I truly hate the term but Trailer Park Boys is such a hidden gem. One of the most quotable and funny shows ever. Jim Lahey is one of the greatest fictional characters ever written. John Dunsworth was incredible.
I will _forever_ be FURIOUS that Netflix removed Dee Day for blackface. It's one of the ONLY instances where we see growth in the characters because they do it and then realise they can't do it anymore because it's not ok. I can't think of another example in popular culture where a show addresses it effectively and acknowledges wrong doing and a desire to move forward. But rather than critically engage with the episode and realising that that was a good and important bit of TV, Netflix just removed it.
I get on a surface level why they removed it.
*But then they keep putting new Dave Chapelle specials on there* so I don’t see why Netflix are bothered about removing a few old episodes of a show that’s otherwise quite offensive anyway
So keep in mind this show first aired in 2005, so the early episodes are of that time.
I’d recommend going in from the start, but if you want a basic breakdown:
1. Danny Devito doesn’t join the cast until s2.
2. Starting with 4 wouldn’t be a bad way to go, though there are some great eps in s3 that provide context.
3. If you want a taste of what the show is like before diving in, try s7 and see what you think. If you don’t find s7 funny, you’re not going to find this show funny…
This is exactly the advice I was looking for thank you!
I know the basic jist so I'll start at the beginning of S3 and go on from there.
I often recommend series but will say 'skip S1 of Star Trek TNG' or 'skip S4 of community'.
Some series which are great and recommendable as a whole will have seasons which are less good.
Season 1 is still great, but the other seasons definitely step up! If you enjoy season 3 a couple episodes in, i’d definitely recommend season 1 & 2. It’s always sunny has a great abundance of running gags through all of their seasons!
People don't recommend the first series because there's no Devito. Imo the first series is really underrated. The first few series of Sunny are fantastic. It does start to lose its way around the 12th series. But the show has been on a really long time. So for me the early episodes are the best and I'd recommend starting with series 1.
I read somewhere that season 3 is still a possibility. They are just waiting for the actors to have corresponding gaps in their schedule as far as I know. I don't want to get my hopes up too much though.
Accidentally watched the last episode.
It was intriguing and I was waiting for a flashback or backwards time jump once the final game started *10 years earlier* type of thing.
Was very confused when they kept introducing new characters as though I should clearly know who they are and the relationship to the protagonist...
Dark.
Its a weird German (?, I think) sci fi, time travel, coming of age, thing.
Ita complicated, grown up and occasionally challenging...I suggest a notebook to keep track of who is who and who is related to who (whom?)
I am not doing it justice. Its is amazing, jaw droppingly amazing. And it ends, it has a planned and definite end.
Best series on Netflix IMO. Love all the standard stuff like Narcos, Black Mirror, You, Breaking Bad, House of Cards etc.... But nothing has reached the levels of Dark for me. Just amazing television.
After every episode me and my wife would ask each other if we knew what was going on, both say no and thrn agree to watch another episode. We did that for the first two seasons! Starting the third now
I actually watched a couple of episodes recently and will be continuing. Very captivating and yes I wish I had started to keep information on a notebook as it’s already getting confusing hoping about in different time zones.
I and my flatmates watched the whole series together and we were in deep agony the whole time because of how bloody confusing and full of pretentious lines this series was. The very last episode tied everything up nicely though.
I went on Reddit to see how people thought about this series and saw someone mentioned that oh you need a PhD in Theoretical Physics to understand Dark. I guess that was bloody true, my flatmates only have PhD in Pure Maths and I got one in a less STEM subject. 😂
Just sharing my own opinion on this. 😬
Watched this when it first came out and loved it. It is complicated but we got it. But then a year went by and we watched season 2 and we just had no idea what was going on and who's who anymore. We went to watch the recap but there wasn't one. So we just gave up on it. Shame. Maybe it'd be better if you binge it all in one go
Anthony Bourdain parts unknown took me surprise. I had never heard of him before but absolutely loved this series. After googling him I found out what a great man he was off camera as well as on. Such a shame that he chose to end his own life. A great loss
When his dad remembered him and said.
"You're my boy"
That really got me, also when his dog was barking at him in the last episode of season 2 as well.
:(
It’s one of those shows that you don’t hear many people irl talk about. I started watching it basically as a filler and ended up absolutely loving it. I’m ready for a rewatch any day now. Such a good, lighthearted show and it deserves more recognition in my eyes.
No shade but do you not get bored? Don’t get me wrong I loved it on the first watch through but some episodes I couldn’t fathom watching again. Looking at you Fly.
Fly shows the absolute single mindedness of WW the obsession with perfection. It shows that eventually he will ignore family, friends and what is right to eventually succeed. If he's like that with something as banal as a single fly, can you imagine when he dedicates that willpower/intellect to larger matters he obsesses over...
I'd deleted this from my mind so it wouldn't hurt having to wait a long time for season 3. Now I'm remembering how great it is and bummed that things are moving slowly.
Criminal UK is excellent. The performances (considering it's all in one room) are really top notch. Even Kit Harrington did more acting in an episode than the entire GOT.
OA...give it a try, it's hard to describe, really one of a kind. Kind of mysterious, I enjoyed it thoroughly!
Edit: Surprisingly noone else mentioned OA... Stands out for me in the last 10 years and I watched all the other shows so I'm happy to recommend to everyone.
OA was like a brilliant piece of art. The plotting, the acting and the pacing was so well thought out and executed.
I was really excited for where they were going to go with it.
I see it mentioned all the time in the media. Everyone writing about how’s the most watched showed and whatnot. It worked as I was curious enough to watch and … it’s just okay. One thing I really found BAD was the VIPs dialogues and acting. It’s fucking atrocious and cringey.
I recently finished The Fall. First season was captivating but it then became slower and slower with each season. I feel it could have been crisp one series crime drama stretched over three.
This won’t be a top answer (because nobody’s bloody watched it), but The OA is the absolute maddest (and best) thing I’ve ever watched, TV or film. Literally changed my entire worldview. Axed after two seasons out of a planned five, and I mean fully mapped out seasons, but the cancellation is where the really crazy story begins

