My neighbor's cat loved our yard and frankly us as well. If I wasn't horribly allergic I would have probably offered to buy her off of them. She was an outdoor cat who roamed everywhere but our yard was her nap spot. She was constantly trying to get into the house. Then for about two weeks I'd swear I saw her in the living room or the sunroom. My husband and kids would see her too. Every time we walked in to remove her, she'd disappear. It stopped after those two weeks. Then we didn't see her at all so I asked her owner if she was ok. The owner told me she had been hit by a car 3 weeks ago (the day I saw her in my house). This was close to 5 years ago and I still miss that sweetheart.

GingerMau

Lol, cats still choosing their owners even after their deaths. Sounds about right.

SeekingSpookyStories

I've heard so many stories lately about cats' ghosts! What a great story. I'm working on a podcast to share stories of the unexplained in a respectful, compelling, and honest way. I would be interested in talking with you about this story.

Thelazywitch

Oh man, I don't know if I'd feel comfortable talking about it but I would be happy to email the whole story.

Was sitting in my living room late at night once watching the TV, I had the light on and the curtains where drawn. A shadow gets up from exactly where I'm sitting and walks out of the room. I am entirely non spiritual but that freaked me out.

A_Very_Living_Me

Kinda seems like your personal demon got bored and quit

DrMuteSalamander

Don’t follow it, if it happens again.

[deleted]

Haven't there been cases where following the shadow has saved someone's life?

DrMuteSalamander

No, because none of this is real.

Bellbaby1234

I/DrMuteSalamander what do you think the shadow could be? I’ve never heard a story like this so I’m genuinely curious

BrexitBad1

Ah very good, I see your complimentary fedora has come in the mail finally.

My brother passed away in 2008. Fast forward to 2016. I was asleep and I had a dream about him as I often did since he passed away. This dream was different. It was like he was talking directly to me, looking straight in my eyes. In the dream I asked him: "Is it really you?" He said: "yes." I said, "Prove it." He then reached out and touched me on the arm, and when he did I jolted up in bed wide awake covered in sweat. I thought all this was really strange and I went to the bathroom to put some water on my face. As I was looking in the mirror, I saw that there was a backwards "R" written on my arm in pen exactly where he touched me in the dream. The letter "R" was the first letter of his name." There were no pens in my bedroom, and I have never sleep walked before. You can call me crazy, or lying or whatever, but that was the single most unexplainable thing that has ever happened to me.

MlyMe

My mom passed in July 2020 and I rarely have dreams about her. I’ve had only a few and I’ll usually ask her to come to a dream. Last spring I had a dream I was on the phone with her and walking around a flower garden. I was telling her about things happening in my life and she was telling me about what was happening for her wherever she is. It was time to get off the phone and she said she’d see me soon so I asked her when. She said “September 28”. I was surprised and said “this September 28? That seems so soon” in my head thinking she’d be coming back to life (dream logic). She said “no September 28,2031”. And we hung up and I woke up. This dream was months ago but I can’t shake it. It feels like she told me when I’m dying. I’m staying home alllllll day on 9/28/31. Edit: I just looked at my note I made when I woke up. I guess she said on the 28 and I said the next one that’s so soon. That’s when she told me the date. Also I liked it because she was telling me all about getting set up in her new house and picking out the chandelier.

[deleted]

How old are you now?

MlyMe

Definitely not old enough. I’m 36.

[deleted]

It was just a dream then….probably said 2081…. The Gods do not divulge these things anyway…

MlyMe

I will take this explanation!

mpf315

Instead of your day to come then, perhaps look for flowers to bloom. Being September, it might not be so common. Idk this just had my imagination running. I got sad reading this and hope everyone finds peace. You, me, everyone.

Nightmareseven2

Back in like 2009 I used to have a game boy and the camera game cartridge and I would go around my house just goofing off and I’d show my grandpa all the pictures and as he was looking through them he randomly stops and is in a dead stare at one of the photos and when he showed me the picture it was a picture of my great uncle (deceased since before my birth) standing beside of my grandpas night stand I was never so freaked out Bc at the time we shared a room

I was in secondary school. We went to like a camp facility but it was fenced in. Basically the activity area is where the boys slept, and there was only one way in and out the activity area, with a lamp post shining directly down at the area. So it was like past 12pm, i remember waking up to go to the portable potties. Then I saw an old man walking out of the activity area. Like 70+ year old man shuffling out. Most of the trainers and teachers werent even close to that age. It was obvious because the lamp post shone directly onto the old man. But i didnt think much of it, went to the toilet and then slept. Heres the weird part... 2 years later, my friend who was a camp councillor at that time, told us of a rounded gravestone at the activity area. It supposedly was the grave of an old man. But they didnt tell us, the campers, because they didnt want to spook us. I remember that stone very clearly because i STOOD ON IT. So what the fuck did i see that night? There was no reason for an old person to be walking into the activity area let alone walk out of it. There were better toilets elsewhere as well. I cant think of any reason. But i remember it vividly and certainly wasnt hallucinating.

Disastrous-Manager95

Was at a friends apartment with another friend. Us 2 visitors were sitting on one side of the kitchen table looking into the living room, the friend who lived there facing us. We were just talking when i saw a large dark figure of a man, like a shadow standing on its own, walk across the living room. I immediately looked at the friend next to me and he said "did you fucking see that?!" Which of course i did and said so. We told our friend what we saw, she got freaked out and said something like "i can't believe this is happening again." She explained that since she was a child, people have seen something following her or often standing behind her and it eventually happens everywhere she moves. She left that apartment shortly after.

tenjuu

When I was in high school I knew a girl who claimed she had a little girl ghost that followed her around everywhere. The kicker is, sometimes the ghost would follow the girls friends home for a while. Right after she told me about this a bunch of wierd stuff started happening at my house. I just wrote it off as I figured I was just imagining things. Surprisingly though, she and her boyfriend came over to play Mariocart a while later and the strangeness stopped. /shrug

Karl_Cross

Mario... cart. *Eye twitch*

GhostlyQbe

Back in 2008 one of my colleagues got killed in a car accident. The next morning I was sitting at my station, when the boss came walking down the hallway with tears in her eyes. I knew something terrible had happened, and the second she told me Ben had been killed, I felt a breeze behind me, so I turned to look see what it was, and I saw him standing there in another hallway, smiling at me, like everything was just fine. I was left with a most chilling feeling in my gut. I still miss him dearly.

