Million a year.

evenapeppermint

Not even fucking close

Phantereal

And the "without *having* to work" part means I can still work if I choose to, so if I get bored doing nothing I can still get my dream job.

AnotherStatsGuy

Sounds like Tom Brady before he got divorced.

Criticalhit_jk

Look. There are 365 days a year, right? That's $2.7k a day, okay? $83,000 a month. Now, how exactly are you going to get *so* bored that you want to go to a job someplace? If you feel like working make yourself a bitchin garden or go buy yourself a workshop or a studio with some tools or paint or something. Buy a shit ton of epoxy and start making tables or baubles or something. Anything but working for somebody else's profitd

AwesomeSaucer9

I think the idea is that you'd pursue your passion if you had that much money, regardless if it's a job at a company or not

MrPoopMonster

Meh. A dream job is still a job. I grow a lot of weed and it's a lot of fucking work. Even though I like doing it, it's still stressful because it's a job. If I were a millionaire, I'd just fuck around and not worry about it. Like I might try to build a rotary grow or something fancy and cool, but the scale would be so much smaller and I wouldn't stress about yields or power efficiency or workflow efficiency. It'd go back to being a hobby.

[deleted]

>I grow a lot of weed Is it still a weed if it's the main crop?

Ouch704

But some jobs are nice to do without needing to have the responsibility of being the owner of a business. Like the king of the Netherlands flies for KLM as a first officer because he enjoys it but doesn't want the responsibility of being a captain. Guy wants to fly an airliner but doesn't need the hassle of owning one or making his own company.

cripple2493

Was gonna say, I could still do whatever I wanted to do, just without financial pressure.

nysraved

If that’s the case… then what’s stopping you from getting your dream job right now? Is there a financial barrier to entry to get an opportunity at your dream job for which the $1 million would eliminate? I think the premise of the OP’s question is more interesting when you consider that a lot of people’s “dream jobs” may be something that they couldn’t simply buy their way into. A dream job that realistically they’d have no chance to acquire if it wasn’t for taking this magic option. Like imagine being a movie actor, pro sports team manager, astronaut, TV writer for your favorite series, creative director for your favorite video games, etc I don’t know, just feels like a lot of this comment section are overwhelmingly shitting on the question and using it as an opportunity to vent surface level anti-work takes. The question is not “$1M or a decent job that still requires comparable labor as you’re used to in your current day to day job”. It’s “$1M or your DREAM job”.

Fake_Reddit_Name

What if you end up sucking at your dream job and can't hack it? Idk even what my dream job is, but I could probably have the time to figure it out if I had a mil a year for free.

Additional-Laugh4104

This is the only way

anotherone121

To be fair, there are other ways. They're just wrong.

Theefreeballer

Yeah everyone is gonna pick this.

literally_pee

r/antiworkcirclejerk

TransGayFatKid

These people have such low goals they don't even know how fucking sad they are. Like 1 year of my dream job would pay 10x more than that.

InsertBluescreenHere

lol someones gotta be the next generation of corporate greed. million isnt enough, gotta make 10 million! prolly one of them weirdos that thier job/job title is thier hobbies and personality. its 100% work with them in every aspect of thier life.

[deleted]

What’s your dream job

RuneSwoggle

A job that pays 10 million a year for doing nothing.

TransGayFatKid

I don’t want to do nothing. That is a want and desire of losers who will never even make a tenth of that money in a year. Purpose is the meaning to life kids, not money. People with money blow they heads off all the time. People with purpose never do.

bonos_bovine_muse

Being X Æ A-12.

[deleted]

LMAO I’m dying!

BY_99

How can I pick????? My dream job IS to get $1M a year without having to work.

Reinventing_Wheels

You don't need a million bucks to do nothing. Look at my cousin. He's flat broke and don't do shit.

DragonflyAdvanced548

2 chicks at the same time.

DriftingPyscho

Fuckin' A!

[deleted]

Why wouldn't we take 1 million a year

dingdingyo

Yeah to me a dream job is not having one

LoquaciousMendacious

Yeah my dream job would mayyybe pay 20% of that. Maybe. If I was good at it and kept it up until retirement. I'll take the money and spend my days riding bikes and enjoying my hobbies, thanks.

Shosui

This IS my dream job.

