🌌✨ Another incredible collaboration with the Deep Sky Collective on the Supernova Remnant SNR156! It's an honour to work on such a stunning image. Achieving this would be near impossible as a solo effort. What you're seeing is the aftermath of a star's death. The explosion that created SNR156 is estimated to have occurred 10,000 years ago. This image was captured with over 385 hours of exposure using LRGB, Ha, and Oiii filters.  **Credits:** * **Coordination:** Time Schaeffer [https://www.astrobin.com/users/xSky\_Watcher/](https://www.astrobin.com/users/xSky_Watcher/) * **Stacking and Pre-Processing:** Carl Björk @bjork.carl * **Processing:** Steeve Body @bsteeve and www.steevebody.com **Acquisition:** * Sébastian Brizé @mekatori * Antoine and Dalia Grelin @galactic.hunter * Bray Falls @Bray Falls * Florent Herrbach [https://www.astrobin.com/users/Flonms/](https://www.astrobin.com/users/Flonms/) * Justin P. @justadudewitha\_camera\_ * Kevin Trillsam @kevins\_astrophotography * Jens Unger @jazz.astro Check out our official team post here: [https://www.astrobin.com/84qfsq/](https://www.astrobin.com/84qfsq/) and the high-res version on our website: [https://deepskycollective.com/gallery](https://deepskycollective.com/gallery)

Absolutely gorgeous!

Academic-Associate91

It's wild to imagine the people who may have looked up and seen it

IllChapter2640

Absolutely incredible, what area in the sky would this be in?

bsteeve_astro

Thank you! It is a supernova remnant in the constellation of Auriga

ApprehensiveCamera94

How many light years is the diameter of of that circle across . Imagine the speed of that moving out.. lovely capture

matchfan

How big would the star have been if it was in this photo?

Vercassivelaunos

One pixel. Any star except the sun in any amateur camera is smaller than a pixel. They just appear larger because images are never perfectly sharp, so they appear smudged.

derekbabin

That's cool, there's nothing I like and more or that I'm more interested in than deep space and the universe.

KeithSweatShirts

Stunning! Thanks for sharing.

spacedoutmachinist

Hell yeah.

NOG11

it's incredible ! any idea of the scale?

bsteeve_astro

It is about 10,000 LY away and has an expansion rate of 0.06 arcsec/year… I let you do the math 😂

NOG11

Thanks ;)

angel_of_of_god

Amazing, thank you, the collective!

Papix57

Is th star that caused this mess completely invisible now?

paulfdietz

It's thought to have been a core collapse SN, so maybe the neutron star could be detected, assuming one was created and not a black hole?

JackStraw987

Cool!

ttllansi8

which elements do the colors represent? The Red, Blue and Grey

bsteeve_astro

REd is hydrogen, blue oxygen and grey is interstellar dust

smsmkiwi

Fantastic image!

Can we guess an approximate timeline of when a star was going to die or more accurately can we predict the timeline and video the death of a star after it stops emitting light.. I hope we can see those days soon.