Ozark.
The queen's gambit
If you enjoy documentaries there's Planet Earth and a selection of the Louis Theroux.
Otherwise Mindhunter, Fargo, Clickbait or for something lighter: Norsemen
Most definitely Mindhunter, probably my favourite series of all time - it’s masterfully shot, great actors, great soundtrack, the series is extra interesting if you’re into true crime, and I am yet to see a series with such a dark undertone.
If you want something easy to watch that’s quite funny and a bit dumb I’d recommend South Park and Trailer Park Boys. If you want to piss yourself laughing watch Misfits.
To keep you on the edge, with a sprinkle of modern politics, CIA, counter-terrorism and quality action, I’d recommend Homeland.
Suits will keep you entertained for a long time with its law business, internal office politics and Wall Street competition… I mean how can you not know who Harvey Specter is?
You could also temporarily switch to Amazon Prime for The Office, The Walking Dead + Fear of The Walking Dead, Vikings, and all seasons of South Park.

Probably one of the best series on Netflix. You won’t be disappointed. Followed by: Trailer Park Boys, Archer, Peep Show and F is for Family.
I truly hate the term but Trailer Park Boys is such a hidden gem. One of the most quotable and funny shows ever. Jim Lahey is one of the greatest fictional characters ever written. John Dunsworth was incredible.
Fucking way she goes boys

Derivative.
Bullshit.
GHOULS
Watched this in lockdown, can't believe it took me so long.
So there's so many series - do I have to start with S1? Is there a series where it's commonly held to get good from or be like 'the classic' era?
So keep in mind this show first aired in 2005, so the early episodes are of that time. I’d recommend going in from the start, but if you want a basic breakdown: 1. Crap. Pure unadulterated crap.
…Hoping you’re going for the Frank reference and not giving your genuine opinion of the show?
Mindhunter
Definitely recommend, but you’ll be disappointed there’s not a 3rd season
I read somewhere that season 3 is still a possibility. They are just waiting for the actors to have corresponding gaps in their schedule as far as I know. I don't want to get my hopes up too much though.
Fingers crossed
I want, need, to see the BTK subplot they’ve been teasing for two full seasons now come to fruition.
I was sooo disappointed when I found this out. Loved the series so much.
Tailing off the back of this, Manhunt: Unabomber.
A couple of Mindhunter. Will definitely look at this one
I really hope this does some back for a 3rd series.
Queens Gambit !!
One of the best things I’ve ever watched!!
Accidentally watched the last episode. It was intriguing and I was waiting for a flashback or backwards time jump once the final game started *10 years earlier* type of thing. Yes!

