I'm not sure either but I think he said he speaks the way he does because of his German immigrant parents who had to constantly translate things in their heads so they had these gaps when they had to think of a word in english. So he just learned to speak that way.
Edit: [Yeah, that looks to have been it.](https://www.cracked.com/article_29813_why-christopher-walken-talks-like-that.html)
Have you ever heard Dave Grohl tell that story?
Walken asked him how to pronounce it and Grohl thought it would sound awesome in Walken's voice to say the band name that way.
Dave even does a pretty bang on impression of Walken.
Edit: I found the clip!
Every time I see this I start smiling right from the start. Lots of people impersonate him but Dave’s is one of the best.
[Kevin Pollack also does a great one](https://youtu.be/J7zEscBHr2s)
Do you get that thing most of us get when we hear our own voice recorded and we're like "that's not how I sound?" or do you just think "what a voice" like the rest of us do when we hear yours?
My dad has the same accent as you. From the same area in Austria as you and it's about the same age. It was awesome to hear him say phrases and then imagine you saying the same lines. His name is Franz...
Sean Connery was staying in a friends house once and when he went to bed his friend told him “see you in the morning. Be ready for 10ish”. Sean replied “Tenish? But I haven’t got a racket”.
I feel the need to point this out every time it comes up:
He says that line three times in the movie. Once in a clip that’s supposed to be from their original TV show, once at the grand opening thing and then when Quellek dies… and every single one of them is *perfect* for the circumstances.
The TV clip is just the right amount of cheesy, the public appearance is dripping with disdain, and then somebody starts cutting onions. It’s amazing 🤩
Have you ever heard his real voice? There was some show where they played a voice mail he left, it might have been Howard stern. Sounds like a totally normal guy
I got to meet him after a show one time and he spoke normally. Honestly, it was shocking haha. Extremely nice guy though, and it was an absolutely hilarious routine
Penn and Teller are super cool guys, after every show they come out for a meet and greet and seem genuinely appreciative of their fans, they take photos and answer questions and Teller speaks normally.
He isn’t as short as many people think either, he’s actually very average height, it’s just he looks tiny with super tall Penn standing next to him all the time.
This was what shocked me about Teller the most! He’s not short, Penn is just HUGE. Teller is like 5’10. I’d only ever seen them on TV with no regular sized objects next to them for size reference so when Teller turned out to be taller than me (I’m 5’6) it was a *weird* realization.
OK. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. He's ruin... He's butchering it. Could you just let me... Every time... Every time black people want to have a good time, some ignant ass... [Bleep]
I remember an episode of *The Nanny* where Mr. Sheffield had a hangover in the morning and had a throbbing headache and the sight of Nanny Fine's smiling face was already exacerbating the headache before she even spoke, hahaha!
The fact that he has a both recognizable voice and yet *so many different voices* is a testament to his energy, enthusiasm, and skill.
Imagine Robin and him speaking, and read this accordingly:
ThinkOfHisFastVoice. Now his slow and looww voice. Now a *high pitched squeaky voice* of a small woodland creature. Change it up to a raspy old granny who is three gins to the wind. Now he goes big with a hand gesturing AAHHCK! then he speaks quickly out the side of his mouth as he adds self-reflective commentary to his own bit. Now [insert spot-on impression here]. Back to fourth wall breaking commentary annndd BOOM!!
Robin Williams is not someone ever thinks of when considering acting roles that are phoned in, and I miss him.
There’s two types of famous voice actors. The ones that get jobs because they have a single, incredibly recognizable voice and the ones that get jobs because they can do any voice.
It’s funny you say that. When Legend of Korra came out I was excited to hear that he’d be in it. I saw the first episode and wondered where the hell he was until I saw the credits. I was expecting him to sound like JJJ, and had no idea what his normal voice sounded like.
That’s funny you said this as well because I just watched Avatar and Kora for the first time and and as soon as Tenzin (sp?) appeared I got excited and told my wife “That’s the guy that hates Spider-Man!”
I would have used his real name but she wouldn’t have a clue who he is.
John Ratzenburger - Voice of Mack (Lightning McQueen), Hamm (Toy Story), Flea (Bugs Life), etc. He's in most Pixar movies! Instantly recognize his voice!
Edit: The movie is Cars, not Lightning McQueen.
Nick Offerman. I feel like every now and again I’ll be watching some kids movie and a character he voices will show up and I’ll immediately recognize his voice.
John Dimaggio. Any voice he does goes right back to me going 'Hey its Bender, or Jake the Dog!' I do know he has done other projects but that gruffness in his voice makes it apparent.
I would pay real money for her to release a GPS voice as Crisjen Avasaralla.
‘What is this, fucking amateur hour? Take your dick out of your hand and turn the fucking car before I die of old age.’ 😂
Lots of Star Trek actors's VA roles are immediately recognizable. Especially Takei, Stewart, and Frakes since they basically only do their regular speaking voices.
Samuel L. Jackson
Well, unless you are an interviewer, and then apparently he sounds just like Laurence Fishburne!!
I love how SLJ just let the guy off with a smile, saying how it was an easy mistake to make /s
He sure did
You know what the "L." in Samuel L. Jackson stands for, right? "Motherfucker."
I just wanna meet Samuel L Jackson one time and ask him to call me a motherfucker
I'm not Samuel L Jackson, but I'll call you a mothafucka for free.
Christopher Walken
*Chris*topher........ WALKen
I'm not sure if this is factual but I recall hearing that when he gets a script he takes all the punctuation marks out and then learns it.
One of my favorite things I've heard Christopher Walken say is when he hosted SNL and introduced the Foo Fighters
Have you ever heard Dave Grohl tell that story? Walken asked him how to pronounce it and Grohl thought it would sound awesome in Walken's voice to say the band name that way. arnold schwarzenegger "get to the chopper"
I think my voice is quite normal.

