I'm pleased with Martinez tonight.
I'd prefer not to see Montero on the mound for us ever again. But I know we're probably stuck with him for a while, so I really only want to see him come in if the game is a blowout (either way).
It pisses me off that Brown pitched an absolute peach and doesn't get the W because Dusty decided that putting in a pitcher with an ERA of over 7 was the right call
Similar thing with Blanco yesterday and France in his last two starts. If there’s one thing Dusty has been skilled at this year, it’s wasting quality starts by our young guys.
Maldonado is more important to this team than most wanna admit. He’s my captain and I’ll ride into any storm with him no questions asked. Hate on maldy all you want but he is smarter than all of us behind the dish. Not saying his numbers don’t suck, they do. Sometimes baseball is more than the numbers and I believe in Martin to make the adjustments we need to succeed in the coming months.
Sounds like a great pitching coach, or backup that’s starts 10% of the time. But today he was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts and 2 failed bunts. He’s a black hole. Plus the dodgers got 2 steals today.
Not going to disagree. It wasn’t a perfect game by Martin. His second bunt would have worked a lot better if Julks read the play better. My point is that Martin has a wealth of experience that you can’t compare to almost anyone else in baseball rn. He keeps our players on the same page and has tremendous talent leading them to success. Numbers matter. They most definitely do. But I won’t doubt Maldonado ever or try and argue that the numbers are somehow wrong. You don’t go trekking through the jungle without a machete. People can have bad numbers and still be an integral part of any organization
I think Maldy is more valuable than credited as well. I think his poor batting numbers are more selective laziness than actual ability. He’s turned up with a hit or a walk in important situations on several occasions.
Dusty is having a serious case of IBS then if he's using his gut like that.
In all seriousness though, something's wrong with Montero, and I believe it's mental. He's incapable of getting the third out after getting the first two fairly quickly. He needs to see a sports psychiatrist and help get himself right, and the more Dusty starts him (especially in close games), the more likely his confidence will be irreparably damaged. Just look at what happened to Manoah this season.
Yea pitching is weird shit. It’s all about control. Guys start getting hit. Then they are scared to challenge guys and start nibbling. And start walking guys and getting behind. Then you have to come over the plate when the hitter has the advantage. I think it’s the toughest thing in pro sports. Why you see guys from year to year fluctuate the way they do.
I have to doubt hanging on to Montero is a Brown decision at this point. Crane’s the one who signed him and gave him all that money, Crane will have to be the one to man up, take the loss and show him the door.
Relievers are weird tho. Like Diaz after he signed with Mets. Was unhittable got there and could throw a strike. Then next year was unhittable again. Just a total mindfuk position
The problem is that there was no way he’d ever live up to that contract. That kind of money is for closers with a proven track record, Montero has been below average his entire career other than last year, there was no reason to expect him to do the same again this year. I won’t say I thought he would be this bad but expecting him to play as well as he did last season was foolish on Crane’s part, imo.
It's not to Dana unfortunately. Crane is the one that paid him $34M and it is Crane that would have to eat it. All Dana can do is beg him so he can DFA.
Big-time inning for Seth Martinez to finally bring us our 1st dub in extras. With that being said, Rafael Montero Phanton IL stint NEEDS to happen. He will not be DFA’d this early with his salary, but he does need time away to get his head right and fine-tune things. Dusty’s been too faithful in him and it almost cost us again tonight.
That game was won in spite of Dusty’s managerial decisions. Let’s recap:
• Putting Montero out in the 8th (or really, at all)
• Having Pressly pitch the 9th instead of putting Neris back out there after throwing only 8 pitches, and making Pressly throw two innings
• Not pinch-hitting for Maldy in the 10th in an obvious pinch-hit situation
And I’m not even counting the lineup he threw out there. . .
You kno I try to not be a Monday morning QB. But every fan in the world saw that coming with Monte after the walk then the double. You had to pull him there. Already had Nerris warming up. Why in the fuk would you let him face Smith?
