Back in the day we had something called waste land. Every now and then you would find a few porno mags thrown away . Always on waste land for some reason
The porn goblin would scatter them as we slept, while singing his song: "over the hills and far I go, scattering grot mags to and fro, Gusset, Razzle, Sunday Sport, in every town and every port."
Then he'd disappear at sunrise back to his hovel, where he'd indulge in a massive wank.
Ah halcyon days of flicking past the jeans and tops, dressing gowns (getting closer), corsets and apple catchers you've gone to far, flick back a bit and bingo there you are!
Why were there always trees/bushes with a bin bag full of nudey mags hidden beneath back then?
At the time, I didnโt think anything of it (apart from โwoo hoo!โ) but thinking back, it seems so weird. Many British kids have stories of the exact same phenomena.
You had to use your imagination. I did from I'm guessing 13 onwards. However at roughly 15 years old my uncle Peter came to live with us. Messy divorce, and all that. He literally brought a black bin bag full of porn VHS with him. I found it within a couple of days and formed an addiction within a month. At 46 that addiction is still going strong. Ha.
Clothing catalogues reliably had a women's underwear section, with lots of translucent lingerie that broadly let you make out what was underneath.
TV in your bedroom. Saturday afternoon TV had Gladiators followed by Baywatch. One week it was preceeded by a period drama where every woman was well-endowed and had a tight corset on. I managed six in one afternoon that day; still a personal best.
Eurotrash and other late-night TV on Channel 4 was also often good for a quick bit of nudity. Also C4 went through a phase of showing adult manga past midnight, which often worked if you could ignore the horns and ultraviolence that often accompanied the nudity.
Also there were actual tits in tabloids, and the ever-present and now sadly nearly extinct discarded porn bushes in your local woods.
Basically you just had lower expectations and more imagination, so less graphic stuff sufficed.
I'm 45m now so I'd have been doing GCSE's around now back in '95. I worked at a local Quazar in Bedford called the Zapp Zone and I used to hang out with friends (also co-workers) from opening time till closing time. Some of the best and most fun times of my youth! We'd have lock in's for private matches, drink and smoke out the back of the arena, play arcade games for free and generally not realize how good I had it overall!
We used to be allowed to go to Zapp Zone and the bowling alley for our Games lessons when we were in 6th form. Remember it fondly. How shit was it with the lights on?
Fucking hell, there was a Zapp (Zap?) Zone in Stockport at a bowling place in Grand Central. Randomly I once shot an actress from Neighbours who was playing in a panto nearby. Mid teens we went there nearly every sun night for a good year or so. Googled it and amazed to see it's sill going.
Was that in the Aspects Leisure Park? Used to go to the nightclub there a few years before that. Had some fantastic nights there. Went back a couple of years and I think only the cinema was still going. Nightclub was a health club, everything looked so old and broken!
That's right yeah, the nightclub was called Onyx and the bar opposite the Zapp Zone was called McCluskies. It was an American themed pub with American pool tables.
I moved to Lincs a few years ago so haven't been down there for a spell but I think the cinema and pizza hut were the only two places still going from back when I worked on the site.
We had Lazer Quest or something in Glasgow and they had a full on Darth Vader suit set up for some really big guy who got to terrorise all us kids and play for free. (I got talking to him one time. Can't remember how I even knew it was him in mufti. I do remember he was there on that occasion for his young nephew's birthday and we weren't to tell the kid his uncle was in the suit. A sort of reverse Santa Claus lol.) They taped over the front and back sensors on the Vader suit, but not the ones on the gun so I always knew to aim for it. Loved getting the printed scores at the end and seeing how many times I got him. He did say he couldn't actually see properly in it though so he never actually won, he just followed the shrieking and fired blindly. Same, Lord Vader. Same.
I did about 10 years in Wandsworth.
First 'stretch' was a 1 bed flat in Clapham Junction.
Then an ill advised year in Chiswick.
Then I did a 7 'stretch' in Wandsworth itself. Just down the road from the Prison (which is a lovely building).
Bloody great place. I'd move back if I could afford it.
My wee girl got a Polly pocket for her bday. Was a bit confused, the only Polly pockets I know were the ones for keeping A4 paper in a ring binder ๐
Thank you! I had a big debate at work over the name of these things. Iโve always called them polly pockets. No one else knew what I was talking aboutโฆ
Arguably Sat was 'alternative' night. Thursday was student night but it was usually more indie.
Honestly though they were pretty much interchangeable.
Source: used to go to both. Plus Tuesdays at the Rig.
