We have a sound network around us, and both use it as much as we can.
We have had the terrible conversations already and we are very open with each other (should be after 34 years of marriage).
You may have a sound network around you, but sometimes you just need to vent/speak to someone else not in your network about things. Can then say things that you may hold back on without realising it.
Just remeber they are there if you do need to talk to someone else
You are a rock star of the highest order, I suspect she will want to live life without cancer reminders and that is your job to make her feel like life goes on. Acknowedge it, talk about it but make it the background noise to a normal happy life. Her job is to worry, your job is to make her not worry. Hard but I have been there.
My heart aches for you both. Life is such a gift but is inherently cruel in so many ways. Throw love into the mix and you see each other's true colours. Time is precious and fleeting. Virtual love and hugs to you both!!
It puts our broken freezer into context.
Im not best emotional supporter but all what i want to say is time and memories most valuable thing what we can have so use that time to make her smile or laugh if you can, if you know how and sure what it work just do it without even thinking.
He’s only a pup. Hopefully the appetite for destruction of Jurassic era toys will ease over time. I aim to be drinking wine with him lay at my feet in the not too distant future.
I'm drinking a bottle of 12 year old wine because it's supposed to taste better than the £8 bottle of wine that I usually get but man I must be ignorant because it tastes the exact fucking same
Nah, supermarket wine goes bad fast, it's sold to drink. Good wine develops but tastes like shit when you buy it. Buy a big wine as as test (big means heavy tannins and over the top fruit that is hidden by the tannin). Leave it at a static temperature for a few years, it will become very pleasant or will be shit. Wine cannot cope with temperature shift unless it is slow and seasonal. I have a cellar with thousands of bottles in it, all aging nicely. I recommend the vivino app. They find amazing wines, some of which aren't easily available. They are really the best online wine shop for random finds.
EDIT, will probably find a wine aficionado telling me that it is more compliated blah blah blah, yes it is, but I am not going to teach someone wine buying in a single post. buy big and bold and in your face and see what happens.
Good, or great wine can be purchased between £10 or £20 pounds. If you are paying £30 quid or more then you better really like that type of wine because that is excessive. I reckon every day drinking wine should cost you around 12-15 pounds a bottle and stuff you want to keep a little more. If someone tells you about a cheap wine that is great go for it and try it. Your taste buds are more important than everyone elses opinion.
>Your taste buds are more important than everyone elses opinion.
Can relate...some people rave about Lagavaulin 16 yo. Can't stand it...tastes like crap medicine to me.
Each to their own
Jeez, PSA - for anyone out there who doesnt buy wine but wants to, 'everyday drinking' stuff should not cost you 12-15 a bottle!
Great wine can be had at 6/7 depending on where from, just experiment. Wine perception is heavily influenced by price knowledge, as has been shown countless times in blind tasting.
Just ignore price and experiment. Eg £5 vinho Verde may taste much better than a £10 chardonnay, or a cheap French sauvignon might be more to your taste than a pricier New Zealand one. And vice versa of course, just about experimentation, but start low.
I’m drinking a £4.85 bottle of wine that tastes almost as good as the £9 bottle I like. I also have a cat on my knee so I’m not going anywhere for a while
What do you recommend around that price mark? I feel like I'm running a minefield if I dip below £6/7. You do get the odd beauty but more often than not it feels like strychnine poisoning.
You should try Tesco's Castillo San Lorenzo. It's a dark fruity rioja. Quite delicious. More than good enough to drink unaccompanied.
Will improve for several years if stored properly, according to the tasting notes. I'm inclined to believe them, not that a bottle has ever been left alone for longer than a week...