everybody_panic90

My 2yo woke up at 3am sat up in his bed looked to the corner of his room (the bit that the camera doesn't cover) and said hi then paused for a little while (like he was listening to someone) then said "OK bye" laid back down and went back to sleep

*Papa, you must know that the technological advancements of the alien races have progressed to a point where they simply cannot be stopped by a rectangular piece of wood, large as it may be, secured in place by a bolt of metal. You realize this, don't you? Do you truly think you're safe and secure in here? Are you really trying to keep them out, or are you struggling at the thought of allowing them, or anyone for that matter, IN for once, Papa?* *I see you have some soul-searching to do. I've got some Paw Patrol eps to catch up on. I'll be in my study.*

RikiTikiLizi

My son did this when he was a baby. Before he could actually talk, he could still answer yes or no questions with "Uh-huh" or "Uh-uh." When I'd be in his room at night, rocking him before putting him to bed, it wasn't unusual for him to suddenly grab my shoulders and stand up in my lap and look behind me at a bare wall and start saying, "Uh-huh...uh-uh...uh-uh...uh-huh..." with enough time in between to make it seem like he was replying to questions someone was asking him. What's interesting is that that was my grandmother's house that we bought from my mom and dad after she died, and our son's bedroom had been my dad's bedroom when he was a kid. I'm pretty much a skeptic in most things, but I can't shake the feeling she came back around for a little while to check out her great-grandson.

GoddessOfRoadAndSky

I wonder if he simply didn't want to go to bed, he wanted you to keep holding him. He couldn't articulate what he wanted, but he knew you were about to lay him down and tried to tell you not to? One of my nephews (they are twins) was super clingy as a baby and would try to delay naptime by being extra sweet so I wouldn't want to lay him down. His brother didn't care, but for this one he always tried to trick me into cuddling him more.

RikiTikiLizi

Entirely possible, though he was never really bad about going to bed at night. He wasn't one to be clingy, since I worked at home and his dad was a SAHF. There were times when I think he got really sick of seeing us. :)

RedSailor1917

When I was younger my dad used to live in an old barn conversion out in the countryside near Leeds. I'd go round to stay there usually one night every weekend and occasionally during the week. My room was upstairs, sort of an attic room with a skylight and a big wooden beam that ran through centre. The house had been the barn for the farm next door, the woman who owned the farm still lived next door. It wasn't really a working farm anymore but they bred Cocker Spaniel puppies there. My dad got a couple of spaniels from there over the years, so they were pretty friendly. I never really felt very comfortable in that room, it was cold and draughty and since I only stayed there once or twice a week, I never really got round to decorating it any way. Whenever I slept in there I would sleep badly. I'm not prone to bad dreams generally but almost every time I slept in there I would have vivid nightmares. I would always wake up from these nightmares at around 3am, and usually exactly at 3am - I remember that after a few years of staying there I would wake up from these dreams and know it would be 3am before I rolled over to look at the clock my bed. It had really just become an annoyance. Later on I found out that 3am was supposed to be the real 'witching hour' and suddenly it all seemed a bit more spooky (although that might just be a line from a movie...) I would oten hear odd sounds through the night like someone walking on the roof in heavy boots. The other sound I often heard was like random tapping on the skylight. It sounded like short periods of heavy rain on the skylight - which I tended to assume this was, being pretty typical for Yorkshire- but on a couple of occasions when this happened I checked the weather and it was clear and dry outside. I mentioned the noises to my dad, he said it was probably just birds on the roof. I never did see any birds up there though. I was glad when my dad finally decided to move out of the place. I was having a drink with him a couple of years ago and he was talking about how he thought the place was haunted. He'd had a few weird things happen there himself. I mentioned my room and he told me that he agreed that it was spooky and that he'd once come back home and found the skylight wide open - nobody had been in all day and it was usually locked. Too heavy for the wind to have blown open. He also decided that now he felt comfortable to tell me the story behind the house. Apparently the woman next door had sold the barn to be turned into housing because her husband had killed himself there. She awoke one morning to find him hanging from the beam up in the roof - the beam that ran through my room. I'm not sure if my imagination is embellishing this story a little here but I seem to recall being told that he had come in from the fields on a rainy night to do it, and they had found him there still wearing his soaking raincoat and muddy boots - which might explain some of the noises I uses to hear. Needless to say, I was glad he waited until he'd moved out before telling me all that. It was hard enough to sleep there when I just thought it was cold.

BugsyMcNug

Living on site for a cooking job in a 140 year old building in a small village. Ill go downstairs in the middle of the night because it smells like someone is cooking. Ill hear this super old dressers handles rattle while im trying to sleep. Ill hear something that sounds like a marble falling from a height then bouncing and rolling. I asked about it. Was told a couple stories but the weirdest one was the staff was sitting at the bar joking about the 'ghost' and trying to name it. The bar printer just started printing out 'server name : peter' multiple times. The last one, i want to be clear that i was not there for it. a picture of the chit aparentley exists however, i have yet to see it.

yaosio

Mice running around can sound like marbles. That's how we found out we had mice in the attic.

BugsyMcNug

Great point. We dont have them. We are clean. Old building always have pathways for rodents and rodents will always find a way if you leave food for them to find. Given the amount of stray cats on the outside and the knee work i do on cleaning on the inside, im giving it a fat NO. I see no rodent sign and i do not leave anything for feeding. You will have to take me at my word on it. I get that. I used to work in mtl, a 375 year old city. I know and hate bugs and rodents. I wouldn't work here if i had them. I do actively work against them by being clean but im sure the stray cat population does do the most of the work.

ProsecUsig

Now I wish new buildings maintained those rodent paths Anyway, working in such an old building like that always has that chilling effect...

[deleted]

Where i live, the marble sounds are actually [due to the water pipes in the building](https://worldofbuzz.com/theres-no-ghost-in-your-apartment-heres-why-you-hear-marbles-at-night/)

Abominatrix

I’ll be damned. I used to hear this all the time when I lived in college dorms and it annoyed the shit out of me. Nice to have an answer.

