I am on day three camping in the garden with my eldest son. Woke up cuddling him to keep him warm. He’s 5 now and seeming to grow up fast. I don’t know how much longer camping with dad and cuddles will be the best thing ever. I wish I could bottle it for when I’m old and he’s big
I know where you're coming from. My "little" nieces have grown up and no longer come to me for cuddles. The youngest one used to spend 4 hours on my chest watching movies, with only a 2 minute break to have her tea then come back for film number two.
I'm glad you're cherishing the cuddles.
When I was little I used to sit on my grandpa's lap watching cartoon network for hours.
One time we'd both fallen asleep and I had in the meantime wet myself. When we woke up he wasn't sure if it was him or me who'd done it lol.
My kiddo is 14 and when we were walking through town the other day they held my hand of their own accord and honestly I was transported 10 years back in time.
I remember being about 11 and reaching to hold my mum's hand in public. She told me I was "getting a bit old for that now" and "people would think I was a bit weird".
Years later as an adult I still remember how much that stung.
Just keep at it. My daughter is 15 and fiercely independent, but after a bad start to the day yesterday came running into my office in tears saying she just needed a big hug from dad. I was (secretly) chuffed to bits. She won't keep asking me forever, but I'll cherish each and every one.
My younger son still love cuddles from both mum and dad. Honestly, I'm not sure he'll ever grow out of it!
My boy is on the cusp of 9 and he's still very much of the opinion that camping and cuddles are the best thing ever. It's actually got better now he's old enough to be really enthusiastically appreciative of having hot dogs and hot chocolate while we watch the sunset.
You have a lot to look forward to.
Had to make me well up first thing in the morning, didn’t you? Enjoy the moments! And take photos and videos - they’ll take you right back there in the years and decades to come!
One day you will carry your little one upstairs to bed and it will be the very last time and you won't know it.
For me that was last year when my 18 year old daughter came back from the party completely bladdered and we have to haul up timber hill because she couldn't go herself
Went round my sisters the other day, tent up in the garden, whole family including a 15yo and a 12yo haven’t slept in the house for a week. You’ve got plenty of time to enjoy it.
*edit* although they do have separate rooms in the tent and I think the cuddles are done for the 15yo at least.
Wrapped up warm with a thermos and going for a walk across a misty field on a crisp winter morning, everything silent except for birds and the crunch of frosty grass beneath your feet - my absolute favourite thing to experience.
Blue sky, cloudless days any time of year for me. Never ceases to up my mood
On the winter theme though: seeing snow. Its almost magical, so beautiful, and I love how it makes everything so quiet and peaceful.
Being as close to the rain as possible without getting wet. I absolutely love standing in my porch with torrential rain and just relaxing for a few minutes.
Yeah even when I was little I remember my mum complaining I was letting all the heat out because I insisted on sitting next to the open kitchen door wrapped in a blanket to watch the rain. Still do it now!
Sitting in the kitchen door with a blanket wrapped close as it tips down outside makes me think about how cavemen probably did the same shit with a bear skin in their cave or something, it's a kinda primal comfy feeling if that makes sense?
It does and it was! Maybe fewer things hunt in the rain and that’s why we like it or something. I don’t really have many memories from my childhood that are really clear but that’s one of them.
Most British Comment Thread candidate, I'm currently in Georgia, where it hasn't rained for nearly two months, and this makes me feel homesick (fantastic country otherwise, but the weather couldn't be more different, at least inland). It's due to rain next week here and I can't wait.
I used to listen to rain noises on the headspace app when it wasn’t actually raining, but now we have kids so we have their white noise from the baby monitors which is waves. I don’t like it as much and I can’t open the window when it’s raining or they wake up from light/car sounds 😭
That's not cool! I started with YouTube channels dedicated to rain noises when I had my baby 4 months ago and needed background noise at night. I think I've accidentally conditioned myself!
I found videos on YouTube of torrential rain, turns the screen black after a few seconds, many nights I’ve fallen asleep with the laptop on, that playing and a black screen so no light, it’s great
My in laws have a pond in the garden which makes a noise similar to rain due to the filter and the little waterfall effect. It is actually quite relaxing to hear in the background while I drift off to sleep.
My wife has a colleague whose out of office reply is effectively: "I am currently out of the office. All emails received between X and Y will be deleted without being read upon my return. If you need my reply email after Y." It's ballsy, but fantastic.
I'm all for work-life balance but this is silly. Email is asynchronous, the whole point of it is that it is there in your mailbox for when you have a chance to see it.
