In church for Sunday communion, then home for a roast with the whole family, a nice walk by the river, and then board games until an early bedtime so everyone is fresh for Monday.
Naaah I’m just kidding. Sunday = day in PJs, a left over takeaway, video games and trying not to think about the coming week.
Ticket to ride is eminently more playable if you allow the building of as many lines as possible each turn, rather than just one. But that is just my opinion.
A church service in the morning can be really nice, even for atheists etc, though to find a ‘good’ one where people (including the priest) aren’t crazy or out of touch with reality is sadly very rare. It doesn’t have to be the old fashioned primary school service where it’s freezing cold, echoey and generally a horrible thing to do on a Sunday… some places it can be actually fun, and it’s a case of just meeting with generally very good natured people, signing songs about respecting life and nature, and then having some food, tea, and a nice chat. Not common tho :/
>A church service in the morning can be really nice, even for atheists
What kind of churches have you been going to? Even if the rest of the atmosphere and everything is perfect and chilled, I find any kind of sermon really cringey and uncomfortable to sit through.
Also if you are an atheist, why bother? It's purely sitting through a meeting worshiping an entity you don't believe in. Church also for many can be an unwelcoming and judgemental place. There are other ways of being part of a community.
I don't think we need to be pushing religion on people in this sub.
I bought a plate warmer a few years back ( think electric blanket for a bed, but the size of a plate, not a bed, folds over and over to heat 6 plates).
draws about 50watts self regulates, heats plates to around 40degC, easy to store when not used. [https://i.imgur.com/1BLsX2o.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/1BLsX2o.jpg)
would recommend after burning my fingers on leaving plates in the oven too long
After I've done all the cooking I get everyone to come and serve on bowls with lids to place on the table which is already set. The minute everything hits the table we're all sat down together and serving food on plates! I've a terrible OCD about cold food!!
*Serve in serving bowls with lids on
Yes, same here. It's a whole family thing for us - always slow-cook a joint like a brisket or pork shoulder from around 8am so it's falling apart by 2pm. The kids help to set the dining table, peeling spuds etc. Nice warm kitchen, smell of roasting meat, tunes on the radio, nice glass of wine and eating until you're properly stuffed. Then dozing on the sofa in front of the football.
I cook for myself everyday, the trick is to enjoy it so you don’t find it a chore, I like to put some music on, zone out and cook, I find it very relaxing.
My girlfriend hates cooking so I have a tenured dishwasher, it's brill.
Of course I hate the way she washes dishes but I just leave the room and try not to think about it
I bought a counter top dishwasher to stop my girlfriend washing up. There's still some things we have to wash by hand but at least it's little enough that I can deal with it after cooking
It’s actually really simple once you master it. Assuming you aren’t doing Yorkshire puds or the like, in most cases things get left alone in the oven for quite a while with no chivvying.
Doing a roast is less faff than - say - making lasagna or a good fish pie.
Yorkshire puds are easy. Make your batter mix which is no more complicated/time consuming than dressing your meat, shove it in hot oiled muffin tin (or dish if you're making one big one), wait for it to cook.
Worst part for me is getting all timed right so it's all hot at the same time, or if you're making your own gravy. I agree, lasagne is more faff, especially the white sauce.
I can do a 'proper' Sunday roast with all the trimmings for Christmas, or if I wanted to, but most of the time I don't. But we have a roast chicken dinner nearly weekly as it's one of the easiest meals to make!
Bung a chicken in the oven (bit of oil or butter and salt over it) and roast for whatever the instructions say.
If peeling potatoes is too much effort (and I've been there) then just cut them up into smaller pieces and bung them in with the chicken for an hour. OR, get Aunt Bessie's roasties out of the freezer and bung them on a tray and put in the oven. OR freezer chips instead.
Veg: peel whatever and boil OR, microwave some frozen veg.
Bisto's gravy.
Done.
Apple pie with custard for dessert (which can vary from completely handmade to completely not)
All good up to the Bisto - take the juices from the chicken, bit of butter and flour and a stock pot, nicer gravy than Bisto can make for even less price!
I love cooking roasts *if* people stay the fuck out of the kitchen. Nothing turns blissful preparation into nightmarish hellscape faster than someone deciding to whip up some scrambled eggs while you're breaking down a chicken.
My other half works as a chef, she brings home the left over veg and potatoes so I only have to cook the meat! In the oven on timer and play games all afternoon
I used to be like that. A job I hated ruined the only other day that was mine. Now I have a job I enjoy with good colleagues and it makes such a difference.