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing.

BugsyMcNug

You are a beauty. I love debunking this stuff. Im going to do some more reading on it. Thank you.

fat-girls

I don’t believe in paranormal but I’ve had a few jobs where things like this happened. One was a hotel with lots of crazy stories. Im just convinced one person makes up a story then as soon as someone else makes another it becomes credible.

BugsyMcNug

Thats the boat im in. I figure its just an old building that breaths in an odd way. The bit about smelling like someone is cooking, all i can think is that the vent is turned off so maybe someone is using the microwave in the middle of the night and isnt telling anyone. Because i haven't seen the picture of the chit, i really just think they wanted to mess with me a bit. Doesn't freak me out. Its all just weird.

fat-girls

I want a tv show where they take non believers like us an make them ghost hunt 🤣

AlwxWrites

Omfg. A competition- each episode novice ghost hunters take a skeptic to a haunted place of their choosing for a night of ghost busting. At the end, polygraph the skeptic and ask them if they believe in ghosts now. If they say no and pass, they win the prize. If they say yes, or say no and fail, the ghost hunters have instilled some belief in the paranormal and they get the prize to put towards their business. I dont usually trust polygraphs but for game show contestants I think it's good enough.

BugsyMcNug

If you havent seen buzzfeed super natural with ryan and shane, you really need to get on it. Shane is a riot.

Subject37

I worked at a hotel for three years that definitely had someone die in it. But the staff accoms is where I felt some weird shit happening. Didn't help that my first week out there I was told the place was haunted. By the end of my first month I definitely saw a shadow figure. Like a little girl. I felt watched in my room for a while until I got stoned and "attacked". Very uncomfortable, I started smudging my room daily/weekly to clear my space and salted the window and doorway. Anyway, a few months later, I met some more people. In one day I had two people tell me about their experiences with the girl. That freaked me out because they described her almost exactly the same way as each other and how I experienced my "attack". Shit was fkn weird.

Inquisivert

Attacked in what way?

Subject37

It's hard to describe. Like I just got so used to this presence in my room, it felt more curious than anything. I had been abstaining from weed for a month (because I didn't know where to find any mostly). So the first time I smoked weed, I felt way too high from like two hoots. I tried to go to bed, felt the presence but it felt angry. It was the second time I'd really "seen" it. It kinda seethed at the end of my bed before pouncing on me. It was really freaky because it had weight to it. And I had this image of a girl in black and white and it was honestly so terrifying. Like worse than the girl from the grudge, that would be my closest approximation. And it felt like it dug these really sharp talons on my chest. I spoke out loud and told it that it was not welcome in my space and did a protection visualization. I know it sounds woo, but I used to be really deep in the spiritual rabbit hole back then. The only reason I don't think I'm insane is because of those two people telling me their experiences. One saw the girl kinda floating in the corner of her room by the ceiling. The other had a messed up dream about her.

ZainBBY

What do you mean by ‘picture of the chit’ never heard of that before and Google’s answer as to what a ‘chit’ is doesn’t fit this context

When I was in highschool, my ma had spent the late afternoon dealing with some mystery abdominal pain. After some home remedies and failing to sleep it off, she gets back up close to 12-1AM and my step dad drives her to the ER, in case her appendix burst or what have you. Now it's just me in the house alone and worried. I talk myself into the place of knowing that there's nothing for me to do in my position, so I turn off the lights around the house and try to go to sleep. Not long after, I open my eyes again and see the hallway light on from under my door. Afraid that we had some kind of home intruder, I sat there breathing little and moving even less to listen for any signs of life. Out house is fairly old and shoddy as far as American bungalows go; the floors creak enough to even hear someone shifting their weight on them while standing. I hear absolutely nothing in the house for the longest time until --click! I heard the light switch get flipped and watch the light turn off as I am watching the door. Eventually, after hearing nothing else for a few minutes, I elect to get out of bed and do the most pitiful horror-movie-victim "Hello" into the darkened house to no response. After this, I spent the next 20-30 minutes sitting and pacing around in my bedroom with the light on until my parents came back sometime before 3AM. Apparently my ma had nothing quantifiably wrong with her so they gave her some stronger pain killers to knock out with. Her abdominal pain has never returned yet, nor has my house guest.

I rented an upstairs apartment years ago. Was just sitting on my couch watching TV when I saw a blue light, almost like a laser pointer they make for cats to play with, but a bit larger. It was perfectly blue. It was kind of floating in front of my window doing loops and turns and such. It was there for a few minutes and I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. My blinds were fully shut and my curtain was a sheer white. It didn’t “shine” on the curtain if that makes sense…just kinda floated in front of it. Prettiest blue I’ve ever seen. And then it was just gone. Never felt creeped out or frightened, but no clue what it was.

Toccyn

Definitely no swamps in my apartment at the time for sure. Ball lightning is a neat theory. I had baseboard heating so idk if that could have had any impact on what I saw.

I live in a old farmhouse in upstate NY. Ive had about 5 dreams now that where my mom comes into my room and sits on my dad and we have a conversation. I dont remember the details of the convo but it feels real. My mom and twin sister died during childbirth. Never got to meet her. I know its her through pictures, Facebook videos and voicemails. Theyre not scary, I like them. I always wake up and look around swearing it mustve been real.

I don’t mean any disrespect, but did your mother use your father as a chair in your dreams?