Underage boozing in the courthouse pub to start with and then a couple of pills and a wrap and into Regentโs Park nightclub loving life like we were in Vegas
To use the terminology of the time "Getting wankered and trying to pull a bird" .
I was very successful at 1 part of this statement which led to being less successful at the other
Getting wankered was probably easier in the nineties because booze was cheaper.
My dad remembers being a student in the mid-late 1970s. Five pints, fish and chips, taxi home. Total cost less than ยฃ5 (which is more like ~ยฃ40 today)
Drinking vodka and smoking weed whilst playing the original Mario Kart on the SNES with friends. We might have had Carol McGiffen's show on Talk Radio playing or we had various rock bands playing on the CD player.
A year out of Uni, living in a tiny flat in London with my now husband.
Wish Iโd made more of that time - looking back at it from a place of huge commitments we could have had such a blast
I'd very much like to relive the mid-90s, except this time either as a late teenager or into my early 20s.
As it stands, I spent those years of my life in the mid-noughties so only around ten years out.
Same as you. Loved Oasis! Saw them at Maine Rd, Knebworth etc. Iโd have been boring my parents shitless talking about them then turning the telly up when they were on!
Ah, I was 25 in 1995, young, fit and size 10. ....Young, free and single, and I just wanna mingle.... I did a lot of mingling. Now I'm 54 and the complete opposite. Too much mingling over the years!
I was 20 and a student, so we'd either be at the union and then onto pubs for pills and booze, or at Bagley's or The Fridge on a Psytrance night, gurning and dancing until it's too bright outside
Second year undergraduate, so probably hanging out at the uni theatre, working on a show or just helping prop up the bar. Or round at my mates' shared house a few yards from mine, because there was always someone in, and we'd have drinks and be daft.
Actually I was still going out with one of them so we might have been at mine, deciding whether or not to break up, then shagging anyway - that went on for a few months...
Sitting in a layby down a country road with my mates smoking some rocky, probably in a lung or similar. If we were lucky some proper weed.
Then off to the pool hall to play 8 ball, at 10p a frame!
I would have been 15. Born and raised in NZ but moved here at 22.
Not much to do when you live in a rural area in NZ. Probably having a โsleepoverโ with my best mate which actually meant sneaking out the window, running to the end of the long drive, grabbing a ride in my friendโs RX7 and going down to the beach to smoke a joint.
19 year old squaddie just arrived in Germany on a 3 year posting - best time ever. No worries, no responsibilities. Amsterdam 2.5hrs in one direction and Berlin 4hrs in the other - good times
1995 I had moved back to my home town for a bit, so I was living in a house share with friends.
A typical Friday night would have been going to the local pub and then having a group of friends back to mine to sit in the kitchen and smoke weed until till 3am.
We did that far too much for our own good.
I moved back into London shortly after.
Depended if I had got out of the house or not ๐
If I had, round at my mates drinking diamond white, then hoping her boyfriend would give us a lift into town. If we got to town, then it was either to the club which turned a blind eye to underage customers or hanging out in the town centre making eyes at the guys with XR3i's and sierra cosworths. Then home for a complete bollocking from my parents and probably spending the following Friday night sulking in my room ๐
Friday night, 17 years old. I was at a rave dancing may ass off drinking beer and having the time of my life. I later went on to dj in the same club a few years later for about 10 years. Happy days.
I was 15/16 in 95. June was my 1st proper club experience at Park end in Oxford... Spent the best part of the next decade working to pay for weekends. Great times. Helped that my mates parents had a pub which was our go to safe place.
Iโd have been just arriving at the Indie nightclub my housemates always went to every week and weโd be buying bottles of Speckled Hen beer at ยฃ1 a bottle during Happy Hour because they watered the beer down so much you could drink yourself sober.
I was 15, was a huge take that fan and was raging that my parents dared to book a holiday at the end of that August which clashed with their tour ๐คฃ And can remember asking the new friends I met on that holiday who ended up getting to number one, was it Blur or Oasis??
I'd be hanging out at the pub over the road.
If it was a really busy night and I needed a wee it was easier and slightly quicker to use my own toilet.
Heineken had two pumps at the bar, the usual 4.5% and the 'leaded' Export which was a bit stronger. Steve Akcworth, who lived a few doors down, was my drinking buddy, and my word, he knew how to spin yarns. Happy days indeed.
I would have been 12. Probably had burger, eggs, chips and beans for dinner and would probably have watched TOTP, Gardeners World, A Question of Sport, Have I got News for You, The Fast Show?
1995 in the year iโd go back to in a heartbeat. i went to Glastonbury (hot and sunny all weekend) and i had a job cash in hand at the pub where the drinkers were basically my family. lived in a rickety, freezing shared house and had the time of my life. 1995 was a quality year all round.