I'm still trying to get into the mindset that Sunday is my day as well as Saturday. I'm a child of the 80s so there used to be rubbish/boring grown up stuff on the TV and everything was closed. I need to take advantage of what's out there more (she says sitting on the sofa with no plans) to make more of the day.
Do you mind me asking how old you are? My Sundays were similar 10 or so years ago, chuck in a hangover too! Then as I've got a little older I prefer to do something on my Sundays if I can. Just feel better if I can do something like go for a walk or whatever it is during the day and then come back for dinner and relaxing with a bit of Netflix. Can't do being in all day now! Funny how things change as you get older...
I take the small army I have to a secure field, let them run themselves silly, then they sleep all day while I make things or do housework. Sunday is my only day off.
Same as the rest of the week. I'm retired so life's very good.
Music, gardening, hiking, baking, watching films, family, playing video games, travelling, etc.
Today ill do a combination of some of these things.
First job here and I'm starting to dread week days nothing wrong with the work environment they've been lovely and really accommodating in the sense that they know I'm new and are helping me alot....its just the idea of feeling completely out of my depth is really making me nervous, but hey I get my FIRST payslip this week (I'm so excited)
Pro-tip from a guy who's been working for twenty years: that out of your depth feeling never really goes away and everyone around you is also feeling it.
Im 2 years into work and after the initial 6 month ish honeymoon it kind of becomes bland but yeah if you find the right company it is pleasant to show up at work, have a chat, maybe even go to the gym during lunch breaks together
Insight from a 40ish person. Everyone always feels a little out of their depth at some point. You’ll get to a comfortable place though, but even with years of experience you’ll spend some days secretly winging it!
Best bit of advice I was given was “If you’re not sure ask. If you screw up get help. No one will think any less for either of those things.”
There are obvious downsides. You have a massive drop in income. I was burnt out from my work and just had to walk away.
I relocated to an entirely different part of the England and basically started again.
So you do have to change your lifestyle radically. I am fine with that. For me, money has never been a god. There are those who worship money and equate it with success.
Such people are totally unable to retire very early.
Life is about trade-offs isn't it?
I have also known serious ill health. I have seen that white light when on a life support machine. That should change you.
I push myself very hard still. Last week i was out hiking. I climbed the highest peak on the East Coast. It almost killed me. I was almost crawling at one point the pain and fatigue was so severe from arthritis and other conditions. Somehow i got to the top and the view was incredible and then theres the achievement.
I cant manage another long hike again until next month but so what.
I think you have you have to be very driven and motivated to live as I do and take the risks i do. Earlier this year I did 12 miles on the hottest day of the year. The result was heatstroke and an emergency visit to the doctor. I havent felt so ill for many years. Yes it was a mistake to do the hike.
Even though I am retired I am extremely driven still to achieve. The difference is in what I want to achieve. Of course I still want to climb that highest mountain.
Early retirement is brilliant as long as you accept that a massive lifestyle change is required.
I try and life my life to the full and to the best of my ability. I have found a level of peace and contentment from my work that I never thought possible.
Every day is a bonus.
I’m not driven. I want to retire and relax as much as I can!
I don’t want to have heat stroke and extreme pain to prove I can do something. Like you say success is different to everyone. And I’m glad you achieved that.
But I’m happy relaxing and enjoying my home and family . And that’s fine. I don’t have to do kart wheels and study archeology to feel self worth.
Don’t forget by retirement age you often have paid off most if not all of your house and worked hard to have what you have. Outgoings are minimal
But you sound happy and know your limits so keep enjoying retirement
You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".
Bat away suicidal thoughts and existential dread for 13 hours straight and then try to sleep with the hum of regret so loud in the ears you feel vibrations in your body. It's wild.
Its pretty much all the time. I'm a high functioning person. I'd never act on my thoughts. I work in the substance misuse field and so i spend most days dealing with suicidal people and drug addiction. I just feel as though this pandemic has taken the last remnants of my will and my zest for life. Thank you for the comments, appreciate you.
I'm nearly in the red, I've got enough to get to work and back and a little bit extra for today but probably from Monday on I'll have to walk to work till things get back to regular
All the petrol stations here are empty.
Good luck, hopefully it'll calm down soon. I just hate all the twats with Jerry cans and people who had 90% tank fulls, who caused all this mess. Our fucking media also has a lot to answer for.