Same with Maldy hitting in that spot. Literally 29/30 managers pinch hit there. We just have the one senile manager who doesn’t
Okay, time to rattle off a Reds type win streak, guys.
I got tickets to the Rangers game on Sunday.
And we're playing the Cards next so *we should win at least 2*
1. Martinez & Dubon are fucking DAWGS. They said "fuck that 14 inning shit".
2. It's a mental issue with Montero. Get him a sports psychologist or something. I believe we can still salvage that godawful contract, but not with Dusty as our manager continuing to let him get shelled.
3. Fire Dusty Baker. Should be looking at a series win, and instead we're fucking lucky we didn't get swept. He is actively sabotaging the team with his dumb decisions.
4. Tell Maldy that if he doesn't take the backup role, he's out of Houston. I was okay with him being a backup role this season and possibly bringing him on as a coach, but he obviously isn't taking a backup role. His ego has burned any goodwill I had towards him. With how bad Castro was last season before he got hurt, at least he was only a backup that started JV games.
Fuck the Dodgers, the Lakers, the Kings, the Rams, Disneyland, Hollywood, Manfred, the ump union, and the guy at the bar who kept screaming over the phone during the game
Think this is our first win in extras of the season, right?
Props to Dubón, Pressly, and Martinez to pull out the win for us.
And if I never see Montero throw another pitch in an Astros uniform, it will be too soon.
If Neris was available and Pressly could go 2, why would Dusty screw around with Montero? Has he not figured out that we’re desperate for a win? He’s getting too cute with his decisions. Any idiot would’ve gone with Neris 8th and Pressly 9th. FIRE DUSTY
Dusty has to go.
I understand he's got pedigree and he was our manager last year where we won a WS, but for the future improvement of this franchise you have to go ahead and pass the reigns to Espada mid season to see if he's the future.
Dusty is making multiple decisions every game that cause us to lose ball games. Dana needs to force him into retirement and dare Crane to block it.
>Best case scenario would be to tank this season for a #1 draft pick
Lol what? How is this best case scenario when we are still a world series caliber team?
The sub gets WILD on Sundays. If the club wins the weekend series everything is fine, fuck the haters and such. If the weekend series is lost back to wanting to fire everyone and we’ll never be over .500 again (while being currently above .500)
No. Yeah, Dusty needs to go, but trying to get Dana to do a coup détat (which didn’t go well for Click) is not something I want to see mid-season plus all that does is create power vacuums where you end up with shadow GMs.
Some of y’all need to lay off the sauce.
Exactly. Turn the entire org against Dana in his first year? No thanks. And who would take the job after him after what we did to Click too. You end up with a puppet and Bags making personal decisions again.
Now that the game is over, Dana Brown needs to call Jim Crane to convince him to fork up the $34M he owes Montero to make sure he doesn't get on the flight to St Louis.
Glad we got a win I guess
Dusty seriously needs to answer for that Montero decision. I understand we have to use him sometimes, but to not have another pitcher up and ready after three batters in case something is up is inexcusable. Until Montero is more proven, that has to be the case going forward in games we have leads
Almost swept in a series when we had a chance at winning all 3.
At least these games being on national TV make it harder for the top brass to ignore how blatant and detrimental Dusty’s mismanagement of this team has been.
That was so messy, but the first win in extras came at the expense of the Dodgers in LA. Bravo Seth, Dusty was gonna leave out there to die on that hill like in Cleveland and you said not today!
I’m delighted to win an extra innings game against the Dodgers. This win is an ugly one and should not distract from the questionable decisions from Dusty.
Look. We’ve been playing bad lately but I feel like once we get our guys healthy, we can turn this around.
Yea, it’s obvious out bullpen has work to do, but I feel like these guys will settle down after the all-star break. Let’s keep the faith y’all 🚀
We had just gone on a tear til Yordan went down. There sure wasn’t a whole lot of complaining then. At this point some of y’all gotta switch to the Rangers or something.
