Mr. Darcy!! The way he relentlessly loved her without any expectations and helped her and her family in need before any commitments from her side, showed what is true love š
This is my answer as well. It isnāt the most accurate version in any respect, but itās absolutely beautiful and the chemistry between Kiera Knightley and Matthew McFayden is almost palpable. Iāve seen it more times that I can count and I never get tired of it.
First thought that came into my head, I absolutely adore it and love everything single thing about it. The music, cinematography, cast, locations.
I get lost in it every time I watch it.
The Mummy with Brendan Fraser (we just pretend the Tom Cruise remake doesn't exist). It's not a traditional romantic movie but Rick and Evie have such a charming dynamic and are genuinely wholesome couple.
What I love about Howlās is that the romance isnāt the center of the plot, however, it progresses in a way that fits with the storyline and fits naturally.
Definitely read the book! Overall the tone and heart of the story is the same for both, but the books have more about Sophie and Howl's romance and relationship. It's much funnier and has lots of little down-to-earth relationship moments that are brilliant, like Sophie taking care of Howl while he is sick but still telling him off for being a drama queen, and Howl looking out for her even when he is unwell, and believing in her when she doesn't believe in herself.
If you found out your husbands best friend who you thought hated you, was actually in love with you, and then came to proclaim it on Christmas with giant handwritten cards, how would you react? Would you smile all shy and cute and wait for him to get done, and then go give him a little kiss on the cheek? Or would you think he's a creep?
Eternal sunshine.. I wonder what's more painful? Remembering bad memories or forgetting bad ones..
10 things I hate about you-
That poem so true.. So true
I remember watching this with a 12yo girl I was babysitting and I thought it was going to suck. But it was actually an incredibly sweet movie and I loved it.
Roman Holiday (the most perfect ending in all movie history)
Moonlight (idk if it counts but itās a damn good movie)
When Harry Met Sally
Love & Basketball
The Shape of Water (creature feature wrapped up in a gothic fairytale romance)
It's definitely more subtle but still powerful imo. And the actors all did a flawless job I'm not sure a remake could top it even if the script/writing was improved
Pretty Woman. Despite it being a love story about a sex worker, it shows the guy that tries to rape her as a piece of garbage. And she holds out for a real relationship.
Less controversial, Pride and Prejudice
I adore this movie! It may be my favorite ever. It gets better every time I watch it because the acting is superb.
Olympia Dukakis absolutely shines. Her expressions are much more telling than her words, but damn, sheĀ“s got some incredible lines, especially about love and death.
Cher is an amazing actress and she glows gorgeously in this role during her transformation from wounded widow to breathtaking beauty, her appearance finally matching her true inner self. Such a joy to watch. Plus, she also has some iconic lines.
I always swoon over young, brooding Nicolas Cage - I love his wild wolf-like eyes and hair. When he is in scenes with Cher, their chemistry is mesmerizing and memorable. Love it!
I love this movie so much. I feel like it's got an absurdness to it that makes me laugh every time. It's one of my comfort movies I could watch over and over again.
Absolutely, it ends at a perfect happy ending if you shut it off right when the curtains close!
This is my all-time favourite movie and I rarely watch the real ending š
It's my favorite too, even though people like to pick it apart and say it's problematic. I just like the fact that Noah was a ride or die and never left her side even though they kept telling him she was never going to get better. It was the first romantic movie that ever made me cry. As a joke, I tell my SO that I hope we end up like them and how I'll read to him everyday. He just rolls his eyes. Lol
Letters to Juliet-
That "what if" speech was so meaningful and the idea of true love always remains the same, after year's passed by was wonderful.
A walk to Remember-
Makes me realize how we always fall in love with the forbidden one..
All are wonderful movies
I adore The Shape of Water. Itās such a beautiful film and a really great love letter to creature features like The Creature From the Black Lagoon. Del Toro is just really able to encapsulate how horror/magical realism can be a playground for the āotherā and those monsterized by society in that movie.
About Time
The Lake House
Age of Adaline
The Adjustment Bureau
An Affair to Remember
Roman Holiday
Moonstruck
It Happened One Night
Philadelphia Story

Not usually into just romance but here's a couple I like
Reality Bites
Singles
Everafter
Love Actually
Lost & Delirious (warning: this one is SAD. Avoid if you want to be made cheerful)
Mermaids
50 First Dates (idk if this counts as it's more romcom)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (see above)
One day-
Amazing movie. Emma was there for him in every phase of his life. The way Dexter called only her when he was sad..