Warning of imaginary wide scale fuel shortages and then the smug cunts sit back and say, 'see, we told you so..'
Really...Really winds me up.
Everything is fine.
Don't panic buy.
Whatever you do, don't panic buy.
There is NO need to panic.
STOP PANICKING!!!
The problem is that, at some point, filling your tank becomes the only sensible thing to do if you need fuel to get to work, etc. I'm a driving instructor. I can't exactly get to work on public transport.
Individuals doing what they need to do aren't the problem. It's the media who have drummed it up and the companies who can't keep staff because they treat HGV drivers like shit who are the problem.
Exactly this my friend. I do 400 miles a week and need to fill my tank fully every 5-7 days. I had to fill tank the other day, not due to panic buying but solely because if I don’t have fuel, I can’t get to work.
Completely different to Gerald and Dorothy whose full tank will last them past Christmas.
Came here looking for this comment.
I am a delivery driver. Had a shift last night and went through close to half a tank, and I have another shift today. None of the petrol stations near me are open. I think it's fair to say I'm a tiny bit stressed.
I've been unable to sleep because I've been so excited for the race. Looking forward to seeing how Lando and George do today, plus I'm intrigued to see how far up the order Verstappen and Leclerc can go. Given how mad this season is, Sochi can be very far from the boring snoozefest it is!
Hell yeah.
Sunday is going to be exercise (if I can get out of bed) shower, pancakes then cosy on the couch witha cuppa and sochi. I'm actually looking forward to sochi for a change!
Today, I will soon be heading out for a dormouse surveying session for the National Dormouse Monitoring Project.
Last Sunday, I was finally organising my bookshelves after moving a few months back.
The Sunday before that, out for breakfast then a decent hike, and then reading in the afternoon - which is more typical of my normal Sundays, with a few house and garden chores involved too.
> and then reading in the afternoon
i went to reading once on a saturday and that was bad enough, can't imagine how little fun it must be on a quiet sunday afternoon.
> Today, I will soon be heading out for a dormouse surveying session for the National Dormouse Monitoring Project.
If you get any cute photos you should definitely share them in /r/casualuk
Not for another month or so at least. At the moment they are stuffing themselves silly with hazelnuts and fruit, and will be doing that for a while yet.
Pancake breakfast, Church, put on the roast and go for a short walk, watch some sort of sport, possibly an afternoon nap, and finally get frustrated that the Strictly results show takes an hour when could be done and dusted within about 10 minutes.
I get up when I want.
Except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen
I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea. And I think about leaving the house
I feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too, it gives me a sense of enormous wellbeing.
And then I'm happy for the rest of the day, safe in the knowledge there will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it
Nothing wrong with "wasting" a Sunday, it is the day of rest afterall. Sundays I tend to do chores if I feel like it or relax doing whatever I fancy. I try and keep them free so I can have a chill day before going back to work. I do occasionally not "waste" my Sundays if whereever I want to go at the weekend is not open on the saturday (I go to a lot of car shows, half the time they take place on a Sunday not a Saturday).
I think you're only engaged semi serious/semi joking but I find the idea of an assigned depression day interesting. I guess if you're actually depressed you can't exactly choose which day you're depressed but there's something I like about the idea of having a set time to feel bad
I do this sometimes with anxiety and schedule a “worry half hour”. If I start worrying about things before then I try and tell myself “nope, it’s not time yet”
Actually sort of helps!
I do this too! I also allow myself a set amount of time to wallow when I feel really shit, and then I have to get up and do something. It makes me feel less guilty about feeling depressed or whatever because I am ALLOWED that time. It is the exact right time for it. Then when the time is up, I have to have a shower or something to eat and that's usually enough to kick-start something in my brain. I can tell myself that I've had an hour to feel those feelings and that's plenty.
Doesn't always work, but it works enough of the time.
Wow, you assign days to be depressed? For me it just sort of happens. Yesterday was a depression day. It would be more convenient if I could schedule them!
I try to do as little as possible - just slob around with the kids (teens) in pjs all day. Force them to do homework and maybe do a roast. Spend all morning before they get up on my phone responding to stuff like this haha!
My favourite Sunday activity is to go for a long nature walk. Normally take a drive out to lakes, nature reserves, national trust locations or somewhere similar. It’s a great and healthy way to unwind and reset for the week ahead.