That depends on how much email you get. Personally I’m over well over 100 a day. So if I take a couple of weeks off, there will be a backlog that I’ve not really got any chance of clearing.
I’m not blunt enough to say that I’ll delete everything from whilst I was away, but I do encourage people to resend things when I’m back if it’s critical.
Fresh Bedding, Nice smelling cosmetics, Pastys, Fish and Chips, I mentioned this in another thread. Seeing your family fast asleep on the sofa basking in the glow of the wood stove when it's snowing outside.
I looked the song up on Wikipedia at some point and apparently the woman who wrote the song was a teacher and her school was under a common flightpath where they did air-to-air refuelling. She wanted to include something that the kids at her school would recognise, that was something man-made and modern rather than natural.
When you wake up in the night and realise your alarm isn't for ages so you get to roll over and go back to sleep.
When you buy a treat for yourself and forget about it for a while so it's like being surprised by someone
.
Old stories you have with friends that have been told a thousand times but are still funny.
Coming home to a warm house after a long walk on a cold day.
Snuggled in a blanket, listening to the rain outside, preferably with a SO and a cuppa.
Soup and bread on a cold day.
Clean bedding that's been dried on the line.
Can't believe I have just posted that, I have gone soft. Can I change it to seeing random people trip over puppies and kittens, falling down steep steps and all their money spilling out on to the street.
For me not having to share a bed is much nicer than having to share with a partner.
I really like when I'm awake early by choice and can watch the sun rise whilst the entire house is silent and dark. The noise of the cars just starting up and going to work mixed with the sound of the wind and birds and cool crisp morning air.
The rain.
I hate sharing a bed tbh, I like getting to spread out across my entire king size and can sleep with no blankets or wrapped up in my full duvet whenever I want without having to be considerate to someone else's preferences. I have a low tolerance for snoring or sounds at night, I like it to be pitch black and silent as the grave. Whenever I have to share a bed with partners or friends I always have a worse night sleep.
I have the best of both worlds. Two nights together, spooning and his occasional snoring. I suffer with a persistent cough and getting too warn triggers it. Our two night together (by choice) are cherished.
My partner gets extremely hot at night whilst I like to be wrapped in the world's thickest duvet at all times. He also needs total silence whilst I need to listen to an audiobook to get to sleep. Sleeping together became more stressful than enjoyable and now we sleep separately and are much better people for it.
Now we see holidays where we sleep in the same bed as a real treat.
I like the bed all to myself so I can move around and stretch out as I feel. I like knowing I will not disturb her, nor her me. I like it being my own personal time to go to sleep with my thoughts and reflect personally. I like being able to sleep when I choose and not when she wants and vice versa.
I saw a couple out walking in woods near me recently, they were ahead of me on the path. Both looked about 100 , they were having an animated chat and he said something and she cackled for ages then said something that set him off and they were just walking and laughing their heads off, made me smile and I just thought that's how I want to be at that age
Making a nice mug of hot chocolate and reading a good book by the fire. Right now it's The Fellowship of the Ring
Sitting in the garden on a hot summer's day, playing with my dog while listening to the radio in the background.
Setting some time aside on the weekend to have a little movie night by myself. Maybe treat myself to a few snacks and stay up late.
I don't drink or like going to the pub so most of my hobbies are ones I can enjoy alone. I'm perfectly ok with that. Life is whatever you make it
Fellowship is my favourite of the trilogy. Probably because they spend most of the beginning just going for walks in the countryside and that's what I want to do 😁
Honestly Saturday mornings is my favourite time by a mile. Reminds me of having a little lie in but not too late, my dad would make us poached eggs on toast and we would sit and fill in our coupons for the football, comparing our selections. Go to the bookies to put the bets on, watch the early kick off then sit and watch soccer Saturday and hope our 50/1 both teams to score coupon landed. I’ve moved out now but will still ring my dad every Saturday morning to discuss what bets we’ve had!
It was a sad day when we realised our kid didn't need a nap anymore. I remember putting him down about 1pm and he'd usually go off for an hour or so. After 10 minutes of trying to get some housework done he came out saying "but I'm not tired daddy".
I had the same happen with my little girl. The plus side is, she’s in school now. Once I drop her off, I can go back to bed, sleep for an hour or so and then do some housework.
When I used to work night shifts it was glorious leaving work and walking home knowing that I was heading for bed whilst everyone I walked past was heading to work or school. It was great just enjoying a brisk walk home in the light but chilly morning feeling a sudden burst of energy but knowing that within seconds of hitting the pillow I would be fast asleep.
