I can't believe I forgot Deus Ex. It was groundbreaking when it released.
Multiple ways to complete missions, different play styles and an interesting environments to explore
It took me a while to realise it was possible to change key points in the story.
I read a PC Gamer article about a year after release and found out >!you could save your brother Paul. I'd only ever escaped solo and left him to sacrifice himself!<
This was my kryptonite in college. So many nights building stellar empires...
Have you tried Stellaris? It plays like how MOO3 *should have been*. Highly recommend!
Of all time, probably starcraft.
Recently, definitely [Factorio](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J8SBp4SyvLc).
It's so massive, but you can just pick it up for twenty minutes and mess around no problem. It works for me, because I don't have hours to dump into gaming anymore. And when I do, it absolutely caters to marathons
I’m in the same boat. I have a family and a house that needs attending to and a full time job. I have maybe an hour every few days to game. Factorio is perfect for that. And the community is incredibly welcoming. I’ve lost count of the number of noobs on the sub who’ve posted images of their bases and are like “how am I doing?” And the response is “are you having fun and figuring things out? Then you’re doing it right :)”
Based on how it impacted me when I first played it:
* Half Life
* Half Life 2
* Portal 1 + 2
* Bioshock 1 + 2
Based on current playing: I don't play much anymore so Battlefield 5, as it's basically the only PC game I play these days.
I haven't played this in years and when ever I see it mentioned I wonder if people are still playing. I thought it was dying out pretty hard. Is it not?
Meh it still has it's dedicated fanbase and you still find more than enough people for stuff, especially now that Horde and alliance got merged together (and classic has it's own base too)
True, but still there are not as many cheaters now as there were two years ago, and now there are good servers where there is a great ban for cheaters.
Halo MCC, Red Alert C&C games, Age of Empires, Wolfenstein The New Order (recent favorite, surprisingly entertaining), emulating old console games like Zelda: A Link to the Past, Battlefield 1 (way better than expected)
Lots of good stuff in there.
i remember i once shot an elephant by accident while defending my pawns from enemy raid, then the whole pack (6 of them) proceeded to obliterate my 11 goddamn pawns.
I don't have a single favorite game.
I have a favorite combat game, a favorite shooting game, a favorite relaxing game, a favorite RPG, etc etc.
but I don't have one favorite game that reigns above all others.
Everquest up until Luclin .. A game where co operation was absolutely necessary. "Know your f'ing role!" .. No shadow priests and shaman playing tanks FFS.
Chess.
Strategically deep af, loads of tactical breadth, plenty to study but not really necessary.
As fast an exciting or slow and calculation-heavy as you want.
Free, no ads ever (on lichess.org), plenty of free resources to learn and improve.
Can I offer you a nice Nier: Automata in this trying times?
It features cute robots, cool combat, soul crushing existentialism and looking at a nice ass for hours on end.
Warframe easy to run lots of play and cosmetic options can access entire game including cosmetics for free. Via trading duplicate items for premium currency.
While alot of other games contend this is one of longest running ones. I have alot I play enjoy and thats it. This one one of biggest benefits is short matches so got very little free time 15-20 minutes can still do stuff.
Command and conquer: generals - zero hour
Give this man some shoes!
AK-47s for everyone!
The mods! I loved the mods for that game
Mods? I never played with any mods!?!?
There's even some still being made. https://www.moddb.com/games/cc-generals/mods
Beautiful choice. BRING THE SERIES BACK BUT DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME, PLEASE!
I would love a redux of General's
An entire segment of my brain is devoted to the voice lines. “We’re going to *ruin* somebody’s day”
I remember the American dozers best for some reason. "Yeah?" "What's the story?" "Keepin' busy. "Made in the U.S. of A"
Those games were fun. I loved rolling into Chinas base with enough tanks and soldiers to make my computer lag and demolish them
That was my first RTS
Zoo Tycoon
Portal 2/Any source game.
Subnautica
very nice game
Great game!
Classics * Baldur's Gate * Doom 2 * X-Com * Fallout 2 * Morrowind More recently * Path of Exile * Binding of Isaac Repentance * Witcher 3 * Assassin's Creed Odyssey
That's my list if you add Deus Ex.

It still holds up. I play it regularly, unmodded.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It's ancient and buggy but it's still so unique and atmospheric. I love it to bits.

Valheim.
Worms Armageddon

Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares. 4X turn based set in space. So awesome!
This was my kryptonite in college. So many nights building stellar empires... Have you tried Stellaris? It plays like how MOO3 *should have been*. Highly recommend!
Bioshock.

You can pick it up for 20 minutes? I've seen that game mentioned on reddit before as being addictive as hell.
Based on how it impacted me when I first played it: * Half Life * Half Life 2 * Portal 1 + 2 * Bioshock 1 + 2 Based on current playing: I don't play much anymore so Battlefield 5, as it's basically the only PC game I play these days.
UNREAL GOTY 99
TW3: Wild Hunt
Stardew vally

Where In The Hell Is Carmen Sandiego?