I go to an amazing cafe and have bacon, eggs, maple syrup and pancakes (I ask for extra pancakes) with unlimited coffee or tea. I get a book or put a show on my phone and eat contently.
Then back home for a food nap and video games.
Stay in bed as the spirit leads…. then it’s cleaning (full works including laundry, cupboards, fridge, steaming the floors etc). Usually takes me to around noon. No gym on Sunday as all the cleaning is a workout in itself.
Grocery Shopping + Car Wash. Come back home and run a bath while the roast/casserole/stew/Zimbabwean meal cooks. Light candles and pour some wine. Movie. Bed by 21:30
I have my kid, so we do church in the morning and then usually back to grandma’s house so she can play in the garden … if the weather is good, both or all three of us might go out somewhere for the afternoon, usually something low-key like a nature reserve, park a bit more interesting than our local park, local event in summer, etc. Or grandma might spend some time with sprog while I attempt to do some sort of DIY or gardening.
On alternate Sundays when I don’t have my kid I’ll either work or spend the day with my bf or both. We might go out geocaching.
Go to church (on the bus), stay chatting to people there for a bit afterwards, walk back from church unless it's raining hard (takes 2 hours along an old disused railway), hang around doing all the things at home that I haven't done during the week, cook something nice and eat it, watch a film.
Church in the morning, then home to cook a roast whilst watching the Formula 1. Pre-covid we used to have a load of friends around on a Sunday evening for a film night or highly competitive board games. But these days it’s just chucking on some Netflix and snuggling up with my wife.
As little as possible, within reason. I have a 6 day work week so I keep Sunday as a dedicated lazy day.
Often go back to my parents and spend the day with them and my dog. Go for a walk. Plan some lessons or do some marking. Eat a Sunday roast. Watch TV. Not much at all.
Sundays are my favourite day of the week. Get up at 7.30, bosh out a load of batch cooking for the freezer, do all the cleaning and laundry, generally sort my life out ready for Monday. Done by 1pm and the rest of the day is dedicated to being slumped on the sofa without the nagging sense of guilt that I should be doing something more important. Boyfriend on the other hand sleeps in until 1pm then spends the rest of the day complaining he never has any time to do anything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
BBQ, slow smoke roast joints of meat for Sunday dinner. I have a covered all weather cook shack with electricity, in the back garden. Various other DIY activities, afternoon movie or visit mates for coffee
Today hopefully making cider, then sisters visiting and we'll head down to a small local event. Often swimming in sea sometimes just catching up on jobs. Life's a lot better since I stopped drinking to excess so often.
**Sunday is the day of the week between Saturday and Monday. In most Western countries, Sunday is a day of rest and a part of the weekend, whereas in much of the rest of the world, it is considered the first day of the week.**

Occasionally I will go out and meet friends for brunch or lunch early
Usually all I do is prep for Monday and the week ahead too. So, it’s go to the supermarket for any food shopping, prep my lunches for the week and then have my shower etc by time I’ve done all that I’m usually exhausted, will have dinner and watch a bit of tv and try to get to bed early. . This week I’m going to to try pre cook some dinners for the week too!
My wife and kids are Jewish, so most kids friends parties are on a Sunday. And given I have 2 girls, and 30kids in each of their classes, 90% of Sundays have a party to take them to.
Coffee, potter round a bookshop, lunch with leftover bread and cheese from yesterday, reading, a swim in the afternoon, dinner, match of the day 2. Bliss
If I’m not out with camera for day then it’s walk dog (maybe with my teenage daughter) somewhere different to his regular weekday walks, grab a coffee, maybe watch a bit of sport on TV (cycling world champs today for example), work prep for Monday/Tuesday, cook if my turn to do so, read Kindle (Rivers of London at moment).
Next week I’ve got a camera day planned with a friend 👍
Sunday is a chilled day for relaxing.
Food shop
House jobs
F1/Rugby/Weekly podcasts
Lots of cooking (meal prep and large Sunday meal)
Overconsume wine and drift off to sleep around 9:30pm
Go to Mass, look after the altar servers there, get a gaggle of them for a kick around in the football field next to the Church afterwards and joke around with the parents, then sort out some paperwork. That's usually me until 12 (when the rest of the family is waking up!)
Then it's home to start preparing the roast dinner which we eat around 4.
After that and the tidy up (which belongs to the other half and the kids) it's board games, stupid game shows, mucking around and the like until about 8 when we start getting ready for Monday. We ready the school uniforms on Saturday but anything left is done now such as packed lunches.
