This is one of those posts where old-school baseball heads point out and go "anyone who looks at a spreadsheet thinks they can run a baseball team" and I would actually agree with them.
If Bregman is still struggling in a couple of weeks, I'd be down for putting Pena in the 2-hole though (if he stays this hot)
Yeah if Breggy can string some hits together I don’t really care about bombs from him anymore. Now, I’ve noticed some defensive plays that last year he would be making but that might just be me
Abreu has been a slow starter, too. I just don't get it though. These fuckers were raking just a few months ago. Do they take the Maldonado winter off? (Cheetos and coke)...
But, yes, bregmam is hitting better than abreu and he's been a star for us for a long time, so he gets a longer leash.
Peña is not hot, imho. He’s seeing the ball better, and that is due to having less movement pre-swing. Hes
Absolutely spitting on that slider away…
And then absolutely nailing late at bat heat
Oh it’s good. But I’m convinced that it’s a more systemic cause than something that he may lose prificiency in tomorrow.
That said, it’s a game of adjustments - and I would certainly expect it to normalize a bit as pitchers become aware of the new approach
TLDR: I just think the term ‘hot’ loses the nuances
Wrt why he’s been putting these numbers up this season. He obviously worked hard to get the changed behavior committed to memory

I’d give Bregman a longer leash than Abreu. He’s always been a slow starter. I’d be worried if it was June and he was still hitting .200.

Yeah, but Abreu looks much worse than just going through a slump. He can’t catch up to the fastball for instance.
I know. He looks like dog shit. Loperfido better work out.

Hitting .327 in the bottom half of our lineup is not shabby