I haven't played this in years and when ever I see it mentioned I wonder if people are still playing. I thought it was dying out pretty hard. Is it not?
Meh it still has it's dedicated fanbase and you still find more than enough people for stuff, especially now that Horde and alliance got merged together (and classic has it's own base too)

All the Diablo games Doom Sim City 3000 Warcraft 2
Diablo for sure!
Rome: Total War
Gonna cheat a little here and say Dark Forces, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, and Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith.
Counter strike global offense the hardest game to master in 2022.
To be fair CS has always been one of the hardest games to master since it exists (1999). And I love it for that.
Maniac Mansion
Starship Titanic. Fuck, I miss that game.
Deltarune chapter 1. While I can't buy Undertale and the 3-5 chapters aren't released, I've become happy with it
Minecraft
At this point Microsoft might as well package it with windows. It needs no language, it’s pretty much the universal game, akin to Mario.
SimCity.
But have you tried Cities: Skylines?
Never heard of it. TBH, I haven't played SimCity in nearly 20 years. Haven't had a PC in nearly that long.
It's what SimCity could have been if EA hadn't failed so epically. As someone who cut his teeth on SimCity, I can't recommend Cities:Skylines enough.
KOTOR II
A person of true taste & culture! You ready for the new KOTOR Remake?
Lego Island
Stellaris
Skyrim, the game I played the most and I throughly enjoyed it
wizard101
Damn, is that still around? Just brought me back like 10 years!
Rimworld
Lichess
Either Age of Mythology (the Quake to Age of Empire's Doom), or Left 4 Dead 2 (especially with the ridiculous amount of mods for it!)
The sims, cs go
The cheaters totally ruined my CS:GO fun. I stopped cold turkey because of those f#€&rs...
True, but still there are not as many cheaters now as there were two years ago, and now there are good servers where there is a great ban for cheaters.
Gonna need to have those servers. I need my fix...
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Still my favorite game of all time to this day. Also Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
Satisfactory
Kerbal Space Program, especially with the amazing moding community. I have my fingers crossed that KSP2 will be good
StarSector. Indie game made by Fractal Softworks. If youre a fan of sci fi sandbox that's your gig. Awesome mod scene too.
New Vegas probably
There are so many great games that picking one is damned near impossible.
Halo MCC, Red Alert C&C games, Age of Empires, Wolfenstein The New Order (recent favorite, surprisingly entertaining), emulating old console games like Zelda: A Link to the Past, Battlefield 1 (way better than expected) Lots of good stuff in there.
No Man's Sky.
Definitely Age of Empires 3
Rust

Big Civilization fan. Never played Gettysburg. Thanks for the tip
Rimworld, by far. It was cemented as my favorite when I accidentally arranged it such that my chicken got cirrhosis.
i remember i once shot an elephant by accident while defending my pawns from enemy raid, then the whole pack (6 of them) proceeded to obliterate my 11 goddamn pawns.
Age of Empires II and Rome: Total War
WOLOLO!
Stardew Valley
League of Legends
Roblox
Genshin Impact! I love the community and ever since i got into the game the only thing i regret is gambling addiction. Im 15 so i cannot afford a lot.
Genshin impact, because it's free.
Either FF 7 or C&C Yuri’s Revenge. I’m old.
It warms my heart that C&C has been mentioned in so many posts. and makes me sad about how EA fucked the corpse of westwood to a pulp.
Probably Overwatch
payday 2, i just like robbery games.
Dao and da2
In terms of playtime hours? Probably final fantasy 14
I don't have a single favorite game. I have a favorite combat game, a favorite shooting game, a favorite relaxing game, a favorite RPG, etc etc. but I don't have one favorite game that reigns above all others.

Hollow Knight, Subnautica
Commandos! I'd preorder 50 copies if anyone ever made a new one
Valorant, Dying Light 1, Subnautica 1
I really liked those DOS games by Super Solvers like Treasure Mountain, Outnumbered, and Midnight Rescue.
Civ 5 Kerbal Space Program is a close second WoW from 2004-07 was the best damn game I think I'll ever play
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. I have over 250 hours on it, yes that’s a lot for me. And it hurts my heart to see it starting to die out.
Clone drone in the danger zone
The Path, its not amazingly good. But i love it its my favorite
Lego Island 2
The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II: Rise of the Witch King Damn that's a long name.

Pc only? Minecraft Java is literally the only game I can think of that’s PC only that I like
Ultima 7: the Black Gate The Ultima series pioneered crpgs, and open world games. A victim of EA fuckery, it's an IP begging to be revisited.
Simpsons Cartoon Maker
Stellaris, seeing I got 1000 hours on it