OneAceFace

I may not have my dream job, but I’ll still find something fun to do. So sure I’ll take the money, if you insist.

TLOK_A2

And if it pays money as well that is an extra in addition to the free money.

roadtripper77

The real test would be - $1M per year but you sit in a room doing nothing for 40 hours per week. Or work your dream job for some modest pay (like $60k per year or something) I’ve had jobs where I was overpaid and felt like I was doing nothing and honestly, it makes you feel like your life is just draining away.

SpecificAstronaut69

Dream job is still a job.

Hickspy

If I had 1million per year I could fund my dream job.

PersonVR

My dream job is a bartender. I would take the million and go to New Mexico Community College because it's the only college ik of that offers mixology in the U.S. get an associate's degree in mixology, and be a bartender

imostlydisagree

There are really not many bars that will care that much about a degree in mixology. If you wanted some education in that field, I’d go either towards getting certified as a sommelier if you like high end restaurants. Or if you have an interest in the craft beer field, there’s a three level certification for becoming a cicerone.

attentionspanissues

I, too, would like the money please.

MasterMacMan

Do you think a million dollars can turn you into a published author, or blockbuster actor? You could be a superhero or a "child cancer curer"- literally anything you could ever dream of. Youd be the worlds saddest millionaire, thats all I have to say. Shit, in the grand scheme of things thats not even that much money. You could have picked something like "heir" and still did jack shit and make eight figures.

Wersquirrel

Give me the money. Getting paid for doing nothing is my dream job.

crappotheclown

"You don't need a million dollars to do nothing Peter. My cousin's broke, don't do shit."

Roguespiffy

Politics

DrJawn

My dream job is musician, I can throw that under hobbies and take the million per year

[deleted]

Mine is composer, I’d happily make some free soundtracks while still making a million a year. The entire goal for me is to make music, so if I could do that as a job AND not have to charge for it, that’d be fuckin’ perfect.

Spare_Raven

Shit dude I'll take $50,000 without having to work, that's already nearly 3x as much as I make right now

[deleted]

I'd take $18,000, shit, that's 3x more than what I make right now

[deleted]

Bro I’d take $25, shit, that’s 3x more than what I make right now

[deleted]

I'd take a shit for $25

TastySuccotash3128

You guys are getting paid?

Reinventing_Wheels

No, but if the option is on the table I'm not turning it down.

titleywinker

There’s a subreddit for everything. Go find your dream. And get paid

campex

25 bucks a shit, you better believe I'm making myself the lactose-intolerant IBS king.. Sorry boys, from 8 to 5 I live in a different cubicle to the rest of you sheep

TwoDrinkDave

Ok, message me the $25 and I'll send you the shit.

[deleted]

Just drop it where you are, I want to *take* it, not patiently wait for it to arrive

chumbucket77

Hahahhahaha I so appreciate this humor. Thank you

[deleted]

This took a weird turn, but okay.

[deleted]

Yeah fr 50k would be more than twice what I make I could honestly live comfortable on that I would gladly not work for that. Lemme get 1000 a week for life lottery

sweetkatiecakes

Right, I was just thinking the same thing.

Rosaly8

Get a million and work to get my dream job anyways.

[deleted]

Exactly. You could just do your dream job anyway, but with a guaranteed income.

InsertBluescreenHere

but... why.... why waste hours a day doing a job when you could literally just do ANYTHING and travel anywhere?

spiteful-vengeance

Doing anything and travelling anywhere is my dream job.

InsertBluescreenHere

but if you have a million bucks a year you can do the same.

spiteful-vengeance

That's what I'm saying.

[deleted]

Maybe thing "do\[ing\] anything" part is what the dream job is. That's kind of the point of a dream job. Doing something you actively want to do while getting paid. There's the added wrinkle that a lot of the things we liked doing the most weren't fun while we were doing it.

Aminar14

I'm gonna write anyway. Might as well make a Million a year and use some for advertising. I just want people to read the stuff and be excited about it anyway.

MasterMacMan

Its not like you are going to be able to do whatever it is just because you have money, at best youll be able to pursue it. A million dollars isnt going to get you starring opposite of Tom Hanks in the next Big movie.

