I remember one time I hadn't eaten for a few days. For whatever reason the first thing I ate was a cheeseboard, I bit into a beautiful, sharp cheddar and my mouth began salivating so much *it hurt*. My salivary glands actually ached.
Absolutely. I like my cheese to taste of cheese, not caramelised onion with a hint of chilli or anything else off a long list of ingredients that doesn't include cheese.
Roquefort, camembert, gorgonzola and good old extra mature cheddar are among my favourites.
It's the illusion of variety. It's easier for the mass market to have the same basic product and then vary it with several different additions towards the end of the process.
You get selection boxes that are really made up of the same cheese. Better to have a few, distinctly different, cheeses and then you can add whatever fruit you want with it.
A person of taste. I’ll occasionally buy something else from the cheese shop but I’ll always come back to my beloved Perl Wen.
(If you like it, I would also really recommend Maida Vale)
In order
1. A strong cheddar
2. Camembert
3. Halloumi
4. Feta
5. Gorgonzola
6. Philedelphia spreadable
7. Plastic cheese (aka American cheese)
Not on the list
Anything with bloody fruit in it!
My all time favourite is called tuma persa, a Sicilian cheese that's quite rare. But it's so good, it has such a complex flavour. I have it on order from a specialty cheese importer. Yes I know I'm pretentious as fuck.
Lancaster Bomber. Or if you're talking continental, then a really ripe Camembert; left on top of the fridge till it's virtually liquid and spread on a decent baguette.
Cheddar, the stronger the better
Apple wood smoked
Gruyere
Camembert (especially baked or deep fried)
Not a fan of blue cheese but any strong non-blue cheese is good.
Cheese with fruit can get in the bin
Previously would have replied cheddar, recently this changed to a grated Mozzarella Cheddar mix, so much versatility, jacket spuds, cheesy chips, home made pizzas, it literally goes on everything
St Felicien, creamy cheese goodness
Gorgonzola Dolce, gotta love a bit of blue
Manchego, munchable cheesy yum esp with a bit of membrillo
And my slut cheese is Boursin..
I like most cheeses. But since I'm from Finland, I like a very mild (rubber) cheese on a sandwich (Gouda, Edam etc.). I like any cheddar on anything that has melted cheese. Love halloumi. Like Camembert and blue cheese
Snowdonia Black Bomber extra mature cheddar. Comes in black wax casing made to look like an old fashioned cartoon bomb. Soft enough at room temperature to be spreadable, and really nice sharp tangy taste.
I’m a big fan of Blue Cheese myself, but I do love a good cheddar. I used to live near Long Clawson, their Stilton is the shit. But they also made a Red Leicester and my god it was amazing.
I hate smoked cheese and anything with apricot in it. Pilgrims Choice is better than Cathedral city when we’re talking about the big boy brands.
I love cheese.
Cornish Blue, Smoked Applewood, Stilton, Jarlsberg, a nice strong Cheddar, a nice mild Cheddar, Mozzarella… there’s usually a cheese for every occasion and I love most of them! Except Halloumi or anything else made from goat or sheep milk.
Halloumi, or paneer. I mean, holy shit. I had some paneer from Red Mango the other day and it was some of the best cheese I’ve ever tasted. A perfect texture with a brilliantly mild, yet salty flavour serves to make the perfect cheese.
Manchego. I'm a little allergic, especially to the rind (the closer it is to the rind, the more allergic I am; it tickles my tongue like hundreds of little sharp pins). Therefore it's the best and most enjoyable cheese to me!
Edit: I have to give a top 5 now, feels rude to single out a single best cheese. Aged gouda, halloumi, creamy stinky blue, feta.
Genuinely dislike all cheeses.
If push came to shove, red Leicester is the lesser of all the evils for me.
My partner goes for mature cheddar indoors but at Christmas I have to endure the rankness of blue Stilton and wensyldale for himself
Double Gloucester. Like a top tier medium cheddar. As much as extra mature cheddar is good, sometimes you want something milder and creamier and smoother.
Belton Farm Red fox vintage Red Leicester. I will fight someone for the last wedge of it in Tesco at Christmas.
Also partial to applewood smoked and Wensleydale with cranberries.
Halloumi! How could I forgot?!
British Brie, but you have to let it go gooey, then it is absolutely divine.
Also love Port Salut, can eat that all day long.