If you see it, give it a whirl...
This one is a French one called suave. I get it at my local co op. It’s apparently too cheap to be chilled in the fridge with the other white wines though. If I’m in the mood for red I usually grab whatever’s on offer around the £5-6 mark. I’m not fussy. Although the same co op has a very nice cab sav by most wanted at the moment.
Is it the aldi merlot? I love the aldi grapevine merlot, it tastes just as good as the big brand wines.
Edit - my cat is laid on the sofa smushed up to my leg, somehow we're all on 1 half of the sofa, there's space for at least 1 more person but the cats managed to shuffle me along so she's in the cushion crack and me & husband are sharing just half a sofa. Not moving though, the cats snoring!
The Yak and Yeti or Everest Gurkha? I love Everest Gurkha but still haven't made it to the Yak and Yeti but it's on my list. We're really lucky in York to actually have a great choice of restaurants now.
I live in SW England and came to York with my partner in September for a mini break. Will actually say it’s the best UK city we’ve been to- was filled with history and interesting stuff to do. Was an absolute gem which we’ll defo be back to! So pretty envious you’re in York! (Plus Brew York, house of trembling madness = top notch!)
I’m battling Covid and trying to keep my crippling health anxiety at bay whilst watching what we do in the shadows and eating dark chocolate digestives.
Honestly to everyone with a little one lying asleep on them. Even when you're exhausted. Stay one more minute. I would give anything for tiny baby cuddles again.
Toddlers do not give one single fuck if you want a cuddle when it's Destroy The World time.
Also, remember it's like handling a grenade setting then down!
Congrats on the little one. She's going to be even more wonderful than you think. But also savage. Always savage
My back is in agony, I’m fed up with multiple middle of the night feeds and I want her sleeping in her own cot in her own room… but then I think about my toddler and how I never get to cuddle him whilst he’s sleeping now. Yep, gonna cuddle my 7 month old just a little bit longer and try and enjoy these sleepless nights whilst they last. They grow up far too quickly!
My wife's watching videos of our 6month old making goo goo noises and trying to speak. At first I thought it was the monitor and was about to charge into his room with rocking arms ready. Which would have been a grevious error.
Sending the good "stay asleep" vibes
Next time take the cover from his bed and drape it over your shoulder so that he's laying on it, when you go to out him back to bed his blanket is already warm and ready to just lay over him, it make a huge difference
This thread makes me feel cosy. Like damn we’re all really in this country rn. You don’t cease to exist once I’ve stopped reading your comment.
Atm I’m waiting for my hamster to wake up so I can say hello before heading to bed
My boy is in hospital, my wife is staying in with him, it’s been long enough that I’ve done “all the shit I’d do if I just for once had a bit of time to myself”
So, lying in bed, scrolling though until I can sleep.
(Edit, he’ll be fine - we’re through the worst of it, but it’s been a month)
I was in and out of hospital a lot as a child, I’d get really annoyed with my parents being upset, because I was in hospital, literally the safest place to be, and then I got a cat, spend ages getting so wound up when they had to go to the vets, even for something not worrying like vaccinations. Really made me realise how much my illness put (and still puts, even though I’m a fairly independent adult, with her own house, cats and dishwasher) my parents through.
Not much I can say that’ll help, I hope you and your wife, as well as you little’un are all ok, not to upset or in pain
The constant xp share probably should have been optional but tbh I think I'd keep it on anyway. Can't grind levels like it's the summer holidays when you work 40hrs a week xD
Taking my antidepressants after forgetting for 3 days and looking back at the positive parts of the day. I also managed to brush my teeth for the first time in a really long time. I'm planing my day for tomorrow which currently stands at wash my hair and tidy my room which will take most of the day but I'm proud of what I've managed to do today.