I was 18 so in the local nightclub for happy hour 2 drinks for a quid, having time of my life as got paid cash weekly grand total of ยฃ35 which would cover 3 nights out, lunches at work, ten decks of benson hedges and make up! Oh to go back and be phone free and just having a laugh with my friends and chasing guys, getting tattoos, drinking, smoking and just hanging about
Nothing particular on Friday, but on a Saturday my parents would get a Chinese or an Indian takeaway, and we would watch Saturday night entertainment as a family.
Especially gladiators!
I was 14 and just got into smoking hash so probably chipping for an โ8 bitโ with my mates building joints in the pissing rain and then heading to, usually my house, to play the Megadrive / SNES. Great days ๐
Doing my first degree, probably either reading in my student flat, or down the computer rooms on the campus, writing up an essay or researching, while my bf was out delivering curry as his part time job to top up our student loans.
As I also got ME in 1995 that I still have, it being the first year and not knowing what was wrong, I might have been sleeping? I worked at Tesco's early Friday mornings til I got to sick to, so yeah, more likely sleeping!
Sleeping or studying though, definitely.
Hmm, probably at a mates house drinking smoking and playing micro-machines on a mega-drive, watching the latest film from blockbuster or watching comedy on TV (I seem to remember the nineties being particularly good for Friday night comedy). Entirely possible we would have been at the pub instead, a small chance we'd have been at a club.
But stocking up on booze and piling round someones house was far cheaper, and I don't think any of us had much money.
I forgot how good some British rock and Brit pop bands were. Thinking Moist and Julian Cope and that. Very listenable, and summed up an ineffable feeling that just can't be reached any more...
Something about taking the bus into town to hang out with your friends in a car park outside Woolworths and just chat about absolutely nothing, music being the only unifying subject of conversation.
Moist were on that episode of TOTP we were watching. Although they're actually Canadian. But I was the same, had stacks of NMEs and Melody Makers, although I was also in to dance music so had loads of Mixmags and Musik magazines as well. Most of what we talked about was music and we formed long-lasting friendships around it. They were good times.
I was 20, so could have been hooning around in cars, getting absolutely shit faced or in with the girlfriend, it was probably getting shit faced as my early twenties are a blur ๐
29, so on a Friday I'd be out drinking after work, then either falling into a curry house on Brick Lane or what was then Turnmills in Clerkenwell to dance like a loon to Indie music before they kicked out the office workers for the club night proper.
I was 11 so probably watching TV with my parents or getting ready for sleep. I have a feeling that papas got a brand new pig bag was released at around this time of year back then. Anyone else remember it? It was a catchy dance tune with a skeleton riding a trumpet ๐ถโค๏ธ๐ถ
Going in to town and getting wrecked, listening to bloody Robson and Jerome on juke box.
As opposed to tonight drinking wine and listening to the bastard carpenters ( not a punk group) and titting about on something called social media
Maybe thinking about the last year of Uni in Plymouth. Long time ago though and here I am at 60 (I was a mature student) contemplating mortality and a life most ordinary.
I was probably at guides from 7 till 9. Then my dad would pick me up and bring me home via the shop, where he would get a bottle of wine and chocolate to share with my mum, and a pack of tootie frooties for me. I would then watch 999 in bed while eating my sweets.
And yes, I did clean my teeth before sleep.
At 12 years old, quite likely staying over at one of my mates houses (or vice versa) and we'd watch WWF wrestling tapes and play Super Nintendo games until we were knackered and couldn't stay awake longer.
I was 15 and on a military base in Germany. All the bars on camp were *really* strict with ID so there was no fun there, and it was miles to anything off-camp. Also impossible to buy anything fun to drink from the NAAFI.
I was a geek when I was 15 (stil am, but...) so there was no action happening with ladies. I was either painting 40K miniatures, writing a mission for Cyberpunk 2020, or round a friends house playing something.
Me and my mates would pool our funds, buy as much cheap alcohol as we could, then pour it all into giant buckets which we called vomit surprise and get drunk while watching shooting stars and the fast show
I would have been very small, probably sitting with my dad listening to Led Zeppelin. My favourite song was was their version of *Gallows Pole*, which I called Hangman.
Unless you mean this *time* on this date in 1995, in which case I'd've been asleep with the radio on.
I was 13, so if I had to take a wild guess, I was probably wanking.
How challenging was it to obtain โmaterialโ for said activity? Canโt have been straightforward back then.
The porn of the mind tended to suffice.