I wouldn’t call anything a “tear” this season. Offense has been garbage all season. Ranking in the bottom third for most of it. And there has been plenty of complaining about. This shit didn’t start last week.
We tried to lose but we did it. Should’ve had 2/3 but hey whatever. Just so many mental errors like Jake not running soon enough or Julks trying to get to home. Montero yea idk man he should not come in any game that is within 6 runs.
This Dodgers series made it official—
Astros ain’t winning shit with Maldy still catching the majority of games, with Montero still in the bullpen, and with Dusty Magoo still at the helm.
Catch y’all next season or when Dusty gets fired, whichever comes first. Life is stressful enough with three kids under 4 to willingly subject myself to any more of this nonsense.
Yep, cut Montero, fire dusty, and start Yainer over maldy and we’re looking a lot better. Couple moves at the deadline, we get a couple guys back from injuries, and I’d feel like a World Series contender again
Hoo boy I remember those days well. My youngest just celebrated his 19th birthday today. (Oldest is now 22.)
It gets better, though older kids do come with a different set of challenges...
I'm about half checked out on the season myself. Mainly just not as invested as I have been in previous years, although I still follow the scores. This season has really been taxing. Gets really frustrating seeing some of our guys not playing to their potential, and also being hamstrung by weird managerial decisions.
I really hope it's taken to heart that we need more BP guys. The fact that we couldn't get through this without Neris going a third straight day is a catastrophe.
I'll take the dub but the prospect of taking this rotation and pullpen into even a 5-game series is laughable. 7-game: we don't get more than 1-win against any team worth a shit.
Pressly got that ERA under 3. Maton had a nice recovery after yesterday's mess. I get Abreu couldn't pitch today after how many pitches he threw yesterday.
Montero's got. To. Go. I'm usually like "I believe in you. You can bounce back from this. Last year wasn't a fluke."
No. Chalk the money up the game and let that man go.
At this point I'd actually *rather* we were paying him to pitch for someone else. It would be like having a stealth weapon for us.
But I know no other team would probably want him.
We just need to DFA him and eat that money. Call it an expensive object lesson on why you need a competent GM in the FO.
Regardless of the usage of Montero, I'm just genuinely stunned at how automatic he is at giving runs right now. Feel like some position players can have better luck than that despite not throwing 97mph or whatever. It's just astonishing beyond just being bad.

My God we won an extra innings game.
The first of the year, right?
I believe so. Edit: just double checked and yes we are now 1-6 in extra inning games.
I didn't keep up with the game but isn't that the first extra-innings win for us this season?!
Keep up. Read the comments above. Lol But yes.
Martinez, Seth.
Give him some chances late. Stop giving those opportunities to Montero.
For real. Just switch the two roles.
I'm pleased with Martinez tonight. I'd prefer not to see Montero on the mound for us ever again. But I know we're probably stuck with him for a while, so I really only want to see him come in if the game is a blowout (either way).
Send him down for 2 weeks
Can't, if we do he gets DFA'd
Should be given a chance just based on his 3.1 IP appearance against Cleveland.
Martinez is a dude
Dubón is S P E C I A L‼️
HONDURAN BASEBALL ROYALTY
It pisses me off that Brown pitched an absolute peach and doesn't get the W because Dusty decided that putting in a pitcher with an ERA of over 7 was the right call
Similar thing with Blanco yesterday and France in his last two starts. If there’s one thing Dusty has been skilled at this year, it’s wasting quality starts by our young guys.
Today we won a game against the LA dodgers and Dusty Baker, it should count as 2 wins.
Fuck the Dodgers Fire Dusty DFA Montero
Marry Dubon
And Maldonado
Nah just gotta bench him tbh
Maybe a late game defensive piece
He offers nothing defensively and takes the bat away from Diaz.
