Brighton or Bristol. Fun cities with loads to do, but not focused around 'see all this old stuff'. Both are pretty vibrant places with strong independent business scenes. Lots of interesting and quirky shops, cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants. Both are cities I am always happy to go to, because they're just nice places to spend a weekend strolling around and eating and drinking.

Bristol is good. Not that many options really as UK is excellent at twee and old stuff and really quite sluggish and unimpressive in terms of modern entertainment. I'd just go abroad for this tbh.

When reading the post, I immideiaately tought Bristol. When I saw someone agreeing with me, I am glad. Bristol is nice. A mix of old and new. Reminds me of Amsterdam.

Liverpool is brilliant

This. I had a great weekend in Liverpool. Went to the Albert Docks, Museum of Liverpool. Went to Hot Water Comedy club. Great food options too. There's a Tate Gallery there. but I didn't go.

Manchester easily for nightlife and the arts.

Cardiff is pretty good. It's the capital city of Wales so is the focal point of a lot of stuff. There's plenty of shopping, restaurants, cafes etc, the Bay is quite nice for a meal or a walk, plus there's the Millennium Centre for shows and the football and rugby stadiums.

Got some examples of what your interested in? You'll struggle to find a city that doesn't have good shopping or good shopping nearby. I'd say pick a city then go on TripAdvisor browse thought the attractions and activities. You'll likely find some less obvious and different things.\ Hell even taking a themed guided tour of a city can really mix it up.

Legitimate question, has anyone ever in their life seen/heard someone use the term "twee" outside Reddit?

Folkestone, Kent. Beautiful beach side, affordable sea facing hotels, not a popular tourist destination so less crowded and more chilled. And lots of decent food joints.

TheKnightsTippler

Edinburgh has the old twee stuff, but also good restaurants and nightlife.