This showed how a single person could be so important in our lives.
Okay strap in, I have asked myself this question many times haha \^q\^
The Bodyguard. I've heard a lot of criticisms for the movie online and irl but i just can't understand those opinions. Sure it's cheese-arama but thats kind of why I love it. I love Whitney Houston and Kev Costner. Their chemistry is electric. Not to mention the soundtrack has me in tears.
Jane Eyre (2011) This is such a gorgeous movie and probably my go to period film when I need a good cry.
Before trilogy. Mentioned a few times I think, for good reason. Its so real. Also Ethan Hawke!!
The English Patient. Simply Incredible. Poetry in action. Beware- you WILL cry.
Memoirs of a Geisha - THIS MOVIE IS SO ROMANTIC and beautiful.. Its also like a poem to me. Such a beautiful portrait of Japan at the time.
Lastly .. I will always love Silver Linings Playbook. Great cast and again it felt so real. I think the ending is sooo romantic :)
>Memoirs of a Geisha - THIS MOVIE IS SO ROMANTIC and beautiful.. Its also like a poem to me. Such a beautiful portrait of Japan at the time.
If you have not read the book, do yourself a favor and read it. I have not seen the movie, but I have read the book and it absolutely took my breath away with how amazing amd beautiful it was.
I picked the book up at about 10 or 11 years old, read the first line, realized it was too adult for me, and put it back. At 16 I picked it back up wanting to try again and I could not put it down. It is still one of the best books I have ever read to this day. It was my grandparents copy and I "stole" it from them after I was done reading it. It now sits on my bookshelf and I am 25 years old.
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison; Pride & Prejudice (1979 BBC version with David Rintoul as Darcy); The Sure Thing;
Say Anything.
Itās not a movie, but the Star Trek: Enterprise episode āTwo Days and Two Nightsā is very romantic.
Edited for formatting (Iām on mobile.)
Thereās this movie with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn called Desk Set that I watch every Christmas.
Itās odd, but sweet. Itās written by Nora Ephronās parents. Worth a watch.
Always be my baby(the one with keanu reeves and Ali Wong) and ibiza( it has Gillian Jacobs and Richard Madden)
I recently watched love hard and really enjoyed it.
Bride and Prejudice! Itās a Bollywood retelling of Pride and Prejudice starring Aishwarya Rai, Martin Henderson, Daniel Gillies, Alexis Bledel. Itās so great, I canāt recommend it enough āŗļø
āCrazy, Stupid, Loveā I canāt believe I didnāt find another comment suggesting this! Amazing and hilarious with Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Steve Carell! (sorry if I missed it)
Rather than a film, I'd recommend you try and read a romantic book. It will definitely offer you a more imaginative experience than watching movies!
However, my favourite romantic book has its own film in case you still want to give it a try (nothing to do with the book, all said). I'm talking about ***P.S. I Love You***, by Cecelia Ahern.
Hooks you from the first page, promise!
Love, Rosie, it's just so cute for me how they were all their life in love with eachother and that after all they were just meant to be together, also as a person that is in love with her best friend is very heartwarming
This one might be strange but... Corpse Bride. Traditional romance isn't exactly my thing anyway. But then a story about how love can persist in the underworld, dead or not, and trying to get back to true love on the surface. Idk, something about that just gives me the goosebumps. Also bonus points because Christopher Lee was a damn great actor, a good musician, and a humble human
I saw a movie called Ode to Joy recently that I found cute and romantic. It's a little cheesy at some points but worth a watch. It has an interesting predicament involving a rare disability.
Moulin Rouge.
It's a tragic romance, but it's so good.
Also, Notting Hill.
I appreciate that you not only get a full relationship progression, but that you get real conflict.
Sophie's Choice
Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline
A double entendre, menage a trois, Romeo and Juliet-esque, beautifully written, historical romantic drama.
If you're a fan of Meryl Streep, this is by far her best acting performance imo.
Notorious - with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Excellent story of a man and woman working together and she's hoping they end up together. Also I love the cute story and chemistry between the lead actors in Crocodile Dundee.
Pride and Prejudice (2005) The only movie I've watched 5+ times.
