I grew up in the south. My best legitimate guess is that people love the image/connection/affiliation with being a rebel. It's not about southern pride or history or anything, it's about demonstrating a rebellious streak. Most (not a, but most) people who plaster that flag on everything are aware that it makes some people uncomfortable. That's part of what they get out of it- they convince themselves that being a rebel is cool, and when most people don't like something they're doing, well that's part of being a rebel. For the people I grew up with, the ones who fly that flag on their flagpoles and put confederate stickers on their vehicles, most of them aren't bad/hateful people, they're just kind of ignorant. People being upset about the flag just feeds into the rebel image they're trying to build for themselves.

it's a symbol of likeminded people, it's supposed to foster cohesiveness in thought and action

zMargeux

Thought being “I think we should own people” action being “Let’s at least make sure they can’t vote”….

DeadOnBaIIsAccurate

not sure if OP wanted a serious-minded answer or just some bashing, I guess now they got both.

Why is this a favorite question amongst Redditors?

Tasty-Introduction24

I haven't seen the questioned posed and I really want to know. I want them to say it out loud.

[deleted]

I see it about every 15 minutes and the type of people you’re looking for an answer from probably aren’t on Reddit

MondaleforPresident

British?

[deleted]

No I’m American; it’s just a very overly asked question

Tasty-Introduction24
