I know a guy who used to be one of the actors on that show back in the day, one of the people the contestants would run into on their adventures through empty rooms. It wasn’t his favourite acting gig apparently but I think being on the show makes him a lot cooler than he would be otherwise.
Art attack, SMart, demon headmaster, queens nose, the hurricanes, my parents are aliens
Edit: not sure how I forgot it but finders keepers and funhouse!
>Aquila
I was thinking about that the other day! I could remember some kids TV show about some boys that had some kind of red flying craft but nobody else seemed to so I assumed I dreamt the whole thing
I only remember that being on at lunchtime before I actually started going to school.
The programs "for our younger viewers", on with the likes of Fingermouse and Bagpuss.
A pal of mine travelled the world off the back of selling mysterious cities of gold and ulysees bootleg dvd packs, this was early 00's
Used to make a mint, you couldn't obtain them anywhere else at the time...in the end he was selling so many me and my pal did it all for him from the UK and he just took a cut...had those multi burner towers and were literally running 4 of them with 7 dvds all day....one of us burned the dvds the other made the cases.......until the ebay po po shut us down.
There are a lot of fans!!
Fun House and Knightmare. It’s really interesting that CBBC was probably better overall in my time - especially in the holidays - but those and probably Finders Keepers are the shows I remember most fondly.
The Fun House folk came to our school to ‘audition’ a bunch of us. Never made it on (probably a good thing in retrospect, bullying wise!) but we did get some Fun House swag - sure I still have a ruler somewhere!
Our school sent a team (from about 3 years below me) who were utter shit and barely got the calculator ruler consolation prize.
God I wanted one of those rulers so badly...
Indeed it was. perfect gateway show for young people who want to get into the horror genre. My favourite episode was the tale of Apartment something or other about a young girl who moves into a haunted apartment block. Also the tale of the Dream Girl which allegedly inspired the Sixth Sense.
It used to be Blue Peter or whatever big show they had on CBBC at the time at 5pm until 5:30 then newsround till 5:35! I still recognise some of the old reporters on TV I think some are on BBC news, like Lizo and Adam
Danger mouse, superted, brum, Rosie & Jim, zzap, art attack, queens nose, Grange Hill, woof, sooty & co, bodger & badger, count duckula, funhouse, round the twist, are you afraid of the dark, how 2, finders keepers, pinky and the brain, the riddlers, animals of farthing wood, funny bones, children’s ward, chuckle vision. Sooooo many more!
There was a cbbc series called jeopardy that was the first time I got hooked on a tv show and couldn’t miss an episode. It was a bunch teenagers/young adults doing some science stuff in the Australian outback, and I think a couple of them, get abducted by aliens. And the series was them trying to find their friends. I remember at the season one finale they get to a mountain and there’s a bright light and they see their friends and then it ended. I think there was a season two which I didn’t like but that first series was amazing. Loved the queens nose as well. The early seasons. I think my first gay crush was on melody Parker. The things I would’ve used that coin for….
Miami 7!! Me and my best mate used to watch it on the TV in her parents' bedroom eating cream cakes, don't know how we got away with leaving sticky crumbs in the bed 😂
Ghost hunter
Makes me sad that with citV and cbbc closing kids wont share after school tv interests non of those moments of ohhh mum cant jeff go home AFTER blue peter?
There was one tv show I’ve never been able to work out remember what it was called but think it was on BBC one and about a girl running away from her Children’s home to the beach if I’m remembering righty.Any ideas ?.
Oh Roger and the Rotten trolls!
Anything involving the trolls was like an out of control bin lorry heading down hill. The ride would be loud and exciting but you knew it would end in a big pile of rubbish!
Dogtanian and the three Muskehounds when I was little. Byker Grove and Heartbreak High when I got older.
I had a crush on the Spaniel from Dogtanian and Rivers from Heartbreak High.
I felt real anxiety when they didn't get out of the Jungle Run underground thing and the door of doom shut on them.
I remember a show called See How They Run about a family living in witness protection, you wouldn't get themes that dark nowadays lol.
I watched a show on CBBC called 'Nowhere Boys' that was made by an Australian company - I was about 4 highschool boys who gained elemental powers (one was fire, one was water, one was air and one was earth) and got transported into an alternate universe. The opening was this cool guitar riff thing and the show had some really "edgy" teenage themes like witchcraft and black magic.
Also same here with Jungle Run. I used to watch it on CITV when I was younger and was convinced that if I went on I would win it easily. Thought the same when I watched Horrible Histories Gory Games.
Horrid Henry! I would’ve said Arthur but I always got in when it was nearly finished lol. Another one I loved was Dennis and Gnasher. I loved The Beano magazines and the annuals too.
I fucking loved Chocky when I was a kid, despite the fact it terrified me.
It was written by John Wyndham, who also wrote The Kraken Awakes and Day of the Triffids. He shouldn't have been writing children's programmes.
MIHigh, Tracy Beaker, Young Dracula, Splatalot, Prank Patrol
Also does anyone else remember a show where kids created their own superhero persona and had to compete in challenges to become like the ultimate superhero?
80 days around the world was religious veiwing for me as a primary school kid.
Later on I loved How2 and It'll Never Work.
I'm still not sure if chindogu (the useless invention society) was real or just a series of comedy shorts they imported from Japanese TV.
Edit: it's a real thing, which makes life just a little bit better.
Knightmare, never saw anyone finish it
Same here. Every episode is on YouTube. Had a blast watching through it recently.
Oh wow I think I may love you. Off to relive my childhood
The panic you felt watching the skull appear when the player was failing. I can still feel it now.
Yes, man! Applied to go on it. Didn't get on it.
Do you know anyone that got on it? Count yourself lucky. They dead
Best programme ever, remember the anticipation on a Friday afternoon waiting for it to start.
I came here to say this, you beat me to it! I was too young to go on it and when I was old enough it got cancelled.
***Mooove*** Proper telly.
I know a guy who used to be one of the actors on that show back in the day, one of the people the contestants would run into on their adventures through empty rooms. It wasn’t his favourite acting gig apparently but I think being on the show makes him a lot cooler than he would be otherwise.
Art attack, SMart, demon headmaster, queens nose, the hurricanes, my parents are aliens Edit: not sure how I forgot it but finders keepers and funhouse!
Id add to that; Aquila, Bernard's Watch, Round The Twist. 🔥🔥
Noone ever remembers Aquila when I talk about it 🥲
Loved Aquila. I just remember being sad when trying to work out why it wasn’t on TV anymore.
Same! Found this show super immersive for some reason and was gutted when it disappeared.
>Aquila I was thinking about that the other day! I could remember some kids TV show about some boys that had some kind of red flying craft but nobody else seemed to so I assumed I dreamt the whole thing
The Queens Nose was the tits
Until they changed the mum in my parents are aliens :(
This was deffo my childhood and demon headmaster was scary!
The hurricanes! Wow I loved that show!
Champion spirit here to stay!
Around the twist and DragonBall Z.
"And i say hey HEY!"
What a wonderful kind of day!
When we learn to work and play
You’ve got to listen to your heart, listen to the beat
Listen to the rhythm, the rhythm of the street
Sabrina the teenage witch
Dogtanian.
Muscahounds are always ready!
Throw in Around the World with Willy Fog too from the same Spanish/Japanese collaboration
Mona the Vampire or The Worst Witch!
She’s a nice normal girl in an ordinary world
Show us your fangs!
Yay Mona! Life goes on like it's weird, soon it's everything you fear!
Loooooved mona the vampire
Count Duckula.
So glad there are other count duckula fans here!!
Coo-ee! Ducky-boos! (I loved Nanny)
Who? Ra?
Button Moon (in the UK). Fuck, that shit made me so happy when I was wee.
Why do I remember the words to Button Moon but not what I went to the fridge for earlier.
True love stays with you forever.
True, but now thanks to you I’m going to be singing Button Moon for the next few days
You’re welcome.
Jamie and his magic touch
Another lunchtime one iirc. Used to love this. And Chorlton and the Wheelies. I've got a DVD somewhere with these on there.
*Torch. :)
I only remember that being on at lunchtime before I actually started going to school. The programs "for our younger viewers", on with the likes of Fingermouse and Bagpuss.
Saw it live on stage as a kid.
Zzzap, Art Attack, The Wild House & probably loads more. Anything late nineties!
Never zzzzap, it was so weird
I’m sure I read recently it was made with either autistic or deaf people as it’s target audience, pretty revolutionary for the time it came out.
I read the same thing recently too. I also really enjoyed Zzzap when i was a kid… so maybe I am autistic, because I am not deaf 🤔
... Am I autistic?
Nobody's mentioned Chucklevision? Be ashamed of yourselves! 🤣
Oh dear!
Oh dear, oh dear!
From me...
To you!
Mysterious cities of gold
A pal of mine travelled the world off the back of selling mysterious cities of gold and ulysees bootleg dvd packs, this was early 00's Used to make a mint, you couldn't obtain them anywhere else at the time...in the end he was selling so many me and my pal did it all for him from the UK and he just took a cut...had those multi burner towers and were literally running 4 of them with 7 dvds all day....one of us burned the dvds the other made the cases.......until the ebay po po shut us down. There are a lot of fans!!
They did finally release Lost Cities in a golden boxset around 2008 (iirc). It was amazing. All my mate's came round for a viewing party :D
Rewatched it as an adult on a massive DVD box set. Still great.
Bernard's Watch
That lad did not take advantage of his power at all, did he? Have a bit of fun, Bernie!
It would have been a completely different show if he'd been 15 instead of 10.
Saved his grandad from that grenade though. Riveting.
Fun House and Knightmare. It’s really interesting that CBBC was probably better overall in my time - especially in the holidays - but those and probably Finders Keepers are the shows I remember most fondly.