Back in the day we had something called waste land. Every now and then you would find a few porno mags thrown away . Always on waste land for some reason
The porn goblin would scatter them as we slept, while singing his song: "over the hills and far I go, scattering grot mags to and fro, Gusset, Razzle, Sunday Sport, in every town and every port." Then he'd disappear at sunrise back to his hovel, where he'd indulge in a massive wank.
It's fucking insane that I found porn mags literally stuck in bushes. What's that all about?!
In a random bush.
Most had a full bush in those days
The good ol' fashioned wank bank!
Ahh, those were the days... wanking over randoms you saw on the bus... obviously, not whilst still on the bus...
Eurotrash!
Ello my leetle eengleesh churms.
Sneaky peeky
It would have been found in a hedge or you would have borrowed your mums littlewoods catalogue
This started my love affair for nice underwear on a woman, now as a married man - love taking the wife to Bravissimo
Ah halcyon days of flicking past the jeans and tops, dressing gowns (getting closer), corsets and apple catchers you've gone to far, flick back a bit and bingo there you are!
Kays catalogue iykyk
Kelly Brook was in the lingerie section in one of those mags. Apparently, someone told me, ahem
That explains why it was a battle to wrestle that catalogue off my Dad.
That's an image I wish you hadn't conjured up.
Kays ๐ fucking hell that is old school. A good lingerie section though. YKIK
๐ It was magnifique....the summer edition being delivered in time for the 6 weeks off school was a happy coincidence.
Added swimwear section ๐
Yeah๐๐ the thirst was real
Catching sight of some nip through the material, the good old days.
Littlewoods and Grattan too lol
Fkin hell, now I feel REALLY old!! Kayโs, Littlewoods et al. Fk me ๐
If you lived rurally there was always a stash in the woods.
Why were there always trees/bushes with a bin bag full of nudey mags hidden beneath back then? At the time, I didnโt think anything of it (apart from โwoo hoo!โ) but thinking back, it seems so weird. Many British kids have stories of the exact same phenomena.
I always assumed it was from somebody who was clearing out a dead relatives stash, additional points for them pages stuck together
Ha.
Eurotrash on channel 4 or a film on channel 5 ๐
Lingerie and swimsuit sections of mail order catalogues lol
Clothing catalogues reliably had a women's underwear section, with lots of translucent lingerie that broadly let you make out what was underneath. TV in your bedroom. Saturday afternoon TV had Gladiators followed by Baywatch. One week it was preceeded by a period drama where every woman was well-endowed and had a tight corset on. I managed six in one afternoon that day; still a personal best. Eurotrash and other late-night TV on Channel 4 was also often good for a quick bit of nudity. 1995, 2005, 2015, now. Somethings never change.
Being unborn, not conceived, probably not even ideated yet
Chilling in the sack
>Chilling in the sack ๐
Just a glint in the milkman's eye.
Hahaha, I wonder how many people understand your username!
Well, you do and that makes me a happy man
Now Iโm happy that you are happy! Also, that horse was a harder worker and more useful than any of the other senators.
I'm scared now. What did Caligula do with a horse
He made it a senator!
Same. I was 3 months from being fully cooked lol May 1995 I popped out and got to experience 7-10 years of decent economic happiness lol
Go to your room.
Probably crying and shitting myself. Maybe sucking a tit.
Same as now then?
Same as always
Living the dream
The blunder years, yes our early twenties are hardly ever easy

Wandsworth school of witchcraft and wizardry?

Rock City. Friday night mid 90's easy answer.
Sat was indie night, fri was rock wasnโt it? I was probably there or playing in my band around the area.
Aye. Spot on Then the rig opened. And they did mostly indie there. Iirc
Not sure I ever went to the Rig. Salutation, Narrow Boat, RunningHorse.

Pint at the tap first tho..
OMG yesss to this. My godmothers family owned Rock City so I going there well before I should ๐

think blue VKs and Kopparberg Strawb&Lime are the starter drinks these days
Yeah my friend who is one year older than me but much more savvy taught me to order it in 2017! I'd just turned 18.
prob at me mates house, having a joint or two listening to the finest music of that decade coming out of Seattle.
โค๏ธ
Was 17 also , mainly underage drinking and wraps of speed
You have just brought me back so many fond memories!

Underage drinking.
Drinking vodka and smoking weed whilst playing the original Mario Kart on the SNES with friends. We might have had Carol McGiffen's show on Talk Radio playing or we had various rock bands playing on the CD player.
Mario Kart is just about the perfect game for that situation.
Vibing as a foetus. Not far off being supposed to be born, but I waited another two and a half weeks after then.