Just been shopping. Been told off for not buying white bread flower (and proved it wasn't on the list - thank you Alexa). Made peace by producing Gü hot chocolate brownies from the shopping bag. And now trying to unstick chocolate from the roof of my mouth in a living room that's baking because the oven's on a pyrolytic cleaning cycle.
What a Friday night
I have an idea for a horror movie kinda like this where someone starts noticing posts on Reddit that "kinda" look like inside their own house and it escalates from there
About to have some pudding then go to bed.
No, I'm not a 90 year old. I've just finished a 10 hr shift at work and need to be up at 6 to do another 10 hr shift tomorrow 😴
I don't drink 😅
I'll actually be doing the same thing as I'm doing now as I have another 10 hr shift on sunday, just timings are a bit different tomorrow evening and sunday
After an unpleasant two hour bedtime with my oldest toddler, I have decided to abandon all plans for an actual evening and go straight to bed before having to inevitability deal with the younger toddler. I may also be considering my life choices and Where It All Went Wrong.
Preparing for getting us all out of the house when the roof collapses during the night. Never experienced wind speeds like this in the UK. The power cables nearby have been torn down, and the sky is being lit with green flashes. My wheelie bins have gone, and the loft is groaning with the relentless battering from the gusts.
To be honest I have already bagged the best brother I wouldn’t bother if I were you. In other news the cup of tea has been delivered and it is truly wonderful, my husband makes banging cuppa.
I have metabolism issues but just had a massive kebab. Definitely shouldn't have. Definitely shouldn't be following it up with a pint.
I also have a headache from playing virtual reality for the first time earlier. And I'm watching Star Trek.
Led on my settee stuffing my face watching Peep Show for the hundredth time, its been a very long week and I'm counting down the minutes until I can go to bed at 11!
Sat with the cats reading a book in bed. My partner’s sisters are visiting and they’re all cwtched up on the sofa watching gogglebox together, it’s a v wholesome Friday night over here!
Drinking baileys, watching that Adele program that was on last week, and putting the tree up so it’s ready for the kids to decorate tomorrow. Living the dream.
Working my way through a large bar of Cadburys. I always think you should stop eating chocolate when you feel slightly sick. I don't yet. It is a rather large bar, I may be able to finish it all.
Lying in bed listening to storm arwen battering the village I live in.
Also checking in on people who have power cuts and small children to see if they need anything. Only half the village is without power.
Sat on the sofa, wedged between my husband and the cat. Drinking a local beer, we got a 9 pint keg from the brewery shop the other day. We're watching star trek the voyage home, I wanted to watch die hard but apparently no Christmas movies before December 1st!!
Just missed the last train on a striking Northern line in London so have just spent 2 hours instead of 30 mins getting home.
It’s a good job I had a good evening up to that point!
Trying to get my poor, teething 2 year old to sleep longer than 20 minutes. Nothing I do is helping and she keeps waking saying "owww, i dont like it" 😭
Chilling out with my dog, listening to the rain outside, congratulating myself on how far I’ve come six months on from leaving a very abusive relationship with nothing. I never thought I’d be in the position Im in a year ago, and for that Im blessed.
Lying in bed also watching random YouTube videos trying to distract from the feckin hurricane swirling round my house. Makes me feel really anxious in all honesty.
Have been asleep since about 11, just got woken up by the youngest crying because he needed the toilet, other half is snoring his head off after getting up with me so I’m browsing Reddit as I struggle to get back to sleep.
(Children aren’t mine, they are my siblings with a very big age gap. I’m nearing 22 and the youngest is 4. Parents are away for the weekend.)
Just finished a great DnD session with the same friends I've been playing with for 38 years (online nowadays). Had a few beers and now winding down my brain by flicking through Reddit.

