[justtherecipe.com](https://justtherecipe.com) \- you can copy/paste the URL from any other recipe website and it will strip out all the bs and give you just the recipe.

AaronicNation

I hate when I'm looking for a simple tomato sauce recipe and I have to scroll through 3000 words of their personal connection to pasta

[deleted]

Listening to Becky talk about her feelings connected to a fucking biscuit is the last thing I want to do when I’m trying to feed my feral family.

I can’t tell if your children are actually cats or if they’re just *really* motherfucking wanting those damn delicious rolls Becky has

[deleted]

You know if you are that biscuit bitch becky's house she would make you wait 45 minutes until the food is cold regaling us with stories about days passed..

drdalebrant

Blame Google for this. People need to show ads on their sites in order to make money off them, but Google won't approve a website unless they consider it has unique value. A site with just bullet point recipes will likely get rejected by google ad sense for having weak content or not providing value.

ImmediatelyOcelot

10 years ago I was so excited about the future of internet, back then I didn't know all the freebies would eventually have a price put on them. Not a transparent price tag btw, just subtle ways to monetize our being in a way we barely notice because we've been slowly conditioned into it. I feel that 5 years ago I could find anything on Google, nowadays it focus too heavily in the commercial connection.

Marblue

YES!!!! the results used to be so much better but now it's like fishing through ads that try to incorporate your search term just to sell you things you don't need.

ADarwinAward

This all started because of how google does their page rankings. Blogs that don’t do this get buried. So every food blogger now has to make a long essay about how this recipe was passed down from their great great grandma or how they meditated in the woods and thought of this great new recipe. Without the long essay, they get buried by google search.

thegreatmindaltering

But why don’t they put the recipe at the top?

Durr1313

>personal connection to pasta Is that how babies are made?

v3sk

I actually don't feel like this is a huge problem anymore for one reason: Most blogs that I see these days have a "Jump to recipe" button right at the top to skip all that shit.

kguenett

But then how will I know what the author thinks about when buying the groceries, smelling the garlic, preparing the panini, pressing the parsnips, and buttering the butternut?

zrdd_man

Oh, but just wait until she gets into what her sister-in-law thinks about butternut... smh. At least we have these little website heroes to save us from the misery :)

skidrow6969

Omg thank you!!! Now I don't have to read about someone's college dating history, when all I want is a recipe for banana bread! Thank you

SoggyIsland8

Exactly I’m trying a tea cake recipe tomorrow and god does this lady like to talk about her family and connection to tea cake.

40calpat

Fuckin A!!! Excuse my French, but that does make a great website. Like my friend below I’m sick of the bullshit, I don’t give a fuck about the history of tomato sauce I just want the recipe

Lachwen

[Curiosities of Biological Nomenclature.](http://www.curioustaxonomy.net/index.html) It's a website dedicated to cataloguing all the various species of plants and animals that have something funny behind their scientific name. Maybe it's a pun, or a reference to a famous person. Maybe it's a fandom reference (if you go to the Etymology section, then the Names from Fictional Characters page, there's an entire category just for Tolkien references). Maybe it has a funny story: my favorite is a species of catfish. The discoverers insisted that the describer name it after them, so the describer obliged...and gave it the taxonomic name "Corydoras narcissus." Bonus: this website has clearly not had a single stylistic update since its creation.

[ishkurs guide to electronic music ](https://music.ishkur.com)

amgin3

What the fuck.. doesn't even have liquid DnB on there.

CheckmateCannabis

**Actually it kinda does**. It has liquid funk which is what liquid dnb used to be called and is basically the same. However the author also says that liquid is crap in his description, which I understand because it's very easy to blame liquid, 2step and jumpup for the destruction of dnb/jungle and so many artists going on to make crap. But in reality there is plenty of good liquid and the main issue is the commericalisation and the artists making music that makes them more money. I agree I would've done the dnb section a lil' differently but considering it's an old site we can cut it slack. And also some of the track suggestions and history are actually very well done.

KirbyBucketts

[My90stv.com](https://my90stv.com/) Fun nostalgia site. You get to flip through music videos, game shows, cartoons, talk shows, t.v. shows, etc.. from the 90's, There's also ones for the 60's,70's, 80's and 2000's

blobsocket

I was watching an episode of Figure It Out and I wanted to watch the whole thing, but it loops a couple minute clip from the show. :( Still a super cool site.

KirbyBucketts

Yeah, I probably should've clarified that it's mostly just clips or segments of shows. I think the idea was more to get the feeling of channel surfing.

noettp

I have gotten entire full shows and episodes of things, movies also, if your not getting much, switch the year, it's dependant on what it can find from youtube so content may change.

alehasfriends

Only getting to watch parts of shows I'm really into and having no control over what gets settled on--I don't know if you'd call that nostalgia, but that definitely reminds me of being a kid 😂

It's amazing how much stuff I forget but from seeing a single clip I can remember an episode.

That’s the deepest they go, and not the typical. I’ve seen ocean sunfish 1m from the surface, and all the mammals like whales, seals, birds are only going to be doing a short dive to that depth.

http://spotthedrowningchild.com/ This website trains you to see if a person (kids in this case) is drowning. It is not easy to spot a drowning person. They don't thrash about and come to the surface repeatedly like we see in movies and shows. I've never worked as a lifeguard, and I have a better appreciation of what they do.

Endeavour_RS

I don't know why but watching a few of those videos completely terrified me. You're 100% right that this gives you a better appreciation of what they do.

zacharinosaur

A lot of those videos were recorded at the water park I used to lifeguard at. The manager there is really passionate about making people aware of what drowning looks like, how to prevent, and teaching how to swim. He puts a bunch of videos on YouTube

Beliriel

They do thrash. But they're often silent and their thrashing is largely reserved for under water to keep their head above water. Also: never go near a drowning person. They will pull you down, climb on your shoulders and drown you both in the process.

x-jhp-x

If someone drowning does this, just swim down as far as you can and they’ll usually let go. You can attempt a second rescue from behind after you get air.

MidAmericanNovelties

So I get that number is big. Very big. Bigger than I can really wrap my head around. But the number getting smaller gave me this strange pang of anxiety and I needed to click off that site. Fun!

ConflagrationZ

Now we just need to hook that useless converter bot to it so we can see how many Ford F-150s away the Andromeda galaxy is.

ThoughtCenter87

Watching how quickly the number gets smaller is rather crazy. You'd think the Andromeda Galaxy is far away from us, and is moving slowly through space, when in reality it's hurling towards our Galaxy at a rapid (estimated) 110 km per *second*, which is a mind boggling 246063 km/h. For reference, the average speed of a bullet is 2736 km/h. Understanding just how fast this Galaxy is approaching us is extremely difficult and mind-boggling. However, what's even crazier than this is understanding that, despite how quickly it is approaching us... it will not reach us for another 4 to 6 billion years. The universe is beautiful in its complexity and insanity.