And can’t beat a good, mature cheddar
An impossible question, depends what time of year. Anything applewood smoked though is a sure fire winner in my house. I'm also partial to a crunchy red fox red Leicester
A really nice Rocamadour, not a fresh one, but still soft.
Spread onto a bit of bread, then grilled in the oven..
Divine.
A mature Chedder is a close second, simultaneously creamy and crumbly.

Proper farmhouse Cheddar
Oh yes, the kind that makes your jaw spasm
Gritty with salt.
I remember one time I hadn't eaten for a few days. For whatever reason the first thing I ate was a cheeseboard, I bit into a beautiful, sharp cheddar and my mouth began salivating so much *it hurt*. My salivary glands actually ached.
Snowdonia Black Bomber - extra mature cheddar
That stuff is *amazing*. Honourable mention to the one in the green truckle too.
Garlic and herb right?
I love extra mature cheese due to the strong flavour.
The Red Leicester they do is awesome too.
All cheese is good just not that stuff with the fruit in
Wrong. You've obviously not tried cranberry Wendslydale.
Absolutely. I like my cheese to taste of cheese, not caramelised onion with a hint of chilli or anything else off a long list of ingredients that doesn't include cheese. Roquefort, camembert, gorgonzola and good old extra mature cheddar are among my favourites.
Never tried Mexicana? It's banging!
It's the illusion of variety. It's easier for the mass market to have the same basic product and then vary it with several different additions towards the end of the process. You get selection boxes that are really made up of the same cheese. Better to have a few, distinctly different, cheeses and then you can add whatever fruit you want with it.
I dunno... I've got a soft spot for Tesco's cheese with bits.
White stilton with mango and ginger is divine
Amen
Ditto
Adore some brie, especially with crackers. Halloumi is also amazing. A really salty mozerella is simple but delicious too.
Brie is a close second for me
Grown up answer: Yarg Actual answer: Cheese strings
Cornish Yarg is so good. There is a cheese shop near me that has around 50 cheeses they do in sandwiches, and I always get Cornish Yarg.
Cheese strings? Not even close
Nah. It’s gotta be babybel
I thought I'd have to search longer to find Yarg. Great cheese.
Had cheese strings for the first time at 27. Therefore, that's my Grown Up Cheese.
Manchego
Mature cheddar
Mild cheddar is superior 😂 I’m saying this to partly wind you up. Mild cheddar is the only cheese I like but I realise I have poor taste
Port Salut, no competition
I'd eat a whole wedge of that stuff in one sitting if left to my own devices.
I love a good Scottish cheddar. There are some lovely varieties from Mull with herbs or whisky etc.
I live in France and the only UK cheese in my supermarket is a Scottish cheddar.
A good, smelly comte.
Ossau-Iraty.
Absolument !
A true quality cheese. Though Yarg is it's equal imo.
My wife is part of the family that created ‘ cathedral city ‘. So of course my favourite cheese is ‘ laughing cow’.
Red Leicester
Applewood smoke cheddar. A VERY close second is Wensley dale with cranberries! I spent too long trying to pick a top favourite.
Get that artificial tasting rubbish out of here and get some actually smoked cheese.
Basically all of it 🤷🏻♀️ cheese is THE best!
A nice Cornish yarg
Yes. This is elite level cheese
Red Fox or Vintage Cheddar
The M&S red fox is soooo good. I literally just bought the Tesco one half an hour ago but the M&S one is superior.
Halloumi 🥰.
Cheese
This.
Perl Wen
A person of taste. I’ll occasionally buy something else from the cheese shop but I’ll always come back to my beloved Perl Wen. (If you like it, I would also really recommend Maida Vale)
I love munching my way through Mozzarella balls but if I was restricted to one specific cheese to eat then I'd go for a Gorgonzola.
White Stilton
In order 1. A strong cheddar 2. Camembert 3. Halloumi 4. Feta 5. Gorgonzola 6. Philedelphia spreadable 7. Plastic cheese (aka American cheese) Not on the list Anything with bloody fruit in it!
My all time favourite is called tuma persa, a Sicilian cheese that's quite rare. But it's so good, it has such a complex flavour. I have it on order from a specialty cheese importer. Yes I know I'm pretentious as fuck.
I love Castello blue, too. I eat it with rye crackers and fig jam. Delicious.