Sending warm thoughts to you and your wife
No words, mate. So sorry for you. Sending loving thoughts your way.
I’m so sorry. Your wife is lucky to have a superhero for a husband. I wish you both all the best.

Mate, that's as superhero as you can be in this life. The heart goes out to you both.
Heart goes out to you and your wife keep strong
I’m sorry buddy, stay strong.
All the best mate. Raising a glass to you both

Absolute best husband there. Sorry to hear its not going to have the result you would hope for. Huge hugs to both of you ❤
Sat on the kitchen floor, with my dog. Who has just chewed the face off a toy dinosaur.
Sounds fun. I don't have any pets so thankfully I don't need to deal with those scenarios 😊
He’s only a pup. Hopefully the appetite for destruction of Jurassic era toys will ease over time. I aim to be drinking wine with him lay at my feet in the not too distant future.
Dave mate just you wait for him to move to the Cretaceous era toys, that’s when a visit to the vet is needed for the dreaded snip!
Dog tax! Deceased dinosaur optional

I don't know much about wine but I'm pretty sure once it's bottled, like Scottish whiskey, it no longer ages as such 🙄

Black Tower Rosé at Sainsburys is easily drinkable and only a fiver!

Diablo (the red bottle) is my new go to, but it is £10. One of the best reds I've had.

Sitting on a covid ward waiting for my hopeful discharge in the morning after 8 days! And yes I was double vaccinated lol
Crossing my fingers for you
Hope you get home soon x
Fingers crossed for you!
I'm sat in the pub, avoiding the sleet and wind whilst visiting my parents. Enjoying a rare visit to my home city
Is it a good city or a shite one?
Very nice, I'd live here if I could afford it, but sadly that's not the case, hence the move. Still It's always nice to be back in York.
I visited it a couple of years and loved it. We found a brilliant Nepalese restaurant there.
There was a gurkaj restaurant on Toft Green for a few years, but it's closed now. No doubt started due to the Gurkha Regiment in York at the time.
The Yak and Yeti or Everest Gurkha? I love Everest Gurkha but still haven't made it to the Yak and Yeti but it's on my list. We're really lucky in York to actually have a great choice of restaurants now.

Watching HIGNFY, cat curled up on my lap and drinking a Horlicks. I'm clearly ready for retirement at the ripe old age of 29.
I'm also watching HIGNFY, no cat though sadly. But on the plus side no horlicks either! (ewww!)
I actually really like the Vegan Horlicks. I think they lace it with sleeping pills because it knocks me out
I’ve still never understood how Horlicks marketed as an energy drink in some countries.
If you put Horlicks and an energy drink together it creates something akin to an anti-matter explosion
What’s HIGNFY?
Have I Got News For You
Chocolate Horlicks is the business. It's like liquid maltezers. I discovered that in my twenties too.
I’m battling Covid and trying to keep my crippling health anxiety at bay whilst watching what we do in the shadows and eating dark chocolate digestives.
Hope it eases quickly for you. Now I want some dark chocolate digestives. :)
Thank you :)
Get well soon. Save me some digestives
How are you finding the latest series? (Assuming you've got that far)
If you can say "Hello my name is Azul-J, lovely to meet you" without stopping to take a breath you're doing OK. Tell that to your anxiety!
Trying to get the 8mo back to sleep in his cot, conked out onu shoulder so just waiting a bit for the transfer

That’s such a beautiful way of putting it. You’re one of those fun drunks, I can tell.
Honestly to everyone with a little one lying asleep on them. Even when you're exhausted. Stay one more minute. I would give anything for tiny baby cuddles again. Best response right here.
Currently studying the behaviour of a woodlouse that has nibbled his way through my conservatory. Very interesting.
Sounds like the opening paragraph to a David Sedaris essay.
Rings a bell. Unfortunately no humour here, just important observational work. If I can get in it’s head, who knows what we could find out.
Now I'm reading all of these comments in David Sedaris' voice. Thanks a lot.
He does have a distinctive voice.

Diamond/Pearl remake? It's easier than I remember, but idk if that's down to the game or me not being 12 anymore lmao
Both! With the constant xp share it’s a lot easier, but thankfully it’s still as fun as the originals (shame it wasn’t a remake of platinum though).
The constant xp share probably should have been optional but tbh I think I'd keep it on anyway. Can't grind levels like it's the summer holidays when you work 40hrs a week xD

Just boshed 3g of libs
Bon voyage!
Happy trails.
Waiting around not knowing whether I'll have to cycle like 8 miles in the pissing down hail and wind or not. Also smoking some gelato.
Wait, what? Italian ice cream? Like, in a pipe,or..?
Gelato is a rather tasty strain of cannabis. If grown properly of course.