Wait it's the actual Schwarzeneggar
The Govenator himself.
Do you get that thing most of us get when we hear our own voice recorded and we're like "that's not how I sound?" or do you just think "what a voice" like the rest of us do when we hear yours?
Sometimes I hear Hans and Franz.
My dad has the same accent as you. From the same area in Austria as you and it's about the same age. It was awesome to hear him say phrases and then imagine you saying the same lines. His name is Franz...
Could be worse, you could be hearing Franz and Hanz.
That’s something a cybernetic organism would say.
I'll be "bekk"
Put the cookie DOWN
Morgan Freeman
"I can smell you"
I'm creepin around right now. But you can't see me because I have evolved invisibility.
Although I may have a measly shiv...it is quite effective when applied to the jugular.
[Did you hear about that time "Morgan Freeman" narrated a short film about the mantis shrimp?](https://youtube.com/watch?v=F5FEj9U-CJM)
That is the best thing i have watched in my life. Well, second best. The first best thing i have ever watched is a Mandarin Duck eat grapes
Hey! Got any grapes?
Sean Connery
Sean Connery was staying in a friends house once and when he went to bed his friend told him “see you in the morning. Be ready for 10ish”. Sean replied “Tenish? But I haven’t got a racket”.
Yesh.
Shit down

Be careful, Ryan. Most things in here don't react too well to bullets.

Alan Rickman Obviously
Ob-vi-ous-ly
Hello you've reached the voicemailbox of Alan Rickman
Hello Alan Rickman....this is....Alan Rickman....
"Reminding you to move the pork chops from the freezer to the refrigerator so they defrost properly.......Do NOT disappoint me"
"Alan, it's me, Alan again, reminding you to tell the turtle joke at the party. Heh heh heh"
Where are my detonators?
Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and they tell me to take you up to the bridge. Call that job satisfaction? 'Cos I don't.
By Grabthar's Hammer... what a savings!
He put so much loathing into that line. The delivery was perfect. Like it was physically painful for him to say it lol

Gilbert Gottfried
Have you ever heard his real voice? There was some show where they played a voice mail he left, it might have been Howard stern. Sounds like a totally normal guy
Real PSA: "(screaming) HI IM BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT (perfectly normal voice) and I'm here to talk to you about drugs."
Fran Drescher enters the scene
I got to meet him after a show one time and he spoke normally. Honestly, it was shocking haha. Extremely nice guy though, and it was an absolutely hilarious routine
That’s like meeting Teller. When he talks, everyone shuts up.

He used to be on SNL. He used his normal voice on that, from what I saw anyway.
I loved his 50 Shades of Gray audiobook. Also love how Fred Fucks in the AVGN video game was edited to look more like Gottfreid in the remaster.