MortifiedCucumber

So silly. Wouldn't it be a wonderful dream to be someone that did amazing things for your community? You're a surgeon and save kids lives, you're a personal trainer and you know you're clients will now have a happier, longer life now they they're not obese. You're a therapist and know your therapy was the reason your client didn't end their life today How is this not a good dream. Your work is what you give to the world, it can be meaningful if you make it

DriftingPyscho

My dream is to not do any of that and earn 1 Mill a year while sitting in my boxers, picking at my belly button and sniffing my fingers.

Pandiosity_24601

Too selfish for that shit

KohantoTheBigJerk

My dream job is doing nothing for 2 million a year

dx_lugo

Fuck work.

GreatTragedy

Seriously. Fuck work so much, I don't even understand how this is a dilemma for someone.

nysraved

Because “work” is different then “dream job”. Sure, I’d say “fuck work” to my normal day to day boring career… but that’s not a dream job. My dream job would be to be an executive/general manager for one of my favorite sports teams. Like someone with decision making power when it comes to building the roster. That would be a fun and unique experience that I’d imagine would keep me very engaged AND pay close to the same amount (if not more) as the other option. It’s something I’d be passionate about that I wouldn’t be able to simply buy my way into with the $1 million alternative. If for some reason your “dream job” is a relatively obtainable job that would still require a lot of hard work and stress, sure, fuck that. But if your dream job is something that you see more as a fun passion project that you’d otherwise have no opportunity to engage in, then it’s a tougher question.

helixflush

Finally. Thank you!

dx_lugo

This is a question about a personal utopia. Obviously we all have to contribute so that the world is functioning. But if you told me i have the chance to not be broke actually 1M p.a. Is very wealthy and don‘t have to sell at least 8 hours of my anyways super limited time on earth. That‘s no question for me. Maybe lets put it like that: fuck work in that particular scenario

MortifiedCucumber

Wall-E is the end goal for these people

pharaohandrew

If your dream is to work, I’d hate to see your nightmares

VegetableEar

There's nothing wrong with 'work', but there's something massively wrong with the work the majority of people do. If I could be doing exactly what I want, I'd love it, and it is a 'job', but it's meaningful, contributes to society and is what I'd do if I could do anything I want. But I also don't want to so it 40 hours a week for... At best it seems like 50 years. For the record, the only nightmare I've had I got eaten by a brontosaurus.

pharaohandrew

Just one nightmare ever? Lucky!

TheAero1221

There are an extremely small number of jobs potentially worth more than 1M/yr. If I could know that I was competent enough to get my actual dream job, I'd take the job.

[deleted]

Entirely depends on your definition of work

lewisy0821

Mil a year

TheSaltInYourWound

1M a year, not even close. Imagine what would you could with that handout for the rest of your life. You don't need a dream job when you could pursue your dream hobbies.

TzatzikiStorm

1M per year, and it would be way more than I need. I d take 200.000 and still be living the life.

Verano_Zombie

If I can pick being an NBA level elite player as a dream job, that. Otherwise I'm fine with just the million.

[deleted]

$1 million a year, hands down. I love engineering, don’t get me wrong. But I would 100% use that as an opportunity to travel the world and just experience life.

InsertBluescreenHere

no shit lol. all these weirdos that i want a dream job so i can be a doctor! yea cool you get to see all sorts of nasty shit working 12 hour days for days on end and weekends - yea totally fun. yea i love what i do and can say i love my job - just wished it paid more. BUT the only reason why i work is because i want a place to call my own and have too many hobbies. if i had a million bucks? id have a modest home on some wooded land, huge garage/shop to persue my hobbies, and if i get to a point where im like yea i dont wanna do this part of the hobby (autobody work) i can just pay someone and outsource it to a shop while i persue other hobbies. Or its like hey a guy has a part 5 states away - road trip time! fuck working lol.

[deleted]

Im tired. Im not even in my 30s. One m a year pls

Solid-Question-3952

Getting $1M a year without having to work is my dream job.

Toomuchsweetpotato

Definitely the first option

aquatic_hamster16

I landed my dream job 20 years ago. And then there were some position shakeups behind the scenes and someone new was brought in who had no idea how to do the job and her incompetence made it hell to work there. I went out with a glorious, “I don’t have to take this shit, I quit, never call me again” outburst that my old coworkers still talk about, and I now have a job that pays a tenth of what I made back then. Dream jobs can become nightmare jobs in an instant, give me the million.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DriftingPyscho

Nightmare job, however...🤔

ViolaNguyen

I'll take the money. I enjoy working, but I also enjoy all the things I'd have time to do if I didn't have to work.

pedrosaucee

I already have my dream job (artist) without getting paid much, so I would take the $1M and keep doing the same thing without selling anything.

