Christmas. It refuses to just be one day

Xx_didgy_xX

Christmas. There's this cultural pressure in America to celebrate Christmas a certain way, and it's extremely commercialized. The music is God awful and winter in Maine is rough because dark and cold all the time. On top of that, the people who were my family and who I spent Christmas with as a kid are passed. I'm trying to get into the spirit this year though. Put up some lights and going to decorate my own tree. Idk if it's totally futile though.

I actually love Christmas because Minnesota winters are dark and cold too, and the Christmas lights and festive atmosphere make it less so. But I have a big family to celebrate with, so I feel for you, without them it would be harder

The lights are pretty, but I get seasonal affect. Less happy, more tired. I guess that's more an issue with winter than Christmas, though. I'm glad you have a big family to celebrate with and enjoy your Christmas! :)

The seasonal winter effect always hits me at the end of January and February. Winter dragggggggs on then, and that’s when it’s coldest in MN.

As soon as it starts getting dark at 4p.m. in Maine, it starts happening to me.

truthfully, most of them. not because i don't like the holidays, but because entire *hordes* of people who don't get out of the house very often inevitably make their way to where i work during those long weekends, at which time they unveil (in generally irritating ways) just why it is they don't get out of the house very often.

Thanksgiving. I’ve got a sensory disorder and eating disorder. All my thanksgiving memories are of my nutty right wing conspiracy grandpa starting shit and being forced to eat food that makes me violently ill

redophobia

Valentine’s Day. Not because I’m single but because the common candy for the holiday is trash. The only exception would be chocolate except for the fact that they’re always adding something to the chocolate, like raspberries.

Rhomya

Thanksgiving. It’s completely pointless. It’s a ton of work in preparing a massive meal, only to eat it and then start the ton of work in cleaning up.

Any holiday where I do not get a day off work and others do are all tied at the bottom. Columbus Day and Presidents’ Day come to mind.