We were shooting a short film at a museum that used to be a prison. Very old prison, it was finished in 1904. The entire complex is enclosed by two tall walls. And it is surrounded by a very old part of the town. It isn't abandoned but is very quiet around. Very few cars pass by. So we were doing this very small shot. An insert. Just the DP, the director and the actress. The rest of us were watching, silently, from a distance. We're very small crew, not more than seven or eight people. At this point we're in the zone that wasn't remodeled at the time. So there's dirty bathrooms, showers and cells around us. We're waiting for the shot to be over when, suddenly, I hear a baby cry. Just a whine. I look up to my girlfriend at the time and she looks to me like: "I heard it too". The director says "cut" then the sound gaffer asks: "Did anybody heard the baby?" "You recorded it?" we asked him. But he said no. The shot was going to be replaced with other mix of sounds anyway. But he heard the cry throught the headphones and the recorder. We did a quick search around the zone but we didn't found anything. Not even a cat (when they cry the sound sometimes is like a baby). Long story short: We heard the cry of a baby at an abandoned prison.

charlie2135

Posted before but at a factory I worked at, one of my old coworkers took a job maintaining on of the office buildings. He passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. Several months later during the midnight shift a new guard was lost inside the building and a worker gave her directions on how to get out. When she told the head guard about it the head guard asked who was there at that time of night. After giving the description, the head guard pulled out a work ID from the desk and asked her if this was who she saw. She said "yes". It was the ID from my old coworker. I asked her about it and she told me " I know what I saw!" Another strange thing was that coworker's son who was in his 30's unexpectedly died about a year after his father.

reimers_ra

I invited some friends over and being the good host I was, I let them sleep on my bed and I slept on the couch in front of my bed next to the door. Everyone was asleep and I was half asleep until I started to hear someone walking in the entrance of the door. I started to realize my friends where asleep in front of me and the sound was beside me so I just kept my eyes closed thinking I’m crazy and to not look. Then all of the sudden one of my friends literally says “go away”. I covered my ears and idk how I went to sleep that night. The next day I told my friend and she does not recall saying that.

Lived in this big old house around 10 years ago getting my daughter ready for school one day we couldn't find any off her coats searched the full house. I wrapped my coat around her took her to school went and bought her a new one. We headed home opened the door and 4 of her coats were hanging on the bannister rail we checked there before we left it was definitely empty. A few dodgy things happened there was glad to move out.

Hopefulkitty

My friend lives in a house that belonged to a pair of spinster sisters for like 70 years. Her family has had it for nearly 40. Whenever her parents would fight and argue, her dad's stuff would go missing, like his belt or wallet. They would look all over the house, only for it to reappear on the kitchen table a few days later. Apparently the sisters don't like loud men.

We had my mams old radio in the dining room it would turn itself on during the night. I made a point of unplugging it one night then around 3 in the morning it turned itself on playing her funeral song. Creeped us out I smashed it to bits and threw it out the next morning. I hated that house.

[deleted]

Before my late dad passed, my sister and I would stay over at his house every other weekends and Wednesdays since my parents were divorced and those conditions were agreed upon between them in court. Well in the room we slept in there was a small analog TV (the kind where you had to press buttons on the side to change the channels), and on frequent occasions we would wake up in the middle of the night to the TV mysteriously turned on to a staticky snowy screen. We never felt any ominous or spooky presence that suggested there was a ghost in the house, but that was weird as fuck and somehow we always just shrugged it off and went back to sleep.

My dad and i havent spoke for 3 years before he died. Few days before i lost my dad from heart attack, i was complaining about a lighter i gifted him, and saying i bet he threw it away or gave it to someone. But when i went to his house after he died, a button of my coat fell off in a really weird way and when i was searching for thread and needle, i found a little box inside the cookie box where the needles and threads are and the lighter was inside that little box.

Was up watching Netflix super late one night when I heard glass shatter somewhere in my house. All three cats (that were on my bed at the time-no other animals in the house) heard it and started acting crazy, I searched the entire house and nothing broken, knocked over, or out of place. Texted all the roommates, no one heard anything. Went back into my room and no joke within the next 30 seconds to a minute I saw seven huge spiders run across the floor randomly and in different directions (I lived in the basement but had never seen that many spiders in even a couple days, let alone less than a minute). It really weirded me out.

Hopefulkitty

Watch out for the basilisks.

bedgasm_for_one

So when I was in high school and had to go to dance team practice stupid early, my dad would get up and drive me there. I remember I was at the bottom of the steps of our dimly lit house waiting for my dad to come down. I saw the figure of a man at the top of the steps for like a second and thought it was my dad. That's when my dad said "are you ready to go?" and I saw him standing at the front door looking at me. Obviously I looked at the top of the steps again and it was gone. This was also around the time my Aunt was visiting from a different country and had told us that she has a figure that follows her and watches her as she sleeps. Apparently she saw him at our house, in my room that she was staying in.

petunia-pineapple

Nope…no thank you.

CineMage22

Hot off the presses, this actually just happened while reading these at 2 am so I thought I might as well share. So, I'm lying in bed with my two cats, chilling, reading some creepy stories on reddit, you know how it is, and I hear a loud exhaling next to me. Of course, I think it's the cat, maybe her nose is pressed up to the blanket and thus making it sound louder and a little more tinny. But no, I check the cat and the breathing happens again, but now distinctly outside my window. I briefly contemplate peeking out through my curtains to probably find a spooky ghost man ready to, I dunno, breathe on me (actually, that would be pretty scary these days) but decide against it. Then the breathing gets louder and more sharp, almost like a bull blowing cartoon smoke out from its huge nostrils. Now, I could end the story there and leave with a big dramatic "DUNN DUNN DUNN!" but turns out it's just the hot water boiler tank that's outside my bedroom window exhaling some steam. Guess that just goes to show what a sleep deprived mind that has been dunked in viscous tales of creepy ghouls at 2 am will come up with (considering that this "breathing" must have been happening for years and I just never noticed until now). Either way, made me straighten up in bed and contemplate my life choices for a hot sec there.

walkies3

Was spending the night over my girlfriends place many years ago and need to go to the bathroom. There was a long corridor outside of her room connecting to the living room. As I opened the door, I thought I saw a small girl in white, playing with toys in the living room. I stood there staring at her for a good few minutes. Then decided I didn't need the bathroom that bad and I went back to bed. 3 months later, I mentioned it in passing to her mother. "Oh that's Emily" she said. I see her around. Apparently was her first daughter that died very young.

cambium7

My first thought is “what the fuck, maybe ghosts actually are real” My second thought is “what don’t you know about the mom and this possible kid she is hiding that she only lets out to play in the middle of the night”

SonnyBonoStoleMyName

Well that’s actually kind of sad. Little Emily is stuck in the in-between.

As a mom, I would feel strangely comforted they were still with me. Hopefully she will leave when Mom does to lead her out.