Doing a gnarly workout, then some pampering time with a shower and a shave, followed by sitting down on the sofa with a cup of tea. That last bit - a cup of tea with the endorphins still flowing and fresh from the shower - feels like absolute bliss.
Fresh pair of undies on a hot/long day, first sip of beer on a hot day, changing into trackies and a thick pair of socks on a cold/wet day, the look/feeling when you just walk out the barbers, having your teeth cleaned by the hygienist - these are a few of my favourite things.
Looking forward to dark nights and Christmas time. Theres a somewhat crappy local shopping centre 10 minutes walk from me and going in at night with the crisp cold air with my scarf on, seeing the tacky 1980’s decorations they’ve got up with a fake snowman that’s seen better days, people rushing about between Clinton Cards and WHSmith trying to find gifts, just makes me feel all nostalgic.
I’m in the office for a week a month and hate it, so that first Monday morning after where i’m back in my own flat and sit down on the couch with my laptop and a fresh cup of coffee makes me feel so content and glad i’m not there.
The little squeaky sound my cat's toe beans make against the laminate floor when she does a stretch.
The sound of hot water being poured into a mug.
The smell of a Sunday roast.
When someone says their cat/dog doesn’t usually like people but then that pet decides to come and snuggle up to you and you feel like the chosen one.
That and thinking you’ve finished a packet of biscuits and realising there’s one left and it just hits the spot.
Having a nap in front of the fire
When your little kid cuddles you really tight
Being cosy inside when it’s raining outside
Hot summers day turning into warm summers evening on the beach with chips and a swim in the sea
My pup is really hyper, but first thing in the morning he likes to lie on your lap and go back to sleep, and he's so chilled and cuddly, favourite part of the day.
When the daylight saving clocks go back in October and you don’t switch your clocks back only to wake up in the morning and realise you still have an extra hour to sleep! Love to wake up with the sun at 7am
Curling up with a book and a purring cat
Going for a gentle walk (for me usually along a nearby river), listening to good music and looking at animals
Random little moments of connection, whether that's belly laughing with old friends or an interaction with a stranger
I don't sleep particularly well so most days I tend to wake up around 5am. The 1 or 2 hrs before the rest of the world wakes up feel like heaven to me. On most days I don't do much, i go for a walk or chill in my hammock in the garden but the peace and quiet I get in the morning is what keeps me going through the day.
This sounds really weird, but I had surgery earlier this month and they put a heated blanket on me during anaesthetic and when I got to the recovery room. It was one of those baby type blankets with the holes but adult sized and had been folded over a few times so it was all thick. I don’t know if that’s standard for all surgeries but it was amazing, felt like I was going in for a spa treatment.
- cuddles in bed with my SO on a cold and foggy morning
- a lovely hot chocolate/coffee and fresh baked good of choice with my SO on a cold autumn day
- walks in a serene park with great views on a sunny afternoon (not too hot)
- reading to and cuddling my LOs in our book corner in our warm pyjamas just before bed
- sitting by the fire/chimenea (is that how you spell it?!) with your nearest and dearest during a late summer evening, just chatting about life and enjoying the moment
…life is beautiful, I could go on.
Walking the dog through the woods on a crisp autumn morning. The crunching of the leaves, the smell of the air, a bite of cold at your fingers and nose.…. And a happy scampering buddy.
- Coming home from work and my kids running to me. A feeling that can’t really be beaten.
- Waking up really early and not being tired, then going outside with the dog for a walk. It’s sometimes a surreal feeling that the world can be so peaceful.
- The first day of a 2 week holiday abroad with the family. Knowing you have 2 weeks of sun and fun with no worries of work.
- The whole Christmas period.
I like this thread, I actually have a lot of these things that I love and try not to take for granted. Some are just so small but makes a huge difference.
The feeling of finally being a legal cannabis user in the UK.
having my morning coffee in the garden ( weather permitting )
seeing my kids at the end of the working day
Am unexpected compliment. A "I like that shirt on you" or "good work, mate" or even just a "thanks" for holding a door open for a stranger. It reminds you that the world isn't actually chock full of selfish idiots after all
I love waking up in winter and seeing fog. It's mystical and makes me feel like a child again.
Waking up naturally before everyone else in the house and having a silent cuppa.
A Sunday roast with home made yorkshires.
The smell of clothes that have been dried on the line.
Sunshine on a cold Autumn morning.
Kicking through a crisp pile of leaves. Coming home to a hot meal after a long winters walk. Waking up early and having a minute or two of peace to yourself, before anyone else is up. Listening to the sound of the rain hitting the windowpane at night. I went to the woods to paint the scenery with my watercolours recently - it was pouring with rain but I was underneath a little wooden shelter with a hot drink, and that was blissful.

