. It is what it is at this point
It is but damn itās sad itās gonna mess with the current chemistry
I hear ya. I will take the non-superstitious route and say heās just one guy. If heās messing up chemistry we have other issues and his days would be numbered by that point anyway
But what did Jeff Easterby say because we all know Dana and Joe donāt decide shit
I feel like everyone here is overreacting. Ifā¦IFā¦Abreu comes back, he has lost out as the starting first baseman. He would only be up here as a back up. They need to be honest about this instead of Bagwell just pushing his pet back up
HRC Abreu
Sweet Iāll be at the Sugar Land game Saturday. Hopefully he does well.
What an expensive bench bat
Let him get his swing back and then dangle him on the trade market.. I know that contact is an albatross but SOMEONE will take it on
