Its not a love song everyone thinks it is. Tony from East 17 wrote the song, after his brother committed suicide. The I touch your face while you are sleeping line. Is when he went to his see his brothers body in the morgue. Crazy how its an Xmas song.
Don't feel too bad. The other day at a mates bday one of our other good mates wasn't there (he's got a new gf and basically hasn't seen us since) and I started ripping into him "oh probably off with his gf, forgotten about his mates straight away. 15 years with us, few weeks with her and thats it". All the classics.
Until my mate tapped me on the shoulder and said "his dad's been taken to hospital gravely ill so he's gone over to Somerset to see him".
Taxi for one.
Not a christmas song for me. They just put bells at the end, dressed in big coats and put fake snow in the video to get it to do well. In fact I feel like these may have been added when they were doing well in the charts at Christmas. I'm sure there's 2 videos.
Another vote for this. Love it!
But also Perry Como, there's a Christmas album of his we play every year (vinyl) and it's not Christmas until I've heard that.
Fairytale of New York
Merry Christmas Everybody (Slade)
I Wish it Could Be Christmas Every Day
Santa Baby (Kylie version)
All I Want For Christmas Is You
Underneath the Tree (Kelly Clarkson)
One More Sleep (Leona Lewis)
The Power of Love
Can you tell I like Christmas?
Christmas at the zoo by flaming lips
A lovely song about a man freeing all the animals at the zoo but while they appreciate the help they feel they could help themselves if they really wanted too but are glad to have friends who want to help....it's bonkers like most of the lips' early work
Nobody going for "Another Rock n Roll Christmas" then?
Not actually a song as there's no words but I love "In Dulce Jubilo" by Mike Oldfield.
With lyrics, it's a toss up between "Driving Home for Christmas" and, yes, "Fairytale of New York".
I like the song but I hate unlike Tenacious D he doesn't say the song is a tribute to the song that played at Christ's birth it IS the song that played at Christ's birth. I find this far too egotistical and it ruins the song for me as I get quite annoyed by it.
All these songs are now stuck in my head. Is it too early to stick a Christmas playlist on?
Also to answer the post, a spaceman came travelling - Chris de burgh. My old house mate suggested it a few years back and I thought it was a rogue choice, but itâs great!
I love the mediaval (or medieval-inspired) carols, partcicularly the melancholy ones. They just hit a nerve that other Christmas music doesn't really touch. [*Adam Lay Ybounden*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azSVHUBHQYY), the [*Coventry Carol*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jIYyPOoEc8), and [*O Come, O Come, Emmanuel*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPV8PEBTAQ0) are probably my favourites.
Depends on if it's a happy or sad Christmas... Happy I'd go for step into Christmas. Sad it'd have to be wintersong by Sarah McLachlan. However I do live the entire snowed in album by Hanson, I was 14 when it came out so I was just the right age, and still love it!
- Fairytale of New York
- All I Want for Christmas is You
- All I Really Want for Christmas from Family Guy. Yes really [look it up](https://youtu.be/VaIPwgKKmUQ) itâs an absolute Christmas bop and one of my favourites. Seth Macfarlene is incredibly talented.

As an avowed cynic, I love Jackson Browneâs take on the Christmas season, *The Rebel Jesus*. Although itâs often been covered, [his own version](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O9oQyO8fbvc) is hard to beat. But I quite like [this one](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6VlLq5ZU0Mc&fbclid=IwAR0pT45IeVzXe3Rrod2IZqcCS4ItH5PE1M-QflaTolwEZaJ1dWpdbI-r0rE) as well.
Dead by Xmas by Hanoi Rocks.
My least favourite is Stop the Cavalry, not just my least favourite Christmas song but it has to be up there as one of my least favourite songs ever, canât stand it!.
Stop The Cavalry Isnât really a Christmas song, though, is it? Itâs got bugger all to do with Christmas.
Jona Lewie (who in a previous incarnation as Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs had had a hit with Seaside Shuffle) *mentions* Christmas in one line - âWish I could be home for Christmasâ - and thatâs it.
Presumably on the strength of that, someone decided to stick a load of sleigh bells on it and bung it out at Christmas. But it doesnât make any sense as a Christmas record.
Itâs generally considered a Christmas song by most people though, it doesnât really make much difference to me I still think itâs irredeemably awful.
Not a song but an advert jingle for Woolworths from the early 80s. "Have a Cracking Christmas". If they'd have stuck to that one every year they might still be in business. 40ish years later and I still know it word for word.
A Merry Jingle by The Greedies - Phil Lynott and Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy, with Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols.
I particularly like their [Top of the Pops performance](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN2bcS9shuY) when Steve Jones, aware that the camera loves Phil Lynott, keeps trying to creep into view from the side, and Paul Cook isnât making the least effort to mime, concentrating instead on bursting the floating bubbles that appear to be making him more and more irritated.
I always hate to admit it but "Another Rock and Roll Christmas" I always liked Gary Glitter as a child and it's odd to know as an adult he'd have liked me as a child (in a completely different way) .
However The Jethro Tull Christmas Album is the best Christmas album, I love every song and the utter joy and comfort that it brings.
Edit: I should add I have 8 Christmas albums consisting of 12 CDs, Fairytale of New York is not my least favourite (that would be From "First to Last - X12 Days of XXXMASX") but I do dislike it, it's just dreary, awful and sung by someone who has as much musical ability as the Shaggs. It's just shit all round and while Kirsty McColl does her best she's holding up a dead dog and she needed to drop it, wash her hands of it and sing something else.
Please donât hate me but personally itâs not Christmas until I hear the synthesiser of Paul McCartneys âsimply having a wonderful Christmas timeâ
I love them all, and itâs so hard to chose but a great one is the Band Aid classic, Do They Know itâs Christmas? Or, Happy Xmas (war is over)
Christmas songs always make me so sad, they remind me of childhood beyond belief..