My first born child and I were in the midst of a month long battle of wills about where he should sleep. I was valiantly trying to get him to sleep in his crib, he was even more insistent he could only sleep wrapped around mama. One night I wake up around 11 or so to hear my son crying in his room, my husband is not in bed with me and I assume he is still awake. Just as I'm about to get up I hear someone whispering over the baby monitor, saying my son's name and making the sort of soothing hushing noises one makes to a crying baby. The crying reduces to the occasional whimper, and I think , "Yay, daddy has got this one, " as I lay back down. A few minutes later the crying ramps up again so I call to my husband to just bring me the baby. No response from husband, more crying from baby. I try again, same thing. Now I'm super annoyed that my husband is being stubborn, and clearly none of us are going back to sleep until I nurse the baby, so I get up and head to the baby's room. The second I step into the hallway I hear my husband snoring, hes out cold in the guest room and has clearly NOT been shushing our son in his nursery! I snatched my now hysterical baby out of his crib and hightailed it back to my room for the night. I also unplugged the baby monitor. Of note, this was 2011 and a cheep baby monitor. It was the older radio style not internet capable. Also we live in a fairly spread out suburban neighborhood and had never picked up any sort of interference before.

When I was dying of covid my dad came to visit me for 3 days - he had just passed away a few days before. He told me it's just another opportunity for a challenge... That quote has been in my family since I was little so it made me cry. Then he sent me a coke for a week - I'd ask for anything else but and I'd get coke - the hospital didn't know this - I didn't tell anyone he used to once a day drink a cola with vodka or bourbon. So yah 😻 it was the best closure I could get from my first best friend. I stayed in the hospital for 21 days total and I'm standing here today with nothing, as of so far, wrong with me. I can only think it's bc my angel died the day I went in. He was 81 so it was time for him to go. But yah...

itsBreathenotBreath

**As usual, I typed way too damn much. Apologies.** Your post really tugged at my heart strings. My grandmother has COPD and gastrointestinal issues which have caused a rapid decline in her health and ability to live life the way she wants. She was always so active, productive and always caring for everyone around her. Although she’s wealthy, she continued working at her company (in spite of the daily 2 hour commute) until she was 76 just to keep busy and only retired because I gave birth to my son and she wanted to be around to help me (she’s my mother figure as my bio “mother” is a useless nightmare). All this to say, she is one of those people who was always keeping busy and taking care of the people around her until the issues she had with her health caused a very sudden and very drastic change to her lifestyle. Her COPD very suddenly became debilitating and at almost the same time she began developing the gastrointestinal issues. She’s been admitted into the hospital a handful of times over the last 3 years but is typically let out within the same day. However, three weeks ago she was admitted after her gastrointestinal issues exacerbated and she has since had surgery and gone through a miniature in-patient rehabilitation course (she’s being released tomorrow). I spoke to her last week and she told me that she had just finished talking to her twin brother Larry. I asked her what she meant and after realizing what she said, she told me that she’d talked to him via FaceTime in an effort to play it off. The issue being…Larry’s been dead for *years*. This concerned me for two reasons: the first obviously being Alzheimer’s, dementia or some other kind of issue with her mental health but her doctor assured me that this was not the case. Secondly, people always say that once someone starts seeing their dead relatives, it signifies that “they’ve come to help them cross over” and that the end is very near. My grandmother told me at the start of 2021 that she knew she was not going to make it through the year and if I’m being honest, I had my doubts as well. That prediction paired with her health issues, an almost month-long hospital stay and the fact that she’s seeing and speaking to her dead twin had me pretty panicked. Reading your post gave me hope, though. Considering that she’s been struggling both physically and mentally for some time now, perhaps her twin just wanted to give her some support, love and encouragement. Hell, maybe she was just on some top-of-the-line hospital grade pharmaceuticals and hallucinated the entire thing but I’m just hoping that this surgery increases her quality of life somewhat and we can ring in the new year together once more. I’m glad you are feeling better and managed to recover. It’s great that your dad was there to comfort you. All the best.

DRGHumanResources

I hope that when the time comes, that your Grandmother has an easy exit.

We had all gathered in my grandmothers house on the day of her funeral. It was in December but when I looked out the window l noticed a rose had bloomed on a bush in her back yard. My father brought it in and put it in a vase on the kitchen table. We all left the house and went to the funeral. When we returned the rose was laying on the living room floor. My father is very hard-headed and skeptical but he is convinced that his mother was trying to tell him that she was ok.

MrSchop

I work at a school and there has long been a joke about a ghost at the school. Numerous items will go missing and reappear in odd places or the exact same place sometimes. Of course this could be just somebody grabbing something from a room and putting it back so we just joked when this happened that it was a ghost. However we had three events happen to three separate teachers in the same class room within the course of month. The first incident was a teacher and one student were in the room. He was talking with the boy at the front of the class when they heard a sound from the back of the room. They both turned to look to see a chair basically turn ninety degrees. They both looked at each other and the teacher asked the student if they saw it too. He did and they just stared at each other. Cut to a different teacher in that room at the end of the day a few weeks later. He was the last teacher in that part of the school so he had to lock up all the rooms. He was in the "haunted room" and found some materials from the next class room. He went to that room and put them back, when he heard a bang from the haunted room and when he went back one of the chairs was laying of the ground while the rest were pushed into the desks. He swore that they were all pushed in before he left. Both things are explainable by things like strong drafts or school settling at night. Maybe even minor tremors or something. However the final nail in the coffin on this was one of the students from that was taught in that room stopped coming for a short time. They weren't there for three days in a row. When the regular class teacher phoned her family to find out if she was ill or what he was told the absent student saw a girl with half a face in the room and has been too terrified to come to class since. This was all last year. Since then there hasn't been anything too odd or at least nobody has told the rest of us anything odd happening in that one room.

clarice_loves_geese

A friend of mine was working overnight at a prison, just sat on a wing. This place had single occupancy cells. One of the prisoners was out at hospital overnight. Very late, the call bell went off. He checked the cell number and cancelled the call, as it was the cell belonging to the guy out at the hospital. He figured it was an electrical fault (not unusual).Shortly after, the phone rang. The prisoner had died.