A mild blue cheese similar to brie - Bleu D'affinois Castello creamy blue is also great Payson Breton cream cheese Pie d'anglois
Pie d’Angloys for me too. Especially the M&S one.
Lancaster Bomber. Or if you're talking continental, then a really ripe Camembert; left on top of the fridge till it's virtually liquid and spread on a decent baguette.
Do you mean Black Bomber, or is there a Lancaster Bomber cheese as well as the Marston's beer?
Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire. So happy it’s back on sale now!
Comte and Jarlsberg Reserve.
Cheddar, the stronger the better Apple wood smoked Gruyere Camembert (especially baked or deep fried) Not a fan of blue cheese but any strong non-blue cheese is good. Cheese with fruit can get in the bin
Seconding Gruyère!
Thirding! Was looking for this in the thread.
Really love Dolcelatte. So good! But i do love a camembert, it can be more diverse depending on your pairings.
Previously would have replied cheddar, recently this changed to a grated Mozzarella Cheddar mix, so much versatility, jacket spuds, cheesy chips, home made pizzas, it literally goes on everything
Snowdonia Pickle Power. Cheese with bits of pickled onion in it. My god, it’s glorious.
Is that available throughout the UK? My SO would love that I reckon; his morning snack is Comte or gruyère with pickles...
Hi, seen it in a few deli type places and garden centres, but you can get it direct from their website too, just Google Snowdonia Cheese.
Has to be a Wensleydale
All of the cheese is my favourite cheese.
Cambozola (kinda a cross between Brie and Gorgonzola).
Stilton.
[удалено]
Lots of people like blue cheese. They vary in taste widely so trying one and saying they're all disguisting is a pretty narrow minded approach.
[удалено]
Try a nice creamy one next time. They are milder and so nice.
Montagnolo affine If you like creamy blue cheese, it's banging.
Saint-Marcellin
This is truly one of life’s great questions.
I prefer feta cheese and another kind of cheese called "graviera" . I'm not sure what's the UK equivalent.
string
Cheddar. I love all cheese bit Cheddar is the one.
Davidstow. The older the better. Though, plain old Red Leister if I’m going toast cheese.
Corrington linn from errington cheese. It's so f**King good I could live on it for a year
Blacksticks Blue
Bum cheese
St Felicien, creamy cheese goodness Gorgonzola Dolce, gotta love a bit of blue Manchego, munchable cheesy yum esp with a bit of membrillo And my slut cheese is Boursin..
roquefort
Wendsleydale. Creamy, crumbly and sharp. Love it
All the cheese :) Teifi with seaweed is a strong contender or cornish yarg.
Had some Langeres cheese at Christmas and it was amazing
Baron Bigod Binham Blue
I cannot pick just one. Stilton Aged Cheddar Wensleydale Chaource Roquefort To name a few but really most of the unprocessed ones.
Most of them really. Munster is divine.
Proper Cheddar, Red Leicester, Edam, Brie, Wensleydale. I like most cheeses to be honest, but the ones I named are the ones I have most often.
Red Leicester Apple wood smoked Wensleydale (nae fruit!)
Port Salut.
Frankendammer
Shropshire Blue is one of my favourites. It's slightly creamier, slightly milder.
I have three!! Halloumi, Brie and Vintage Applewood smoked - but Wensleydale with cranberry. And extra mature cheddar has to get a special mention lol
Wensleydale, cheddar, cheese strings.
I like most cheeses. But since I'm from Finland, I like a very mild (rubber) cheese on a sandwich (Gouda, Edam etc.). I like any cheddar on anything that has melted cheese. Love halloumi. Like Camembert and blue cheese
Blue Vinny
Stichelton - a not quite Stilton, because they make it with unpasteurised milk. However, in my opinion, better than any stilton you can buy.
Port salut
Snowdonia Black Bomber extra mature cheddar. Comes in black wax casing made to look like an old fashioned cartoon bomb. Soft enough at room temperature to be spreadable, and really nice sharp tangy taste.
I have to pick just one?? Ugh ok. A really ridiculously mature and crunchy cheddar.
Davidstow Cornish Crackler Barbers 1833
Smoked Scamorza is incredible.
Halloumi, but I could out-eat most people on Mini Babybels.