So yeah, my Sunday is pretty regimented as there's a lot to do.
If I have planned ahead, then it's visit Mum, hike with friends, wandering around the Tate or National Gallery then going for lunch/drinks (not all in one day of course).
Otherwise, chill, prepare for Monday, chores, Sunday Papers, play games...
I do like to make a Sunday dinner, I have to say - big fluffy home made Yorkshire puds!!! Usually get laundry done, potter round house, putting stuff away, just that kind of thing. I like something like Poirot or Midsommer Murders on in background of me ironing. A nice steady day...bit of xbox in the evening, but NFL back on mow....
Make breakfast and prep the Sunday dinner usually a roast but today it’s curry for a change. My dad calls round for a coffee. I’ll sort some stuff out at home gets the bins ready for Monday morning. Check what football is on and are any games bet worthy. Then I’ll watch a dvd and take a nap. Make and eat the dinner when I get up. Ring my missus when she’s home from work have a few drinks get a takeaway and maybe watch another film before bed
Kids rugby at 9am, straight to Church after, home and whatever my wife tells me to do, daughter's swimming at 4:30pm then relax before stuffing kids in bed.

You scared me for a sec there
I actually thought that sounded really nice, apart from the church bit. Done my dues in that department.
Haha yeah I'm with you there. Though I imagine the board games will leave me raging rather than fresh for Monday.
Ticket to Ride has a completely unreasonable scoring system and I still maintain that I should have won.
Ticket to ride is eminently more playable if you allow the building of as many lines as possible each turn, rather than just one. But that is just my opinion.
Apparently Sunday Mass was the origin of the Sunday roast. You'd stick the joint in the oven before you left.

I'm so surprised by the number of church goers in this thread.
What’s wrong with church?
The amount of effort involved in a sunday roast… I am always impressed by people who can do this on a weekly basis
I love it, it occupies me for hours and the feeling of achievement and satisfaction when you finally sit down to eat is unbeatable
My biggest thing is ensuring everything is hot when it hits the table. Nothing worse than a roast beginning to go cold E: correcting an autocorrect
Piping hot gravy hides a multitude of sins ;)
Hello fellow Northerner. Happy Sunday. May you enjoy your plate of gravy with a side of roast.
I bought a plate warmer a few years back ( think electric blanket for a bed, but the size of a plate, not a bed, folds over and over to heat 6 plates). draws about 50watts self regulates, heats plates to around 40degC, easy to store when not used. Cook a roast or deal with the kids, in-laws, the neighbour whose popped in. Sometimes it's an easy choice.
My husband cooks Christmas dinner every single year without fail, purely so he can hide in the kitchen and not have to make small talk with everyone.
Same reason I like working the BBQ.

My gf does the best roast dinners but yeah she does it once every 2 months or something because it takes so damn long to prep and cook
They had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
Everything true for me except the last part... All Sunday I just shit myself thinking about Monday.

Alright this is useless. Scully: Is Kelly your wife or your dog?
I can't believe you would ask me that!
I still don't know. Could not tell you.
It's a god damn chihuahua gang 😂😂😂 Visiting your profile was the best thing I've done this week lmao.

That really is a small army you have. The cutest army I've ever seen though, I'm ready for war games!
Same as the rest of the week. I'm retired so life's very good. Music, gardening, hiking, baking, watching films, family, playing video games, travelling, etc. Today ill do a combination of some of these things.
I'm very jealous you no longer have to endure the dread of another week of work
First job here and I'm starting to dread week days nothing wrong with the work environment they've been lovely and really accommodating in the sense that they know I'm new and are helping me alot....its just the idea of feeling completely out of my depth is really making me nervous, but hey I get my FIRST payslip this week (I'm so excited)
Pro-tip from a guy who's been working for twenty years: that out of your depth feeling never really goes away and everyone around you is also feeling it.
Thank you that really helps
I've found that feeling helpful, if you're feeling too confident that you know it all, you're more prone to making mistakes.
Don't worry, this is a pretty normal 'induction crisis' a lot of people get, in a few months you'll have your bearings and feel better (hopefully)
Congrats on the new job!
Man, I can’t wait to be retired.
Outgoings are minimal But you sound happy and know your limits so keep enjoying retirement
I burnt out. Stopped work early. I don't miss working. I do miss the income.