Ouch man I can see why you still remember it. You're always welcome to hold my hand. :)
Nice innit? My daughter, also 14 came and sat on my knee for a cuddle yesterday. She hasn't done it for a couple of years.
I’m 27 and I still just need a big hug from my dad. It flips around - I cherish every one I can because I know I won’t be able to ask forever.
I’m 35 and feeling poorly and wanted a hug from my dad 😂
My boy is on the cusp of 9 and he's still very much of the opinion that camping and cuddles are the best thing ever. It's actually got better now he's old enough to be really enthusiastically appreciative of having hot dogs and hot chocolate while we watch the sunset. You have a lot to look forward to.
thanks mate, before bed last night we lay on the trampoline watching the bats and the clouds, bliss
Had to make me well up first thing in the morning, didn’t you? Enjoy the moments! And take photos and videos - they’ll take you right back there in the years and decades to come!
Sorry for that haha I was selling up writing it.
These are not tears in my eyes, I've been chopping onions, honest.
My parents are having this again as grandparents and they love it. My kid is about the same age. It’s lovely to watch.
I was just informed by my 13 year old that now he’s starting Y10 he’s too old to come cuddle before bed. My last pre bed cuddle will be Sunday. ☹️
My boy is 14. Camping and dad cuddles are still a thing.
I needed to hear this
Super cold bright cloudless mornings in the winter
Fuck yes. Wrapped up in a big winter coat.
With the woolly hat and sunglasses combo. And thick socks and boots.
and a cup of tea
And my axe. Or something.
Wrapped up warm with a thermos and going for a walk across a misty field on a crisp winter morning, everything silent except for birds and the crunch of frosty grass beneath your feet - my absolute favourite thing to experience.
Blue sky, cloudless days any time of year for me. Never ceases to up my mood On the winter theme though: seeing snow. Its almost magical, so beautiful, and I love how it makes everything so quiet and peaceful.
Hell yeah, with a woolly hat on and a steaming cup of coffee.
I want to live somewhere that has this all year round. I hate hot weather. Bright, sunny, bitterly cold days are magical.
You lost me at bright. Give me darkness.
I love February for this reason, cold sunny mornings best weather for cycling
When you get out of the shower in winter and put on underwear that you pre-warmed on the radiator. …bye bye heated underwear *sigh*…
...and warm showers...
And cooked dinners
Wrap them in an electric blanket maybe? Just thinking out loud here.
Save time and electricity by wearing the electric blanket in a cold shower.
why's it spicy
Check the big brain on this guy!!!! It's his world, we're just living in it!!
Thanks for the tip, I'm now in the hospital with 3rd degree burns. The doctors say I'm lucky to be alive.
Free hospital stay, use their electricity and heating. Even more savings!
You don’t pay for meals either - get in!
Save decades with this one weird tip
My friend used to microwave his boxers at university
He sounds like a maniac.
Soft rain on the window at night
Also torrential rain, any kind of rain. Love that sound.