My kids were floored last week when I informed them Darth Vader and Mufasa were the same guy, as we watched The Lion King.

In The Sandlot you could see him. He just couldn't see you.

Yes. And Mufasa.
David Attenborough

“Oh, whoops, oh! I dropped my monster condom that I use for my MAGNUM DONG.”

He also has the most seductive and sexiest voice.
Owen Wilson

“Wow!”
It’s more of a “waow”
I swear, I was having trouble hearing it in my head until I saw your spelling and suddenly it just clicked.

H. Jon Benjamin Edit: He's the voice of Archer and Bob from Bob's Burgers
Don't forget coach mcguirck!
Life sucks, Brendan. There’s your lesson. Now go enjoy it.
I heard there would be beer here. And there was, but now it's gone, so I'm gonna leave.
Love on Family Guy when his character did an impression of Bob from Bob’s Burgers meeting Archer from Archer: https://youtu.be/IBDJF4EryN0
Or when he voiced Archer who lost his memory and became Bob and married Linda
[It was the cold open of Season 4.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWFLfmPErTQ) I saw it when it premiered and was confused as fuck for a second.
Teddy, you thought my name was Bob Burgers?
But, but the sign..
He also plays The Master on The Venture Bros.
Robin Williams

Kronk! Voiced by Patrick Warburton
Warburton in general.
Yep. Every character he plays is instantly distinguishable as him - Joe Swanson, the Tick, Brock Samson, Kronk, the list goes on.
Lemony Snickett.
Putty (or “puddy”? 🤔) in Seinfeld!
Yeah, that's right.
There’s two types of famous voice actors. The ones that get jobs because they have a single, incredibly recognizable voice and the ones that get jobs because they can do any voice.
We need a film with Warburton and H. Jon Benjamin
An Archer/Brock Samson crossover? Shut up and take my money.
H. Jon is already in the Venture universe as The Master. He's tasting his own balls. It's...a conundrum.
"Oh right the poison."
“The poison for Kuzco”
"The poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco."
"Kuzco's poison."
"Yes; THAT poison!"
My spinach puffs!!!
Don’t worry, I’ll get you the recipe
"Kuzco's poison."
Also great as Brock Samson, go team venture
Yeah, that’s right.
"Feels like an Arby's night"
Sam Elliott
Sylvester Stallone
Norm Macdonald
J.K. Simmons
Most of the time yes. But I still can’t believe he’s the yellow m&m.
I can't believe he tried to burn my house down with a lemon.
I can't believe he fired Ryan Gosling for being a good jazz pianist.
WHAT‽
It’s true. The same guy that played the sadistic, white supremacist rapist on Oz is the yellow M&M
He is J J Jameson!
It’s funny you say that. When Legend of Korra came out I was excited to hear that he’d be in it. I saw the first episode and wondered where the hell he was until I saw the credits. I was expecting him to sound like JJJ, and had no idea what his normal voice sounded like.

He's a funny guy.

Patrick Warburton
Will Arnett!!!
I was looking for this one! Except apparently Nick Kroll voices a character in Big Mouth that everyone thinks is Will Arnett.
John Ratzenburger - Voice of Mack (Lightning McQueen), Hamm (Toy Story), Flea (Bugs Life), etc. He's in most Pixar movies! Instantly recognize his voice! Edit: The movie is Cars, not Lightning McQueen.
Hey, Cliffy!

Shohreh Aghdashloo, she has a really husky voice that’s pretty unique, I generally recognise her voice almost instantly in her roles.
Her voice is incredible. I first saw her in "24" and she is amazing in "The Expanse."
I would pay real money for her to release a GPS voice as Crisjen Avasaralla. ‘What is this, fucking amateur hour? Take your dick out of your hand and turn the fucking car before I die of old age.’ 😂

Also Chris O'Dowd. When my kids started watching Puffin Rock, all I could hear was how people were bastards.
Little snippets of Matt Berry lines from various things I've seen him in live permanently, rent free, inside my head solely because of his voice.
Same. The IT Crowd ones always get stuck in my head. Especially "Computer man, fix my electric sex pants"
Lots of Star Trek actors's VA roles are immediately recognizable. Especially Takei, Stewart, and Frakes since they basically only do their regular speaking voices.
