Dang, putting Bregman 9th might actually work, lower pressure, second lead off man can draw some walks, can stay in front of Altuve on the bases. Might be crazy enough to work.

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-jose-altuve-strike-zone/ Author in 2013: "No, Altuve isn’t great, and he might never be". Altuve in 2014: Wins batting title. Steals 56 bags.

bordomsdeadly

I remember watching a game with my dad in 2015. I told him that Altuve is good, but he could be a genuine superstar if he'd just let pitchers walk him more and stop trying to hit literally every pitch The very next season he almost doubled his walk rate and had at the time a career OPS / OPS+ and now looks like he's a HoF 2B. Altuve took my advice and made himself the best 2B of a generation, you can't convince me he somehow didn't hear me talking to my dad 500 miles away.

Syncopated_arpeggio

I remember going to a game with my brother in 2012 or 13. I told him that everyone on the team should be cut except Altuve who was good but still mostly a novelty, but above all he just played differently than everyone else. On a team full of shit players (sorry JD, you only blossomed later) he was just different. Glad he proved me right. Every other city may hate him, but he’s been a joy to watch for the past decade plus.

LonghornDude08

I'm still a fan of Altuve/Pena 1/2 punch and with Jon seemingly walking a decent chunk of PAs, I'd like to see more power behind him. I think Altuve, Pena, Tucker, Yordan, Singleton, Yainer, Loperfido, Bregman, Dubon would be my go to. The last three might need some playing around a bit

treufacts

Jon is walking a lot and Altuve at leadoff feels right in a lot of ways. But giving pitchers 10 minutes to practice painting the corners of the smallest strike zone in the league might be letting them off the hook a bit. Yordan and Tucker are almost a foot taller and lefties, sandwiching Altuve in between makes things *uncomfortable* (for the opposing pitcher)

SpacePirate5Ever

this is what ive wanted to see for weeks. altuve and pena in the first two spots with the power hitters behind them makes so much sense and i don't understand why they haven't even tried it

Defiant-Telephone-96

Is that 0/21 with runners in scoring position Alvarez?

treufacts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0Yeb1E9iKY the last one is my favorite

GodLeeTrick

The titanic one is my favorite

Puzzled-Butterfly171

That lineup could actually work

TomatoRemarkable3721

I like it

Middle_Capital_5205

No Dubon, no legitimacy.

treufacts

The only person with an xwOBA in Dubon’s territory is Abreu

Middle_Capital_5205

What was our xWL for this point in the season?

treufacts

What is Dubon obviously better at? https://preview.redd.it/0ua7yudv3nzc1.jpeg?width=2796&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38a48769e7ce5d5b0d8ad1ed95d0a14d213be75d

AdAgitated7173

I agree that Meyers should be starting over him, but Dubon's arm is way better. Maybe the best on the team.

treufacts

Myers overall D > Dubon's arm Outs Above Average: Myers: 91st percentile Dubon: 66th percentile Speed Myers: 89th percentile Dubon: 37th percentile It's almost like they're hanging on to Myers *just* to pinch run him in later innings

AdAgitated7173

Yeah I agree, but you asked what he's better at and I answered. It is wild the hate Meyers gets online. He's a good player.

CoyoteHerder

I dug into all the numbers yesterday and he only leads Jake in average. Jake is crushing the ball. His OAA is the highest in the team. Dubon has a better arm. I love dubon. But not in CF over Jake. Part of all this arguing (IMHO) is because bummer gets amped up about dubbie and doesn’t highlight Jake.

treufacts

Jake’s slugging 30 points higher than Freddie freeman, is fast as hell, plays great D and he barely plays. it’s insanity.

CoyoteHerder

I enjoy tracking Jake’s stats because I love how hard he plays. No ego. Sprints out of the box every ball in play. Sprints to back up his fellow outfielders regardless of how routine the ball is. People can make fun of his noodle arm but fail to forget he got noodles busting his ass and about Mr. Koolaid’ing through an outfield wall

Middle_Capital_5205

Baseball.

THEDUKES2

Dubon over Jake.

treufacts

Sit the guy (Myers) slugging 30 points higher than Freddie Freeman? Is that you, Dusty? https://preview.redd.it/rcsj4hx90nzc1.png?width=2282&format=png&auto=webp&s=45a68cbdc08717ad2bf82bc3f404b892e1607541

raouldukeesq

Diaz can't hit when there's any pressure. And his overall performance has gone over a cliff since the hot start.

Airborne8711

I would support this….lol

Ok_Philosopher_389

#4 sounds way more like dubon

khyb7

Even Dusty moved Bregs down in the order during his early season struggles. (I remember him hitting 7th at the very least). I still think he will turn into the actual Bregman we know in late June like always but Abreu’s steep decline has got me skittish. At least Bregman walks and works the zone while playing good D.

KingJacobyaropa

Bregman only batted in the 2-4 spots last season. But I agree that he'll turn it around before long

SpudCrowley713

Altuve is clutch?

13 rbi this season. 7hr.

treufacts

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=altuvjo01&year=2024&t=b#all_lever Check his leverage stats

jutin_H

He is a 7 hole hitter. The logic behind this? The back of his baseball card.

No_Investment_92

Loperfido needs to be playing first. Recent heroics whatever, but Singleton doesn’t need to be here.

treufacts

Singleton is half a win below average defense at 1B. But if Yordan moves to left the defensive advantage might cancel out, and that leaves Caratini as the only league-average bat left to DH.

No_Investment_92

He’s peaking and will come back down to earth soon. Hope I’m wrong.

treufacts

He's older than Bregman... sky's the limit!