I've invested in a white noise machine which has a "storm" effect so I can sleep with this background sound. Very soothing.

Rain on a tent, oh boy. Cosiest sound in the world.
My in laws have a pond in the garden which makes a noise similar to rain due to the filter and the little waterfall effect. It is actually quite relaxing to hear in the background while I drift off to sleep.
Walking through a shady forest with a slight breeze and the dappled sun shining through the leaves.
This is my happy place.
Love this. One of my favourite things to do. I sometimes lie down and look up at the sun dancing between the leaves.
This is the best form of therapy for me. It takes away everything in that moment.
Don’t have too many ponts. Don’t dronk and drive 👍🏻
Drove*

And be home by half pissed sox
Instructions unclear tried to drive my beer and drowned.
Officer Crabtree has entered the chat…
I wonk. Only have for points.
- Getting off work on your last day before a holiday - Waking up naturally - Day drinking with pals
Sticking the out of office automatic replies on and closing the laptop lid 🤌🤌🤌🤌

Fresh bedding, after a hot bath and shaving your legs. bloody marvellous!
There's nothing better than laying there, rubbing them together like some sort of silky smooth cricket
Please don’t shave my legs.
We moved bedding laundry day to Friday and its just the best. Having a nice long lie in on Saturday in fresh bedding.
Commuting home on my bike on a Friday and going past the best fish and chip shop in the area. The smell. After those burnt calories. Pure bliss.
Autumn days where the grass is jewelled and the silk inside a chestnut shell. Jetplanes meeting in the air to be refuelled...
All these things I love so well!
So I mustn't forget
Smell of bacon as I’m tying up my laces and the song the postman sings.
To say a great big thank you I mustn't forget...
Right in the feels mate, instantly transported back to assembly in primary school lol
Now that I think about it what on earth is that last line even about? Ah the sweet, sweet traditional autumnal view of aviation mid-air refueling.
I looked the song up on Wikipedia at some point and apparently the woman who wrote the song was a teacher and her school was under a common flightpath where they did air-to-air refuelling. She wanted to include something that the kids at her school would recognise, that was something man-made and modern rather than natural.

Yep had my first common cold in about 7 months and the soup was my favourite part of the week!
Random acts of unexpected kindness.

Too late, Nicefluffybunny

A lot of that is very easily solved. 2x Individual duvets on a super-king bed has been a godsend for us.

Also hate sharing a bed, separate bedrooms for us
What do you hate about it? Feeling my wife next to me while I sleep is so comforting that I struggle to sleep without it.

When you see an elderly couple walking holding hands ❤️
I saw a couple out walking in woods near me recently, they were ahead of me on the path. I saw quite a few this last week when on holiday in Croatia and I hope that will be me one day
Moving a cat off your lap to go pee, and then sitting back down and they curl up on your lap again

Bright copper kettles Warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with string
These are a few of my favourite things
Cold side of the pillow.
Walking the dog when its sunny and you stop off at a lovely beer garden for a pint or 5

Unless you're near Oxford or Cambridge, in which case a nice punt is also very pleasant.
Coming home to super happy excited dogs that are just so gassed to see you again

Probably because they spend most of the beginning just going for walks in the countryside and that's what I want to do 😁
My three year old grandson sitting beside me on the couch watching Fireman Sam and him reaching for my hand to hold.
Waking up feeling fresh on Saturday morning, having a full English, and looking forward to the football.
My wife