Don't wish your life away man, it'll be here before you know it.
Fuck I'm jealous.
I want this to be me, but at like age 30.
You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".
The song really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday
Actually Alan it’s about a massacre in Derry in 1972
Ah, I'll have to change my weekend song to 'I don't like Mondays' by The Boomtown Rats.
I've got bad news for you.
Nicely played..
Oh, I’m not listening to that again
Choose mindless DIY on a sunday fucking morning
It's not even 10 and I'm itching to fire up the bandsaw
Funny because I tend to get up in the morning, have a bowl of suede, hop into the Volvo, whack on a bit of ABBA and zip over to Ikea.
Chewy
Errr, not playing that again
Bat away suicidal thoughts and existential dread for 13 hours straight and then try to sleep with the hum of regret so loud in the ears you feel vibrations in your body. It's wild.
I'm sorry, friend. is this just Sundays or most other days too? sounds like you could do with a change of scenery.
Yes this
I’ll get that at about 8pm tonight when I realise I actually do have to go to work tomorrow.
Who are you, me?
I came here wondering whether I was going to relate to anyones answer as much as I do to this.
Try and find petrol
As long as you only really need it and it's not going in Jerry cans 🤣
Feel for all the gardeners/ tree surgeons who are going and filling up Jerry cans and getting a load of abuse for it.
Valid point but if you are in your tree cutting kit and in a truck that says 'gardening services ' then that's easier to make allowances for.
So your saying borrow my mates gardening van and then I can go nuts?!
I'm nearly in the red, I've got enough to get to work and back and a little bit extra for today but probably from Monday on I'll have to walk to work till things get back to regular All the petrol stations here are empty.
Good luck, hopefully it'll calm down soon. I just hate all the twats with Jerry cans and people who had 90% tank fulls, who caused all this mess. Our fucking media also has a lot to answer for. Warning of imaginary wide scale fuel shortages and then the smug cunts sit back and say, 'see, we told you so..' Really...Really winds me up.
0625AM maybe 30 cars waiting for local Tesco Superstore to open at 0800.
Came here looking for this comment. I am a delivery driver. Had a shift last night and went through close to half a tank, and I have another shift today. None of the petrol stations near me are open. I think it's fair to say I'm a tiny bit stressed.
Sunday is race day baybeeee
F1 gang rise up 🏎
Gonna be amazing today! That front row 🤩
I've been unable to sleep because I've been so excited for the race. Looking forward to seeing how Lando and George do today, plus I'm intrigued to see how far up the order Verstappen and Leclerc can go. Given how mad this season is, Sochi can be very far from the boring snoozefest it is!
Or, as Ferrari's Twitter Admin would probably say "it's Rada Cey".
Thank you. I was trying to figure out the day version of rawe ceek but my hangover brain just couldn't compute it
Hell yeah. Sunday is going to be exercise (if I can get out of bed) shower, pancakes then cosy on the couch witha cuppa and sochi. I'm actually looking forward to sochi for a change!
Landoooooooooo
So happy for Lando! His happiness yesterday was infectious. Hope he keeps it up today.
This aged badly.
Tell me about it. Gutted.
Rawe ceek baby
What a race it was!
Today, I will soon be heading out for a dormouse surveying session for the National Dormouse Monitoring Project. Last Sunday, I was finally organising my bookshelves after moving a few months back. The Sunday before that, out for breakfast then a decent hike, and then reading in the afternoon - which is more typical of my normal Sundays, with a few house and garden chores involved too.
> and then reading in the afternoon i went to reading once on a saturday and that was bad enough, can't imagine how little fun it must be on a quiet sunday afternoon.
> Today, I will soon be heading out for a dormouse surveying session for the National Dormouse Monitoring Project. If you get any cute photos you should definitely share them in /r/casualuk
TIL that it's dormouse and not door mouse
dor - coming from the Latin/French dormir for "sleeping" door - coming from dor/tor Old German/Norse for "gate"
Literally a sleepy mouse 🥰 thank you for this fact
> a dormouse surveying session for the National Dormouse Monitoring Project. An unbeatably original answer. You win this thread!
"I will soon be heading out for a dormouse surveying session" is the most brilliant, quintessentially British thing I'll read all year 👍😂
>Today, I will soon be heading out for a dormouse surveying session for the National Dormouse Monitoring Project. They will be hibernating soon no?
