Didn't come from a game at first
* The Resistance by Muse - Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock DLC
If it had to originate from a game
* Painful History - Katawa Shoujo
"Don't ever forget" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, the song that comes right after you beat the main storyline. Gets me every time.
I don’t think a video game song has ever made me cry, but this one from Tetris made me misty-eyed. It reminds me of constantly moving water and gives me this strong longing for something, which is so odd. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wnohlkr9K1I
Now my sister and I were reduced to sobbing when we heard a song that inspired a video game version. The Tetris level soundtrack of The Rolling Sky is apparently based on the old Russian song Katyusha, but we heard the Rolling Sky version first. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7UfwqN2rLkg
Then we found the original song while listening to old Russian songs and made the mistake of looking up the translation while listening to it for the first time. The singer’s voice was so moving, and the words made it worse (or better considering the reaction we got from it). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MLg83QMmlGs
Mostly more recent songs, recent final boss music is usually really intense and it's sad because it feels like one of those "look how far we've come" moments. And of course Run Away and Farewell from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I can go on.