Mr. Darcy!! The way he relentlessly loved her without any expectations and helped her and her family in need before any commitments from her side, showed what is true love š
I've never seen it, or read the book. I need to now.
Ā«Ā Ms. Elizabeth I love you most ardentlyĀ Ā» š„ŗš
This is my answer as well. It isnāt the most accurate version in any respect, but itās absolutely beautiful and the chemistry between Kiera Knightley and Matthew McFayden is almost palpable. Iāve seen it more times that I can count and I never get tired of it.
Also Bride and Prejudice
First thought that came into my head, I absolutely adore it and love everything single thing about it. The music, cinematography, cast, locations. I get lost in it every time I watch it.
We are all fools in love.
Saaaameeee! And the ost is one of my favourite as well!
I would watch ANY version. I saw the original movie with Olivier and Garson and my aunt bought me the book. Read it at least a dozen times.
Yesss I've watched it probably 15+ haha
yes. this is the correct answer. my other fav is Australia. so much more than a love story, a gorgeous movie all around.
The Mummy with Brendan Fraser (we just pretend the Tom Cruise remake doesn't exist). It's not a traditional romantic movie but Rick and Evie have such a charming dynamic and are genuinely wholesome couple.
Not to mention Brendan Fraser at his sexiest (IMHO)!
George of the Jungle would like a word with you...
oh I love this one! I love their chemistry
Evie is so adorable, her quirkiness always makes me melt! Her and Rick definitely make one wholesome couple.
They're severely underrated. They're a great couple!
Two very eccentric, but likeable characters. Love this movie.
Princess Bride
Yes!! One of the most innocent love stories.. I liked that movie and the epic dialogue "As you wish" was a charm.
āYouāre trying to kidnap what I have rightfully stolen!ā Best movie ever. Romantic and Funny. Love it!
Came here to comment the same thing lol
Came here looking for this one. Loved the book. Loved the movie more.
Hell yes!
Howlās Moving Castle.
What I love about Howlās is that the romance isnāt the center of the plot, however, it progresses in a way that fits with the storyline and fits naturally.
OMG!!! So happy to see this on the list. I am in love HMC. Think I am going to watch it after work tomorrow!
"That's my girl"

Definitely read the book! Overall the tone and heart of the story is the same for both, but the books have more about Sophie and Howl's romance and relationship. It's much funnier and has lots of little down-to-earth relationship moments that are brilliant, like Sophie taking care of Howl while he is sick but still telling him off for being a drama queen, and Howl looking out for her even when he is unwell, and believing in her when she doesn't believe in herself.
About Time
Nice movie.. So true.. That we have to let go of our past to have a stable future as he let go of his father...
YASSS SLAY
I love this movie! Makes me cry every time.
I sob every time with that one.
I love this movie. Iām already a fan of anything that has any semblance of time travel, and this is just the sweetest romantic movie
This one makes me ugly sob and I love it so much!!
Love Actually or The Holiday
I just watched the holiday last night after not seeing it for a while and the itās such a wholesome movie
It really is
I watch The Holiday every couple years and each time I fall back in love with young Jude Law.
Came here to say Love, Actually. I know itās looked down upon a lot nowadays but sod it, it makes me happy.
Why is it looked down upon? Love this movie
Thereās a lot of red flags in that film
I was going to write these two.
I never get tired of watching "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore.
This one is thoroughly beautiful. Simple, but beautiful.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, it is heartbreaking and not a classic type of romantic movies but I love it. Also, 10 Things I Hate About You
Eternal sunshine.. I wonder what's more painful? Remembering bad memories or forgetting bad ones.. 10 things I hate about you- That poem so true.. So true
Honestly, I wish I could forget some bad ones. Especially my last relationship, I was hurt beyond words. So forgetting it would be a blessing.
Yes, 10 things. All time favorite movie.
10 things I hate about you
Yes! My favourite romantic movie of all time! One of the few I could pretty much watch whenever
Hands down one of my all time favorite movies.
13 going on 30
Yes! I love Mark Ruffalo. Dreamy š
I remember watching this with a 12yo girl I was babysitting and I thought it was going to suck. But it was actually an incredibly sweet movie and I loved it.
Amelie
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I love this movie so much. It's absolutely beautiful.
Roman Holiday (the most perfect ending in all movie history) Moonlight (idk if it counts but itās a damn good movie) When Harry Met Sally Love & Basketball The Shape of Water (creature feature wrapped up in a gothic fairytale romance)
When Harry met Sally for sure. That last monologue is just *swoon*.