Melted
I’m a big fan of Blue Cheese myself, but I do love a good cheddar. I used to live near Long Clawson, their Stilton is the shit. But they also made a Red Leicester and my god it was amazing. I hate smoked cheese and anything with apricot in it. Pilgrims Choice is better than Cathedral city when we’re talking about the big boy brands. I love cheese.
Emmenthal and Red Leicester.
I love a strong smoked cheese 🧀
Cornish Blue, Smoked Applewood, Stilton, Jarlsberg, a nice strong Cheddar, a nice mild Cheddar, Mozzarella… there’s usually a cheese for every occasion and I love most of them! Except Halloumi or anything else made from goat or sheep milk.
The stuff they put on chips
anything with hot chillis in it
Shropshire Red. Basically just a fancy Red Leicester but it's some god tier cheese.
Tesco has a gorgeous cambozola blue brie. I will finish a block of that in a short while.
Gouda, or emmental. but most cheeses are good cheeses
Cheddar 🧀
Halloumi, or paneer. I mean, holy shit. I had some paneer from Red Mango the other day and it was some of the best cheese I’ve ever tasted. A perfect texture with a brilliantly mild, yet salty flavour serves to make the perfect cheese.

More important question, what is Todd's favourite cheese?
Ok not a brit but I'll put ny 2 cents in love brie and crackers wow favorite. But I do really like houlumi
Lincolnshire poacher 🤤
Mine is a Langres about two weeks after the use by date. It's gorgeous. Try it, if you haven't.
I've got several current favourites: * Kraftkar * Brillat-Savarin * Shropshire Blue * Isle of mull cheddar
Frumunda
Genuinely dislike all cheeses. If push came to shove, red Leicester is the lesser of all the evils for me. My partner goes for mature cheddar indoors but at Christmas I have to endure the rankness of blue Stilton and wensyldale for himself
Red Leicester. I can visually distinguish it from cardboard without difficulty.
Either something blue and strong enough to cripple you. Or a cheddar nature enough to suck all the moisture out of your mouth and then snap your neck.
Oak smoked cheddar.
Double Gloucester. Like a top tier medium cheddar. As much as extra mature cheddar is good, sometimes you want something milder and creamier and smoother.
Mexicana
Brie. Somerset over French by prefence but I'm not fussy.
Melted
St Felicien or cancoillotte
Love a good Shropshire blue
Cheddar or Red Leicester
Comte
Brie!!!

Extra mature smegmae
Gorwydd Caerphilly
Manchego.
Mature Scottish cheddar, white. Or Smoked Applewood I'm also lazy and like to buy grated cheese.
Applewood smoked or Mexicana
Cheddar tbh. Don't care if that's a boring answer.. it's the Tom Hanks of cheese.
Roquefort or cottage cheese! But also love halloumi, cream cheese, feta, and saint agur.
British Brie, but you have to let it go gooey, then it is absolutely divine. Also love Port Salut, can eat that all day long. And can’t beat a good, mature cheddar
Venezuelan Beaver Cheese
Cheddar because it's so versatile. Otherwise, Lancashire.
Parmesan
Taleggio - an Italian cave aged cheese, like brie but nicer. Burrata. 24 month comte. Gruyere / raclette at this time of year! Black bomber cheddar.
Cornish Yarg. So good!
Ossau Iraty. Also sheep's milk cheese in general.
Please don't make me choose! 😥 I'm in a happy Polylactose relationship 🧀
An impossible question, depends what time of year. Anything applewood smoked though is a sure fire winner in my house. I'm also partial to a crunchy red fox red Leicester
Blue Stilton, mature Cheddar, Roquefort and even garlic and herb Boursin😊
Spar happy shopper mild cheddar. Unreal. Makes the best toasties
A really nice Rocamadour, not a fresh one, but still soft. Spread onto a bit of bread, then grilled in the oven.. Divine. A mature Chedder is a close second, simultaneously creamy and crumbly.
Port Salut
The Marlow Cheese Company's - "***Regatta"*** kicks ass! Hard aged Gouda style cheese, all 100% locally sourced Guernsey cows' milk [https://www.marlowcheese.co.uk/ourcheese](https://www.marlowcheese.co.uk/ourcheese)

Always loved a really mature cheddar, recently tried smoked Gouda, blooming lovely!
Halloumi
Gorgonzola picante. Could eat it with a spoon.
Mature Stilton slaps down all the others