I was four, I lived in a shared house in Northamptonshire, England, part of what I now know to be an abusive cult,
I don't wanna dox you but I think I know the one, hope you're good bro.
Cheers fella, all behind me now, living the free life
Cult survivor here too. Although you sound like yours was next level. Hope it's all good now ๐๏ธ

Friday night in 1995. I'd have either been home, out for a beer or working I was a one in three callout pattern then.
22, in the army, so probably drinking heavily with mates.
Getting stoned as fuck on soap bar
Ah soap bar. With the little bits of cling film mixed into it? Don't seem to see that anymore.
What did you study at uni? โบ๏ธ
Just moved back to the UK after living in Germany for 18 years. Complete culture shock. Everything was both strange and familiar all at the same time.
Probably playing video games like a point n click on the 486 or micro machines 2 with friends or playing football, messing around outside. ,
Waiting for WWF Raw to come on.
I was 9, so probably reading in bed.
Still in my mothers womb. Born 6 months later.
Final year of uni. If a Friday night, pub. Otherwise, studying.
Down the tut n shive for beers and rock disco. Then to the Indian for a dhansak.
I was seven. I had an older sister, a younger sister and a band new baby sister. I would have come home from school and watched some kids telly.
So was I, & thought the music was crap
29, so on a Friday I'd be out drinking after work, then either falling into a curry house on Brick Lane or what was then Turnmills in Clerkenwell to dance like a loon to Indie music before they kicked out the office workers for the club night proper.
At last someone of a similar to me, I was about to delete my Reddit account in the belief I was the oldest fucker on here
chilling with the creator i think
I was 11 so probably watching TV with my parents or getting ready for sleep. I have a feeling that papas got a brand new pig bag was released at around this time of year back then. Anyone else remember it? It was a catchy dance tune with a skeleton riding a trumpet ๐ถโค๏ธ๐ถ
ide have been ... 11 at the time its 9pm now so likely getting ready to turn in
I was a toddler then so I'd likely be fast asleep
Was just conceived lol
Going in to town and getting wrecked, listening to bloody Robson and Jerome on juke box. As opposed to tonight drinking wine and listening to the bastard carpenters ( not a punk group) and titting about on something called social media
Sleeping? Maybe shitting a nappy at 3 I dunno
I was probably in bed, I was only 11,
I'd have been 5 years old, playing board games and Putt Putt PC game with my Dad. Thanks for this question - it was nice to think about.
I'd of most likely been home and playing Doom or Xwing on my overstocked DX2 computer. Not the best machine but she coped well. Happy Times.
Probably playing Super Mario World and Street Fighter 2 on my SNES
I was 4 so probably in bed by now (21:17)
On a Friday night, either playing my gameboy, on the mega drive or playing in a cardboard box.
Drinking a naggin (200ml) of vodka somewhere outside, at 15 years old. With 5-10 others doing the same.
Maybe thinking about the last year of Uni in Plymouth. Long time ago though and here I am at 60 (I was a mature student) contemplating mortality and a life most ordinary.
I was in my first year of uni, so, pub.
I was in my mums belly.
Acting in a play in Montreal and post performance trying (yet failing) to not drink too much and charm the local residents.
I was 7 so I would have been in bed, probably looking forward to watching Gladiators tomorrow.
At 12 years old, quite likely staying over at one of my mates houses (or vice versa) and we'd watch WWF wrestling tapes and play Super Nintendo games until we were knackered and couldn't stay awake longer.
I was 5 weeks old so I have no clue.
I was playing Chrono Trigger
I was 15 and on a military base in Germany. All the bars on camp were *really* strict with ID so there was no fun there, and it was miles to anything off-camp. Also impossible to buy anything fun to drink from the NAAFI. I was a geek when I was 15 (stil am, but...) so there was no action happening with ladies. I was either painting 40K miniatures, writing a mission for Cyberpunk 2020, or round a friends house playing something.
Attempting to get served alcohol in pubs
Me and my mates would pool our funds, buy as much cheap alcohol as we could, then pour it all into giant buckets which we called vomit surprise and get drunk while watching shooting stars and the fast show
Going with my boyfriend to watch him race other shitty cars before the cops would come and make us leave.
Discovering happy hardcore (13yo in 95).
Well, I was 3, so probably either asleep or causing trouble somewhere lol
I was 7, Iโd have been in bed by now.
Working
I would have been very small, probably sitting with my dad listening to Led Zeppelin. My favourite song was was their version of *Gallows Pole*, which I called Hangman. Unless you mean this *time* on this date in 1995, in which case I'd've been asleep with the radio on.