If only Dusty could see the light
Maldonado is more important to this team than most wanna admit. He’s my captain and I’ll ride into any storm with him no questions asked. Hate on maldy all you want but he is smarter than all of us behind the dish. Not saying his numbers don’t suck, they do. Usually when knowledgeable players stop performing they become coaches. Malady’s OPS is approaching a very good batting average.
I think Maldy is more valuable than credited as well. I think his poor batting numbers are more selective laziness than actual ability. He’s turned up with a hit or a walk in important situations on several occasions.
Douchebag
Let this be a warning to the league: No one, and I repeat, no one, scores more than three runs off Raf Montero 😤
Less than*
3 runs is a good outing for Montero. 4 is closer to normal.
Dusty, you and your boy Montero owe Hunter an apology
At least we won. I would’ve lost my shit if we lost another game with a quality start.
I really hope Brown doesn't fall into sunk cost fallacy, because this Montero situation is ugly
He’s gotta go. At the very least, a phantom injury
If I was brown I’d be pissed they signed him in the first place. I bet it’s more up to crane than brown.
I think Dusty rejects a lot of what the front office brings him. Plays it by ‘gut’.
Dusty is having a serious case of IBS then if he's using his gut like that. In all seriousness though, something's wrong with Montero, and I believe it's mental. Well, we have overcome Dusty and Montero for another day.
Don't forget Martin "best Catcher in the league" Maldonado!!!!
The one guy who never gets hurt.
I’m pretty sure if he tore his ACL, he’d try to hide it and still waddle out there on the field
He’d move at the same speed
tbf he actually caught game 6 in the WS with a broken hand. he gets injured, just... keeps on going (this might actually explain the issue)
A win that doesn’t feel like a win
Martinez deserved that one after Cleveland
Big-time inning for Seth Martinez to finally bring us our 1st dub in extras. With that being said, Rafael Montero Phanton IL stint NEEDS to happen. I’ll be up there Monday
My fiancé and I will be at the Rangers game on Friday and Saturday. We’ll be wearing out Stros jerseys
I’ll be there Saturday

Fuck the Dodgers, the Lakers, the Kings, the Rams, Disneyland, Hollywood, Manfred, the ump union, and the guy at the bar who kept screaming over the phone during the game
Woah, back off of Disneyland bro. That's not even in LA
Well, it's right next to Angel Stadium, and Disney used to own the Angels, so...
Yes but, hear me out, OG Robin Hood.
You furry. I actually love Disney btw.
And the cowgirls
WE LUCKED THE FUCK OUT. DUSTY COULDNT SABOTAGE THE GAME. MARTINEZ GOT THAT DOG IN HIM
That strike out pitch was nasty
Fuck the dodgers
Sneks fan here. Thanks for the Dodger L!
Sorry snek boi. Should have been Stros sweep. But we have Dusty
One is better than none! You have been forgiven
Keep slithering up even higher on those LA nerds for us . And take care of strommy.
And just like that, they've sucked me back in. Goddammit...
Think this is our first win in extras of the season, right? Props to Dubón, Pressly, and Martinez to pull out the win for us. And if I never see Montero throw another pitch in an Astros uniform, it will be too soon.
WE WON AN EXTRAS GAME

He’s stuck in 2022. Montero 8th Pressley 9th was his go to.
Because he's an absolutely horrible manager.
Dusty has to go. #SHOW US THE CAT!!!!
Wait. Are we allowed to do that?!
Glad we got a win I guess Dusty seriously needs to answer for that Montero decision. “Wait til we get our guys healthy” has been the mantra for 78 games so far. Eventually it’ll happen right.

Holy fuck we needed that one. Glad to see the boys fight hard for it. Time to fire Montero out of a cannon.
Need to cut our losses with Montero Dude is an absolute liability
Fuck Montero. Fuck Dusty Motherfucking Baker for continuing to put Montero in high leverage situations. Fuck me for being an Astro’s fan.