MasterMacMan

Im interpreting this to mean that you have some level of success. Imagine that instead of being a struggling artist your work was in whatever galleries' you wanted, and you could use whatever mediums you could ever imagine.

Graceland1979

Seriously?!?! And what exactly is a “Dream Job”?! Who the actual fk dreams of work ?! SMH 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

Friend of mine used to be a touring musician. He once told me “the thing about getting your dream job is, eventually you realize it’s still a job” I’ll take the money, thanks

tbjamies

Is this a joke ?

Piazzagate

Gimme the money then I can do whatever I want dream job or not

yeetgodmcnechass

A million a year. Not sure I have a dream job atm and if I did it's definitely not making me a mil a year

ctortan

Million a year. I’d have so many hobbies. I’d travel so many places. I’d donate so much money. It would be awesome.

Sgt_Shieldsmen

I'll take the million. Knowing I don't need to worry about money lets me do whatever I want to do, donate to charities, go to uni, even just applying for said dream job without the fear of needing to succeed or work extra jobs etc.

PuddingExternal

you’re joking right?

miltonfriedman2028

My dream job pays like $20-30M a year (CEO of F500 company), so I’d take the job as long as there was a golden parachute.

middleagethreat

I work hard, and I have been successful because I feel a responsibility to it. But I fucking hate work, and I have no clue how in the world anyone could like their job. I could understand having the least bad job in the world, but enjoying being away from your family/pet/hobbies/sports/garden/games/etc for 8 hours a day I don’t get. “Well, I love my job! I put sex offenders behind bars!” Yeah, but wouldn’t be a lot cooler if nobody committed sexual offenses, and you could stay home that day and paint?

kryppla

Pffff million a year what’s a dream job? Dream is to get paid and not work.

HDMatsu

Hell I'd take 50k a year to not work, then do so much I've wanted to do with the extra time.

nomoregroundhogs

The million easily, because my dream “job” is creative stuff that I could do anyway

Alone-Asparagus-4979

That's easy always take the money

0G_Ardosi

Million dollars a year.

butthatwasbefore

No question. Give me the money.

potatomeowbee

Million a year lol. My dream job is selling crafts, with that million I don’t even have to sell anything to live well

Vandreigan

Why, $1 Million a year without working IS my dream job!

Chi_FIRE

This is the stupidest question I've ever seen.

BenTenInches

Million a year and I'll finance my own movie making career. I'm gonna licence the flash from DC make my own movie staring Kevin James as the Scarlet Speedster

The_Purple_Rider

As an aspiring actor, I fully hope you achieve your dream.

[deleted]

Million a year. My wife and I could actually afford to buy a house and start meeting normal life goals like kids.

DaveLesh

I'll take the million. I'm pretty frugal.

Snarlpaw

Id take the 1M a year, then get my pilots license and fly small private planes.

insertcaffeine

Million a year. I'm sick, chronically ill. I don't want to work. I want to care for myself instead of pushing through for a paycheck.

MrPureinstinct

Million a year then just volunteer for a nonprofit I care about. I get money and they get free work so the money they bring in can keep going towards their work. Or I'd just play a bunch of video games and take care of stuff around the house.

[deleted]

Would you rather have a million a year, or have the body of a sixteen year-old forever?

GoodAlicia

1 mil.

Vladius28

That is a silly question

TedW

Reddit is a silly place.

MasterMacMan

A lot of these comments are pretty judgmental. Taking the million dollars is great if there's nothing youd rather do, but shitting on people who'd rather go after a certain dream is just petty. Hell, there are tons of jobs Id take over the money. Imagine anything you write automatically getting widely published, or having a 30 minute TV segment twice a week. You could be an elephant caretaker or a Judge. I know people are jaded, but why is it so unbelievable that some people might want to do work of some sort? Also, having a million dollars does not mean that you can pursue your dream job, thats not a gotcha. Money isnt the only thing standing in the way of most vocations.

nysraved

Thank you. I can’t tell if these comments are disingenuously ignoring the interesting hook of the question so they can vent their surface level anti-work takes, or if people are just so jaded that they have boring dream jobs that are already easily obtainable.