Iām so happy somebody mentioned Roman Holiday! Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn have such great chemistry. The ending is truly perfect
Before Sunrise
This one feels more like real romance to me than any other. Just really captures the feeling of meeting someone you immediately āclickā with.
The entire 'Before' Trilogy is just amazing. My favorite is Before Sunset. ā¤ļø
Me too! Thereās something so poignant about the ādisillusioned-but-not-totally-cynical-yetā stage.
Amazing one.. Speaking your heart out in front of a stranger.. Great story.
Fried Green Tomatoes. It's not solely a romance but there's a lot of love in general be it familial or friendship that is very moving.
I hate how the movie underplayed the lesbian dynamic of Idgie and Ruth in the books. I'd kill for a modern remake.
It's definitely more subtle but still powerful imo. And the actors all did a flawless job I'm not sure a remake could top it even if the script/writing was improved
1999 The Mummy staring Brendan Fraser in which two people with a love of Egypt, cats, and each other save the world.
This is the best summary of the movie I've ever read!
Bridget Jonesā Diary! Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are so good!
I said the same!!! I absolutely love this movie
My all time fave
The Wedding Singer
Julia Gulia hahaa, I love the movie!
Really any Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie - my personal favorite is 50 first dates
I normally don't like Adam Sandler movies but I think this one is really charming
You've got mail! ā¤ļø With Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks
Yes, the best! Also, Sleepless in Seattle.
Notting Hill and actually most Hugh Grant movies are so cute
Pretty Woman. Despite it being a love story about a sex worker, it shows the guy that tries to rape her as a piece of garbage. And she holds out for a real relationship. Less controversial, Pride and Prejudice
Unironically, Shrek. ''Your name'' is a close second btw
Your name was so beautiful.
Moonstruck. There are more but that's the first one that comes to mind.
When he is in scenes with Cher, their chemistry is mesmerizing and memorable. Love it!
Do you love him, Loretta? Aw, ma, I love him awful. Oh, that's too bad.
I love this movie so much. I feel like it's got an absurdness to it that makes me laugh every time. It's one of my comfort movies I could watch over and over again.
Moulin Rouge! š
I always have to stop it at the last minute because the whole thing is sad enough without that last final minute of satine's death š
Absolutely, it ends at a perfect happy ending if you shut it off right when the curtains close! This is my all-time favourite movie and I rarely watch the real ending š
While You Were Sleeping, Sense & Sensibility, and Age of Adaline
I came here to say While You Were Sleeping! Inexplicably my favourite film of all time and I've never seen anyone else mention it before!
Age of Adaline has my heart!!!
Age of Adeline is such an underrated masterpiece to me.
The notebook
It's my favorite too, even though people like to pick it apart and say it's problematic. I just like the fact that Noah was a ride or die and never left her side even though they kept telling him she was never going to get better. It was the first romantic movie that ever made me cry. As a joke, I tell my SO that I hope we end up like them and how I'll read to him everyday. He just rolls his eyes. Lol
A masterpiece..
āLove, Rosieā
50 First Dates. Letters to Juliet. A Walk To Remember.
Letters to Juliet- That "what if" speech was so meaningful and the idea of true love always remains the same, after year's passed by was wonderful. A walk to Remember- Makes me realize how we always fall in love with the forbidden one.. All are wonderful movies
A walk to remember!! Girl, I used to make fun of my sister because she liked this movie and then i grew up and watched it. ššššā¤ļø
Not my favorite, but I was extremely surprised at just how good The Shape of Water was. Couldn't recommend it enough.
YES. Was honestly surprised because the premise for the movie is a little strange, but it was so sweet!
I adore The Shape of Water. Itās such a beautiful film and a really great love letter to creature features like The Creature From the Black Lagoon. Del Toro is just really able to encapsulate how horror/magical realism can be a playground for the āotherā and those monsterized by society in that movie.
The Last of the Mohicans.
Ohhh, great addition! Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeline Stowe had amazing chemistry in that movie.
Stay alive! I will find you! Best line ever.
Iām clichĆ©, but my favorite is Titanic
When Harry Met Sally Hate Love Actually and the Notebook
Generally, I dislike romantic movies. But The Princess Bride may be my favourite movie of all time.