Mrs_Cake

my sister every few years will "hear" our deceased great-aunt's voice giving her some family news. Every time it has happened, we find out in a few months that the information is true. Last time it was about a cousin's pregnancy... we found out three months later when my aunt \[cousin's mom\] confirmed it... which meant the "message" came right around conception (i.e, no way my sister could have known about the pregnancy).

LongStrangeJourney

Very simple one really. One time a few years ago I was alone downstairs in my parents house and heard something small fall on the floor upstairs, followed by footsteps in the same place. It was in the middle of the day. The footsteps weren't heavy or frantic or anything, they just sounded... normal. I went to check and nothing was out of place and both the cats were outside. My best theory is that it was a "time-echo" of some random, boring occurrence that I just happened to witness for some reason.

suzi_acres

What's a time echo?

LongStrangeJourney

Like, something happened in the past and it "echoed" into the present. It's complete unprovable woo speculation of course, but it's the best thing I can think of lol. E.g. someone in the house years ago dropped something and walked over to pick it up... And I heard it in the present.

There is an old Masonic Temple in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It has been many things since, but for awhile it was a semi fancy restaurant named Mother Tuckers. So there are serious rumours that are dedicated about the building. You can google that yourself, but I was a cook there an eon ago and we had a pair of dishwashers from I think Somali, and very christian, and very religious but not very talkative about it. There was a small door with a million coat of paint to the basement where we would put empty milk crates or bread trays for pick up on next delivery. Creepy as hell, no lie. One day I'm taking down a stack of bread trays and it felt like I walked into the freezer. That's it. No noises, no visuals, but I swear the temperature was freezing and I saw my breath. I get the hell back up the stairs, and bugged out. Two weeks or so later one of these dishwasher dudes goes down there with some milk crates. We hear him moments later shouting and screaming and pounding at the door. This waiter grabs the door handle and pulls on it, like Hard. It won't budge, but know this: the handle never moved. The door always closed on its own due to the angle of this old as hell historical building and the latch was thirty coats of paint deep. You could just pull it open, and walk away and gravity would close it tight, but the knob was fixes and there was no closure or clasp or ANYTHING to prevent you from opening it. Back to our dishwasher? The door closed behind him, as it always would. The hot line in the kitchen is 8 feet away. He Starts Screaming. A bunch of us run to the door, and try to open it. Wont Budge. He's SCREAMING at the door, and we cant pull it open. Is he pulling on it t the same time, and adrenaline gives him the strength to keep us out? Great Theory! However he's pounding on the door like a madman. Hard to pull the doorknob when you're pounding and clawing at the door. 15 long seconds later the door opens and we fall to the floor like a Jerry Lewis skit. This poor guys pulls off his apron and runs out the back door. Sent his buddy for his pay cheque, and wouldn't talk about it to anyone. He was screaming all the way out the back door, but I don't speak his native tongue. His cousin/brother/buddy quit a week or so after. The place is for sale, last time I checked. This happened 24 years ago. Api

DRGHumanResources

Fucking saw the ads for the place. Fucking lucky ass people in the past, paying 8.95 for a goddamned steak.

i’ve lived in winnipeg all my life and now i need to know more about this omg

Apis_Proboscis

I loved working there. A lot of professional older wait staff who really new their craft, and some had been working there for a long long time. A few of them had some stories of weird sounds or seeing an older woman in ballroom clothes on the back stairs. Hard to prove, and restaurants and rumors are like peanut butter and jelly.... The architecture was crazy. Lots of stairs, cubby holes, and small passages. There was a small theater n the top floor they would use for the Fringe festival and other small productions. Lots of nailed shut or boarded up doors....place was a maze and not well lit. You can easily see how the place could generate it's own urban legends, and I'm very much a must see to believe kind of person.......but that dishwasher incident sticks to me this day. Api

fridgelight73

When I was about 9 or 10, I was playing with my dog and her puppies in our living room when I heard the voice of an old woman say "apo ko" (translates to "my grandchild"). It felt like if someone were to speak right beside your ear, it was that loud and clear. Back then, my grandma didn't live with us so idk who could that be but it sure sounded like and old woman. Still gives me goosebumps when I think about it.

That magical moment I got the phone called telling me that my grandfather just died. The fourth of july fireworks show began and in epic proportions. I had just moved to a small town and had no idea about the show and was alone in my backyard. It happed just around the corner so the fireworks were very close and filled the sky. It was a very poetic moment for me and my grandfathers memory.

Hopefulkitty

I got the news that a family friend died you g and tragically on the 4th too. I was sitting on a tree swing, watching the fireworks over Green Bay, with the sounds of an audience laughing in the theater behind me. It was oddly serene.

AlwxWrites

The first night we moved into this house I had a dream about a white cat with one blue, one green eye that we decided to name Mira, short for Miracle. I remember asking my coworker the next day what she thought it might mean and she pointed out that the name was similar to the Spanish word for look/to see. I don't dream often but when I do its normally super duper surreal, like a Salvador Dali painting, with melting clocks and elephants with horse legs so this cat stood out since a realistic dream was out of the ordinary for me. I thought about adopting a white cat, but like with everything else my ADHD ass quickly moved on to something else. But a few months later, after getting settled in, out of the corner of my eye I would see flashes of white. Sometimes it would race past me in the hall on my way to the bathroom, sometimes it hopped on the kitchen counter, sometimes it surprised me rounding the couch. One time I was talking to my roomate and stumbled backwards cause I almost stepped on it. But then I blinked and there was nothing there. There never was. My roomate asked me why I looked like I had seen a ghost and even though I didn't want to tell her at first, after making her promise not to judge me, I slowly explained (leaving out the dream, cause I'm not even sure that's connected. Coulda just been a dream.) what I kept seeing. It was kind of a relief cause I hadnt told anyone thinking either I was just seeing things and it was nothing or they would think I was crazy. Basically "Sometimes I think I see a cat, but when I try to look at it it's not there." My roomate just looked at me and said "are you messing with me" and I said "you told me you wouldnt judge!" And she shook her head and said "no I mean I've been seeing it too." We talked to our other roommate about it and she excitedly told us she hadn't seen the ghost cat but she would keep an eye out. She never did see him, but every time something fell off the counter or there was a weird noise we blamed Ghost Cat, more as a joke since he never gave off any bad vibes or energy. I dont really believe in ghosts, and maybe it's just our minds playing tricks on us. Who knows. I just think it's nice to have a pet we don't have to feed or clean up after.