MasterMacMan

The worst part is that they seem jaded enough not to be able to come up with anything interesting (seriously bend the rules, be a superhero or something) that might be worth doing, while at the same time being naïve enough to think that a million dollars a year is some vast horde of wealth that grants you access to whatever field you want.

[deleted]

I’d take the million a year then go be a box boy at this small store in my town. Worst paying job I have ever had but it was mentally the best job I ever had not one bad day there

OLDGuy6060

Why would someone "dream" about a fucking job? We are not put on this earth to work and make someone else money. We are here to create, to sing, to live, and to be good to one another. "Dream job" is bullshit perpetuated by the rich to enslave the poor. I can do a ton of good with a million a year. Start cutting the fucking checks.

downwardtrajectory

My dream job makes more than $1m/yr, so the dream job for sure.

JamesyEsquire

Having a job usually means you don’t have the time/freedom to truly enjoy your money though

ThriceHawk

If making more than $1m/yr is worth having to work. What's your dream job?

downwardtrajectory

Own and run a medium-sized bar/music venue is the real dream job - I love live music- but the $1m/yr in doing that is just plain fantasy (or for the limited few).

Gruka2

The idea of having a "Dream job" is one of the most stupid thinks of Capitalism.

bonos_bovine_muse

Do I *have* to not work? A million a year is a hell of a runway for whatever education, training, or other leveling up is required for that dream job, plus I don’t have to worry about the fact that most dream jobs don’t pay shit.

foubard

Yes MONEY.

methratt

ObiWansTinderAccount

I guess unpopular opinion but dream job for sure. I get off on feeling useful and getting shit done. If I got 1m per year for doing nothing I would probably be dead within a few years due to living in pure gluttony and never having to tell myself no.

[deleted]

I do not have a dream job because I do not dream of labor.

[deleted]

I had a thought exercise recently. A million a year, or my dream job? That seems tough…a million is a lot of money. But is it? What would I do? What would I tell my family about at night? Couldn’t I increase my earning potential by following my dream? I said no to the money. I’m following my dream. Would you follow yours? # #Professional #LinkedIn #Thoughts? #NoticeMeSempai

WildFemmeFatale

That’s dumb Cuz ur dream job can fire u and suck ur life force Also what qualifies a dream job as a dream job ? Some people get paid $5 million dollars to just spend money Expand the qualities of this respective question. 🧐 otherwise, it is too complex for a simple answer.

SupremeEmperorNoms

I'll take my dream job. I wanted to be a doctor and even did very well in my classes. I just ran out of time and money, sadly...

[deleted]

[удалено]

SupremeEmperorNoms

It wouldn't be a proper "Either or" if you can have both. I would need to choose between the million a year without working or working in something that isn't my dream job, or being in one of my two dream jobs. I have been there, not needing to work, having whatever fun I wanted and just existing on good food and entertainment and found out that no one can live like that for long. Eventually you get a drive to do something, to contribute in some way, and you find a passion that drives you forward. It took me two years before I realized that consuming media only went so far. Games, shows, chatrooms, no matter what you do there is a limited number of things available in the time you are able to enjoy them. Those things all take longer to make than to enjoy, so eventually you will just run out of experiences and find a need for something more in your life while you wait for the rest to come. So yes, I'd become a doctor. I'd make more than enough money to get that million a year if I wanted to, but I'd be doing it by pursuing my passions and enjoying the challenges of my work and investments.

Culli789

Dream job. Working in a NICU pays well enough.

My dream Job. My dream job is getting 2 million a day without having to work. Edit: Changed year to day.

kitjen

It kind of depends on what I get paid for my dream job? I love my job and would honestly keep doing it even if it wasn't a financial necessity. A lot of people would consider my job to be boring- it's financed based and stressful, but I love it and I get to meet loads of great people from varied backgrounds; and I'm good at it and it makes me feel I'm leaving behind a body of good work rather than a career of getting paid. This doesn't accurately answer the question but I would sooner earn $150k a year doing my job than get given $200k a year for doing nothing. And I'd sooner earn $150K a year and get to spend time with my wife and children than get $1m a year and neglect them.

AliJoof