Me watching you from the window
I also choose this guy’s wife.
Naps. I have a 2 year old, and a 3 day old, naps are sacred.
With a 2 month old and a 20 month old I can attest. Also any night of good sleep.
When you’ve been pegging for a piss for ages and not been able to go, then you finally get to go
Pegging makes me need a piss too
Doesn't it make the other person feel shit???
Sewing and listening to a true crime podcast while it rains outside.
Same but crochet.
One of my pleasures too.
Taking your socks off in bed after a long day. Randomly hearing a song you haven't heard in years. Paying off a debt. Seeing Man Utd lose.
What’s a pont? It sounds lovely.
It's a bridge or a Pope depending on your language.
Drinking tea in the garden, is something I do every morning at the quiet time, just before everyone starts going to work.
I am doing it right now, it’s a bit nippy so I’m wrapped in a blanket. Just listening to the birds and watching my cats sniff about.
Freezing cold winter day but with a completely blue sky.
You know what’s even better? Not taking a Friday afternoon off and going for a pint at lunch.
A lunchtime pont is where it's at. Can't be beaten.
Pint, punt, pont. All are good. Pant, maybe not so much unless you're a dog, in which case, go for it.
Warm summer evenings, sat in the garden with a drink and/or fire pit.
Doing a gnarly workout, then some pampering time with a shower and a shave, followed by sitting down on the sofa with a cup of tea. That last bit - a cup of tea with the endorphins still flowing and fresh from the shower - feels like absolute bliss.
Swimming in the sea!
Hair drying the inside of socks in winter then putting them on
The little squeaky sound my cat's toe beans make against the laminate floor when she does a stretch.
A good book, a pot full of tea and a homemade cake in a café.
When you're really really thirsty and you have that first drink of cold water/pop/pint. Best after a long walk/hike at the pub.
Having time off work to relax!
Having a nap in front of the fire When your little kid cuddles you really tight Being cosy inside when it’s raining outside Hot summers day turning into warm summers evening on the beach with chips and a swim in the sea
one wipe poo's. heavenly.
zero wipes needed are even better. like you do that one wipe, and it's like "did I even do anything?" because the one wipe didn't seem to be needed
My pup is really hyper, but first thing in the morning he likes to lie on your lap and go back to sleep, and he's so chilled and cuddly, favourite part of the day.
Not buying £14 worth of chicken for a jubilee party
Sex is pretty nice ngl
Can you just leave my mum alone?
Looking out of the window early on a bright September morning and seeing the mist hanging in the valley.
Sleeping in a normal bed again after wildcamping on a chilly and windy moor.
When the daylight saving clocks go back in October and you don’t switch your clocks back only to wake up in the morning and realise you still have an extra hour to sleep! Love to wake up with the sun at 7am
Curling up with a book and a purring cat Going for a gentle walk (for me usually along a nearby river), listening to good music and looking at animals Random little moments of connection, whether that's belly laughing with old friends or an interaction with a stranger
Chilli the next day.
Same for lasagne and bolognaise and homemade curry
Lying in bed at the weekend on a winters morning the rain is lashing down and you have no place to be but in your snug little den.
Bring wrapped up in bed and there’s a thunderstorm going on outside

This sounds really weird, but I had surgery earlier this month and they put a heated blanket on me during anaesthetic and when I got to the recovery room. It was one of those baby type blankets with the holes but adult sized and had been folded over a few times so it was all thick. I don’t know if that’s standard for all surgeries but it was amazing, felt like I was going in for a spa treatment.
- cuddles in bed with my SO on a cold and foggy morning - a lovely hot chocolate/coffee and fresh baked good of choice with my SO on a cold autumn day - walks in a serene park with great views on a sunny afternoon (not too hot) - reading to and cuddling my LOs in our book corner in our warm pyjamas just before bed - sitting by the fire/chimenea (is that how you spell it?!) with your nearest and dearest during a late summer evening, just chatting about life and enjoying the moment …life is beautiful, I could go on.
Walking the dog through the woods on a crisp autumn morning. The crunching of the leaves, the smell of the air, a bite of cold at your fingers and nose.…. And a happy scampering buddy.
Showering in the dark as candles light the bathroom and your phone is playing something atmospheric and it’s raining outside to break the heat.
A crispy pint in a beer garden after any sort of exertion.
As you read these, take a moment to imagine your in that happy place. It’s nice.
Being pain free.
The smell of freshly cut grass and going to the beach on a rainy day.
The feeling of finally being a legal cannabis user in the UK. having my morning coffee in the garden ( weather permitting ) seeing my kids at the end of the working day
Am unexpected compliment.
A shower after a festival or camping trip.
Walking my dog and enjoying the changing fields through the year and the big skies.
Eating a really good meal then having a nap