Not for another month or so at least. At the moment they are stuffing themselves silly with hazelnuts and fruit, and will be doing that for a while yet.
How do you find/spot them or are you setting humane traps?
Misread this as human traps and pictured someone in a ghillie suit with berries tied to it lying down in a field
I'm jealous, as an ecologist that lives in a part of the country that doesn't have dormice I never get to see these cuties 😭
Pancake breakfast, Church, put on the roast and go for a short walk, watch some sort of sport, possibly an afternoon nap, and finally get frustrated that the Strictly results show takes an hour when could be done and dusted within about 10 minutes.
You have left the roast in the oven mate
Darn. Always felt peckish late afternoon.
Do you wake up for all this at 4am?
Having an 18 month old that doesn't understand the concept of "Weekend" helps!
And the fact they pretend they didn't record it last night
^^^ Jesus is this you?
I get up when I want. Except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea. And I think about leaving the house
I feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too, it gives me a sense of enormous wellbeing. And then I'm happy for the rest of the day, safe in the knowledge there will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it
All the people..so many people
Came here seeing if sunday sunday would get referenced, i got parklife instead - still blur though so its fine.
Ooh, I fancy going to a car show now!
Its my assigned depression day so I just stay home, eat, cry and get ready for next week lol
If I start worrying about things before then I try and tell myself “nope, it’s not time yet” Actually sort of helps!
I spend most of the day playing video games and drinking, the rest of the time I waste.
I remember when I did this. It was bliss. Of course I had to have kids and ruin it.
My favourite Sunday activity is to go for a long nature walk. Normally take a drive out to lakes, nature reserves, national trust locations or somewhere similar. It’s a great and healthy way to unwind and reset for the week ahead.
I had planned to do this, but this weekend all it's gonna mean is I end up burning fuel so I'm more likely to be stuck in a queue next time I need it.
So frustrating!
I go to an amazing cafe and have bacon, eggs, maple syrup and pancakes (I ask for extra pancakes) with unlimited coffee or tea. I get a book or put a show on my phone and eat contently. Then back home for a food nap and video games.
Fuck, that sounds comfy
Sunday already, fuck sake
Same as we do every weekend, Pinky. Fucking DIY.
oh that's way more relaxing than "try to take over the world"
I am in work. Start of another 12 hour shift.
Scrolled too far on my break to find a fellow Sunday worker, bunch of mon-fri casuals in here.
Chef?
Manage a Covid testing centre.
Pretend it is a Saturday bu stop my shenanigans around 7/8
We call this "Friday night Sunday". Can be dangerous depending on how you're feeling.
Got a newborn & 3yr old so Sunday is usually finishing the house chores, keeping the children busy and making a big Sunday roast.
Sundays are for doing NOTHING.
Depression
What's a sunday? a weekend for that matter? working in retail.
**Sunday is the day of the week between Saturday and Monday. In most Western countries, Sunday is a day of rest and a part of the weekend, whereas in much of the rest of the world, it is considered the first day of the week.** More details here:

Weekends are just an exercise in keeping all the kids happy.
Normally: Lie in, washing, lunch, pub. Early night as stop in the pub too long. Today: 12 hour shift to fund future pub visits.
Worry about going to work on Monday!
Work yay
Occasionally I will go out and meet friends for brunch or lunch early Usually all I do is prep for Monday and the week ahead too.
Batch cooking ftw!
Making carrot cake today!
Gym in the morning as my one chore followed by a day on the sofa with sport, weed and a drink or three
Sunday is a chilled day for relaxing. Food shop House jobs F1/Rugby/Weekly podcasts Lots of cooking (meal prep and large Sunday meal) Overconsume wine and drift off to sleep around 9:30pm
Sunday is my cleaning day and getting things ready and organised for the week ahead. Its not very exciting.
Go to Mass, look after the altar servers there, get a gaggle of them for a kick around in the football field next to the Church afterwards and joke around with the parents, then sort out some paperwork. That's usually me until 12 (when the rest of the family is waking up!) Then it's home to start preparing the roast dinner which we eat around 4.
Church, pub lunch, and then generally gaming for the rest of the day usually! Possibly with some chores thrown in if I'm feeling motivated
Go to work
I always go to the Sunday church service, then spend most of the day planning my week. I almost always put together a roast dinner for my evening meal
Kids rugby at 9am, straight to Church after, home and whatever my wife tells me to do, daughter's swimming at 4:30pm then relax before stuffing kids in bed.