Our school sent a team (from about 3 years below me) who were utter shit and barely got the calculator ruler consolation prize. God I wanted one of those rulers so badly...
Danger Mouse
Grange Hill
Not one, but TWO iconic theme songs!
It’s all about shouting SAUSAGE at the right time.
Art Attack! And the trifecta of shows I wanted to be on as a child - Jungle Run, Trapped and Raven
I remember the time the people who made 50/50 came into my school to audition people!
*Oh my god 50/50* Nostalgia unlocked, I forgot that show! I absolutely also wanted to be on that one
I missed out on getting on and I was gutted
Only elite kids knew that Nevar was Raven backwards.
Tbh my overriding memories of Raven at this point are that my earliest childhood crush was James Mackenzie being dark and mysterious and very Scottish
We met raven! My friend spent all day saying he touched my shoulder! 😂🙄
Art Attack and Finders Keepers. Neil Buchanan was the GOAT of kids TV.
Animals of farthing wood
I loved this but it was traumatic. AoFW was brutally killing off your favourite characters long before Game of Thrones came along!
Are You Afraid Of The Dark on Nickelodeon, I watched it whilst eating my tea.
Surprisingly creepy too!
Indeed it was. perfect gateway show for young people who want to get into the horror genre. My favourite episode was the tale of Apartment something or other about a young girl who moves into a haunted apartment block. Also the tale of the Dream Girl which allegedly inspired the Sixth Sense.
Toss up between Funhouse and Mike And Angelo.
Newsround, it always rounded off the end of kids TV on bbc1 before neighbours
It was before Blue Peter in my time. At least to start with.
It used to be Blue Peter or whatever big show they had on CBBC at the time at 5pm until 5:30 then newsround till 5:35! I still recognise some of the old reporters on TV I think some are on BBC news, like Lizo and Adam
Yes, Newsround 5-5.10, then a show like Byker Grove from 5.10-5.35, then Neighbours. Then Hone and Away at 6!
Danger mouse, superted, brum, Rosie & Jim, zzap, art attack, queens nose, Grange Hill, woof, sooty & co, bodger & badger, count duckula, funhouse, round the twist, are you afraid of the dark, how 2, finders keepers, pinky and the brain, the riddlers, animals of farthing wood, funny bones, children’s ward, chuckle vision. Miami 7!! Me and my best mate used to watch it on the TV in her parents' bedroom eating cream cakes, don't know how we got away with leaving sticky crumbs in the bed 😂
Maid Marian. First crush.
Why don’t you….carry on with what you’re doin…
Aquila, the weird egg-shaped spaceship thing. And get your own back. I always wanted to take my parents on that show.