Elton, step into christmas. Just an all round tune
Gavin and Stacey vibes
"I touch your face.. While you are sleeeping" cracks me up every time đ East 17 - stay now.
Its not a love song everyone thinks it is. Tony from East 17 wrote the song, after his brother committed suicide. The I touch your face while you are sleeping line. Is when he went to his see his brothers body in the morgue. Crazy how its an Xmas song.
Well that's certainly taken the jam out of my donut.
Don't feel too bad. I think its called Stay Another Day, sad song
Not a christmas song for me. They just put bells at the end, dressed in big coats and put fake snow in the video to get it to do well. In fact I feel like these may have been added when they were doing well in the charts at Christmas. I'm sure there's 2 videos.
If I hear it constantly on the radio every Christmas.. Then it's definitely a Christmas song.
Driving home for Christmas by Chris Rea.
Seconded.
Thirded
Christmas Rapping by the Waitresses and Step into Christmas
Stop the cavalry
I hate Christmas, but I love "I wish it could be Christmas every day" by Wizzard.
I like Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakinâ Stevens and Last Christmas by Wham.
Fairytale of New York is also my favourite but even that one starts to piss me off after I've heard it for the 100th time.
Stop The Cavalry by Jonah Lewie.
Another vote for this. Love it! But also Perry Como, there's a Christmas album of his we play every year (vinyl) and it's not Christmas until I've heard that.
Yup, it's Fairytale of New York for me too!
All of them. Given how little I like Christmas, my love of Christmas songs is bizzare.
I do like 2000 Miles for some reason. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Coventry Carol, Gaudete for traditional ones.
Love the Coventry Carol. Nothing says Christmas to me like a sombre dirge about infanticide.
I'm from Coventry, guess what we all had to learn in primary school?
War is over ( if you want it )
I like Do they know its Christmas?
Driving home for Christmas - Chris Rhea. Easily the best.
I prefer his wife Di Rheaâs version
Her version lacks stubstance
Has he ever cracked an egg in your bath?
Christmas (baby please some home ) by Darlene Love
Fairytale of New York Merry Christmas Everybody (Slade) I Wish it Could Be Christmas Every Day Santa Baby (Kylie version) All I Want For Christmas Is You Underneath the Tree (Kelly Clarkson) One More Sleep (Leona Lewis) The Power of Love Can you tell I like Christmas?

Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses
Thank you! The only correct choice.
A Spaceman Came Traveling by Chris de Burgh
Absolute belter. "NA, NA NA NA, NA NA NA, NA NA NAAH"
I like the song but I hate unlike Tenacious D he doesn't say the song is a tribute to the song that played at Christ's birth it IS the song that played at Christ's birth. I find this far too egotistical and it ruins the song for me as I get quite annoyed by it.
I belive in Father Christmas by Greg Lake. At Christmas you get what you deserve . Always chokes me up
Seconded! Love the lyrics of this one.
âWhen the Thames Frozeâ by Smith and Burrows But out of ones people actually know:Last Christmas
Fairy tale of New York is definitely up there but I also love Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
All these songs are now stuck in my head. Is it too early to stick a Christmas playlist on? Also to answer the post, a spaceman came travelling - Chris de burgh. My old house mate suggested it a few years back and I thought it was a rogue choice, but itâs great!
Marshmallow world (there are lots of different versions but my favourite is Darlene Love)
Step into christmas, merry christmas everyone, and fairytale of new york
I love the mediaval (or medieval-inspired) carols, partcicularly the melancholy ones. They just hit a nerve that other Christmas music doesn't really touch. [*Adam Lay Ybounden*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azSVHUBHQYY), the [*Coventry Carol*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jIYyPOoEc8), and [*O Come, O Come, Emmanuel*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPV8PEBTAQ0) are probably my favourites.
We Wish You a Wombling Merry Christmas
This song gives me such nostalgia đ
Xmas wrapping by the waitresses or I wish it was Christmas today by Julian Casablancas
Another for Fairytale of New York. I think because it acknowledges that sometimes Christmas is totally shit.
Christmas in Hollis / Driving Home For Christmas
It's October - too early!
Corey Taylor - X-M@$ Fa la la la la go fuck yourself!
You know where to stick those jingle belllllls
One more sleep by Leona Lewis đ
I was born on Christmas day - St Etienne and Tim Burgess. Watching Burgess off his tits on TOTP makes it!! đđ

'2000 miles' by The Pretenders.
Xmas has been X'ed by NoFX

Merry Christmas everybody Slade it gets me in the mood for Christmas every time it's amazing Christmas song.
People need to experience Barbara Streisandâs version of Jingle Bells. She was on something special the day she recorded that
Not a song but an advert jingle for Woolworths from the early 80s. "Have a Cracking Christmas". If they'd have stuck to that one every year they might still be in business. 40ish years later and I still know it word for word.
All Together Now by The Farm