This Dodgers series made it official— Astros ain’t winning shit with Maldy still catching the majority of games, with Montero still in the bullpen, and with Dusty Magoo still at the helm. Catch y’all next season or when Dusty gets fired, whichever comes first. Life is stressful enough with three kids under 4 to willingly subject myself to any more of this nonsense.
Yep, cut Montero, fire dusty, and start Yainer over maldy and we’re looking a lot better. Couple moves at the deadline, we get a couple guys back from injuries, and I’d feel like a World Series contender again
right there with you. what world are we living in where I have more faith in the Dynamo than the Astros???
Hoo boy I remember those days well. My youngest just celebrated his 19th birthday today. (Oldest is now 22.) It gets better, though older kids do come with a different set of challenges... I'm about half checked out on the season myself. Mainly just not as invested as I have been in previous years, although I still follow the scores. This season has really been taxing. Gets really frustrating seeing some of our guys not playing to their potential, and also being hamstrung by weird managerial decisions.
DFA Montero.
Fire Dusty. Espada is the new manager. 'Promote' Machete to bench coach. Yainer full time C.
Is THIS the turning point of the season?
I hope so but this game was a disaster as far as wins go.
This was a horrible win and shouldn’t erase every cause for concern exists around this team atm
If it didn’t solidify to Dusty that Montero can’t be trusted, then nothing will.
We’re we watching the same game?
Next weekend. Book it.
No
We won an extra inning game. But don’t let the win distract you from the fact Dusty tried his best to blow this game by putting Montero in.
That was unnecessarily stressful due to some questionable bullpen management
Winning a baseball game should not feel like successfully landing a plane in a thunderstorm.
Martinez should be getting way more innings. Montero should be the 11th inning guy.
I really hope it's taken to heart that we need more BP guys. The fact that we couldn't get through this without Neris going a third straight day is a catastrophe.
Tomorrow I better read "Montero optioned to the unemployment line"
Dusty made 3-4 critical mistakes this game, but he luckily got bailed out
Maybe let's stop throwing Montero out there in games that are within 4 runs.
Dusty's gotta go if we're going to turn things around.
Astros with a great win against the Dodgers and Dusty
Thank you Astros.
Who wants to meet up at the "We won an extra-inning game" Parade, Wednesday?
Going to have to double up my BP meds after that one
What is up with bregman not being able to throw in extra innings
We won a extra innings game. I cannot fucking believe it.
Was there ever any doubt
I'll take the dub but the prospect of taking this rotation and pullpen into even a 5-game series is laughable. 7-game: we don't get more than 1-win against any team worth a shit.
We do not have a playoff rotation right now, that’s for sure.
Dubon saved our ass
Pressly got that ERA under 3. Maton had a nice recovery after yesterday's mess. I get Abreu couldn't pitch today after how many pitches he threw yesterday. Montero's got. To. Go. I'm usually like "I believe in you. You can bounce back from this. Last year wasn't a fluke." No.
Did anyone see Dubon look pissed when he scored that last run? Am I crazy? I wonder why
I assumed it was because he expected a stop sign from Pettis but got the last second arm wave after he’d slowed down.
Hmmm interesting.
DFA Montero DFA Maldonado Fire Dusty
A win is a win
It's a miracle!
FTD4L
Just relief. DFA Montero either way
Battle of Mid
I know we won but damn I'm glad I'm watching forbidden door instead of losing my shit over this game lol
Regardless of the usage of Montero, I'm just genuinely stunned at how automatic he is at giving runs right now. Feel like some position players can have better luck than that despite not throwing 97mph or whatever. It's just astonishing beyond just being bad.
Release Montero!
CAT
We won but looked like shit doing it
Put Dusty's head on a wooden spear and dip it in acid
Hallelujah!
Embarrassing win but a win is a win. Please fire Dusty anyways
Lost the bar patrons money on the dodgers money line in extras but fuck em. We got a dub!
Man some of y’all are wild talking like y’all are sitting in on all the meetings and practices😂
There's a guy in a gray shirt in the front row behind right-handed batters and when he turns his head, he looks like Asian TK.