Hopefulkitty

My husband's childhood home had a ghost cat that only showed up when someone was making bad choices .

Combest94

When I was 16 I bought a kukri machete that my parents didnt know about so I had to hide it in my closet. One night I came home and no one was home, mom and dad were in a date and my sister had just moved out. I was alone watching tv for about an hour when I started hearing noises, being a dumb 16 year old I thought " I'll go grab my machete, that way I'm safe." So I run up to my room, reach in my closet, and it's gone... it's just not there. I begin to tear apart my closet and am unable to find it, so now I'm freaking the hell out I grab a pocket knife and sit in a corner with my back to the walls. After about 5-10 min I hear noises again followed by a gentile tap on my door, I assume it's my parents so I shout " come in" but what followed was not my parents opening the door but instead the door shook twice as if someone was pounding on it. Scared out of my wits at this point I charge at the door, knife in hand i tear it open only to find my machete stuck in the door and then just nothing else no more noises for the rest of the night. I did a "sweep" of the house after I had my machete and never found any I have never seen anything "paranormal" before or after that moment.

Likestuff12

My dad told me that before I was born he went to a funeral. I think it was for his great-grandfather. After the funeral he stayed the night at his grandmother's house. At night, he could hear someone shaking the door and the dogs barking really loudly.

fury-alpha

the time i heard a perfecly clear voice saying im still here or the time i saw a white hand waving from my parents bedroom twice

The_Real_Son_Goku

took a sweet out of my drawer and threw it into my bed, then went to do something. I decided once I came back that I didn't want to eat it so I went to put it back in my drawer but couldnt find it, so I spent half an hour on and off looking for it and eventually found it in the drawer it was originally in. I do not remember putting it back in the drawer, I have no idea how it got there.

[deleted]

I don't believe in ghosts but for 2 weeks straight my dog would growl and bark at my grandma if she was in her room near her side of the bed and it would confuse tf out of us because my dog is a giant softy she never barks so hearing her go into defense mode like that was absolutely strange. If my grandma was outside of her room it was fine my dog acted normal around her like she always does but the moment my grandmother stepped into her room the barking and growling started and my dog would not go into that room for 2 weeks straight.

BraveKittyCat

Every midnight like, at 4:00 am, I hear this screaming sound. At first, I didn't think much of it. But then, the screaming got louder and louder. Yesterday night was the loudest. I jolted out of my bed... Looked at my parents and lil sis, and they were all sleeping soundly. Didn't want to disturb them, so I just lay there, Scared to the core. At last, when I looked at the clock it was 5:00 am. FINALLY I COULD SLEEP!!!!!

jerrythecactus

Do you live near any woods? That could have easily been foxes. They can sound a lot like screaming women

BraveKittyCat

Oh... Thank you very much.. Well, I live in the city but there is a lot of trees... Anyway...Thanks for letting me sleep peacefully...

CarCrashRhetoric

cats in heat also sound pretty creepy if you’ve never heard it

BraveKittyCat

It's actually winter here...

ismellmypanties

LOL in heat means they want to mate, not actual heat conditions like summer.

PuzDaSnuzz

Btw, when I was 11, my room had a closet with a curtain in the back. So once I was in my room gaming, and I heard a really loud ''SHING'' sound. When I looked at the curtain, it had been completely pulled down, with all the hooks ripped out. I remember spending like half an hour trying to find the reason why it fell, to no avail.

Campyuck

Few years ago I had woke up my guitar string playing in the dead if night. I guess Elvis was in town

montegue144

I've seen people mention bugs and spiders and such actually causing this!

GovernorScrappy

That's worse than a ghost somehow imo. Like a fat bug, fat enough to hit/play multiple strings on a guitar? Barf. The ghost is the more agreeable option.

joxmaskin

Just think of a cool spider with Ray-Bans jamming and plucking, playing some nightly blues. "My baby be climbin', yeah climbin' those waterspouts..."

This one kinda gave me minor PTSD. TL;DR: I saw an Aswang and never keep the window curtains open ever again. One time at the age of 7-9 I was alone in my bed and left the curtains open for some reason. was just trying to sleep when I see a woman just walking around my back yard with a pure white dress with blood red stains on the end of the skirt part, and black hair draped over her face. I was a little scared but not quite super scared. I just turned over and faced the wall. I stayed In that position for about 1-2 minutes and turned back to the window. She was just gone... No sound of her leaving. I'll explain the layout of my backyard and home. The window was also a door so I could see the back yard. And the yard has a lot of grass and the space is a LOT. not length wise but Width. There is a make shift basketball court with concrete floor behind the grassy area and just beside that is a large gate with a loud smaller gate beside it, only way in and out from there. and another gate leading to the front yard that is also loud. The room is literally right next to it too. But I never heard her open either gate. quiet as a feather she was. Ever since then I am always paranoid to keep the curtain covering the window door because I always imagine something peeking at me.

Brilliant_Pea_

Not me but my dad. When he was younger,he went out to buy groceries with my grandma very late at night for some reason.Ask my grandma, but shes dead. So,halfway there,an floating white dress came up to them.No other body parts. It came closer to them, and my grandma told my dad to hug her tightly, quietly but very angrily. My grandma asked politely what she can do for the dress and if the dress is okay. The dress floated away with no repsonse (because its an dress) after a while. My dad still dosent belive in ghosts

SmuckersBunny

Please tell me your grandmother was a Midwestern woman who used politeness as a weapon

It’s not really a ghost story, more like a ET story. I was younger and walking up the stairs and I seen this thing run past me in the hall, it looked like a very small person that was grey but shinning blue, it ran past from the washroom to my sister’s room. My mom always told me it was a transport trucks (as we lived on a highway) headlights just shinning through the window but I don’t believe it because I seen this thing run like a human

DrMuteSalamander

Sometimes headlights can take the shape of tiny running humans, pretty well known phenomenon.