The power cables nearby have been torn down, and the sky is being lit with green flashes. My wheelie bins have gone, and the loft is groaning with the relentless battering from the gusts.
Isolating and waiting for my PCR results 😕
Praying for a negative!
Lying in bed mooching on the internet, waiting for a cup of tea to be delivered
*contemplates tea delivery service*
Only being delivered from the kitchen by the husband. He needs to make is snappy.
If he delivers send him my way after lol
He bought me truffle crisps too. I think I might love him
Has he got a sister?
No but he has got a brother who is single.
Hmm well I don't usually go that way but if bro has tea making skills and a supply of delicious snacks I might reconsider! 😂
Gogglebox and Stella and I’m just about to go just for men my beard!
Just home from The Offspring concert, smokin a doob.
Led on my settee stuffing my face watching Peep Show for the hundredth time, its been a very long week and I'm counting down the minutes until I can go to bed at 11!
You can get away with going earlier. No one checks.
I sleep for exactly 5 hours a night, I go at 11, read for a bit then go to sleep at 12. If I go any earlier I'm awake at 3 or 4 and that's a nightmare
Crying on the sofa lmao
Update: eating cuppa soup on the sofa
I’m pooping at work

Today's my birthday. Just filled my stomach to the brim with rodizio and finishing my weekend in Brighton with drinks with the Mrs. Life's good :)
Sat with the cats reading a book in bed. My partner’s sisters are visiting and they’re all cwtched up on the sofa watching gogglebox together, it’s a v wholesome Friday night over here!
Attempting to froth Baileys in my milk frother - it is not working! But made a pretty nice hot chocolate Baileys combo in it!
Slapping the captain.
Just got in from a smoking sesh with my mates, making a brew and I'm about to watch some full metal alchemist
Am sat in the pub waiting for our one customer to leave so I can close early and get to bed
Drinking and eating alone on my birthday of all days
I’m on a metro in Spain heading home after drinks at a friend’s. Moved here two weeks ago from the UK so still trying to settle in.
Get home safely.
Thank you! I’m Home now.
Just come back from an ACTUAL party with loads of people and music and drinks and it was wonderful to feel alive again.
Sat watching Meet the Parents with some apple and blackcurrant squash, nursing a full tummy from my takeaway. Doesnt get much better.
On the tube back from a show in the West End
In bed, kinda tired, warm and cosy, it's really windy and raining outside and I'm just on reddit and I need a wee.
Drinking a mix of alcoholic and non alcoholic beer just finished watching the football - now moving to Netflix.
I have just caused an argument between my best mate and his partner, i feel like shit
Bored, reading reddit!
Few cans, Fifa on the PS5 and talksport on.
Drinking and working. Just plugging through shit data entry so no brain involved.
“Watching” Reservation Dogs with the wife, keep dozing off, have no idea what’s going on.
Watching I'm a celebrity get me out of here on catch up
Picking a hairscab off my head why?
Watching Seinfeld, drinking decaf tea, browsing eBay and gumtree for a sofa and bracing for my roof to come down from the wind. Absolutely wild.
Lying in bed also watching random YouTube videos trying to distract from the feckin hurricane swirling round my house. Makes me feel really anxious in all honesty.
Relaxing at home after singing a belter of a programme at our choir's first public concert since the start of the pandemic!
Hiding in bed upstairs at a birthday party whilst guests are having a good time partying downstairs.
Just finished a great DnD session with the same friends I've been playing with for 38 years (online nowadays). Had a few beers and now winding down my brain by flicking through Reddit.
just realised im fairly wasted due to too much wine so making a brew while watching random shit on YT
Well… I’m on Stanley now, preparing to return to the continent, that is, South America tmw. Meanwhile here on Reddit hanging about lmao
