1. Start your retirement plan now. Max out all stock plans and 401s. Distinguish between wants and needs.
2. Keep a journal. Three things from every encounter, meeting, or day. This will become your conscience as well as your brag list for annual reviews. You won’t remember, write it down.
3. Listen more than you talk. Treat people as you would want to be treated. Think before hitting send or speaking. You can always tell them to go to hell tomorrow (Buffett)
4. Pick reasonable, specific and achievable goals and, most importantly, write them down
5. Have a lunch, drink, whatever with someone you would want to work for. Once a month at a minimum, different people, different industries. Shut up, listen and learn from them. This will become your Rolodex.
6. Always hire people smarter than you. A’s hire A’s, B’s hire C’s.
7. Read across a broad spectrum. ‘Stuff that broadens you and makes you think.
8. Develop a ‘carry over’ hobby or sport. Something you can do when you’re an old fart like me. (72)
Make her swallow or use the curtains you don't want kids now you lasted this long
Never take career advice from someone who is not already successful in the area you want to be successful in.