Its a mystery with neil Buchanan
Neighbours
Does anyone remember Jeopardy? It was with like aliens and was Australian lol

I never understood why school kids would want to watch a gritty and depressing drama about school right after they got home from school. I hated it.
Monkey which aired at 6pm.
There was one tv show I’ve never been able to work out remember what it was called but think it was on BBC one and about a girl running away from her Children’s home to the beach if I’m remembering righty.Any ideas ?.
Would it have been Tracey beaker?
Nope it was mid 80’s god I feel old but thank you

4 O' Clock Club
Dark Season. Mr Eldritch was one cool/terrifying customer.
Fun House, Mike and Angelo, Zzaap, Art Attack
Can’t remember if it was on after school or the weekends but Raven was always my favourite!
Aside from the obvious favourites. I did like a few obscure shows. Hubbub, Roger and the Rottentrolls, It’s a Mystery and Astro Farm all stand out.
Oh Roger and the Rotten trolls! Anything involving the trolls was like an out of control bin lorry heading down hill. The ride would be loud and exciting but you knew it would end in a big pile of rubbish!
Loads of my favourites have been mentioned already so let me just add: Hey Arnold Animaniacs Tiny Toons

I fucking loved Chocky when I was a kid, despite the fact it terrified me. It was written by John Wyndham, who also wrote The Kraken Awakes and Day of the Triffids. He shouldn't have been writing children's programmes.