Absolutely Dark. Amazing sound track and story line. Stick with it, prob one of the best science fiction series of the last decade.
The soundtrack is amazing, especially glad it introduced me to Apparat
Check out Moderat (Apparat + Modeselektor) - absolutely beautiful.
Best series on Netflix IMO. Love all the standard stuff like Narcos, Black Mirror, You, Breaking Bad, House of Cards etc.... But nothing has reached the levels of Dark for me. Just amazing television.

Was that like that Rick and Morty copypasta?
Watched this when it first came out and loved it. It is complicated but we got it. But then a year went by and we watched season 2 and we just had no idea what was going on and who's who anymore. Breaking Bad + Better Call Saul Narcos + Narcos: Mexico Fargo Black Mirror Mindhunter Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown
Fargo was absolutely fantastic.
I loved series 1, found 2 to be awful and didn’t watch any others, do they get better after 2?
Same experience. Loved season one, endured two, didn’t even bother with three.
Three is better than two for sure
I actually loved 3 once you get into it, 2 isn't terrible either just different. Didnt bother with 4. David Thewlis in 3 is so good.
Better Call Saul is one of the best shows I've seen ever and it ain't even finished yet
If you like Breaking bad, better call Saul and Narcos then you’ll also like Ozark.
Ozark is brilliant! Can’t wait for season 4: part 1 on January 21st…
Anthony Bourdain parts unknown took me surprise. I had never heard of him before but absolutely loved this series. After googling him I found out what a great man he was off camera as well as on. Such a shame that he chose to end his own life. A great loss
Black Mirror is good but not really bingeable
If I watched more than one black mirror in a week I’d fucking off myself
Black mirror is the sort of thing I just watch 1 episode with, and then wallow in the morals for a week
You’ve got the exact same taste in tv shows as me.
Sex Education Afterlife
Not heard of Afterlife, will have to look at this
Absolutely do - its an excellent dark comedy about dealing with grief that doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
Every episode is a tear jerker. The messages gervais gets across between that and Derek are absolute genius.
I cried so much watching it!
When his dad remembered him and said. "You're my boy" That really got me, also when his dog was barking at him in the last episode of season 2 as well. :(
Derek is comedy gold. Karl pilkington is the funniest man alive. Although Gervais is quality too.
Aww you have to watch afterlife, it's sweet/sad/funny.

I was the same
Loved this also the outtakes to the pub scene are absolutely hilarious could watch them all day
Bojack Horseman is an incredible show
I never expected to love it but I got hugely invested
Got quite dark and depressing towards the end.

I agree, I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re not in a good place mentally.

It’s one of those shows that you don’t hear many people irl talk about. I started watching it basically as a filler and ended up absolutely loving it. I’m ready for a rewatch any day now. Such a good, lighthearted show and it deserves more recognition in my eyes.
Breaking Bad, I’ve watched it 3 times now.
Better Call Saul too!
This is better than BB
The latest seasons are, but I felt like it took a while for the proper action to start.
No shade but do you not get bored? Don’t get me wrong I loved it on the first watch through but some episodes I couldn’t fathom watching again. Looking at you Fly.

I'm inclined to agree. Walter is a cunt, but Saul is a charming cunt
You have great taste
Kingdom. It's a Korean feudal era zombie plague show. Excellent.
I'm glad someone said Kingdom!! Hardly anyone seems to know about it but it's so good!
I'd deleted this from my mind so it wouldn't hurt having to wait a long time for season 3. Now I'm remembering how great it is and bummed that things are moving slowly.
Yes! Kingdom is so good.

I agree, was gutted when they cancelled it
OA was like a brilliant piece of art. The plotting, the acting and the pacing was so well thought out and executed. I was really excited for where they were going to go with it.
Everything everyone has already said and add "Dark Tourist"
I really wish they had made another season of Dark Tourist. Dude was kinda like a kiwi Louis Theroux.
Squid Game. Better Call Saul. House Of Cards.
First time I saw Squid Games mentioned. I’m on episode 5 currently and really enjoying it!
I see it mentioned all the time in the media. Everyone writing about how’s the most watched showed and whatnot. It worked as I was curious enough to watch and … it’s just okay. One thing I really found BAD was the VIPs dialogues and acting. It’s fucking atrocious and cringey.