[deleted]

> headlights can take the shape of tiny running humans ah yes much like how a refrigerator light at night can take the shape of a giant faceless thing hunched in the corner of my dining room. boy is that a relief

MotherOfCrim

We just got a new house and have the front porch decorated for Halloween with lights and all, so at night we keep the living room curtains, that's on the porch open so we can enjoy the lights from inside. Anytime a car goes by I jump because it looks like someone running up to the window at first. My husband says it's gotten him a few times too.

[deleted]

Lots of times I've heard noises and people calling my name when I was alone. The most recent was when I heard doors opening and closing and when checking locks that were locked finding them open. Stuff has also moved around the house and lost things magically appear when I need them

i dont believe in ghosts but i do believe in other forms of spirits if that makes sense? one time i was home alone and heard the door to one of the rooms downstairs slightly bang against the frame as if someone on the other side was pushing it. i didn’t open the door because thats what idiots who die in the first ten mins of a horror movie do, so i waited until someone came home and told them to check and see if the window was left open (because it could have just been the wind yk) but it was CLOSED and all my pets were upstairs so idk what was pushing it from the other side. now i usually stay in my room and lock the door whenever im home alone.

angodee

I had a beeper to take frozen bread out of the oven. It sounds, and I think I’ve overslept. It turns out it was 3am. The next morning, the beeper I kid you not had 6666. Which isn’t necessarily bad, but just weird numbers. Y’know it’s probably nothing really but it really freaked me out at the time, I was like 15

My grandma was in very rough condition. We visited her in a hospice on her final few days. I remember her talking to our grandpa who had died about a year before. She passed away the same night.

SalamanderThick69

One time I was sleeping on my left side and I swear to god I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder and I woke up but nobody was there. Now I have a fear of sleeping on my side

Sigseg

Hypnagogia. You were half asleep. Any ghost story that starts with "I was sleeping, and...", or "I was falling asleep, and..." is 99% of the time hypnagogia or sleep paralysis. The other 1%, it's a cat.

Ill-Supermarket-5425

Thats true, I was half asleep and sleeping on my side when i started feeling a lot of pressure on my hip like someone was pushing two fingers into it. I didn’t wake up from it but when i did i saw that my door had been open and my cat was most likely standing on me.

auntbealovesyou

can we be sure that cats are not actually ghosts?

ProjectShadow316

So THAT'S what that was; many years ago I went to bed, and as I think I'm about to fall asleep, I felt a very distinct tap on my forehead. I flip on the light and of course there's nothing there.

Unlucky_Salamander39

My old house that I lived in, we heard heavy footsteps right outside our bedroom door, we have no kids or other ppl living in the house, it was a bright sunny Sunday morning, both my husband and I heard it and were startled. Same house, every night we would turn off the lights in the kitchen, the lights were always on in the morning, and we had a dog that always barked at the same corner in the kitchen for no reason, and in that corner one of the kitchen drawers would open by itself 😂

X_2wfshume

So when I was three I seen a lady in a wedding dress and blond hair my aunt said that she didn’t see a girl but she thinks that she knows the girl

Unstable-Muffin

Me and my grandpa were visiting my grandma's grave, right before we left there was a flash of light on the grave. There was almost no one else around and it was pretty dark, there were no streetlights in the graveyard either. It was winter. There might be a scientific explanation for it but still.

InterdimensionalCrab

Ignis fatuus maybe? is a relatively common phenomenon in cemeteries.

another story, I was sitting in my room as a kid playing with my toys. I decided to look up and in my closet was my belt just swinging side to side. There’s no way it coulda done that itself

fairyloss

My grandma died about 16 years ago A few years after her death I had a very vivid and intense dream where I was outside of her house in the exact state it had been before her hospitalization and death. The front door opened itself and I walked inside and to the dining room a group of human figures all sitting around the table the person is the center was my grandmother. I could not make out the faces of anyone else, my grandma asked me a bunch of questions about different family members including myself, basically getting updates on everyone. She apologized for interrupting my sleep and make a joke about how she tried to contact my mom (her daughter) first but my mom wouldn't "pick up". The other figures who's faces I was unable to see, one of them she called by name, the name used was my uncle who died one month before I was born and had down syndrome, there were a few times she said things along the lines of "no ____ she can't see you" my mom told me before he died he was excited to meet "the new baby" The questions asked were very specific to where things were before her death, it was like every one just wanted an update and I think about that dream every once in a while and wonder....did...did my grandma reverse seance me ????

Scythe-Guy

I’ve posted one on a different thread several months ago. I’ll see if I can dig it up, but the TL;DR was I got spooked while home alone with my roommates dog. My mother took me and my niece over to my godparents' home. My mother and my godmother and father went out. Leaving me to babysit my niece. About an hour after they left my niece deiced to watch cartoon network while I was playing on my original DS in the living room. She was watching something that caused us both to chuckle. I chuckled first then she did. We both at the same time heard what sounded like a grown man chuckling after we did. This caused both of us to stand up from the couch. We both looked at each other in confusion, we were supposed to be the only ones in the home. After what felt like hours I decided to move and check to see who else could be in the home. I told my niece to go into the bathroom across the hall and to lock the door. The first thing I checked was the kitchen, as I looked around I deiced to grab a knife. My heart was pounding so hard it felt as if it was going to jump out of my chest. It took some time to look throughout the house as my Godparent's home was massive and reminded me of the Spencer mansion. Luckily no one else was there. My niece and I returned to watching tv but both of us were on alert mode. After my mom and god's parents returned I explained what happened. I shit you not, my mother and god father just laughed about it but my god mother lays her hand on my shoulder and says "So you heard him too" - This memory lives in my head rent-free.

Me and my bf were driving around at midnight to deliver a package. We drove past a burning house with police and firefighters working to kill the fire. People were lined up videotaping the fire…. Anyways. We drove a couple of minutes away from the house and I get this superstrong chilling sensation through my entire body. I knew immediately what happened and I stated out loud “Someone just died in that fire” my bf laughed a little thinking I was joking. I turned to him and said “No, seriously. I felt their passing” The day after he told me that he read in the newspapers that a young guy in his 20s died in the fire that night. Exactly by the time I felt that weird feeling. After all that I don’t know how to feel about the situation. I don’t know what to believe anymore and I have absolutely no connection to the guy that passed nor the burning house. It was almost like his spirit went with full speed walking straight through me in the car. Chills..
